As a previous reviewed stated "Americanized Thai is better than no Thai at all." Just tried Basil Thai Bistro for the first time for lunch. Very attentive and friendly wait staff. Food was quite good and served very quickly. My wife enjoyed a well balanced and flavorful red curry while I tried the pad saint leung. Really good. Basil Thai Bistro looks to be a great addition to Midland. Looking forward to another visit soon.

The best thing about Basil Thai is I how fresh the veggies are. As well, it is not greasy like many restaurants. The food is authentic, being owned and operated by a Thai owner, with Thai chefs. This is the real deal. Also, I completely love the Thai tea and the Bubble teas! Great alternative to a smoothie!

I wish it was bigger and I wish they served alcohol, but it still puts the other Asian restaurants in Midland to shame. I've had several meals at Basil now and everything is super fresh and delicious.

I feel like my opinions of Basil Thai are all relative considering it is the only thai option that I know of in Midland. With that being said, I've definitely had better thai. I've ordered take from there twice and they tend to be a bit stingy on the sauce. Also, the inside stems of some of my broccoli were brown/black - does not seem very fresh to me? The place is doable considering the lack of options in the area, but I do not think this restaurant would survive if it was in a different location like Chicago or New York. Try it out once and see what you think. If you are not impressed the first time, you likely will not be in a repeat attempt.

Stopped in for a quick early dinner with the family. They close down after lunch service and reopen at 4:30 so keep that in mind if you are off schedule a bit. For apps we did the chicken satay and the Thai crab wontons. Satay is very flavorful with a nice sweet/hot peanut dipping sauce. The star of the show for me was the little side of quick pickled cucumbers and peppers. I could easily manage a plate of those with some shaved beef. The wontons are also excellent. The cream cheese inside is sweet, but not overly so. The dipping sauce is also sweet but is combined with a nice vinegar hit as well. My entree was mango stir fry. I ordered it with ground chicken and at medium hot. Since it is "Thai hot" medium is usually right where I like it. The ground chicken, while not on the menu as a protein choice for this dish ended up being a nice textural contrast to the sliced mango, peppers, onions, and basil. The was the most recent of several really good meals at Basil. Serving sizes are very generous so you will likely end up with takeout boxes. You could also very easily order a few dishes to share around family style here so every one gets to try a few different entrees.

Excellent restaurant. The quality of the food is rather outstanding for the area, and the portions are criminally huge. Highly recommend it, but my only qualms are that they should have a bigger dining area and expand to the Saginaw area! Please!

some of the best thai food ive ever had hands down. The wings, the basil, everything is just phenomenal.

This is one of my favorite lunchtime stops. The curry fried rice with chicken is always enough for two meals and its filling and quick. It's a cute little spot in midland and always busy at lunch so arrive early!

Food was quite tasty and when they warn you that 'medium' is actually quite hot, take their word for it! It's just so-so, decent for Midland, MI, but probably wouldn't be my first choice if there was any other thai place around.

First time I went there it was a 1 star experience. I got the pad see ew. It was trash. They used pasta noodles (or maybe the thai noodles you get at meijer)s instead of broad rice noodles, the sauce was waaaay too sweet, the chicken was not cut properly. The second time I went there it was more like 3 stars. I got a curry this time. Much better, maybe even worth trying again. The first time was soon after the place opened, maybe they were still learning how to cook Thai? Prices are high (maybe $11 to 15 for an entre), esp given it is mid-michigan.

Surprisingly good Thai food in Midland and excellent customer service. The chicken satay, fresh rolls and yellow curry were all excellent. Be careful ordering the hot level food as it is very spicy! No alcoholic beverages are on the menu but they have bubble teas. I'd return here.

First time getting take out from here - delicious. I got the mussaman curry and it was really good, not the best I have ever had, but it was very good. The golden triangles (wontons) were delicious! While I did not dine in, the restaurant looks very nice. There is outdoor seating as well! I definitely plan on going back and will be sitting outside. Beautiful place, friendly staff and delicious food!

This is for the owner who says he has tried to reach me via my reviews. I have no way on trip advisor of responding to you, so I cannot. I am not giving you different ratings. I am giving you a 1 and that is it. Nothing more. I don't know why you are cutting and pasting my reviews. They are the same. Your food is good-period. I never said it wasn't. It is your service and prices that are out of control. Your employees charged me 11.95 for a waterfall salad. You said that that is your dinner price. Well I was there at 1:30 and that is what I was charged. They must have overcharged me. And yes, your service was awful- no disputing that. As an owner, you should stop arguing with the customer (me) and perhaps offer an apology for bad service. You don't do that- instead you argue. The waitress was not good and she embarrassed and offended me. Instead of attacking me, you should be apologizing. And no, I was not going to cause a scene in your tiny restaurant by asking to see the manager. I am not stupid.

I'm new to Thai food, but I have to say, I love this place. The veggies are so fresh and abundant. Nothing is greasy or heavy. Portions are huge. The Kaow Pad Sawan (Heavenly Fried Rice) was -- heavenly. The packaging is great for carry-out.

