Hmmm do I start with the good or the bad? Overall I had a good experience here. ...I had heard bad things about benihanas not being flexible with reservations, but was pleased to find that this wasn't so. I had to request that my reservation be pushed back by about half hr (which turned into an hr) and the host kindly informed me that it wasn't a problem and that I could wait until all of my guests arrive before being seated. One thing that did somewhat stop me in my tracks when I walked in was the booth in the lobby area had a ripped seat and had red duct tape over it (yes the seats are red, but still not the type of thing you wanna see in a place that isn't exactly cheap). Hopefully the rip in the seat was something that had literally just happened and will be repaired very quickly. Otherwise, the place was decent/well-maintained. I had never been here before and was surprised at how tiny the grills were and subsequently how cramped seating was at the grill. One of my guests did not arrive and that empty seat was what saved me and my 4 guests from being elbow-to-elbow as we ate. There was also one other couple seated at out grill (so held 8). Our chef took seemingly a long time to make our food and didn't perform hardly any "stunts", as I was expecting. Later the manager came and apologized for the chef being "slow" so not sure what that was all about, new perhaps...He did an okay job though... The food was great, but I was surprised at the small portions. Usually when I go to these types of places there is plenty to take home... I also had some of the Philly sushi roll and one of the crunchy sushi rolls. My sakitini ( daiquiri-type drink) was also really good. They also offer complimentary green tea towards the end of the meal. Our server was nice overall, but at times seemed slightly annoyed. I went because I had a $30 certificate (sign up for chef's club online) for my birthday and that would probably be when I go again (I.e. with a certificate/coupon). Complimentary ice cream as well for the bday person ;-)

Just visited last night for my husbands birthday, and we couldn't even use his birthday cruciate. Let me start by saying I love the mustard sauce so that keeps me coming back. However; this place is not as good as it used to be. Smaller portions of veggies and everything. You literally are given ONE thin slice of zucchini that's it! For $30-$40 it's really ridiculous. I ordered brown rice which they decided to tell me they ran out of after I was eating my dinner. This isn't the first time either. The last time we were here they ran out also. Used to love coming here and looked forward to birthdays and celebrating here. Not anymore! You get a great birthday certificate but guess what.... If your birthday falls on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you can't even use it! I get that they were probably over run with reservations on weekends. But at least make the exception for people whose birthdays are actually on that day. If not they can't use it on a weekend. Now on to the clientele here. People are so crazy, rude, and loud that honestly every time we think of dining here we weigh whether or not we care to put up with the chaos. Let me just say that everyone we know feels the same. Sushi is good but they don't make the rice correctly half the time because it falls apart. So the food you get small compared to what they used to serve however the service is slow.

I like Benihana! Years ago when my husband tried to explain to me what 'it' was all about, I always shied away from the place as he told me you would share a table with strangers. See I'm the quiet kinda person that likes to tuck herself away inside a booth and become anonimous. If invisibility cloaks existed, I would have one for every season. Finally we went and it was pretty darn good. We come here at least twice a year (birthday coupons - holla!) and generally enjoy it every time. My husband is a biiiig fan of their fried rice, which I've managed to recreate pretty decently at home for whenever he gets a craving. The key is garlic and lotsa butter. Cause butter makes it better. I like that the meals are typically spaced pretty decently, meaning that you get ample time to finish your salad before the soup arrives. The soup is a-ok, but we both really dig the gingery salad dressing. I should see if they sell it next time I'm in. After the soup the tricks and showy part of your dinner will start. Classics like Mickey Mouse, the choochoo train, steaming volcano and eggflip will all make an appearance, which is really fine with me. They will cook you up a small sampler size of shrimpies and zucchini/onions (or is it mushrooms? I don't remember) and present you with two dipping sauces. I always ask for a side of garlic butter to drizzle over my shrimp and fried rice. You can never have too much garlic! I typically order hibachi shrimp, lobster or spicy chicken. My husband prefers the surf and turf or anything with steak. Do yourself a favor and order some of that fried rice. Yes, it is an upcharge but absolutely worth it. If you go online and join their club, they will email you a coupon good for $30 to be used within a month of your birthday. Smooth move. It apparently works, because we take advantage of it every year. I have heard from some friends that their sushi reportedly is good. We have not yet tried, but I will report back when I do.

I was in Michigan for the first time dealing at a convention, and the Benihana was directly across the street from my hotel. We saw it as we pulled in and agreed it would be one of our weekend destinations. We ended up heading there Sunday in a party of seven. We had a reservation at 630 but weren't seated until around 7. Our server was polite and very patient with us, our cook a little less so, but otherwise it was a fun experience. The shrimp were a bit overcooked but the medium rare steak- perfection! Green tea ice cream completed the meal, and I ended up taking home a Lucky Cat and Buddha mug! I'll probably go again next year when I'm dealing at the convention again!

When I was younger, my mom would take to Benihana and at that time, Benihana was very ehhhh at that time. I went back not to long ago and were we surprised! I love Hibachi style cooking and the way it makes the food taste, but Benihana has definitely upgraded on a couple things and toned down on others. For example, Benihana has done a great job of upgrading their meat quality! I had a regular steak and it was great! Cooked to perfection, I couldn't have asked for a better steak! One the other side, their portion sizes have gotten unbelievably small and they have taken some things away! I love the veggies that I get with my Hibachi meal, but seriously, shut the front door! Only onions and zucchini?! Where are the carrots and broccoli?? They also have gotten skimpy on the ingredients they put in the fried rice and veggies. I like my meal to be flavorful! But aside from those details, I'm glad they have upgraded their meats since that's obviously the biggest part of the meal. I'll be back but I also love Ichiban and there portion sizes and ingredients are good as well. We'll see what happens. Haha!

