Nuggett Downtown Grill Menu

Everything I've gotten from here has been good. Nothing spectacular but a decent meal with pretty generous portions for the price. However, after the last time I went there, I may never go back. Our server was either a complete moron or stoned. He screwed up the orders more than once, and then never came back. I had to keep flagging down other people for silverware, condiments, etc.

Bad. Salad greens were almost fresh. Chicken was microwaved from the freezer. Shell was overcooked, but not recently. Service was good. All for $25.

This is a staple for downtown Niles eating. I just wish the food was better. A side of cottage cheese comes in a bowl that's made for a kid to dip fries in at Mcdonalds. Food is bland with no real flavor and burgers are dry. Really wish they would do better.

One of the worst bartenders I have ever experienced! The guy also happened to be the owner of the Nuggett -- go figure! I went here with a friend last weekend. The place was relatively empty for a friday night around 8pm. We sat at the bar and were served quickly. We were the only people at the bar so the bartender talked a lot to us. We found out soon that he was the owner too. He always served our quickly, but was not the best conversation partner. He did a a lot complaining and was the kind of person who thinks he's always right. He also made a lot of inappropriate sexual jokes which I found very distasteful and talked shit about the waitresses. He seemed like someone who would be very, very difficult to work for and I really feel bad for all the waitstaff who worked there. My friend and I ordered some sandwiches from the bar which took a very long time to get, despite the fact that very few people were actually in the place. The food finally came, but it was rather mediocre. Not awful, but it took way too long. I don't write very many bad Yelp reviews, but after going here I felt I had to. The bartender/owner was one of the biggest jerks I've ever had the privilege of meeting

Overall I'd say this place is average. Not the worst, not the best. Been there about 3 times. Menu: One of the best things about this place is that they have a pretty decent-sized menu including a large variety of foods (appetizers, burgers, mexican, fish, etc) for pretty reasonable prices; however maybe the menu should be trimmed to eliminate some poor selections that probably shouldn't be offered. Ham sandwich with fries? Excellent & so big you can only finish half. Smothered steak? Not so much; tiny, over-cooked & not worth the money. Staff: This is a mixed-bag. I guess it just depends on the luck of the draw. Twice we've had fair-to-good service from polite & helpful younger staff. Last visit? No. We sat in the bar side as we were drinking. Waitress was sloooow and mostly MIA. At one point my husband got up and ordered his own drink from the bar because she just wasn't anywhere to be found. The bartender on that night was a woman and she was not friendly. In fact, she almost seemed put-out to have to be bothered when we wanted a drink. Drinks: I can only comment on the martinis because we didn't have any other type drinks. Martini menu is huge (2 columns), but several seemed like pretty much the same martini with a different name, plus...$10 each. Ouch. And they were definitely not even close to martinis I've had elsewhere in taste comparison (which I guessed as soon as the bartender had to read the menu to figure out how to make them). I'm just thinking for $10 a glass, it should be EXCELLENT and I shouldn't have to get up and get it myself from a grumpy bartender. If we go back, it'll be just for a quick bite with our fingers crossed that we get a decent server. Definitely wouldn't ordered cocktails (or steak) here again.

