Went for dinner around 7:30. The Key Largo Chicken is very good - bacon and melted cheese is a nice twist on traditional chicken fettuccine alfredo. The restaurant was relatively slow for that time on a Saturday night. Our server was good, but could have been better. She seemed distracted - but we all have our off days.

Revisited PM Steamers on a recent trip. The service was good, but food was quite slow to come out. I ordered the prime rib this time. it was delicious. Menu still has lots stuff that are obviously trucked or flown in from halfway around the world. I really wish this part of Michigan would embrace the locavore movement.Otherwise, PM Steamers is a fine choice for Ludington.

By the end of the meal, our entire party was referring to bowel movements as P M Steamers. Food was great!

Worst, waste, wonder why we stayed to eat. They shuffled us off to the corner even though they had other tables available. However they were reserved apparently for people coming two hours later because they were still empty when we left. Not to sound like that is the crux of my complaint. Wife order a side salad for dinner, they brought it at least 5 minutes after all the other food had been served. Side salad? Yes, that is what she ordered. I also ordered a appetizer for dinner because the menu was that underwhelming. To top it off, well we picked up a pizza to go from another restaurant.

Atmosphere: There's not much not to like in this restaurant -- pleasing/sophisticated decor with a nautical bent, large windows looking out onto the big lake and patio seating if you so choose. Whenever the SS Badger, the local car ferry that goes between Ludington and Manitowac, WI, steams into port the bartender rings a bell; fun. Food: We started out with the restaurant charcuterie plate, which featured a house-made andouille sausage, braised pork belly, Romano Pecorino cheese bits, olives, a pepperoncini pepper, a few leaves of mixed greens and a dribble of balsamic vinegar. We found the food pairings and general composition odd, and while IMHO pork belly always tastes good, we found this one lacking in flavor; I don't know what it was braised with, but it just seemed as if it had been fried without seasoning. The andouille sausage was good. We enjoyed our entrees a lot. I had planked rainbow trout stuffed with wild rice, pecans and dried cherries; the dish lacked salt, but other than that it was great -- the trout, which is sourced from a local farm, was mild and delicious, and the stuffing was good too. The fish came with steamed spinach and baby potatoes; the dill-sprinkled potatoes could have done with more herbs and, again, salt (and I'm not someone who usually uses the salt shaker), but they were okay. My partner had the house chicken fettucini dish, featuring bacon and a white wine sauce, and enjoyed that a lot; unlike my entree, it was adequately seasoned. We also muchly enjoyed our peach sangria -- unlike many other sangrias, it actually was light and refreshing on a hot day, and it perfectly captured the essence of a fresh peach; no artificial perfumy flavor. (The recipe involved white wine, vanilla vodka and I think a dash of peach schnapps, and real peaches.) Service: I'll begin by noting that we usually get on very well with waitstaff; my partner is a veteran of food service management and catering, knows what goes on at the front and back of the house alike, and has an easy/empathetic way with servers; we usually all go home on good terms with one another, and we tip well for good service. Alas, this was not going to be one of those happy occasions. Perhaps because we had the misfortune of sitting next to a table filled with what looked like fraternity boys, our young waitress had a difficult time focusing on our table; after delivering our starter without any tableware or napkins, and being asked to rectify that, she drifted over to the boys' table, then got into a conversation with yet another table, and 20 minutes and another request by us for tableware later we were still sitting there with our starter, debating whether to attack the pork belly caveman style with our hands...finally another waitress came to our rescue. In the meantime our own waitress had also forgotten to refill our waters...yet somehow managed to get the males' table quickly from starter to entree. She also engaged in another friendly chat with the table next to us, her back totally turned toward us, and then she once again scampered away before we could flag her down. We finally asked to speak with the manager, and expressed our extreme displeasure. The only thing that saved this individual from our five-cent Tip of Doom was the helpful and apologetic busboy; we didn't want to punish him for the sins of the server. But she helped spoil what was to have been a relaxing, fun vacation evening.

The ambiance is excellent. Service well attended to and friendly. Food and liquor perfect with reasonable prices. We will return. I noted before we came the negative ratings (few indeed), however, in all our travels we have never found the 100% perfect place; close, but not 100%. If one is willing to pay, say, $45-50 a dish, well then one can get snooty and tata, but this is not a snooty place attended to by Serge, no sommelier or Table Captains and dare I say this is not Haute de cuisine. What we have is an upscale family restaurant that gives one a break from the kids and allows folks to renew in a pleasant nautical ambiance. I am not too impressed by egalitarian waiters or waitresses, but a nice smiling and friendly face who appropriately attends to one's needs does just nice, and PM Steamers provides that. As for a French Executive Chef attended to by countless Sous Chefs and Pantry Girls; nonsense, and its not needed. However, for $125.00 a plate it might be done, but don't hold out. The food is well prepared and the quality befits the prices paid; period. Ludington and Pentwater can use a few more places such as this.

