I can't believe I've lived in Marquette for 3 years and never been here! I was on a walk one morning and decided to stop on in here to warm my fingers and toes. It was a warm, comforting feel right away. I was greeted immediately but needed some time to look at the menu; a classic handwritten chalk style menu gives it a more personal feeling. I decided on an apple crumble muffin. The top was perfectly crispy with a rich buttery flavor in each bite. Once the towering muffin top was history, the moist inside was a great way to finish off my experience. The free wifi was nice to have. But mostly I just enjoyed sitting there for a while enjoying the company of everyone around me. The employees were very kind and helpful. I would definitely return to Babycakes for breakfast anytime.

Perfect spot to pick up a quick coffee and a muffin or stay for awhile and enjoy it there in a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Love to meet with friends here, and enjoy their delicious coffee and a GF muffin for breakfast!

who knew marquette was so crunchy!? well, not me, that's for sure. wheat free, gluten free muffins everyday of the week and vegan muffins monday, wednesday and friday! its not that such things really interest me, but i appreciate being given the option, especially without having to compromise flavor. the hot chocolate was deliciously creamy and the muffins were awesome. we tried the apple crunch and the blueberry. some local artist had his work on display around the cafe, some of which was really cool. it was the weekend of the up200, the place was pretty busy, and they seemed fully staffed and prepared; they even had a small table with hot cocoa and coffee set up outside the store. all around, a lovely place to grab some caffeine and a snack.

While I am a little biased since I grew up knowing the Owners. I have to admit that I have foung it hard to find muffins (especially Chocolate Chip) that are this good. I stop by for breakfast every time I'm home in Marquette!

While camping in the UP over the summer, I came into Marquette with my friends for a little "urban" luxury. We stopped in Babycakes for a snack and some caffeine, and it was the perfect respite. We were delighted with everything we purchased. The food was well prepared and delicious; the coffee was fresh and perfectly brewed. The girl behind the counter was patient and helpful as my friends and I tried to decide which of their yummy looking muffins to try. The baked goods here are, as noted, very good, but so is the rest of their food. I had a bowl of veggie soup that actually hit that rare and delicate balance of healthy and tasty. It wasn't bland and mushy like some veggie soups; it was hearty and flavorful. Babycakes also has a lovely neighborhood coffee shop feel to it. The local art and overall aesthetic manage to make the place look cute without seeming contrived. Overall I was very impressed. If I lived in the area, I have a feeling I'd wind up here all the time.

The muffins are AMAZING! I don't know anything about gluten free, i just know they are tasty! I was only in Michigan for 6 days and i went here twice. We also left some muffins sitting on our counter and my dog found and ate them--he never does that so i think they must have just been that good. The coffee was also awesome. I will upload a picture! I had the chocolate chip muffin and an almond poppy one, my friends had blueberry and pineapple. My dog had all kinds.

Great lattes, good atmosphere. We tried the blueberry, the chocolate chip, and the apple crunch. Did I mention the lattes? Delicious. The staff that checked us out, however, was unfriendly bordering on rude. Otherwise I'd have given 5 stars.

Very decent bakery overall. We stopped in after being highly recommended by locals and frequent visitors, our first visit was later on a Saturday, about 1pm, I wanted to get a birthday treat for myself, we weren't greeted the friendliest by the gentleman working and were almost treated as we annoyed him asking questions, maybe he was having a bad afternoon (everyone is entitled) however not the best first impression. I ended up getting a hunk of their chocolate cake it was ok. I also got a oatmeal square that was topped with peanut butter and ganache, that was very good. We decided to give it another try before leaving Marquette after our friends again raved about how awesome it was, and I'm glad we did, totally different vibe, it was early in the morning on a Monday am, the girl behind the counter greeted us upon walking in with a smile and was very informative and sweet! We got a blueberry muffin that was very tasty, the apple crisp muffin had good flavor but wAs overcooked and made it dry, their cinnamon roll was tasty too but had almost no icing so again the edges were a little dry. Overall it as decent, we may give them another go next time were in town, it's definitely nothing to write home about but may be the best around if you are a local.

Ahhhhh...Marquette. Just being in Marquette makes my blood pressure drop. But add a delish gluten-free muffin and a nice cuppa and I'm in heaven. Warm, friendly staff that clearly know their product and a place with a vibe that says, "Stay! Relax!" and I'm there. You can grab a quick lunch also on your way out.

Thank you for the VEGAN muffins! To all it may concern Babycakes now serves vegan Muffins M,W,F and they are delicious! I've grown up on babycakes in MQT, and ate them basically until i moved and became vegan. So I hadn't had any in probably 5 years until they started offering these. My all time fave has been Chocolate chip (which I still love) but now I would recommend trying the Maple Chip Pecan when they have it, it is the all time greatest. Still filled with choco chips the pecan adds a hint of crunch and the maple enhances the sweetness- a MUST TRY! Waiting for the day vegan is served round the clock but super happy to have the options we do now. We are getting muffins now more than ever! I don't know if it is in their business plans ever, but I would love to see an expansion, it's a difficult place to sit and eat at certain times of the day.