I understand that this place was the best environment you could be in. I mean, it was nice I guess, but being at tables with strangers is a total offset. You also need to have a cook that you can understand, as they are asking you things that you may not understand. The food itself? It was ok at best. The fried rice had more flavor than anything else I had. I haven't had meat in almost 5 weeks and it was beyond bland. Chicken, filet minon, and shrimp were just boring. Either ask them to season it up or just go somewhere else. The price you pay for just 1 plate can feed a family of 4.

My favorite restaurant of all time. Amazing food. Amazing service. Amazing experience. Carlos is the best chef ever!

This location always takes way too long to get seated and started cooking, even if you make reservations. Sometimes the cooks are entertaining but most of the time they barely communicate. Sushi is always good. Hibachi is ok but overpriced. Service varies on your waiter but too many times they are MIA to the point where everyone's water glasses at the table are completely empty.

We went here for a work lunch. I made reservations for 11:30 and actually arrived a few minutes before they opened the doors for the day. Our full party didn't arrive until about 11:35 and at that point we were seated at a table. It was a full 45 minutes before our 'chef' showed up to cook the food. It probably would have been longer if I hadn't complained. It wasn't that busy, they are just under staffed. Once the chef arrived he did a decent job and at our request skipped all of the extra knife flipping and spatula banging. The food was good, but not great. I had the hibachi chicken, it had good flavor but the chicken was over cooked.

Terrible. Kept calling a young African American at my table "Chris Brown" and the chef explained the difference between Chinese, Korean, and Japanese people by slanting his eyes a different way with his fingers. I'm not even Asian!!! But I was uncomfortable my whole meal... And the filet sucked along with the sashimi. Do yourself a favor go to wasabi on grand river, filet is so tender

The food here is average at best but the hibachi chef we had was very funny and friendly. So if you are going for your birthday, awesome!!! But it's not exactly a place I would recommend.

I truly don't get what's the big rave about this place lately. I think is just a matter of people being impressed by the simplest little things. An Asian oriented Teppan-Yaki restaurant is nothing super special....At least to me. I guess to others it might be. I will say the sushi was pretty good and the tempura vegetables were so-so. I guess right now everyone is just on a big Benihana kick. But nothing special about this restaurant.

It has been a long time since I have been to a Benihannas. I took a friend here for her Birthday. I did the Hibachi grill. I had the shrimp and chicken. I have been to Japanese restaurants that give you more food for the money. The service was good, The food was good however, not great. It is a good place to go for a typical chain Japanese restaurant but trying other Japanese Hibachi style restaurants would broaden your horizons. Too little food for too much money. We had a Birthday coupon but they put the gratuity in the bill. The cost was $70.

I don't know why this place is so busy. The people here at this location were loud and disrupted my dinner. The sushi bar was flooded with people waiting to be seated in the main dinning room. When people are waiting for a tables, the sushi bar is not place to hang out unless your going to dine there or enjoy cocktails. It took forever to be seated in the sushi area. While dining here we were bothered by people bumping our table asking us to borrow chairs to sit down while they wait. Hello I'm trying to enjoy some crappy food here. The prices are outrageous for waiting over an hour to be seated and having your dinner disrupted every few moments. Then the poor waitress has to give poor service because the place is a mad house and has to navigate her way through all the people being in the way. I was so happy to get out of there it was pretty bad experience. I know this place is like this all the time so just beware.

This restaurant really didn't live up to all of the hype. I've been to other, locally owned hibachi style restaurants with lower prices and better food. I highly recommend giving other hibachi grills a chance before coming here. I had a reservation and I still had to wait around 20 minutes to be seated and even when we were seated at the grill we had to relocate to a booth because they overbooked the table and it was too crowded. Food=meh and the staff didn't seem organized enough to accommodate all the customers equally.

Great food and an amazing dining experience. The price is kind of high but if you get dinner and a show which makes it well worth it. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves great food and a show to go along with it.

I like Benihana. It's always a fun time, and the food is generally good. I love the fried rice, and everything else is usually pretty tasty. The only killer here is the grossly overpriced cocktails, which are too small to justify the high prices. The restaurant is a good choice for decent sized groups, too, since the grills are usually close enough together to allow your entire party to interact. When you've lost interest in your co-diners, you can marvel at the knife skills of your chef or the cuteness of your server. (Ours was very cute this last time and just playful enough to make things fun.) All in all, it's a nice departure from typical dining establishments.

AWESOME. My girlfriend and I have been coming here at least once a month feb-Sept. We can't get enough! Steak and chicken for two is a great buy, but is only available during select months. If it's not offered, go for rocky's choice. Same thing but for one person. And a must: get the chicken fried rice upgrade. Everyone does. Benihanas for life! I haven't been here for lunch, I'd love to know what the differences are. They just did renovations to their sushi bar, looks real nice.

Very disappointed Habchi lunch. We have been here before, but this time when we come back, seems like something has changed. We ordered the Express Habachi lunch. We were waited in the lobby for about 15 minutes at least. I don't know why they do that, but seems like they like to make sure they have a full table before they bring you back to the room. What made us disappointed was they make things "express". By that means, the vege and the rice were pre-cooked. The chef took out the vege and fried rice from the steamer, and then dump it on the cooking pan. Then he heat up the rice and the vege again, loaded with the butter and soy sauce. Yep, it is fast, and save time. But not the tradition Habachi. So if you are in a hurry to go back to the office, it is good. And if you order the chicken fried rice, the cook will take out the pre-cook and pre-cut chicken pieces and dump it with the pre-cook friend rice. I guess it is personal preference. But I really not into this kind of Habachi meal. Beside that, the food itself is only a-ok. Don't expect too much, I guess. Service itself is a bit below average. The Chef is in a hurry to cook. No greeting from the chef, and don't expect to see any throwing up the cookware, or fire flame. The waitress is busy as well. No greetings, and she just get the order and the check.

I went there with my family on New Year's Day and it was awful! Server was great she was attentive and accommodating but the food was truly not quality of Benihana, in fact strip mall place similar to this might have done better job. My children ordered grilled salmon filet but when you stuck your fork in it was Raw inside I didn't recall ordering ahi tuna like dish so we sent it back. Then my sashimi combination was not good to the point I suffered from food poisoning that night and missing work next day. This place is horrible!! Service was only good thing there.