So to start the service was okay. We weren't in a rush but having to ask for refills on water/any other drink isn't good service. I ordered the walleye which I enjoyed. My wife ordered the crab stuffed tilapia which when she got it, there was no crab stuffed in the fish. The fish was cut down the center with nothing inside. When I asked the waitress she said they put it on top because it comes out the sides when they cook it. Well there was nothing on top either. So I highly recommend not getting that. My parents got the lake perch. The breading I'm told was not very appetizing, the fish cuts were tiny, and were super greasy. And we were also told we when we ordered that we got bread with dinner but had to ask for it after the meal was over. So I give it one star because I enjoyed my fish but everything else about the meal was just bad.

Yum! Loved the whole experience! The menu provided enough options to keep everyone happy. Great seafood! Flavorful salads! Delicious steaks! Wonderful desserts! What more could you ask for? I'll tell you...a great atmosphere. Friendly wait staff. Beautiful meal presentation. Reasonable prices. If you are in the area this is the place to go. Let me recommend the cold cucumber soup and Michigan salad. No one in our party was disappointed.

I had dinner at Steamers while in Ludington on my boat last week, I thought it was pretty good and reasonably priced. I had rainbow trout that was cooked on a thin piece of wood, and it was great! My friend had the ribs (he is from Seattle) and thought they were really tasty. So all in all, we liked it. When my wife and I go back there on the boat we will probably eat there again.

I've really only ever been here for the Sunday brunch buffet, and it's always been really good. The only downside is that its really pretty expensive. They have good food though for the brunch.... custom omelets, ham, roast beef, waffles, etc. If you don't mind the price, the food is pretty good.

Great crab bisque! The tilapia oscar was great as was the Trout with cherries, squash and spinach. we ate outside and saw the badger come in. It was our last night in town and we wanted something healthy and relaxing....Steamers did not disappoint! My wife is a pescatarian and was happy with the healthy menu options! Nice cocktails and wine list too! There really is no way to hate this spot unless you're a jerk.

If you are passing through Ludington and want to enjoy a nice dinner - do not be fooled by the seemingly nice website for this restaurant. Eat at one of the smaller local restaurant and you will not be disappointing. This place has a menu that is probably 80% frozen, processed food. It is not vegetarian friendly and doesn't offer much excitement for the traditional steak/seafood lover. All of the pricey dishes lack the precision that a chef would supply and are not worth the cash. Stopping by for a sandwich would be a safe bet - nothing more. Dinner here is overrated and will let you down.

A great place to go in Ludington. The staff is professional, warm and accommodating, the seasonal food choices are always wonderful, the Ahi Tuna and the perch are always fabulous, and the bar well stocked. Admittedly, the wine list is not overly impressive, but affordable offerings make trying something new less risky! A view of the Lake, a passion for Ludington, and a culinary delight can all be found here.

My Fiance and I ate there about a month ago and had an ok meal. The wait staff was very good, the pricing was right in line and the food was mediocre. We had the Spinach dip to start and it wasn't terrible (that's as far as I'm willing to go with it) I don't usually expect the world with Spinach dip and that being said, it didn't meet expectations. It does seem that most of the food is fresh out of the freezer. I had looked at a couple of options but settled On t he fried Perch. Nothing to write home about but it's tough to blow that dish. Overall I would say that this would be a nice place to catch a couple of drinks in the summer but skip the meal.

Our family of four went for dinner last Friday night. The crab bisque was made with imitation crab. The coconut shrimp was only alright. Both my husband and I ordered whitefish which was awful. I think it was frozen fish, there was no flavor. Even after squeezing my lemon to death and adding salt, there was still no flavor to the fish. My son had the prime rib sandwhich and would only eat half of it. I would not return to this restaurant. For the prices it charges you would expect much better food. Make the drive to Gull Landing in Pentwater - food was much better and similarly priced.

It's a fine place. Nothing fancy but solid. A glass of some reasonable wine for 5 bucks and our fish was ok, so nothing to complain about. We had a great evening and enjoyed the view, bits and pieces of sunset included. The stuff was welcoming and friendly. We would come again.

  • Jane B.

