The Haywire Restaurant

Reviews:
I have been going up to the Munising area for 20 years, and it's always been a challenge to find really good restaurants. Haywire is my new favorite, as it is the best food I've ever had in the area. On a recent trip, I ordered the cod and fries. The fish was perfectly cooked and not overbreaded. The fries were deliciously thin and on the crispy side. We were there in the middle of the afternoon, so it was very quiet. Another table came in and ordered desserts, which looked fantastic (and huge!). The view out the back windows had yellow finches and hummingbirds frequenting the feeders. This is a place worth going out of your way for. I will be back!
Came here for our 38th anniversary. Not fancy until you try the food. This is bottom line the best restaurant in all the UP. You have to try the specials and the home made deserts. Tip. Try the maple butter on the rolls!
This restaurant was AMAZING! By far the best place to eat in Munising. Staff made you feel welcome, food was sensational and the experience was memorable. My only complaint is this place is too far from my home, I can't wait to come back on my next vacation!

Ordered the meat lovers pizza with extra cheese. Fabulous handcrafted pizza. Great crust fresh toppings. Go there
Probably the best pizza in town. It's not Chicago, it's not New York it's pizza and it does the job. Shop front was a bit unsightly but you have to think about the location before judging the interior. Cheap prices and decent quality. Not sure if she was the shop owner but the short blonde woman was a bit of an ice queen other than that it's highly recommended!
If u want pizza this is the "only" place to have pizza in MSTQ

Followed the suggestions on Yelp and was amazed. This place pops out of nowhere and you don't want to leave. Great variety, excellent quality and friendly service. Also a few gift/antique shops in the area. Perfect lunch spot after the boardwalk and lighthouse.
I had an excellent experience at upper crust deli . Excellent food and very friendly service. I would recommend this to anyone passing through the manistique area .
Great sandwich choices and all 3 that we got were excellent (tuna salad, tally boy, and kid's ham). Yummy bread. Appreciated the good service by friendly staff and the bright interior. Seeing things in UP takes lots of driving -- it was such a nice stop to recharge ourselves!

Best onion rings I've ever had. And I have had a few. We stopped here because my grandpas name was Clyde, and we were happily surprised by the super tasty grease bomb drive in food. Just what we needed on a long trip.
Two words: cheese curds. Everytime we're back in town we stop and get a couple orders of them because they are the best you'll find. The fries (with gravy, of course), breaded mushrooms, and mushroom swiss burger are also top notch. And don't forget to add a milkshake! This place has been around forever, and I hope it stays that way because I can't imagine Manistique without it!
Apparently this is a bit of a chain in the UP of Michigan, but glad I stopped to check it out. The outside looks like a hole in the wall, the inside looks like your classic diner, with open skillets for cooking. They had a very nice menu for a diner all at great prices. You can either drive up and a waitress will come to you and take your order, you can sit outside, or there are about 7 seats at the counter on the inside. We shared the fried cheese curds, absolutely amazing. My wife ordered the buffalo burger with jalapeno's incredible, the meat was so tender and juicy with much less grease than your typical beef patty. My mom and I shared the walleye sticks, which were great as well. We also tried their vanilla malt which was very good. Would definitely stop back here if I am every back in the UP.

Place was clean staff friendly, we stopped for breakfast two omelets and hash browns ordered. The omelets were like eggs with insides just fell out the cheese didn't even keep it together kinda like eggs with topping and just folded over. Second the food was so salty we could only eat part of the meal. When mentioned to the waitress she replied yeah they're having a problem with the saltiness, but no deduction of any kind offered on the meal
I know what you are thinking - 5 stars for a Big Boy...really? Short answer is: yes for the Manistique Big Boy. Food is typical Big Boy food. Nothing special, but consistent and freshly prepared. The difference is the staff, service, and the store itself. Everyone was friendly and attentive. The store was clean and very nicely decorated for the holidays. It was a perfect stop on a long Sunday night drive back to Minneapolis.
The best Big Boy you can find. The waitstaff is friendly and the food is always good. They also offer more for the breakfast buffet than any other Big Boy that I've been to, as eggs from the kitchen and your choice of toast are included in the price. If you aren't in the mood for the buffet, I recommend the make-your-own omelet with extra crispy hash brown. For lunch the tuna melt is my go-to choice. The salad bar is always fresh and has a variety of topping options as well as fried chicken, different kinds of chopped fruit, and soup regularly.

Great staff. Veggie omelet and oatmeal was excellent. Just the right amount of U.P. charm, would definitely return.
This roadside cafe caught my eye as I was heading west through the UP. Happy that I made the stop. Ordered the basic breakfast. Very friendly and efficient staff. Meal was prepared exactly to order. Coffee cup was continually filled with good steaming hot Java. Good experience all around
We've been here twice. Oct of 2013 and Oct of 2014. The food is good. Home style cooking and things have been done to our liking. This time I took a little closer note of the details. The menu says that you have to be 60 yrs or over to qualify for a senior discount. Where we are from that number is typically 55. Sometimes 50. I'm a ways from that, but my folks would be paying attention. After reading that,I took inventory and noticed everyone looked of retirement age. I get it. I wouldn't even make a deal of this, but I got two eggs, hash browns and toast and added a cup of sausage gravy. My wife got a cup of chili. We both got a soft drink and the meal with tip ran over $30! Sad to say that I can eat in a tourist town like Mackinaw city with more food for that price.....could use that senior discount ; ) I sound like I'm beating them up, but realize the food did not disappoint. I just found it expensive for a little diner. Service was good too. I had to remind myself to tip well, because the cost of the food has nothing to do with the service. Would I go back? Sure, if the money's not tight.

This is the place to go in Manistique. Service was great and Food was GREAT! The salad bar is awesome. The dressings are House made and just plain great, three kinds of French Yum. Soup is also House made and very good. I had a steak that was very good and my friends had the Whitefish and stated it was Superior. The only bad was they only give you 1 free refill on pop.
We were hesitant to try it after reading the review from May of this year, but decided to brave it anyway. Maybe the offseason (we were here in early October) is the time to go, but our visit was great. The broiled walleye (I added Cajun seasoning) was cooked perfectly, fresh, and tasted great. My wife loved her prime rib (I took her word for it, I have a red meat allergy). The salad bar is nothing special (it's a small-town salad bar, what do you expect?), but they have tomatoes, dilled cucumbers, eggs, croutons, etc., and an ok selection of dressings. I tried some of the chicken soup, again, nothing special, but didn't taste canned. They only have one beer on tap (bud light), but a decent selection of cans and bottles, including some of the Keweenaw Brewery beers. They took my credit card and have a sign in the window that says "we take credit cards." Our waitress was personable and attentive. I can't say anything about the owner as we didn't meet or hear from them. In all, if you are expecting a small town restaurant with great fish and steak, I would highly recommend it. If you want a place with top notch wine service, caviar and hot towels delivered to the table between courses, then you might want to look elsewhere.
It's closed with a for sale sign out front, so, in order to get this review posted, let me point out you shouldn't try to go there

Great place awesome burgers and all around good food!!!! Prices great and the waiting staff is good!!! Beer selection is about whatever you can ask for in a bottle with by far the coldest beer in town!!! A must stop place!!!!
Best sandwiches in town... and not that pricey. Try the Marley Burger and the onion rings.
We stopped in on the same night a local adult basketball league had won a tournament, so they had the run of the place. Decent imported beer selection and a variety of food items available. I love hot wings, and the ones at Marley's were the hottest I'd ever had. We walked down to Buckshot Bar to get away from the rowdy crowd, and had a much better time there.
