There's a GIANT bear up in heah! Why are you angry, Mr. Bear? Someone else got your fish? We began the meal with raw oysters (good, but on the small side) and French onion soup (tasty broth, too much bread, not enough cheese). Sorry, but I like my crocks of French onion soup to be covered in a thick blanket of cheese, draping over the sides, dripping onto the plate. It's Whitefish month here, apparently. Lake Superior, represent! Nothing else of an ichthyologic nature rang my bell so I ordered some whitefish, baked on a cedar plank and covered in fresh berry compote. I know this makes me sound like I should be dancing to Benny Goodman, but really...if you're in Michigan, whitefish is as local as it gets. Bonus: no nasty BP surprises. The fish was prepared perfectly (sliiiightly underdone, the way fish should be) and the compote was as sweet as the in-season berries themselves were. Bonus points for summer! The veggies were steamed with butter, just a bit overdone but not too greasy. There are other adventures awaiting the intrepid gastronome, such as roast half of duck and beef short ribs. They all sounded pretty good, and the prices seemed very reasonable. This place is definitely in the realm of a-ok. Only one thing knocked my socks off. That being... ...the mile high blueberry pie! It's almost as high as a piece of cheesecake from the Stage Deli in NYC (and that's pretty damn high!). It's definitely enough for three people to share. And of course it's made on the premises. This pie...wow. Take an acre of blueberries held together by the slightest smidge of blueberry custard; pour them into a pre-baked buttery crust and chill. The berries were PERFECT and their natural sweetness was allowed to shine. Fortunately, I was able to dodge the oompa loompas and see myself out--er, bipedally. Actual review: 3.5 stars

Decided to eschew the angst of preparing a Thanksgiving meal for the family this year and went to Rocky's of Northville. Good decision. While the place was packed and the servers were stretched too thin, it was an enjoyable time (if you packed your patience) and the food was really terrific! Our reservations were for 3:30 and we were seated promptly. The only slight negative was that they had already started to run out of entrees. Three of us had ordered the venison only to find out that they had run out. Our server, bless her heart, managed to find ONE order and I got it! She really was harried, but she was on-the-ball and not only found that order for me, but she also remembered that I had wanted a certain wine to go with it. I certainly hope that the management keeps her and others like her happy and employed! We will definitely go back to Rocky's for another delicious meal sometime soon. If we book for Thanksgiving next year, we will make it earlier!

I love the atmosphere at the bar. Feels like I'm in a beach town. The staff are non-pretentious and friendly. Drinks are good but not great. Menu is weird, and there is a dearth of appetizers. I really wish there were more seafood selections on the app. menu - like sea scallops or shrimp or some really creative bar eats, like even some tapas would be fab, but no. This is rather unimaginative fare, I'm afraid. Feels a bit dated. It's not bad at all - it's just not a place i would ever put first on the list, or even 5th. Maybe in the top 20 for this area - as a place to meet a friend and have a drink at the bar. But it's suprisingly always packed. Go figure.

Whenever guests come to town, we always take them to Rocky's in Northville because we know the food is always great. I've lived here for 28 years and Rocky's is the best. They have the BEST bread! The chefs are from Schoolcraft College which has one the best culinary programs, receiving both national and international awards.

Odd experience. We had a 75.00 gift certificate that DID NOT have an expiration on it. So we thought what the heck lets go. We had never been there before and I totally forgot I had the gift certificate. So we go there and the hostess was surley. She was bordering on pretty rude, she tried placing us in the tiny tiny table when there were other tables available. She claimed there would be a 20 min wait so we said ok we will wait for a larger table and guess what 2 minutes later there was one available. So we get to the table and our waitress was very sweet and I told her we had a Gift Cert and it was a bit old but there was no expiration on it so she said she didn't think there would be a problem but she would double check. I have to mention again she was very sweet and did a very good job. A couple minutes later the manager or owner shows up at the table and tells us how the Governor of the State makes them now have a year expiration and that they have to pay taxes on gift certificates that are not redeemed uh well duh of course you do it is INCOME. I have to do this at my business too. I do not say much but he goes on and on and instead of saying "Welcome to Rocky's we will be more than happy to accept your gift certificate" he tells me about his tax woes. Uh who cares? At our business we do not give a care how old the GC is, we always accept it even though there is a 1 year expiration. Does it make for perfect bookkeeping? No but hey a customer is a customer and they could come back and spend even more money. It is worth the PR. By now I am starting to look around and the restaurant is filled with really old people. We are the youngest people there and we are in our 40's. Seriously it was q-tip heaven, even on the menu it warns if you share a plate there is a $4.00 fee which is kinda tacky because old dudes sometimes have a lighter appetite and does it really cost them any more to be nice to the old people? The food was very good but the experience left me feeling that I would spend my money somewhere else. Our tab came to 75.00 almost exactly which was the gift certificate amount so we tipped the waitress 25.00 (30%) and left. During the entire experience we were not rude nor did we argue with this strange manager/owner person who was trying to make us feel bad us over an gift certificate that had no expiration date on it. I have to tell you as much as I hate to complain because I have a business of my own and I know how difficult people can be this guy was way out of line to tell us about his unhappy feelings about being taxed on income from unredeemed gift certificates. Uh I just so dont know what to say.... very weird.