Ate for the first time @ PM Steamers last week. Sat outside on a beautiful Michigan evening - wanted to see the sunset and look out onto the harbor. Only downside - not sure what the deal was with the deck, but every time someone walked by I was bobbing up and down! Kinda got old REALLY quick! Wait staff was nice and I had a local craft beer - Triumph - YUMMY! Then I ordered the cucumber soup - YUMMY!! Only downside to the soup - served in really small cup and I wanted MORE!!! I had the spinach ravioli & my husband had the perch. My husband thought the perch was very good. The ravioli was ok - the ravioli was cheese stuffed with spinach leaves laying on top of the ravioli - I kept adding salt & pepper to bring out some taste but couldn't get it to pop! So, we will visit PM Steamers the next time we are in town, BUT....we will sit inside and I will try the Michigan salad instead. Also saw the Badger (in all its nasty, coal driven, dirty glory) steam out of port. Nice view and great sunset.

Nice atmosphere for this area but limited and boring menu. You have to walk through a smoking area to get to a decent table. However, don't miss having a cocktail when the Badger docks. The manager rings the ship bell to let you know she's steaming into the harbor.

Not easily found unless you're a boater, as this eatery is not on the main drag in Ludington. We were seated with a nice view of the marina and service at first was prompt and courteous. After she brought our drinks and took our order, we felt forgotten. The frozen Margherita went right to my head so I needed some bread pronto. I had to specifically ask for bread to get it. Once the food came though (not a long wait at all) WOW! Best Filet Mignon I have had since Jim and Christe's wedding! Cooked to perfection! Chunky garlic mashed potato was awesome also. My wife had the Italian White Fish and loved it. I will definitely come back here again!

Spent a long weekend recently in Ludington, and Traverse City it is not when it comes to great dining options on the lake. Went to P.M Steamers one night and thoroughly enjoyed the setting on the marina. Interior hasn't been updated sine the 80's/90's and it shows. Food is cooked and presented like its the only game in town, and it shows. Ordered the lake perch, a long time favorite, and it was serviceable. Tepid wine list served in a glass that rivals Lil' Johns pimp cup for weight and chunkiness. Our waiter looked like he'd rather be anywhere else. Didn't stick around for dessert as I'm not the biggest fan of dessert trays and there exists a Kilwin's serving excellent ice cream a 4 minute walk away.

Perch was good, everything else we had was marginal. Good service though. Enjoyed the view of the marina and watching the SS Badger come in tonight. Probably won't be here again tho.

We visit PM Steamers every year when we come up to Ludington. The service is always great. Love the lobster and ahi tuna. One thing that really disappointed my boyfriend and I is that they took our favorite menu option off the menu! The Spicy Chorizo Penne. It hasn't been on the menu the last couple years we've come. We've also heard other people try to order it/ask the servers why it's no longer on the menu. I don't see why they'd take an item off the menu that was so popular! Also love the view of Lake Michigan from the restaurant.

The food was great, however very slow & our female server was not very attentive. She made a dubious claim stating there was no cheese to put on my side salad. my pasta dish was supposed to Come with parm & breadstick, which I had to ask for. I've heard great things so we may give it one more shot, hopefully this was just an off night Update: we decided to give it another shot. Unfortunately we ended up with the same server, same experience. I changed it to 2 stars. This server is just horrible!

I had dinner here two nights ago at the recommendation of a friend whose condo I'm staying in nearby. I ordered the whitefish, and it was delicious. Cooked perfectly, a very good size portion, and very tasty. My friend ordered the fish and chips and said they, too, were really good. We enjoyed P M Steamers so much we almost went back last night, but decided to sample more local food instead. I'd go back based on my one and only meal. Service was also good.

We are here on August 19th. Service was very good and friendly. They were accommodating when I asked to substitute scallops for shrimp in the risotto. It was dark when we were there but I'm sure the view was beautiful during the day. Prices are reasonable.

