Quality has gone down here quite a lot in the past couple years. I always order entrees instead of the buffet, so maybe that's the difference. I notice that I always feel queasy when I leave, and the place never looks very clean. I do like that they have a much wider variety of dishes than Pi's, including spicier sauces (which is my preference.) I honestly think that if Gordon Ramsay showed up here, this place would definitely end up on Kitchen Nightmares. If they invested in some better lighting and some dishes that weren't chipped, this place might not seem so much like food poisoning waiting to happen.

This place is awesome! Definitely the best Chinese food we can remember eating. My husband had the sweet and sour soup, it was a clean light vinegary sour with egg, he loved it. I had the egg drop soup. It was very light in flavor and thick. There were frozen peas in it which was kinda weird, but it was still great. We shared the beef with broccoli and shrimp with garlic sauce. We asked for both of them to be made without sugar and there was no problem with our request. The beef was super flavorful and broccoli was crispy, to our relief, since soggy broccoli is one of my husbands least favorite things. The shrimp with garlic was also delicious, I really liked the amount of garlic, it wasn't overpowering but you knew you were eating it.

Best Chinese buffet in Midland! Consistently awesome food. I only wish my stomach could hold more. Never disappoints.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Midland, especially for lunch. The food is delicious, and the portions are generous. The lunch special includes an entree that can easily be two meals, fried rice (also easily spread over two meals), choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup, and either an egg roll or two crab rangoons. Standout dishes are Szechuan chicken and princess chicken. The menu prices are good enough and the portions are generous enough to make the buffet unnecessary. Really -- just order off the menu.

My wife and were passing through Midland, and stopped in here due to their high review score. We were not disappointed. We both had the buffet and were very impressed. It's waaay better than the chinese buffet food you get in Denver. The interior was groovy and the service was friendly.

Great flavors and portions at an excellent price. Their regular rice is different, but quite tasty, if you want plain rice I imagine you could ask for it. I come to Clare at least every summer to visit family, and am very pleased with this place. The quality is right up there with my usual haunts in South Orange County, California, and the prices here are better!

Always generous portions, delicious food, and friendly service. I settled on Yummy Chicken being my favorite dish from here, and the atmosphere inside the restaurant is enjoyable as well. Absolutely worth checking out for good Chinese food in mid-Michigan.

Can't believe people can think place serves good food. Been there twice which was enough. The food was not very good, and the second time we ate there, my whole family came down with diarrhea the next morning.. Plus, if you really want to be grossed out, check out the Men's bathroom. The place smells like urine and there is pee all over the toilet seats, floor, and no soap in the dispenser.... Appetizing isn't it?

I would say this place is probably closer to a 3.5, but I rounded up because I really haven't had decent Chinese food in a while and couldn't really remember anything that was better. My boyfriend and I were visiting his family in Saginaw over Christmas and they really enjoy this place, so we decided to get some takeout from there on Friday night. Since we did eat out, I can't really comment on the restaurant or the service or anything like that. We ordered quite a selection of food, including sesame chicken, beef and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, and orange chicken. Also scored some egg rolls and crab rangoon (although I think they call it cream cheese crab or something like that). Everything tasted pretty good, except for the egg rolls. I just wasn't a fan of the flavors in that, although maybe it was just me because everyone else seemed to like them. I really enjoyed the sesame chicken the most out of everything that I tasted, although it was all good. I would definitely order from China Palace again, and it seems like the buffet it pretty good as long as you get there when the food is fresh. If we're ever in the area again (which I'm sure we will be) then I'll see if we can stop in for the buffet instead of ordering out.

I have eaten here before, never impressed, but this is in Midland, a veritable desert of decent food. Today will be my last visit. I sent my legal assistant to pick up a take out order. While mediocrity is on the upper limit of the capabilities, they didn't quite reach it today. While, less than mediocre food in a restaurant of questionable cleanliness is bad, what was maddening is the fact that cutlery is not sent with the order. Upon calling, the person answering the telephone explained that I should have ordered them on the side. I have never heard of such a thing. From now on, when I would like to order inauthentic, poorly executed chinese food, I will be calling Pi's

Amazing food, customer service is grand. The freshest food you could find in a buffet assembly line. Poor wait staff at times but the food and authentic feel brings me back time and time again!