It is very good Thai food. If you are looking for authentic Thai in Midland, this is the place. I personally love the noodle dishes.

A+ for effort. In an area that is sorely lacking on foods from other ethnic lands, I am glad this restaurant is trying. First the good: the atmosphere is very pleasing. The green walls are pleasing to the eye. The food was very elegantly plates except the plastic basket for the Phò. The bad: the spring rolls were under cooked. I'm not sure if the chicken was cooked all the way through. My Chicken Pad Thai was very bland. Just because I didn't want it spicy does not mean do not add flavor. Also if you are going to have Vietnamese food on your menu make sure it is made right. The noodles were wrong and Phò does not have mint. You should have items on your menu that are not run of the mill Thai food. Maybe some Papaya Salad. Couldn't finish my food. I will try again just to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

This was one of a couple places recommended to us during our stay in town. We were there early in the evening and sat outside. The service was good and the menu fairly extensive. In ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and it was quite good. Large portions for everyone at my table regardless of what they ordered. Be wary though, the spice runs hot here. Our waiter told us that was the case so it wasn't a shock but just be aware if they don't mention it. Overall I would definitely recommend Basil Thai. 4.2 stars

The food tastes good. However, "dinner" pricing is out of line. Supposedly larger portions than lunch. The green curry with chicken had almost no chicken in it. Fine if you want green and red peppers in sauce. Try lunch or ask to make sure to get a fair serving of protein.

This place is the only Thai Restaurant that I know of in Midland. Their Pad Thai is a MUST-NOT-HAVE as it is not traditional PadThai and the noodles looked pink and did not taste so good. However, the other food that I have tried there is pretty delicious. I recommend any of the curries. For a noodle dish, I recommend the Pad See Ew. The place is clean. The food is fresh. The space inside the restaurant is somewhat small. The service could be better. What I especially like about this restaurant is that, like other fine establishments, you are asked how spicy you would like a dish, using a numerical score from 1-5 or 1-10. If you ask for the highest level of spice, it is REALLY SPICY. Not sure who that is catered for because I do love my spice, but even I cannot handle it. In any case, I like the option of being able to choose my spice level.

I'm a bit indifferent to this place. I've tried it a few times. The Pho was not that great. The beef seemed like it was really cheap quality. Greyish almost, very odd texture. The Pad Thai is not your typical Pad Thai; was made with a sweet and sour sauce. I wouldn't order it again. I've also eaten the the Pad Ka Pao with chicken; pretty good but a bit sweet. Lunch prices seem to be a bit pricey for the quality. I do love their Thai Iced Tea. This place seems to be pretty popular though. It's small, there isn't much seating, and no place to wait for a table. Last time, the hostess had to get my cell number to call me when a table was ready. What do you do for 5-10 minutes in Midland while waiting for a table = go back to your car (in 0 degree weather) or walk to Verizon. Either options are inconvenient.

We went for dinner here last night with another couple and their 2 young boys, it was the first visit for all of us. The food: excellent. service: excellent. The chef even made a rhino and brontosaurus out of carrot for the boys! Very friendly staff. I'm only giving 4 stars because the curries are served in very full bowl and tend to spill when the server brings them to you. Also, the place is very small, it is not a place to take a party of more than 6 people. The portions are huge! Food is fresh and delicious.

I really enjoyed the house soup that came out before my food. I ordered Pad Prew Wan with deluxe seafood (scallops, mussels, and shrimp). I got two shrimp, two mussels , and a few pieces of scallop. It was all delicious, I just would have liked a little more seafood considering I paid $4 extra. Not enough to drop the rating a star! I loved it all! My buddy got green tea and loved it as well. Definitely recommend it.

Very generous portion sizes! After a little mix up with my bf and I ordering the same dish, but different spice levels, I hesitated to say anything, bc I didn't want to be a nuisance. I'm glad I did, bc Matthew and Keisha were super accommodating! We will be back.

I'm not a Thai expert so take this review with a grain of salt . . . or a dash of curry if you'd like. We had two different entrees (a pork stir fry and a noodle-based chicken dish) and both were very good: distinctive flavors and VERY FRESH vegetables. I ordered the "mild" and it turned out to be too mild. So the waitress graciously grabbed some more 'heat' from the kitchen to dial it up a notch. The decor is a little limited - it's a small space so don't expect "fine dining". The wait Staff more than made up for the ambience by being prompt and attentive. Midland MI is the chain-restaurant capital of the world (don't you just love hyperbole that can't be disproven?) and BTB is a breath of fresh air. I will definitely go back.