I was pleasantly surprised at the food quality and level of service we received on this establishment. I was part of a large party of about 16, and while the wait was a bit long, considering we had a reservation, after we were seating they did a fine job of attending to our needs. The entertainment value of this type of restaurant is always important, and our table side cook did a fair job of keeping us entertained, though often I found myself looking at other tables because they were having a bit more fun (hence a 4 instead of a 5)... but I would definitely go back.

We went to this location only because we were in the area.We usually go to Dearborn which is always great!. Our waitress was below average so we crossed out the auto 18% tip and gave her a bit less.Well, when the bill and tip finally cleared our bank account the full 18% was on it!! That is fraud and illegal!!! I sent a message to Benihana and they are going to fix the mistake, but it should of never happened ! How many other groups have been overcharged and never noticed?!?! I will stick with the Deaborn location FROM NOW ON!!!

Meh, I received the $30 birthday coupon so decided to come here only cause of that. Overall, the experience was cool but the food was just average. The hibachi chef did not seem to enthusiastic compared to the one next to us and he didn't do as many cool tricks. My mom has actually been here a few times for her birthday, and my dads birthday as well and they always have the same chef. We ordered the Benihana trio (filet mignon, chicken, shrimp). Depending on where you sit, you get less food because if you're sitting on the end you will be either the first or last to get the food and I was the last to get the food every time and got much less than everyone else (the fried rice, shrimp, etc). Also, the amount of oil and butter they use was so ridiculous that I did not even want to eat. I would have probably enjoyed the food better without knowing how much butter they use while cooking. The fried rice was very sub par and I could have easily made it at home, since you watch them cook in front of you, you can basically just copy the recipe. The filet mignon was actually pretty good, chicken was just chicken, and shrimp was just plain ol shrimp cooked in oil and butter. There was nothing really WOW or different about the food. It is really quite easy to make at home. The annoying thing was at the beginning the waitress told us that the coupon changed and it was now buy one get one free. We decided to get the something that was $36 and we asked and said "if we get this, is it buy one get on free" and she was like up that counts! But when the bill came out they only discounted $30, and we asked her why and she said "it's buy one get one free but only up to $30" so in the end the coupon really didn't change.. That was annoying. They also add auto 18% gratuity which sucks. I don't think I will be coming back here again because of how sub par and expensive it was. Even after the coupon it was $68 with the auto tip.

My birthday month is coming to a close, so we have to pull out all the stops with the remaining 'free' email club items. At Benihana, it is a doozy - join The Chef's Table on their website (free), and they will send you a certificate for up to $30 off your meal! Yep, 3-0! So I went for it - chateaubriand (8oz filet) and lobster tail! $42 (or $12, as I kept telling myself...as I drank my $9 hot sake and noshed on the $11 Shrimp Lover's Roll). Ken had Hibachi Steak (12oz strip steak). They kept the food coming so we weren't (too) annoyed by all the clanging and oohing at other tables, and the GD out of control children at the table behind us. Brothy onion soup then salad with ginger dressing then fried rice made tableside (note: this costs an extra $2.50 pp, which they don't tell you) then little shrimp bites and zuchinni pieces with dipping sauces. Finally the entrees. My steak was more tender than Ken's but his had nice flavor. The lobster was awesome. Not sure if I would have splurged this much without the discount, but I'm looking forward to it again when Ken's birthday rolls around in July. The hostess told us starting next month the certificates will only be good Monday through Thursday, which makes sense because it was packed last night. While on their website I noticed a mention of 'All You Can Eat Sushi'. What now??! I asked - only available M-Th dinner, $27.50 pp, and it is pretty much all of the sushi rolls on their menu. They request that you control how many rolls you order at a time - no 12 rolls for 2 people on one order - but other than that, go for it. We enjoyed the Shrimp Lover's Roll, and we easily spend $50 for sushi, so this might be worth a go for us.