Stopped in for lunch before a wedding this past weekend. Although I had planned to order off the menu, when I saw the buffet food being brought out (we were there when they opened), I changed my mind. The food was great! I especially liked the Yummi Shrimp and the Mongolian Beef. Not as huge a variety as some other buffets I've visited, but makes up for it in quality. The decor was a bit hokey but "fun". They had a full bar, but being early in the day I didn't take advantage. I would definitely go back here the next time I'm in the Midland area.

Omg i love this place so much... we have yet to get something that sucks. Like tonight we got crispy sesame chicken, yummy shrimp, and egg rolls and it was so good (like you are mad you didn't order it good ) :)

Absolutely excellent place to eat. Went in for dinner on a Monday night, just before 6PM, and the place was mostly empty. This made for an excellent intimate quiet setting for my lady and I to enjoy our meal. The wait service was very nice and attentive, drinks always full and quick with our several requests. I ordered the Singapore Noodle (spicy, $9.99) and my lady ordered the Chicken Fried Rice (not spicy, $8), and both were very filling and among the best orders of Chinese we've ever had. Yum Yum sauce is made to order and although different than we'd had before, was excellent. We will definitely be back, at least to try the buffet.

One of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever been to. Great service and food. We got there and the line looked long but they got us right in. You have to try the shrimp toast very good.

Given that I'm Chinese, I do tend to judge Chinese restaurants more critically than most. I saw a menu item I really wanted to try (Singapore Noodles), but it's hard to turn down a buffet when they literally just set out the food 3 minutes beforehand. The restaurant is not very well lit, making the space look a lot smaller and drab than it actually is. It's great for groups, there are many nooks and corners that are specifically made for larger groups (5 to 6). The variety, the quality, and the taste of the food at the buffet was actually better than what I had expected. I wonder how do the menu items compare to the buffet items. But to give this place its due credit, for being where it is, a small town 3 hours north of metro Detroit, it's pretty good. If I were to visit Midland, I'd gladly go back.

I've only been here for their lunch buffet, and I've been very happy with it with next to zero complaints. I actually can't even think of a thing I don't like about this place. It's really cheap, and a good selection of meats and dishes on their buffet. The servers have always been polite and attentive. Nothing spectacular about this place, but it's a place I would glady return to.

We went back for dinner recently and I am now an even bigger fan of China Palace! This time I got the spicy bean curd (deep fried instead of stir fried tofu) and the portion, at only $8.50, was larged enough for my dinner, plus lunch for two days. They were VERYgenerous with the tofu, and it was cooked very well. I especially liked that it was much smaller pieces of tofu than I normally get at a chinese restaurant. The spicy sour soup was less salty this time around, and has now been moved to first place for the best hot and sour soup I've had in a long time. Very friendly, and very prompt service. We will likely be regulars here.

My favorite Chinese Restaurant in Midland. We've been coming here for close to 20 years. It's crazy I know, but every time we come back into town we stop in no matter what. Favorite dishes are: Yummy Shrimp/Chicken, Empress Beef. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My son Brandon loves the Sesame Chicken. I'm starting him out young. Today we all did the Buffet and it was great as usual. The Hot and Sour soup is unmatched by any other Chinese place we've ever been to since.

This restaurant used to be my favorite in town, because they matched the price of all the other Chinese buffets but had better food. The service was meh, but it didn't matter a whole lot because you got your own food. Now, however, this restaurant is surprisingly my least favorite in town. The food has gone slightly downhill, and it's rare that they have yummi chicken or shrimp on the buffet, but stick to the cheaper foods from their menu. The service has gotten even worse, where before you would get no refills of your drink after your bill was presented (their subtle way of telling you to get out), now you're extremely unlikely to get a refill during the meal either. And to put the cherry on top of all of this, the cost has gone up 3 dollars per person and the drinks have gone up a dollar a person, making the entire meal significantly more expensive than any other buffet in town.