I have grown up next to Rockys of Northville for years. In moving up in the ranks of kitchens throughout my life, im grateful I passed this restaurant by. I have always heard good things of this establishment and maybe it was good years ago. Today my service was good. My companion and I ordered the escargot and seared tuna dish for starters. The flavor of garlic butter soaked snails were right up there with red lobster. Our seared tuna was seared to perfection on a poor attempt of presentation like somebody squirted wasabi sauce out of a ketchup bottle with no care or accuracy. The caesar salad was a lazy mans work of prep, using the tips and wilted parts of lettuce tossed in a basic dressing. The entree of sauted steak in a baked potato shell reminded me of something I would make for kids to get them to eat their dinner. My Greek salad entree with calamari almost chipped my tooth because the lettuce was dirty and they failed to pit ALL of their olives. After sending back the childrens steak, my companion got a simple filet served smashed into mashed potatoes. Tasted better than it looked. I don't like writing bad reviews, but I don't like eating and paying for poorly prepared food from a lazy staff of hacks. The food I believe would have tasted better if prepared correctly. As a guest and being new to eating here, I was extremely disappointed. 1 outta. 5 stars.

Ate there last night with friends who had never been there. I had the potato encrusted white fish and others had another kind of white fish. All food was outstanding and service was excellent. Can't wait to go back. It is a hidden gem.

This place is the idea spot for dining out with a party of 6 or greater. Friendly waitstaff, signature Kruse & Muer bread, large selection of entrees and wine. A nice dinner that would cost around $20-$30 depending on what type of drink you ordered. My wife ordered the gulf shrimp pasta (very good) and I ordered the beef medallion wedge salad ( above average). This place is the best option in the area when compared to the Andiamo's chain.

We love Rocky's. The meals are delicious. We enjoy the atrium, but in cold weather it's cozy inside. Wait staff is always helpful.

Great seafood selection here. Had the Broiled Blue Cod and loved it. The filet mignon my boyfriend ordered was slightly overcooked so be sure to account for that when ordering... perhaps go rare instead of medium rare. The fried havarti was a fabuous starter- if they added dill it would have been out of this world.

Place full of geriatrics. Soggy salad. Bad fish. Place seemed dirty. Sticky table. Dirty windows.

I hadn't been here and sat in the dining room in a long time. I'm so glad we decided to give Rocky's a try again. The Salmon Salad was spot on in flavor and presentation. The salmon was cooked perfectly and our server was wonderfully attentive. Definitely putting Rocky's in our line-up of choices for a Saturday night dining experience that doesn't break the bank.

I have been to Rocky's many times, birthdays, anniversaries, and I have never had a bad meal. They have wonderful hot garlic bread, great salads, and scalloped potatoes and meats to die for. They are very reasonably priced especially during their early bird specials from 4-6. It is also so cozy with the fireplace and warm atmosphere. Great alternative to the busy crazy restaurants in Northville.

Very disappointed the we went there after a funeral the wait staff was rude. The party I was in had one vegetarian and the waitress was no help with recommendation we asked for bread and didn't receive it until after lunch we also had one person at our table that ordered coffee and that was taken to another table the food was not the greatest will not go back

Our family ate there a couple weekends ago on a Saturday night. We had a party of 8. Bottom line....the service was Terrible...from extremely slow to major confusion...,terrible timing of food....cold food ....mediocre taste to food just plain unacceptable!!! Even getting the bill took way too long. We couldn't wait to get out of there! I asked to speak to the manager on the way out and it took at least 5 if not 10 minutes to explain the situation. The manager said 'I'm the only one here'! Really? My experience with Joe Muer restaurants is not good in the recent past.