ok I will try to keep this short... It Was my Birthday and as another Yelper reminded me, Benihana's has this cool Gift Certificate they send to Chef's Table members. So here I was I had this $30 BDay cerftificate and Today the thing Expires! What to do, what to do? Make a lunch business meeting with a prospective client at Benihana's Of Course. I arrived at 11:15am and asked the Manager if I could use this certificate on anything. Yep, anything I like as long as its not Alcoholic. Sweet. 10mins later I was sitting at a table and my prospective client and I were ordering drinks - Me - Japanese Green Iced Tea. Client (Robert) - some weird but cool Lemonade. Overall my biggest complaint and I am coming out to say it now is because neither of us wanted to Order the Teppanyaki (the Hibachi) the Wait is much Longer. We were in some back room area across from the Sushi Bar and there was 1 waitress taking care of 18 tables. It was crazy. Also for the 1st 30mins there was only One sushi chef working the bar. Any who. I had this $30 certificate to spend on myself and did not want to waste it. My Client - Robert - is a Vegetarian and was getting a bunch of sushi rolls and some side dishes. I think I drank two iced teas before the waitress came back to take our orders... Robert ordered 4 vegetable rolls, 1 order of edamame, and a miso soup. I decided on 2 vegetable rolls, 1 kappamaki roll, and the Chicken Yakisoba lunch portion. I really was not realizing I had pretty much ordered enough food for 3 people just for myself. Robert tells me he always orders extra so he can have snack for later. Good point. Waitress comes back with a salad for me. I did not realize my Yakisoba lunch came with a house salad AND vegetable fried rice... Wow now the realization starts to sink in... I should not of eaten breakfast. Finally the rolls... WOW just one Vegetable roll is 5 pieces. 5 big honking slices... and I ordered 2 Rolls. I could not believe Robert ordered 4 rolls. But Oh Well live and learn right. The Vegetable roll IMHO looks like a flipping salad... tomato, carrot, cucumber, avocado, lettuce inside of sushi rice and wrapped in nori. The Kappamaki roll was normal sized 6 pc with just cucumber. they gave us a whopping portion of pickled ginger too. I love the stuff. I usually have to pay extra to get more at other eateries. Roberts edamame was piping hot. I've never eaten them before. apparently they are just salted steam soybeans. Well more power to him I guess. His Miso was a decent sized bowl. I am thinking I should of tried it but it was over $3 for a bowl. With the Rolls at $4.50 each we were both racking up the bills. Fortunately I had been keeping tabs on what I ordered. We got down to business and I was pleased with my proposals and Robert seemed interested in my potential for helping his company. during the back and forth the waitress brought me 2 more iced teas and Robert had another lemonade. I have no clue where I was storing all the Tea. I know I was thirsty. It was good Tea too. Finally my Chicken Yakisoba was the last thing to arrive. We had been there a good 45mins by then and I honestly was pretty much stuffed. Robert told me that Yakisoba is common pub style food. I was reminded by my recent trip to Hanzo's and remember I saw Yakisoba and Yakiudon on the menu. DANG, I could of tried it There and Did not realize what I was getting at Benihanas. I have no clue how AUTHENTIC the Yakisoba is at Benihana but It was plentiful... stir fired ramen noodles, grilled chicken, scallions, diced zicchini, white onions, and mushrooms in some sort of stir fry sauce. However It did not have any kick... Fortunately for me... Benihana's Has my all time Favorite Japanese S&B CHILI Pepper spice... I think I used Half the bottle on my Yakisoba and Vegetable rolls. Robert just laughed at me. Yeah I am a Chili Pepper Fool. I'll admit it. Ok so There we were we had finished our business in the middle of this long lunch I was thinking it was over, it had been over 1hr and the Waitress comes back with Another ICE TEA... BAM she was on the Ball. I was happy, Robert was happy. Robert had to go so he paid for his meal and left his tip. Waitress came back with my bill $0.00. NICE. I figured out She deserved at least 15% based upon what I would of spent. I handed it to her and she saw it and smiled. 4 stars for Food (mine lacked flavor till I had to splatter pepper on everything), 4.5 stars for Slow service HOWEVER there was ONLY 1 waitress taking care of 18 tables and She was on the Ball with Refills. 5 stars for lunch with new business client that will help me get to the next level. I hope.

Wow today was the worst experience at Benihana ever. They are remodeling and their parking lot is a zoo. Their is a major lack in organization going on in general. Our server was terrible, (not sure if she was new/not very bright/ambivalent) she brought out soup while we were still eating salad (no really, I don't want my soup hot, I'd rather it air out for 5 minutes :X.) The sushi was brought out sporadically, which had I known this I would have went somewhere else. I don't want to eat the same roll continuously...that's why we ordered a variety. After we were done eating she asked if we wanted more water. Um, we already paid the bill good timing lady. Ugh sorry I was blown away by how horrible a server she was. Funny too because one of the other guests at the table (my friend) works at the Dearborn location. You would have thought she would try to make us feel a little special if not just a basic decent job. Aside from my rant on the overall terrible-ness, the sushi is really sub-par. I would probably stick to hibachi food if I ever go back. I really feel just a few years ago the quality of sushi was better...I think the california roll speaks for what is to come and boy did that suck. Sorry, I am a pretty easy going person this was a two thumbs down.

Really enjoy coming to this restaurant, always fun atmosphere, depending on who you are seated next to might slightly effect the dinner experience though. Wife can't get enough of the rice and chicken so we make it a point to get in every 2 months or so. It was very loud on the night we went and we had reservations, DO make reservations even if its a tuesday night trust me call for reservations... We have visited about a dozen times and food quality has been consistent but the noise on our last visit was just SO loud, they had just remodeled and there are about 9 tables all within earshot and all were full on this night, the group we were seated with was also very loud i mean 3x louder than you need to be to be heard so after about 40 mins of that we were ready to get going. But as usual loved our food and takehome boxes didn't make it past midnight in the fridge :) I would give this place a 5 stars but the costs are a bit high (we had pops with our dinner and it was still $105 for two combo dinners with fried rice), Make reservations trust me, you will most likely have a great time just be prepared for the bill at the end cuz it's not cheap but if you sign up for birthday coupons and do dinner combo specials you can have a nice night without breaking the bank.

So, my dad has recently become obsessed with having lunch at this place... so, never fails every time I come to Michigan for a visit my dad wants to take me here for lunch. I don't really have any complaints. Sometimes I wish they were more vigilant about refilling you beverage. I usually get the scallops and they've always been fresh and cooked fine. I need to remember to ask for the dressing on the side of the salad, cause the lettuce is usually swimming in the ginger dressing. I also wish I could just get the rice plain instead of fried... I bet they would give it I asked? I don't eat meat and generally don't like fried foods, so this isn't an idea restaurant for my palate. However, I'm not going to complain about a free scallop lunch courtesy of my father. So I've had worse, but I've had better

First of all, the place looks like it needs a make over, doesn't appear clean and upholstered furniture in need of repair. The only reason we ate at Benihana was because of the birthday coupon. I can't believe the fat and calories that are added to the food on the grill. I am afraid to look at the calories and fat in the chicken fried rice which I may add that I did not eat. I was appalled. Every item on the grill has some type of fat added to it. This place is expensive too. I don't get the crowds or the draw.

Don't bother making reservations - better yet, don't waste your time on this trashy establishment. I made reservations for Father's Day for 7pm. At 730pm my husband went to check on our table and was rudely told that they were still getting it ready. He went back and sat down, when the manager informed him that, "Even if you have a reservation, it could take 1 - 1.5 hours". Then asked him very rudely, "What do you expect me to do, kick people out of their tables?" After reading other reviews on here, it is apparent that he doesn't know what having a reservation entails. Oh, another tip, speaking to my husband or anyone in my party in the tone he used and the way he chose to address their obvious mistake in scheduling, will absolutely make me leave. We left and went to Mitchell's Fish Market and had THE BEST Father's Day. Even had a few laughs with the staff at Mitchell's , thanks to the worst restaurant manager I have ever come across. Thanks! We won't be back.