Mcdonalds... Burger King... a Tv dinner. All things I would rather have than PM Steamers food. Visited this restaurant over Labor Day weekend. Read the reviews and saw a lot of 3-4 star reviews and figured it'd be a decent place to try out. Complete disaster. Warning 1 couldn't have come soon enough. Right when you walk in the joint you get a smell of pure awfulness. It smells disgusting, old, just gross. Also, looked like the place could use a good cleaning. Second, the hostess was completely lost I feel. I asked a simple question " can we please get a table near the window" which the area was completely open so the answer should've been an immediate yes i figured but apparently the question might have been too complex an instead of waiting for her to decide i said will just sit outside. Sitting down i'm relieved to see the menu isn't huge which typically means the food should be good as the chefs are use to a small simple menu so executing the dishes should be quite simple. We order wine and put an order in for Perch and White fish. apparently they are two of their best sellers. What a complete an utterly terrible excuse for food. The Perch came out cold and the breading was just plain... no seasoning. Salt and Pepper are a thing and clearly are not utilized in the kitchen unfortunately. The potatoes were bland the green beans weren't even cooked and bland, and the rice... you guessed it bland. These plates were priced at around $22-$25. If you don't smoke you might start after eating here to get the nasty taste of their food off your palate. We ate maybe 1/8 of our food and politely told our waitress the food was not good. I didn't tell our waitress but it was probably one of the top 3 worst places I've ever been out to eat at. I hate to be this blunt but the place was this awful. I can't make this up... if you're going to charge high end prices for your food at least deliver on it because as of right now it's just plain awful. Also, they only took half off of our bill. We ate basically nothing and they still charged $36... I could of went to another restaurant ordered 2 entrees and 2 drinks for that price and been more happy. Do yourself a favor, go literally anywhere else and you'll probably be better off. Oh yeah, don't get the house red wine... it's god awful.

Best place to go in Ludington for a special occasion, or just something different. They always have a wide variety and new things on the menu. Their dessert is also GREAT. The view is best in front on the lower level facing the marina, so we always request to sit in that area. The views from the rest of the restaurant are very nice as well if they do not have seating down in front.

Visiting and had local friend show me around. Had an amazing Filet Mignon. Food was great. Had appetizers of calamari and crab. The only compliant was service. Female server didn't introduce herself and didn't make eye contact when ordering drinks. She was writing on her pad finishing up her last table while trying to talk to us. She didn't keep up refills and disappeared a lot. There was maybe 15 people inside when we ordered and took a good 45min. to get our food for a party of three. If you pay good money for good food, it should come with great service. But enjoyed the food none the less and liked the town of Ludington.

This was supposed to be one of the high end restaurants in town. But not sure if I had that experience...I went there for dinner, the place was packed, so naturally you would think the food should be good... Ordered drinks, it was a cocktail with lemon and gin. Man, that was a mistake. It was too strong to even sip! I literally had to add some water so that I can drink it. Main course was prime rib. It was OK. Meat did not have any flavor to it, it was chewy and just did not taste like that high end food. Side included was OK. It was spinach, and potatoes. None of the food did taste like a high end food. One thing was good, was the dessert. I did enjoy that part of the dinner. I had it to go, so had it when I was back at the hotel. I would have given it just 2 stars, but when I was there, a steamer pulled in to the bay. The bell went off, and had a chance to watch it get anchored. Since I was seated near the massive windows, I did really enjoyed the view of the bay.

I took my wife here for a date night and was very impressed with the service, food, and atmosphere. The view is great and the decor is simple and clean. My wife ordered some kind of chicken and pasta, while I ordered blackened red fish with a Louisiana crab cake and asparagus. My wife loved her dish, and mine was absolutely amazing as well. Prices were definitely aligned with the quality of the food. I will recommend this place to anyone.

The food was extremely inexpensive for the quality and atmosphere. Yes you can get better but not at these prices. The bisque was incredible. The view from the dining room is worth the price of dinner. Service was ok and desert was great.

  • Gary G.

I agree with Paul. We have not been here since 2012 and it is not the food quality from the prior years. The flat bread used with the smoked salmon was doughy and tasteless. The bun on the perch sandwich was day-old quality and the perch was over done and over breaded. The porterhouse steak had more fat than a cheap ribeye. Beyond the food, the place just looked shabby. If not for the attentive and friendly service from Bree, we would have walked out when the dinner was presented. On a bright side, the salads were fresh. Prior to leaving, we took the time to write this review on the ticket so the manager knew the experience was not up to expectations. In addition, we expressed hope they improve soon.

The service was above average. Server was helpful and prompt. The bad was the fish was overcooked and dry. They bait and switched me on the fume blanc to the tune of two dollars a glass.

1st time here. Was on 10 year anniversary date. We ordered 2 Porterhouse Steaks and a cocktail. These steaks were the worst we have had in a long time. Worse than supermarket select cuts. The vegatables were aldente. The new potatoes were fine. We asked for a1 sauce and were brought a quarter full bottle. (In Edible without the sauce)... The steaks were both overcooked, the cut was not good . No marbeling at all. The steaks were flavorless to boot. drinks stayed empty and we ran out of sauce !! I wrote on the check the issues we had. Our server saw after picking up the check. She spoke with a busboy ,Im sure venting about us. No manager came over to speak with us. In fact that busboy came back with our check still with writing on it and the customer sign copy and told us "Our server was to busy to come back" handed us our check and walked away. We called after leaving and spoke with the manager who was appologetic (appreciated that) asked for feedback. (also appreciated ) Summation. Bland poorly cooked Steak(tasted like freezerburn ) Long periods without drinks. Long periods without service. Unprofessional wait staff. Manager should be checking on tables. We left without ordering wine or dessert. Still spent $80 Expected a lot more!