I don't know what I ate. But I liked it. This review might not be helpful but their customer service is. So trust me and just try it.

Great local bakery and coffee shop! They first opened in the 80s, and my family would get their muffins once a week for breakfast. Best in the area. Since then, I've had to adopt a gluten-free diet, and Babycakes can accommodate. There are usually two gf options available, and they're always delicious.

I've always enjoyed a delicious Babycake muffin or scone, but I just don't get into their neighborhood very often, so I get my fix from the coffee shop at my place of employment. I love the Apple Crunch, or the Mixed Berry. Deliciously moist and so fruity and tasty. Never dissapointed. Last Friday I was having some serious chocolate cravings, and I found myself at the coffee shop eyeing up the Babycakes treats and spied the Chocolate Chip muffin. The top of the muffin was so covered in little mini-chips I thought to myself "How can this go wrong??" Sadly, the muffin was dry. So dry that it was unenjoyable and I was certain I had gotten a Day Old muffin. So I called to see if, perhaps, they had not yet delivered their fresh muffins for the day. The fresh muffins had already been delivered, so I expressed my dissapointment at having gotten a dry muffin and was happy to leave it at that. A few minutes later I was called back by the owner who apologized up and down for the dry muffin, even acknowledging that after checking the ones in the store she could see how they were on the dry side. She insisted on making it up to me, although I told her that was not necessary. She agreed to have delivered to me a couple of replacement muffins and so this morning after arriving to work, I had delivered to me SIX deliciously fresh and NOT DRY chocolate chip muffins. Yum Yum Yum!! Thank you BabyCakes! Just as important as having a great product is having even greater customer service to back up your product. I am certainly impressed by my delcious replacement muffins, but I am more so impressed with the fact that I was called back (I didn't even leave a number -- they got it from the caller ID on their phone) and that it was insisted that they make up for my ONE less than favorable experience. It's obviously not just the muffins that have kept them in business since 1988!

I've been having a love affair with Babycakes soups, muffins, and everything....for almost two decades. Great place!! Now if they could remove ALL of the calories my ass would appreciate it. :)

Amazing muffins! Especially their wheat free gluten free vegan muffins!!! The blueberry is the best! Free wifi and such a cute place to sit and drink tea or coffee.

Cute little cafe! Great ambiance. Chill place to hang out with friends, read a book, study, or just stop in while you're walking through town. Perfect location. The coffee is good, but the lattes need an extra shot of espresso to compare to other coffee shops. Wish they had more seating, but their size is definitely part of the charm.

Lots of personality and very patient with the kids; we went for dessert and the chocolate/peanut butter oatmeal bars were phenomenal

I had a fair-trade Sumatra coffee here today, and my wife ordered a delicious lentil & potato soup along with a tasty brownie. I'm not usually a fan of brownies, but it was fantastic. After trying her brownie, I went in and got a similar looking desert that had a layer of raspberries on top, and it too was great. The service was excellent, and it was nice to eat out on their street-side tables. Update: after coming here a few times, I'm lowering my rating significantly. Today and yesterday when I stopped in, the deserts tasted old and soggy. The sweet potato soup was also pretty terrible, looking like orange slop and tasting sweet and bland, like bad vegetarian food. I also noticed today that the coffee grinder is really dirty, which means that you're getting a little rancid coffee oil in every drink. Real baristas are trained to sweep the grinder clean after ever use, so that no old coffee grinds find their way into a shot. Espresso makes up the base of all of their coffee drinks, so this is a very weak link. Also, their expensive sandwiches are pre-made and stored in plastic wrap in the fridge. No thank you! For mind blowing coffee in Marquette, go to Dead River Coffee. You can stop in to the bakery next door to it for desert, and the overall experience will be much better than the overpriced and lackluster Babycakes.

Great bakery; The roasted tomato/artichoke soup was judged a bit salty today; fresh salads and sandwiches of the day; interesting art (pottery); and the service outstanding! A definite recommend.

I can't believe i forgot to review this place earlier! I stopped in here several times during my time In marquette. Right on the main street, it is convienient and spacious and had a terrific selection of pastries and soups and sandwiches. I would frequent this place if I lived here for sure. very comfortable atmosphere.

The chocolate chip muffin is heavenly, it is packed full of mini chocolate chips, has a great muffin top and is super moist to top it off. They have mini muffins if you wanted to try more than 1 flavor; almond poppy seed and apple cinnamon are also quite good but nothing compares to the chocolate chip. The chocolate chip is a favorite for most so get there early or you may be out of luck.