Now I am a regular Benihana patron. My family and I have gone to Benihana in Troy for birthdays for as long as I can remember and I'm not usually a yelp user. But my experience at Benihana at this location was SO BAD ... that as I'm eating the leftovers, I had to stop eating, jump onto yelp and write about it. I went in during lunch yesterday. The chicken is dried it out it takes like cardboard. All the cooks that were serving were Mexican, which is fine, because I know they can usually cook well - but in this instance, not so much. I'm not usually a fan of the tricks the Hibachi people play, and that's why I was going in to try the lunch express menu. But for people paying top dollar for a Hibachi experience, the only thing he could do was the choo choo train onion trick. Nothing else. He scraped the counter about 4 times throughout cooking b/c things were burning. This Benihana location does not have lunch express. Lunch Express is when a table is there for walk ins where the cook is already cooking, so you won't have to wait the way you normally do before you can start to eat. They only have a lunch menu. So that was the first disappointment. I wanted to go in and out and get great food. Second, the waitress was an idiot. She had a foul attitude the entire time and took forever. Everything she was detailing in the menu was an upgrade, so they were trying to upsell everything. The menu was designed for beef and you had to upgrade to steak. Mushrooms weren't included and if you wanted it, again you had to upgrade. But comparing prices from this location to Troy, there was no real difference - it wasn't that the menu was lower and the upgrades put it to the same price as Troy's. It was the same price as the steak and they just kept upgrading. I ordered beef and shrimp b/c I figured you couldn't really go wrong, but right after the beef was cooked up - the cook poured a bar-b-q sauce of some kind that overpowered every and all flavors of the beef. It felt like they were covering it up b/c the quality of the meat was bad. It was seriously the worst Benihana experience ever. If anyone is going to go for Hibachi there are a ton of other places to go to with good chefs and service. It looks like the reviews for this location goes up and down, but to those that said they had a great experience. Try the Troy location and I think you'll be blown away - there wouldn't be enough stars available if you thought this place was good.

Rating 3.5 stars. I ordered the Chateaubriand. I thought it was delicious. Go with the chicken fried rice as well. It is very good. Overall I thought all of the food was great. Oh and if you don't order an entree with shrimp in it, you will think you're getting ripped off when the grill master-dude gives 3x as much shrimp to people who did get shrimp in their entrees. But the extra shrimp they get during the appetizer portion is for their entree as well. The atmosphere is okay. I was there with my sister so we didn't care about the conversation we were having and whether or not others were eavesdropping. I wouldn't recommend this place for a first date if you are going to be sitting at a grill. It is seating for 8 and you have no control over who the other 6 people are. The one major complaint I have is the lack of beverage service. The place could be making a killing if they assigned a beverage person to a set of grills. We ordered beers when we sat down and surely would've ordered two more if we would've been asked BEFORE the end of the meal. The guys operating the grill have enough to take care of. They do not give you the feeling that you have an actual "server" to take care of you.

I've been to this location twice (and the dearborn location countless times). The first time, I had a two-year-old (it was actually her birthday, we thought she would like the experience) and a baby, and the two-year-old was particularly fussy and wouldn't eat any of the food (although she devoured the leftovers the next day). So I wasn't really paying attention to things like the service or atmosphere or show or flavor of the food. All I really cared about was getting this over with and getting her out of there so the other customers could enjoy their meals. We left a big tip to make up for the rice she threw all over the place. The second time, we didn't make that mistake again. We hired a babysitter and printed our birthday coupons (My wife and I have birthdays within a month of each-other and Benihana gives you a $30.00 coupon for your birthday.) and made sure we had the gift card my mother-in-law had given us (birthday coupons don't cover alcohol). This was a much more pleasant experience. We didn't have a reservation, so we checked in, and sat in the bar to wait. I ordered a mohito, and it was one of the better ones I've had. I had only had enough time for a few sips of it, though, before they told us the table was ready. My regular order is the Filet Mignon, but I was going all out, so I ordered the Chateau Briaunt (not really sure how to spell that) instead. This was one of the better hibachi chefs I've seen. Lots of good tricks, and a good sense of humor. I told him to use extra garlic butter and give all the mushrooms to my wife (who told him to give all her shrimp to me). I ordered another mojito before the chef asked me to throw a shrimp tail into his hat (which wouldn't have been easy without alcohol in my system, I was always too nerdy for sports), and I missed and hit the chef at the next table over. My steak was the last to be served, and it was well worth the wait. He told me which sauce would be good for it, but I didn't want to ruin the flavor with any kind of sauce. That was the best meat I had ever had. And then came the free ice cream. You have to put up with the humiliation of being sung to, but there were only two people at our table who weren't celebrating birthdays, so it wasn't so bad. This time, we left a big tip because we had such a good experience.

I hadn't been to a Benihana in years but we decided to give this place a go with a group of friends and it was awesome!! The meal starts with a small salad with yummy ginger dressing and an fried onion soup. My hubby and I decided to split the chicken entree since I remembered the portions were on the bigger side. And that's when the show begins!! Our hibachi guy's name was Louie and he was great! You get a shrimp appetizer that he cuts the tails off and flings them into his hat and chef coat pocket. He makes the chicken fried rice which is loaded with butter but it's 'oh so good'!! Overall the meal and show was great! I'll definitely be back here again sooner than later!!

My husband and I took our 4 and 5 year old early on a Saturday on our anniversary so we could beat any rush. It was ok...a little overpriced and our person that was cooking didn't do a lot of the "tricks" that the others did. Kids were a little disappointed. :( Probably wouldn't come back again unless a group of friends were going and it was their suggestion.