We were in Ludington for our anniversary and wanted a decent place to have dinner. We should have listened to the previous Yelp reviews and skipped this place. But a few of the menu items looked too good not to try. Big mistake. We started with drinks, and my husband, a bourbon lover, ordered the Amalfi. It was made of low-quality bourbon mixed with something that tasted like orange cough syrup. My wine was something I'd already had before and it was fine. It took two requests before the waitress brought us any water. I ordered the Red Pepper Pasta. It was OK, nothing special, but edible. My husband wanted the Chorizo and Chipotle Pasta, which was on the online menu, but nowhere in sight on the actual menu. So he settled for the Cherry Bourbon Pork Spareribs. All of our food arrived very quickly - perhaps TOO quickly, as the ribs were cold - not even room temperature. The waitress took these back to the kitchen without even an apology. While we were waiting for the replacements to arrive (which was taking forever), my husband decided the food wasn't worth the wait. We got our check and left. We never saw a manager or were offered any kind of apology. Go to the Jamesport Brewing Company instead. That's where we headed after the disaster at PM Steamers. Jamesport has great service and excellent food and drinks.

I don't know what has happened to this restaurant, for many years this restaurant combined a great atmosphere with good service and great food The Prime Rib was great tender and tasty and the Perch was the best in the area great breading fried to perfection. In the last year or so things have changed, the service is still fine and the place still has great atmosphere but the food is just OK. All the meat cuts are tough and tasteless. The Perch has bland greasy breading and seems like frozen food. I hope someday that PM Steamers remembers what they had and returns to the high standards they once had. . You can't beat the marina view and seeing the SS Badger go by on its way back from Wisconsin, but for the price it is off my short list of Ludington restaurants.

PM Seamers has been a favorite of ours since the year they opened. We make it a point to eat here every year on vacation. The food remains great and the location next to the harbor is outstanding. I can rarely think of ordering anything other than the Key Largo Chicken...a wonderful dish. So, why only three stars? First, the service has become adequate, but not great...they seem to be living off of their reputation. More importantly, the decor has not changed or been updated since the place opened in the early 1990's. While the theme honoring the great steamships of the Great Lakes is appropriate, the restaurant screams out for fresh paint, wallpaper and furniture. Please, please replace the chairs! The 20+ year old padding wore out years ago. Give customers a more pleasant environment and the rewards will be great!

I was thoroughly disappointed with PM Steamers... The one positive about the meal was the service... Our waitress was attentive and very friendly. Unfortunately, great service is not going to distract me from the fact that the food was mediocre at best... We started with the calamari and spinach and artichoke dip... The calamari was small, greasy and tasteless... The spinach and artichoke dip came to our table cold. After our less than appealing appetizers, our salads came. I had the spinach salad, which, minus the insane amount of dressing on it (it made the spinach wilt and become soggy), was pretty good, as the dressing was very tasty. Now for the dinner portion of our meal... I ordered the prime rib, which comes with garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. The prime rib was tough and tasteless, the potatoes were cold and tasteless, and the spinach had absolutely no character... The best part of my meal was the company I was with and the wine that we drank (Oberon). I would not recommend PM Steamers, as the food lacked quality for the price I paid...

We saw the review in the New York Times and high ratings from our hotel staff, and were not disappointed. We had the Michigan cherry sangria, seasonal green salad with more of those delicious cheries and stuffed trout--super bien! Located right near the marina and landing for the SS Badger, a steam-powered car ferry that has been taking folks across Lake Michigan to Wisconsin for years and years. Enjoy!

My husband finished his meal (which I suggested he eat while it was hot) as I waited for a second attempt at a fully cooked salmon. First try was cold and raw! Did it come out of a freezer? No attempt was made on the bill to correct the error and no apologies from the waitress. Enough said. Would not recommend.

  • Matt F.

Perch was good, everything else we had was marginal. Good service though. Enjoyed the view of the marina and watching the SS Badger come in tonight. Probably won't be here again tho.

The service was above average. Server was helpful and prompt. The bad was the fish was overcooked and dry. They bait and switched me on the fume blanc to the tune of two dollars a glass.
