The first time I visit a restaurant I generally order a dish that I consider a "staple" - like Almond Boneless Chicken at a Chinese restaurant. My feeling is that if a restaurant can't handle the basics, their more adventurous dishes are likely to disappoint as well. So on my first visit to this restaurant last week, ABC it was. Alas, the ABC was more bland and flavorless than I have ever had in a full service Chinese restaurant. It's too bad, because the batter on the chicken was crisp and nicely textured and a flavorful gravy could have saved the day. My husband ordered a fried shrimp dish (memory fails on the name) and complained about the same problem. A nice selection of vegetables but almost tasteless. Wonton soup was no better: a broth that was so bland it was almost like water. Service was slooooow although the restaurant had few seated patrons. This was my first visit although I have lived in Northville for 6 years. Good Chinese is hard to find around here, and I am apparently still looking.

An excellent Chinese place. This is one of the best kept secrets of Northville, and deserves to become one of the worst kept secrets. Look, this place is a blink-and-you-miss-it restaurant in a strip mall you'd usually overlook, which should only reinforce the fact that it is a hidden gem, a fantastic Chinese place in an out of the way location. Family owned and run that specializes in Szechuan dishes, you cannot go wrong with any of the standard fare, but ask the staff for recommendations. For my money, any of the Chinese-American poultry dishes, your General Tso's, your almond boneless, your sesame chicken, is outstanding - I mean, for crying out loud you get to specify white or dark meat in them. When has that ever happened? Plus, and I have to add this in all caps: THEY MAKE THEIR OWN ALMOND COOKIES. And they are wonderful. Wash them down with some oolong tea. I'm reading some reviews here critical of the management. I've never had a run-in with these folks but, I don't know, I can see how maybe they are old school enough to be a little cranky with an order that goes wrong. Yelpers are adventurous eaters what go off the beaten path to find the good local eats. Northville has to content with the fact that Novi, just a few blocks North, has tons of great Asian restaurants. But if you've a notion to get a little bit more local, a little bit weird, a little bit unusual, and a whole lot tasty, please do yourself a favor and try New Wing Hing. Then come back a week later and try the Thai place in the same strip mall, and Cassel's American food some other time. Cap it off with a trip to the Knightsbridge antique mall, you will not be disappointed. (Did I mention New Wing Hing has a liquor license?)

Xpensive!! Avoid chop suey Noo flavor! You only have one time to a good impression, sorry wing ding, you did not. $15.00 per dinner is average.......

I look for two things when I move to a new city: the nearest bookstore and the nearest Chinese food restaurant. New Wing Hing is right down the street from me, so I decided to give them a try. I usually order carry out and the service is very prompt. They also prepare my order as I request (sauce on the side) every time. Everyone there is very nice and I'm always greeted with a smile. Definitely a good deal for the price. Favorite items: Sweet & Sour Chicken, Pepper steak (good amount of steak), and egg roll. A Chinese restaurant can lose me as a customer forever if the egg rolls aren't tasty.

I think this is probably a 3.5 star review, really. I liked the food here, as far as typical Chinese food that you would find in any city. They lose half a star for being little pricey if you eat in (which we did). Somehow the same food is a lot less if you order it carry-out (but perhaps it didn't automatically come with the egg roll and soup like the eat-in did). Anyways. I order the Gai Kow, which was tasty, and had lots of chicken in it. The wonton soup was mostly broth, but the broth had a good flavor. The egg roll was HOT and very tasty. My husband got the Curry Chicken, which we both really enjoyed. They also were willing to make the curry chicken special order (no veggies for my semi-picky husband). The service was fast, the food was tasty and overall, I left satisfied.

I've been going here as long as I've been alive (21 now) and I have never found a chinese place as good as this one. Don't know how the person a couple reviews ago thought the ABC was bad. It is the best ABC I have ever found. Most places put way too much batter on their's and New Wing Hing does it just right. I prefer the spicy chicken most of the time, but also will go with the ABC or beef with broccoli. Lunch is the best time to go to get the lunch combo specials. Dinner can get a little pricy, but is worth it if you get a few quarts of meat and some fried rice (shrimp is best). It can easily feed a family and still have plenty of leftovers the next day. There is no other chinese place to go in the Northville-Plymouth-Livonia area that is nearly as good as this place.