Ate here for dinner. My first impression was not great, as we had to wait for the hostesses to finish their convo about "who hooked up with who" before seating us. The restaurant was pretty much deserted. My boyfriend and I both settled on the Benny Excellence and flavored lemonades. My (mango) lemonade tasted like water with a teaspoon of mango syrup in it. When our chef came out, he looked bored and disinterested in being there. I guess after a few minutes, he remembered that his tip did depend on him at least pretending to have a personality. He then began to interact with our table. The chef was definitely talented and wowed our table with his ability to juggle eggs and knives. Additionally, the food was pretty good. I think I may return...but hope to have better luck with the staff.

I just had lunch here today. As I was sitting down, two men at the table next to me left b/c they had been waiting so long and their order hadn't even been started, so I was nervous, b/c I have waited a long time before as well, both at lunch (when no one was there) and dinner (when it was busy). I ordered sushi, and it came quite quickly. I think the issue was with the deep fried orders. Another table was asking for their roll, they were told that it was being cut up, took longer b/c it had to go in the fryer. One guy was walking around looking for the waitress b/c he needed soy sauce. Another lady was looking for the waitress for more ginger. The sushi was fresh and delicious. I don't know why they can't get their act together though. And it always seems to be busy despite this. I am sad that Akasaka on 6 mile seems to have closed. That was my favorite lunchtime sushi joint - spicy tuna don and a bowl of udon noodles!

I recently stopped by here after being driven out of Ajishin in Novi by terrible service. Benihana was great in comparison. Even with no reservation, we had no wait to sit down in the sushi bar. Service was excellent and friendly, and our sushi and fried rice was delicious. We also ordered saki sangria. Delicious!

Hello, My whole family came in for a day and a half to Michigan, and we unfortunately chose Benihanas of Novi to celebrate my sister's 21st birthday on Friday. Originally, around 5pm, I made a 9pm reservation because it was the soonest reservation available; however, my brother & sister arrived at the restaurant at shortly after 6pm, and were told that we would be seated as a walkin within an hr- one hr and half. The rest of my family arrived shortly after and waited patiently for our table. Firstly, I have worked at a restaurant over the summer, and I know how people should do their job, the hostesses were terrible and very bitchy. Also, the manager was extremely rude not even acknowledging the guest who were waiting for their table. Overall a very threatening atmosphere. While there was two tables available during the entire time we were waiting the hostesses were saving those tables for other walkins & "reservations." We got out table well past the 1hr & a half they had told us. Our waited was really great & we were seated with a couple that was pretty friendly; however, the restaurant did not seem to want to accomodate my sister with her food allergy, and a staff member of the restaurant really upset my mother over the issue. The chef was ok, but he did not seem happy to be working at all. In the end, they took off my sister's meal, but they ruined the majority of our very short vacation. very unhappy

As far as Benihana goes, the food at this location is much better than others I've tried! The Las Vegas roll was a great appetizer, very unique - I would like one now!! I had the Teriyaki beef, my freind had the Hibachi chiken, we both left stuffed, with boxes and a really fun night out. As others have posted, your meal comes with salad, soup, shrimp, veggies and your "meat" course. The chefs show off their knife and spatula skills to the group table - it really is fun, especially for kids! A fun place to have a night out.

My husband and son love Sushi and go for the "all you can eat" $30 per person sushi deal Monday - Thurs. What you need to know is 1). They really don't want you to eat Sushi, they want to you buy drinks so ...you wait forever for your order 2). For those that do not order Sushi at your table, they will stare at you the entire time you are there to see if you "share". I do not eat Sushi, and (on purpose) withheld my food order for a VERY LONG TIME while my husand and son ate. I looked over and there were no less than (3) of Benihana's finest watching me. I started to stare back at them; after all this is really rude. We were there for several hours, and I started adding up how much Benihana was spending (dollars per hour) for no less than 3 employees to watch if I "took a bite of the Sushi" Several Benihana employees started to "dart" behind and hide as they noticed me looking directly at them intentionally to make eye contact (Note: We spend $100 bucks to enjoy this game.....) When the 3 employees took cover, as I pointed at them and kept my eyes right on them so they knew I did not appreciate this They sent over a waitress who said, "I do not mean to be RUDE but are you SHARING?: I replied, not at all. However, it is QUITE rude to stare at yoru customers, and even ask me that question. The poor gal was probably the low gal on the employee list, as the Manager should have been the one to come to the table if he had an issue, after all it is the MANAGERS that should do the dirty work Next time we go (unfortunately, my son and husband can really eat up a pile of Sushi so, we go go back on the all you can eat deal), I intend to order a glass of water with lemon (FREE), no wine, no soda, no Salad, No Food. I will then let them play their cat and mouse game, hide in the corner, ask for more water, etc. After all, I do need some entertainment while my husband and son sit for hours and eat and eat and eat and eat...... BOTTOM LINE: You get treated better at McDonald's than at Benihana. EXPECT to get treated like crap. ONLY go for the ALL YOU CAN EAT and EAT and EAT. It is not really good food (the dishes I order are full of fat, etc) and overpriced. I can stand to loose a few pounds so I will be on a DIET at Benihana's in NOVI, Michigan

Love the Benihana trio. I'm not a big fan of steak, but their teppanyaki style of grilling really makes their filet mignon succulent. The chefs are very entertaining and talented. They cook the food right in front of you on a grill and put on a show for you at the same time. The big must have is the chicken fried rice, also prepared on the grill. Garlic butter, and lots of it, is their secret to delicious eats. Garlic + Butter= Love! Their sushi is decent, although some locations put lettuce as a filler to skimp on ingredients... not cool. They have remodeled a number of locations to appeal to a more upscale sensibility and also offer free valet parking during their peak hours. The problem is that touches like the lettuce in the sushi and onion soup as an appetizer instead of miso contradict that sentiment. I get confused as to whether they are trying to be different or trying to be cheap. Either way, I'm a big time fan and will continue to be so unless they expand their 'cost saving measures'.

My neighbors took us there for my birthday and treated us. What a treat! The chef cooks at your table juggling the cooking utensils and he's very entertaining. The food is great, I had Chicken Terriacki and it was wonderful! Their children had healthy food instead of the usual Mac and Cheese and Chicken Fingers. Yes, it's pricey but it's worth it!