I am reviewing this restaurant because I have gone here many times and because it is one of most consistent restaurants I have ever frequented. This was once a Chuck Muir resturant and has lived off that fact for years. My parents live down the street, so it is their main go- to place. I think it is nice, not over priced, and consistent. In all the years I have been going here I have had only one bad entrée, and they took it off the bill and asked if I would like to substitute something else. While I would not drive a great distance to eat there, if you are close it is worth doing.

I am not a fan of negative ratings and this is not going to be that. The food was really good the wine was really good and the service was really good. My 3 stars is because the menu had no vegetarian dishes. None! Unless you consider the salads, which I did have and it was really good. There is a lot of seafood on the menu so if you eat fish/seafood you will have plenty of options. I think these days you NEED at least one vegetarian dish on your menu!

    Although they have done some repairs to the parking lot and the front of the restaurant the food continues to go down hill. Their adult lemonade drink was watered down and the pork medallions were tasteless. This will be our last visit;

Happy hour frog legs are the best. Dan and Jennie at the bar are so friendly and accommodating. Every time I am in town I come here for the perch or frog legs. The bread and Black bean soup is also awesome.

It's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to. Birthday buddy night. It's Kenny's birthday. Whos ever birthday it is picks the place. I was pleasantly surprised at my initial entry into the restaurant. He ener in the lounge area. There is a smoking and and a non-smoking side dining area. The lounge was nice and clean and looked like a nice place to hang out and watch a game and toss a couple of brews. Meal: Lake Perch - Pan Fried with long grain wild rice. - You have a choice of pan fried or deep fried. This perch was prepared very well. the breading was a little heavire than I normally like, but it was served hot over the bed of rice. Nice restaurant, good food just not the best.

Have had some good meals here over the years, but not recently. At there for lunch today, and the fish was overlooked and tasteless (both my meal and my friend's) the bread was hard and dry, the salad arrived without dressing (salads are an up-charge), and the prices are high for the quantity and quality of food. Will not go back. Too many disappointing meals over the last several visits.

I love this place! I have been coming for years and it only continues to improve. Rocky's is seriously tasty food. Chefs Rocky Rachwitz and Dan Meier know their food. It is much cheaper at lunch (a nice meal for under 12 bucks), early bird dinner or to come in and order off the special raw bar menu.I also recommend ordering dinners with sauces, if you just get a piece of plain broiled fish for 22 bucks at dinner you are not gonna get what I like so much about here and think I'm nuts, I will counter with you are a bad orderer. The one thing that is a must to get while in season is the gazpacho. I must confess I have stolen the recipe. They also have excellent cole slaw you can get with optional crumbled Maytag Bleu cheese. The house salad is a treat with cranberries, gorgonzola and raspberry viniagrette too. They also have great appetizers. The calamari is tender and zippy. The smoked seafood pate is really delicious. The house smoked salmon is just perfect as is the spice rubbed Ahi tuna served rare as it should be. Mussels are great any way you get them. The oysters are just fresh and amazing raw or cooked. Fish specials are always a good choice, way better than the standard fare on the regular menu. I had a blue marlin once that blew me away. My father was a fan of a swordfish that was covered in a creamy shrimp sauce. Basically if it sounds good it will be. Fish is never overcooked here, it is always fresh and comes with innovative ingredients that match tastes perfectly. My old standbys are the pan roasts. Seafood like shrimp, scallops and oysters in a spicy cream sauce with veggies like artichokes or sun dried tomatoes. The New England version is good but the pesto is better in my opinion. Creamy sauce, perfect seafood and rice under twelve bucks at lunch, how could you go wrong? The Oyster Stew is also very nice indeed from the raw bar menu, filling and not too spendy If you see The roasted half duck on the menu I strongly suggest you indulge. Rocky's is hands down the best I have ever had, with spaetzle and red cabbage it is a delight. The short ribs of beef fall off the bone tender and delicious. So freaking good. If you are looking for great fresh seafood with interesting sauces, love duck or beef short ribs you have to try Rocky's of Northville. You will not be sorry.

My wife and I came here for our anniversary. I hadn't been here since it was Northville Charlies and was impressed at the warm feeling interior. We had made reservations via "Open Table" which was easy. We were greeted quickly and seated in a room in the rear with a fireplace, very romantic. The menu was perfect for us since my wife was wanting a great filet and I a good selection of seafood. Well the filet came out perfectly done and my swordfish was fantastic. The service and the ambiance was top notch! I was surprised how casual people dressed though for a place of this caliber.