We visited here today for the first time, for a quick lunch. The restaurant is just a tiny place in a newer shopping center located on the corner of Wackerly and Jefferson, near enough to the local big-box-store row and the Midland Mall to provide a nice alternative to the usual franchise food places in town. The ambiance is clean and modern, and there's also a patio for outdoor dining in the summer months. Our meal was good; we shared a trio of appetizers -- chicken satay, crab wontons and fresh rolls -- and I had a cup of tom-yum soup as well. The satay was one of the best I've had so far; it was very tender, not overcooked, and was pleasantly spiced, although perhaps a bit on the mild side for some. The peanut-coconut dipping sauce was also very good. The wontons were about average for an Asian restaurant; maybe a bit more "crab" than average in the crab cheese filling. The fresh rolls were filled to bursting with lots of herbal flavor courtesy of cilantro and mint, with nice, fresh shrimp. The tom yum soup was fine; the broth was quite mild but had a quiet after-zip that was refreshing; the vegetables were also very fresh and good, but cut a bit too large for soup -- very awkward playing bobbing-for-cherry-tomatoes in a small bowl of soup. (A note that diners can choose their proteins, including vegetarian options, for most dishes.) I was most impressed by the freshness of the ingredients, which made the meal itself light and refreshing. Our waiter was also helpful and polite. The biggest negative, other than the texture of the soup vegetables, was a general blandness across the board in what we ordered; I think the kitchen could turn up the spice just a notch -- *just* a notch -- for more flavor, and still keep spice-shy diners happy. The amount of garnish on the plates was also a bit much of a muchness...sometimes less is more. But all in all we were very satisfied with our meal, thought it provided good value for the cost, and are looking forward to trying dinner here sometime.

My husband, daughter and I got dinner here. She is allergic to shrimp and I am allergic to avocado. They seemed willing to work around that though our food would take longer so we made other choices. I was not impressed w the summer rolls at all, and the "dipping sauce" tasted like water?? Confused. Hubby and I ordered Pad Kee Mao which was good. Daughter ordered pad Thai. It came out pepto bismol pink. I inquired and he said it was pink from the sauce they put in? I'm not sure what the heck was in their sauce but it looked awful and didn't taste decent either. Skip the pad Thai and get the Kee Mao and you'll be fine I did think it was outrageously priced for the quality of food though the quantities were decent. Service was "meh".

Service was friendly and quick and all four of us really enjoyed our meals. Fresh, quality ingredients and large portions. Outdoor seating was pleasant. I visit Midland once a year and have wanted an ethnic restaurant like this...I will likely return tomr before leaving town.

I recently moved to Midland from Washington D.C. One of my favorite aspects of the city was the wide variety of ethnic dining options. While the rest of this Midland still consists primarily of mediocre Chinese restaurants and American chain concepts, Basil Thai Bistro has been a breath of fresh air. I've tried a few dishes. My favorite so far has been the Pad Ka Pao stir fry with beef, ordered extra spicy. It has that fresh basil+spicy+onion combo that makes for a perfect Thai stir fry. I've tried this dish at about ten different restaurants, and the version at Basil Thai is the best I've had. The Pad Ma Muang (mango stir fry) was also very good. I was not a big fan of the Pad Gra Tiem (garlic stir fry) since it has a very subtle flavor -- I prefer bolder dishes. However, it was recommended to me by two different people, so it obviously appeals to some people. It would be a good low-risk dish for people who don't typically like Thai food. If it's your first time, get a tapioca drink -- especially if, like most Mid-Michiganders, you've never tasted one. Imagine a tropical fruit smoothie mixed with chunks of extra chewy gummy bears. Awesome. The fried banana dessert is extremely good, but it's pretty hard to mess up a dish that combines fried food with ice cream. Service was attentive and the food arrived very quickly. It's obvious that the food is fresh. Overall, though I've been to many Thai restaurants, this may be the best one I've found in this price range. The only ones that are better have had prices about double that of Basil Thai. For what it is - an affordable ethnic restaurant - this is as good as you'll find in Mid-Michigan.

Had the Gang Phet Dang with Beef - excellent!!! I got the medium heat which was very hot so be careful! :-p

The Pad See Ew was flavorless and oily. "Fresh" rolls seemed not so fresh and 1 had only a tiny piece of shrimp. Papaya salad lacked any spice to it. Lastly, to my amazement, the green curry appeared to be an orange tinge due to the oil slick on top. Of all the thai food I've had around the world, I have *never* seen this. Completely unappealing. This is the worst "Thai" food I have ever had.

I was skeptical going to try a Thai place in midland. I was pleasantly surprised by getting a very good meal. It was not authentic, but was still very good. Great staff and decent menu. I got parang curry-medium spice. It was not as spicy as I would have expected but still good. Next time I will get hot. The bubble tea is tasty. Worth trying. It's a smoothie with tapioca chunks that was refreshing. Overall a good experience and will go again.

While the meal was not what I expected for Thai food, it was tasty. We had the chicken Panang curry. Not at all what a Thai restaurant would serve as Panang curry, it was tasty: very watery sauce, couldn't taste the coconut milk, but huge portion albeit mostly vegetable, and very expensive. (Instead of $8.95, more than 12) We had chicken stay: 4 sticks, tasty but bland peanut sauce and expensive We had a chicken with green bean dish which was very good, and a noodle dish that was called pad see ew but... wasn't. (The kids enjoyed it nevertheless) My DD wanted the pearl milk tea but I couldn't bring myself to order one at their high price. Folks were sitting at tables outside which looked very pleasant. The waitstaff was very helpful and pleasant. I think you would enjoy the food as long as you don't think of it as Thai food; just enjoy the flavors of whatever is served.