Love this place. The food is delicious. I ordered the beef kow which was excellent. The place is also very clean inside. I think this is my new favorite Chinese restaurant.

This place received a 2 star because I am judging it strictly on the food and because I was hungry. Not overall. If I had been judging it on overall.. It would get a zero. I called in an order for take out. Girl on the phone wasn't that friendly. I felt rushed. I got orange chicken, crab ragoon & spring rolls. I've had better for all of them obviously. Spring roll was okay but it was so small. Like they should have given 2. The crab ragoon was ok except they didn't give me any sweet and sour sauce even though I asked. The orange chicken was good not amazing. But what orange chicken isn't good? Nothing that really made it stand out. The chicken fried rice I got was brown rice. That's it. I like a little veggies mixed in with the rice. It was too bland. They also failed to give me a fortune cookie. :( No wonder why there was nobody in the restaurant when I picked my order at 6:10pm on a Wednesday. I wish I had chosen to eat elsewhere.

This is a very good Chinese place. I had the Woo Dip Har (shrimp with bacon). It was the first time I have ever ordered this in a Chinese restaurant and it was very tasty. The order came with egg drop soup and an egg roll----both great. My wife had the shrimp and pea-pods and liked it too. She had the chicken rice soup and it was thick with rice and a lot of chicken. We both had a glass of wine and my Chablis was good and only $3.75. My wife had the merlot for $5 and it too was good. They only have a choice of 6 house wines , but based on these two wines they probably are all ok. Service was excellent.

New Wing Hing has very good Classic Chinese food. All of the old favorites taste just as I remember them as a kid. I really enjoy the almond boneless chicken which has a very tasty sauce and the chicken was crispy.

New Wing Hing has yummy food, and super friendly service. It's mid-quality, inexpensive, Americanized, Chinese goodness. Why did I give 5 stars for mid-quality? Because for the price point, it does not get any better. And I'm going to make a bold statement here: this is the best hot and sour soup I've ever had. The soup gets 6 stars. For an appetizer, I'd recommend the crab rangoons (cream cheese, krab, and green onion, stuffed in a wonton and deep fried--what's not to like?) For the meal, the Almond Boneless Chicken is super crispy and comes in an incredibly generous portion. The Beef and Broccoli and Pepper Steak are also good choices. And don't come on a day when you're feeling carb-a-phobic, because you're not going to want to skip the warm sweet rolls. By far my favorite place to go for cheap Chinese food!

This place was really bad. I placed a takeout order and it was supposed to be ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived at the 20 minute mark, I waited about 15 more minutes for the food. A woman walked in and said to the guy that she got the wrong food and wasn't very happy about it. He just stared at her and handed her the new food. That wasn't that big of deal, until I tried the actual food. The beef and broccoli definitely did not taste like beef. All 3 of us eating it spit it out. We even tried their "signature" dish - terrible. The egg rolls were like eating plastic, the Kung Pao chicken was the only thing that we were at least able to semi-eat. We ended up throwing the entire meal away. It was so bad that I won't be giving it a second chance. My husband said, "There wasn't a ray of sunshine in that entire meal." I'm hoping they were just having an off-night for their sake, but it was a terrible experience for me.

I called to complain about the quality of food. The manager, rather than try to fix the problem told me "We have been in business for 3 years and that is our lo mein." According to him, "Northville Chinese is fresher than other places" is the reasoning behind bulking up sub-par food with bean sprouts. Their reasoning behind the unseasoned shrimp was "we marinade our shrimp" which is absurd. The shrimp was completely bland and without seasoning. They did agree to replace my meal with something else. The manager made certain to say, multiple times, that he will not make me anything stir fried. Yes, he actually said "I'm not making you anything stir fried." So I got the sweet and sour shrimp. It was average. They did have me bring in my lo mein and checked it before agreeing to replace it. Then they asked me if I knew what sweet and sour shrimp looks like. It was an extremely upsetting customer service experience. This restaurant is never getting my business again. I have worked as a food service manager for years now, and I would never dream of treating a customer like that. No wonder they had 3 total tables at 7:00 pm on a Friday night.