After trying Samurai steak house & not liking it we decided to give Benihana a shot, sometimes Hibachi food can be not only entertaining but enjoyable as well, Benihana is the McDonald's of Hibachi food (i don't mean that in a negative way) The quality is consistent & you pretty know what your getting & this branch delivers, the service is good, the chefs generally fun & the food predictable.

One of the closest sushi places to where I used to live. The sushi bar is where it's at. There is this one sushi chef there, little old man, that is the bomb. Their sushi was extremely well done and sashimi was very fresh. There was also a female sushi chef whom my ex claims had a crush on me because she always offered us more cucumber salad, extra shrimp nigiri and asked me a lot of personal questions.... (-_-)

We usually go to Benihana in Troy. Decided this time to go this one since we were on this side of town. Saturday around 1:30 PM. Place was busy and we waited for about 45 minutes. Wife got upset they kept seating larger parties who came in after us but I understand this "strategy" since it was only 3 of us and they want to maximize seating at the hibachi tables. But they were understaffed. We were finally seated with another party. The grill was clean but there were dirty dishes still left on the side where chef stays. Okkk... . 5 minutes after we set, waitress comes in takes our order. After 10 minutes finally the drinks came in. In the meantime, I'm watching the table in front of us. It was one of the parties that got seated before us. About half an hour before us or even more. There is no chef at their table cooking, I don't think they've even had their salad and soup served to them yet because I saw the bowls sitting empty, clean, on their table. One of the people there asked the waitress when was their sushi coming since it's been a while she ordered it. I got curious and I told our waitress how come there's no chef there yet since they've been sitting there for half an hour. She said they were running behind and didn't have enough chefs. So I said "so it will take over 30 minutes for someone to finally come and cook at our table?" She said most likely yes. We got up and left.

I went here yesterday for my birthday. It was my first time at this restaurant. I had a lot of fun and the hibachi grill seating held much entertainment value. The staff was friendly and inviting. The food was also very tasty. I was kind of shocked how they used that garlic butter on everything they cooked though. If you are watching what you are eating this is not the place to eat at. Overall i enjoyed my experience. A big downside was the poor ventilation in the rooms with he grills. My clothes and hair smelled like the food when i left which I did not like at all.

Real rating: 3.5 Every time I go its always slow service! It took about 1 hour 45 minutes total, also the waitress tend to forget stuff, this time they forgot my dads rice and forgot to bring me a salad without the dressing. However the negatives being said the food quality and performance is always great and makes going back worth it, plus they give you $30 off for your birthday with a free ice cream. (strawberry is awesome) This time I loaded up on the chicken fried rice ordering 3, I thought that was a lot but the girl across the table got 5!

We've been here before so this was the second time around with the birthday special. We ordered the Spicy Chicken and the special entree with chicken and steak. This came with a salad, soup, green tea, grilled veggies, and rice (or chicken fried rice if you add extra $$). All of this is highlighted in the menu. The waitress was a little bit hit or miss - she forgot my rice and the entire table's green tea. The restaurant seems a bit understaffed as well - everything besides the hibachi cooking was very slow. The hibachi cook we had was awesome - very quick service, friendly, and put on quite the show. We really enjoyed his humor and the flavor of the food he put together. He even gave me some of the extra chicken fried rice that didn't fit on anyone else's plate. The birthday deal is a great one and we thoroughly enjoyed the green tea ice cream after our meal.

We came in for a late lunch on a Sunday, because it seemed like something my five year-old would think was cool. "Let me check the reservations... it'll be about 20 minutes." 20 minutes? At a chain restaurant that isn't even close to 50% capacity? Turns out, they were looking to fill a table, because there was a reservation at 2:00, and it was about 1:40. Way to make us feel like we're waiting on standby. This was compounded by letting the person know we were leaving, and being told "Oh, we were just about to seat you... after seating them." Sorry, but there are more than enough Benihana knockoffs in the area where we can be appreciated for wanting the same boring food and cheeseball theatrics in the middle of a Sunday.

Food was delicious, my wow roll was amazing and the hibachi chef was very friendly and did a great job. However, we are not coming back to this place. our server was terrible! The worst ever! He was in a hurry, didn't care to answer our questions nicely and refuse to serve beers to our husbands. We were celebrating, had designated drivers and because of him the night ended in a very bad note.

Just went here for a birthday dinner with my family. I thought the food and atmosphere were good. We didn't make reservations but were seated within 20 minutes or so. It was pretty busy which I wasn't expecting for a Monday night. Since I used the coupon I really thought the final bill was fair. I will definitely be back!

This is my birthday dinner. I'm trying to figure out what what was so different than the previous visit. It was my daughter and I we ate at a chefs table. There was a family of four w/ two kids and two guys on the other-side. Our server was good but. Our chef was very hard to understand I had to keep asking him go repeat himself. I'm wondering if it was his energy level we spent $70 after the $30 dinner coupon. We called made reservations told the person we have two birthdays and two coupons. Nothing was mentioned that you had to purchase a meal to get a free one. I broke up with my bf two months ago I almost went by myself. Which makes me even more puzzled what they would have done. There's a lot of kids there. I only mention this because one meal three people. And as a fellow yelper mentioned things they jus put on your plate n then charge you extra for like chicken fried rice. I did not like the put it on the plate n the bill gets bigger as you find but you don't know it. Huge turn off to me. I pay cash for everything and literally can be short of money and not even know it. That's probably what bothered me most. I would hate to ever cut into a servers tip because a company does not fully disclose hidden charges. I'm not going to be coming back here again.

I tried to make a reservation for Valentine's Day for my boyfriend and I and 6 other couples. They wouldn't take the reservation, they tried to book us at 2pm. I said so your going to tell me that your not going to take 7 other reservations for 7pm on that day...she told me that they probably would. So why the hell wouldn't you take them now. Her response was that they were busy that day...funny that's why I called I month in advance to make reservations. Total BS, how do you run a restaurant like that.