For starters, our server wasn't well versed in the menu offerings or even what beer they had. Her response was "I don't drink beer so I don't know". Food came out rather quickly, however most were place down incorrectly forcing us to play a little musical plates. French onion soup and salad were pretty good as was the bread. Entrees were a mixed bag, with the NY strip and perch pretty good, the chicken tosca salty, beef tips salty, and short rib close to inedible...dry, tough, and flavorless...tough to accomplish with a cut of meat like that. Lastly, the server wrote on our check what she thought we should leave as a tip...a tacky practice. Will not return.

I took two of my direct reports for lunch here, we got seated and had to wait about 10 minutes before a waitstaff came by and said hi. Oh, they only had smoking area available for seating, otherwise we would had to wait extra 20 minutes. We got our water and it took another 15 minutes before the waitstaff came back to take our orders. Food came out slow, by the time we got our soup, etc., another 15 minutes passed, then finally we got our main dishes. The taste of the food was good, however after spending 100 minutes from seating to paying for the bill, the whole experience left bad taste in my mouth. I haven't gone back since my first visit. I don't know what it was, but the service on this day sucked beyond sucking!

long, painful wait for not very tasty food, meals brought at a variety of times - made for a very uncomfortable, long drawn out dining experience. food was mediocre at best, salads were wilted and minute. chicken was tough and dry. seafood was not fresh and made several of us experience gastrointestinal distress symptoms. manager and staff were rude and not receptive to constructive criticism. will not return.

So on Friday my boyfriend and I decided to stop in for dinner after the art show in Northville. We didn't have a reservation they said it would be a 30 minute wait. There was one empty table at that time, and 30 minutes later they seated us in that same empty table. We had entrees and Lobster bisque. The Bisque was missing the lobster... Should of went with the salad. Then I ordered butternut squash ravioli (I always dig it) and chicken breast. The weird thing was the chicken breast tasted odd. Cooked but a little weird. Only had 2 bites. My boyfriends entree was pretty good. Our server was very nice. Even told me next time to forgo the chicken and only do the butternut ravioli. Unfortunately, Rocky's isnt what I remember it to be and do not plan on returning.

A group of 8 coworkers and I decided to go to Rocky's during our lunch hour. We all ordered salads and it took over 45 minutes for the food to come out. Once the salads did come out, they were very tasty but here is why I'm giving it only 2 stars: our experience was awful. We had to waive down our waitress multiple times while she was standing in the corner. On top of that, after we each paid cash for our bill - the waitress KEPT EVERYONE'S CHANGE and only gave us dollar bills back (shorting us). For example, my total was $11.40. I gave my waitress a $20 bill and got $8.00 back. This may not seem like a big deal but this happened to ALL 8 OF US that she banked the extra money. We called and spoke to Dave the wait manager and asked if this was their standard practice. He was apologetic and said no. To make up for it, he said the next time we come in that he'll "do something special for us", which probably means a free dessert. No thanks. Not worth my time. Keep my change and your free dessert because we won't be back.

I find Rocky's to be a very difficult place to write a review of... and I won't leave you in suspence, here is why: I think you have to be at least 50 to really appreciate this place. I am not saying that in a demeaning way by any means; I just think its geared toward an older crowd. They do take reservations, and if you don't have one, you will wait. For a dinner seating on a week night, we waited about 30 minutes, when the hostess said "we'll have a table in just a minute for you." She spoke these words to the many people who filed in after us as well. The decor and feeling of this restaurant are also strange. There is a large bear in the waiting area (taking up all room for seats while you wait), and therest of the interior looks like it should be an upscale joint, minus the oddly placed fake flowers. I tried to make hubby dress up to go here, but we saw everything from nice dresses to hawaiian shirts. So, um, I guess you can make it as fancy or casual as you would like. Once we were seated, the service was excellent. The food was also excellent. I noticed that Rocky's was voted "Best Seafood" on vote for the best in 2008. I did not order seafood, because the selection was slim. I would imagine that the fish that they do have is quite tasty, but it was all Great Lakes fish and I prefer salt water. The wine pairing I had with my pasta was top notch and well priced on feature. The meal overall was a bit more pricey than "average." I think that my overall rating of "A-ok" is right on. This was a tasty, sturdy restaurant that could be a stand by for good American dinner entrees, but we won't be in any rush to go back. I think my parents would like it more than I did. My grandparents would have (and probably did) love it! It is great to see a local business so busy on a week night. With the somewhat off beat location, Rocky's has a strong following.

We were seated in an area with a large party, 20 people at least. We could not carry on a conversation. How rude to seat diners next to parties that large. They should be in a private dining area or farther from other diners. The food is so so. The whitefish is usually good but I really feel the food is similiar to an Applebees etc. They are not as good as they once were.