Lunch was reasonably priced, hot, & delicious! Szechuan chicken was very good. Sesame chicken a bit too sweet. Hot tea was too dark & had granules in it.

Best Chinese food in the tri-city area - hands down! I have my favorites, but like to try other things as well, and gotta say, I love everything on their menu, you can't go wrong there. The prices are good and the people are friendly.

very good egg rolls, they are almost two inches wide and stuffed with vegetables. Dinner entrees are much better executed than pi's, although the chef tends to put too much sugar on the food. Might want to ask for less sugar in your entree. I would still choose china palace over pi's for dinner. update: like their Korean noodle soup. it's on the chef's special section in the menu. Soft noodle with chicken, beef, and shrimp in a mildly spicy broth. Tasty!

Went to China Palace yesterday and was disappointed in the quality of the food. Coming from the East Coast where there are China Towns this restaurant is subpar. Our waitress noticed we weren't happy with our order and did nothing to make it up.

I didn't realize that when I moved out of Midland, I would never again have good Mongolian Beef. This is the only dish I ever get at this restaurant because it is so good and it never tastes as good anywhere else! So first, if you've have the mongolian beef on the buffet...it's not the same. You have to get it as your entree. I don't know why, that's just how it works. The lunch portion is huge and comes with fried rice rice and you can get hot and sour soup which I like because they don't put pork in it BUT they do put green peas in it. The dinner portion is even bigger but doesn't come with the soup. And I think it comes with white rice. I travel all the time and have tried the Mongolian Beef in a number of different Chinese restaurants in all different parts of the U.S. and I still can't find any that compares to the Mongolian Beef at China Palace. It's really sad how much I miss it.

They have good takeout or if you order off the menu. The buffet is old tasting, similar taste of leftovers. The portions are weird when you order at night it's expensive but you get enough food for a week. Lunch is the right amount for the right price.

For a buffet, this is some of the best Chinese food I have ever had. Since I work in Midland, I have been here for lunch probably upwards of 20 or 30 times. I order the takeout buffet, which, is amazing and reasonably priced at just $8. I stuff my take out box to the top, and always eat much more than I should when i go there. The Mongolian beef? Unbeatable. I have yet to have better Mongolian beef any place else. The service is also great. The waitresses are extremely nice and quick to get whatever you need. I've also ordered off the menu, and for the price, you get an enormous amount of food. Overall, great service, great food for the price, and just really nice people. If you like chinese food, this is seriously the place to go in Midland.

Such friendly people!! Very pleasant. Food is heaping. When i read the review saying they had a lot of leftovers, i had to go. Im a huuugeee eater. I shockingly had so much leftover, i could barely close my takeout box!! I highly recommend this place!

There's one thing that is always true of this place, you can leave stuffed or really stuffed. Their portion sizes are really big, though my male friend manages to always finish his lunch portion. I usually have enough for a second meal. This place is usually good, but I also tend to not order off the buffet so I can't comment there. Some of my absolute favorites are Yummy Chicken, which I think was added maybe a year and half ago to their menu, Chicken and Broccoli, Szechuan Chicken, Curry Chicken. From the dinner menu, which I wish a few things on here were also served at lunch, my go to is always the Chicken Mushu. I cannot get enough of that. And the portions for dinner are large because its meant to be served family style. My boyfriend is unimaginative and only ever eats the orange chicken, which he says is "ok".

This is my favorite Chinese place on the planet! I go here at least once when I am in the area. Their crab rangoons and egg rolls are the best. I typically get the lunch buffet and it is always very fresh.

Good food and usually good, friendly service -- I'm a big fan of the almond chicken. The place needs updating, though. Decor is quite worn and outdated. The real bargain here is their lunch menu.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