Benihana never disappoints. I've been to this location many times and I can't recall ever having a bad experience. This time around, we were celebrating my wife's birthday. She had her birthday coupon, so we enjoyed that as part of the experience. Our server was very prompt in refilling drinks and coming to take our order. The key to any experience here is to eat your food as you go along. If you wait until the chef is done, you'll be sitting there all night trying to finish and holding up a table for other people. We did that tonight and it seemed to work very well. Our reservation was for 7 and we were seated at 7:10...just enough time for the hosts to fill the table with the right amount of people. And since they've remodeled, there is much more room for people to wait for their tables. It was a good night.

Had lunch here last Saturday (5/16/15) and our server was amazing. If you go to this restaurant, ask for Abraham! He was super nice and we never had an empty drink. Our cook was fun - we didn't have a very involved table but that was no fault of hers. The food was awesome.

I chose this location my Girls Night birthday celebration, so there were 6 of us. The food was delicious and our chef was fabulous. He had a great personality and made me (the birthday girl) the center of his attention. Our server was sweet and attentive but we had some issues with our order being entered incorrectly and it took some time to correct and straighten out. Overall we truly enjoyed ourselves. The free photo they took and gave me to take home was awesome and I was able to access it on their website and send it to everyone in attendance. I would definitely recommend this location for parties of 6-8 people. The sushi was excellent and I recommend the green tea ice cream!

Not too impressed, overall. I got 4 types of sushi, which were all pretty good. My wife ordered the beef filet. It was cooked fine, but it was all chopped up like you'd expect of cheap beef tips. It was far too overpriced for the quality received. The onion soup that came with the entrée was ok, but nothing I'd ever order. The salad was typical iceberg lettuce with a thick dressing of odd texture over it. Service was very slow, especially considering it was a Thursday at 5pm (not too many people there, yet). Overall, this will probably be something my wife and I do exactly twice a year, for the Birthday special coupon. Even then, I'd almost rather go to a better sushi place and have my wife choose somewhere else to eat dinner. We sat on the non-hibachi side. We wanted quiet, and we got it. That was nice. Maybe this place is fun in groups over on the hibachi side, and helps stomach the high cost for decidedly mediocre quality?

In case you haven't noticed, I'm all about return patronage when a joint has good food. So I stowed my discontent with the SNAFU from last visit and opted to try Benihana again. I promise this will be my last update for them for awhile. That said, it's hard to find really great sushi around the 8 mile and Farmington corridor (please don't suggest Sushi House to me, I've been and I'll pass). Akasaka has closed, and Novi is a tad too far to get carryout for lunch but Benihana is right in my backyard and it's pretty damn solid. We only went with rolls this go-around. The Las Vegas (with Salmon, cream cheese and jalapenos), the Shrimp Lover's roll, and the Dragon, again. I love my nigiri but prices are just getting out of hand everywhere for nigiri and since I wasn't buying it was the boss' choice. I need to mention that our order was ready on time today which pleased me very much, and additionally the rolls, no matter how Americanized, were delicious. I'm a traditionalist and generally not a fan of things like cream cheese in a roll but I've gotta hand it to the Vegas roll...the jalapenos are the money and even though it's deep fried it was a really tasty break from the standard. On top of that they don't skimp on the eel meat on the Dragon rolls and the Shrimp Lover's is absolutely for shrimp lovers! I still haven't had occasion to dine-in but I will sooner than later.

This afternoon my sister and I stopped by Benihana to place a to go order and decided to utilize their happy hour special. We are so glad we did. The gentleman that was behind the bar is named Mario and he is quick, efficient and is willing to answer any questions you may have. Plus he makes an absolutely amazing Exotic Mojito. The happy hour specials run Mon-Fri and include appetizers, a wide variety of handmade rolls and a good selection of drinks all for much less than you would pay during any other time of the day. Benihana is an experience that goes far beyond the traditional and always amazing atmosphere that first comes to mind when you think of the establishment. I say this because everywhere you look tier is something to be seen. I recommend using the chop sticks for meat and sushi and if your a novice just try our best and if it doesn't come naturally you always have the fork for back up. While here my sister and I observed handmade sushi rolls being created, learned that if you add a fruit purée to mixed drinks it creates a whole new arena of flavorful and delicious combinations and Mario even put together a red chefs hat for the family next to us who we're waiting for their table. If it's been a while since you've been to Benihana give it another try and be sure to sign up for rewards. Which I know is obvious but speaking from experience I know it's easy to overlook. Best~Robert

A group of us have February birthdays. We had reservations for around 9pm here with our birthday coupons. We were waiting from around 8 til we were seated at 10:30p. Yes, 10:30. Despite our reservations, we were unable to be seated until an hour and a half after we anticipated. So they can only control so much. Maybe every party there just so happened to eat very slowly. Fine. Then comes the food and show. The chef did all the usual tricks, but needed to retry most of them in order to succeed. At one point, his failure trick with the shrimp tail landed nearby a guest on our table. So he tried to tell the lady guest to throw it into his hat. Which she obliged, but little did he know, her aim was terrible, and off it went...onto the table across the room. Lovely. The wait was horrible, show was as bad as I've seen for Benihana, and food was, as usual, mediocre at best. The steak I got was overly salted and jammed with tons of butter (you could see them make it on the spot). As an attempt to compensate for the failure of the evening, the manager or whoever it was attempted to recomp us by giving us a 15% off next visit coupon. Instead of accepting an unpaired/non-usable birthday coupon (we had one birthday guest unpaired; each birthday coupon needs to be accompanied by a guest ordering a full entree), she offered at 15% discount on our NEXT visit. NOT this visit, a NEXT visit. Psh, as if I'd come back. I wouldn't want to wait another 2.5 hours for a crappy show and a mediocre meal. I'd rather eat somewhere more efficient with better food. But hey, at least they got my steak medium rare?