I hadn't been to the Nuggett in many years. That's because I never had a good experience there. I know better and I don't live here anymore, so when anyone suggests we go there when I'm on a visit home, I politely decline. This week, however, my dad chose and I thought, well, it has been many years since I last gave the Nuggett a chance, so why not? To be fair, we came on a very busy night -- during the weekly car cruise-in. But if you know that you're going to be a major destination on what is a weekly event, you need to make sure you have staffing. We were probably there for 1.5 hours, waiting for our vaguely unappealing food. I felt a little sorry for our server -- he looked about 15 -- when my stepmom asked him how much longer our food was going to be. He was probably more honest than most people would be, and said he didn't know, because the kitchen was really backed up. At least we were sensible enough to order appetizers. We had a half basket of mushrooms and a half basket of onion rings. This was enough to temper the hunger, but the natives were growing restless. Me? I never wanted to eat here and briefly proposed that we cancel our main order. But my stepmom said, no, I'm hungry and I want my food. She had a salad and my dad had a beef sandwich of some sort. By then, we'd been there so long that none of us really wanted to eat all of our food -- and in fact, the car show was almost over. I had a plate of mushroom ravioli with garlic toast. Here's where I can be generous: I liked the garlic toast somewhat, but by then I just didn't want to eat much. It also looked like there was more than a cup of cream sauce with my ravioli and the sauce was salty. They also serve a side of shredded parmesan, which was nice. I really only ate about half of it, consigned the rest to leftovers, and hoped my dad or stepmom would eat them for me. Wayyy too much sauce. Oh, as a final note: The decor of the Nuggett doesn't appear to have changed in the entire existence of the restaurant/bar. This could be charming in a place that can serve decent food in a timely fashion. But they don't. I told a couple of my family members about our time at the Nuggett and they both said, oh yeah, they were never known for food. But drinks! Yeah, so if you want to drink, and you don't want to leave town, this is the place to do it. You just don't have a lot of options in Niles. But I think I'd pass next time, even for drinks.

We've been coming here off & on for many years - agree with Kelly M., nothing spectacular but a decent meal. On Mother's Day - 5/11/2014, we came because we were already downtown and Mom wanted a Bloody Mary. She said it was bland - and that's saying A LOT! My brother added salt & pepper and she said it was better. Bro & Sis had the roast pork dinner - Special for the day - not on menu - but maybe it should be! They really enjoyed their meals - especially the mashed potatoes!! (Not something you expect to get at a bar) Mom had mashed potatoes too and said they were the best in the area!! :) My sandwich and fries was just fine. Our server was great. Patient, friendly, checked on us often.

Food is decent as we have eaten there several times but the service is terrible. The waitress started off by telling us the specials and my wife ordered an item that we were told was on special. (3 of us heard her clearly) when we got our bill, it was incorrectly priced. We informed the waitress and she said that is.not what she said so I asked for a manager. A young lady approached us and said there is no way my waitress can be mistaken and so we paid what thy asked us to pay. I asked to speak to the owner and she said he left and that "he is my dad so good luck with that." My wife was very upset and I was simply disappointed.

I've been coming here for years...about 3 times/yr. It's been ok, burgers are good, service good, etc. This last time, however, I was a bit dissapointed. They dont have a basic burger on the kids menu, so my son had to order an adult size burger (and price) and couldn't finish it, of course. My daughter ordered the kids chicken strips...c'mon...ONE chicken strip? It was about 3" long!!! She pretty much filled up on fries. I ordered the patty melt, something I usually order at pub/burger joints. I should have read the description, but my fault, I didn't. This patty melt didn't have grilled onions (?) and it included a slice of ham in it (?). Why mess with a classic patty melt? I was able to pull out the ham, but I missed my grilled onions. Kinda pricey too I thought, for a meal that wasn't that great.

The name is now the "the nuggett". Had the nuggett burger and it was a good burger but nothing special, I think the price ($6ish) was a little high for the size and items it came with. Got the chips and it was a snack bag of chips and the applesauce and it was a snack cup of applesauce. So I think the only thing that was made at the nuggett was the burger. I did like how the bun was toasted.

If you're planning on running away to Niles, and are looking for an old school bar with awesome specials, check out the Nuggett. Their burgers are top notch, and are only 3 dollars with cheese, toppings & fries on Wednesdays. $2 imports on wednesdays as well. I got a burger for me and my honey, and 2 beers apiece (2 red stripes, Becks dark, and Stella) for 14 dollars total. There are other specials during the week that look worth checking out. I know that the soup is the bomb as well. I really dig the atmosphere. Very down to earth, funny people working there. The owner is a trip. It's located in the heart of downtown Niles, which is worth visiting in itself.

Having patronized the Nuggett for three decades, I was shocked last night when I sent a drink back and the owner refused to even discuss replacing it. Adding in the less-than-stellar food and smelly confines (you WILL smell like the grill when you leave), this restaurant/bar has lost another customer.