Not bad for a quick Chinese takeout fix. I ordered: (12) Fried Wontons 1 pt. Pork Fried Rice 1 pt. Wonton Soup (The meal came with that sweet bread MMMMmmm) Pretty decently priced too. All that food for $10.02 The food: WAS GREAT!!! I was really surprised because in the past i've eaten here and the food wasn't that great. The pork fried rice was some of the best I've had in awhile. Final Verfict: I will def be coming back to New Wing Hing when I get the munchies for my favorite food.

Took my mom here for dinner on Mother's Day. We went a bit early to beat the rush which was a good thing. There were only three other tables taken when we got there. The atmosphere is kind old school Chinese restaurant, which isn't such a bad thing. We were seated immediately and were given plenty of time to make our choices. I went with pressed duck, which is very difficult to find these days. My mom ordered the Sub Gum Wonton dish. The meals came with soup, egg roll, hot tea, & fortune cookie. I thought price-wise it was a bit on the high side but not terribly so. Everything came out piping hot (including the tea) and was very tasty. The waiter was unobtrusive and there was no rush for us to leave. We had a nice time and a really good meal. Will stop in again!

Good food and great service. Food was not too salty which is always a plus. We especially liked their tofu dish. Price is a bit high side.

New Wing Hing is in a strip mall at 7 Mile and Northville road. Since it's only about a mile from our house, it's one of our go-to places for Chinese. Usually, we order carryout, but a few days ago we decided to dine in. I had the walnut shrimp, which was delicious, but not quite crisp enough. Hubby ordered the sweet and sour chicken (his usual), with fried rice, which were both A-OK. Each dinner came with soup and an egg roll. We both chose egg drop soup, and it was deliciously eggy. Our egg rolls were nicely fried, if a little flavorless, and served with homemade hot mustard that left us both (pleasantly) with clear sinuses. The restaurant has a full service bar; I complemented my dinner with plum wine. Had it not been a weekday, I probably would have indulged in a cocktail. If you're in the Northville area, this restaurant is worth a visit.

I'm still not a huge fan of Chinese, alas, I keep eating it. Hmm, maybe I should look into this. Carry out was fast. I got the curry chicken which was very tasty and prepared with light oil as requested - not greasy at all. Hubby always gets the Almond Boneless Chicken which he says is some of the best around. I don't understand Almond Boneless Chicken, it just really tastes like chicken fingers to me with nasty gravy on top and makes me feel like I'm at a Canadian McDonalds, not in China. Pure opinion here folks. Another plus for this place is the fact that their wonton soup is shrimp-less - YAY!

Reasonably priced Chinese food. I had the spicy chicken; make sure you order it at LEAST medium spiciness or you won't get any heat at all. The egg rolls were not my favorite, I don't know what kind of filling they used, but it wasn't the best. Tried the volcano cocktail, which is a rum based drink for two with fire in the middle. Kind of awesome, but way too much to drink and super filling haha.

Ok, I would also probably do a 3.5 but will benefit with a 4. Being able to request all white meet for the sesame chicken is a huge plus even if not authentic. The sweet and sour soup is worth the dollar extra at lunch as well. I know some have mentioned spotty service but I have only been at lunch time and the service has always been great. The only real downer today was no fortune in my fortune cookie but I think that is more about the general direction of my life these days.

Classic Chinese food about sums this up. The portions were good and the meat-to-veggie ratio was surprisingly high on the meat side. Flavor was just ok. We did take out of 3 dishes and 2 soups for the family. It was somewhat on the bland side but we would try again.

WING DING HING! "KARATE CHOP!" - read that with an Asian man accent and it makes sense. Not sure why they have dinner rolls here but hey. Ordered take out for the first time here the other day and it was good. Hot, fresh and actually pretty good. Was able to get all white meat for the chicken dishes and that's great. I mean how many times have you gotten nasty, chewy bits of questionable meat in your sweet n sour chicken? One to many if you ask me. The sweet n sour sauce tasted real, in the sense that they made it there. Not like it was poured from a bottle. The rice didn't have the vegetable bits that I'm used to but it wasn't bad. Egg roll could have been a little crispier but overall, it was a good choice. Well done New Wing Hing.

The food here is over-Americanized. The portions are reasonable for the price, and the service is decent. The people working are the owners, and they are quite friendly. They just don't seem to have a passion for food, or they know what sells in this white bread community. I stick with the chicken sub gum when I go here.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
