This is probably my favorite place in downtown Lansing. It has a great location, good patio with a lovely view of the capitol, and nice decor. I've been in for dinner, late night drinks, and brunch, and enjoyed each experience. Brunch and drinks were probably better than dinner. Service is usually pretty good. They serve beer in some metal cup things on the patio which apparently makes the beer taste like metal (so I've been told by my fellow drinkers), so you might want to ask for a glass. Cool place worth checking out.

Let me start out by saying the food was delicious and blew our expectations away. The service was fine. Nothing to rave about. But the prices seemed high to me for what you were given. We got a Chef Salad, The Bruschetta and The Lobster Rolls. The salad seemed more of a side salad in size kind of bland even with the dressing. For that price, we could go down the street for something doubled that size. The Bruschetta was perfect. It was a great portion to share and the truffle flavor was great but not overpowering. The Lobster Rolls sliders were delicious. But, the bread was not toasted and sort of got soggy. Plus, there was a lot more bun than lobster on the sandwich. The service was fine. Our waitress kept walking in circles, kept nagging us to buy more but we just ignored her and tried to enjoy our meal.

We have been here three times, once for brunch, once for dinner, and once for drinks. The first visit was for brunch when two of our friends were from out of town. My wife and I came from Milwaukee and our friends are from Chicago, two very brunch-centric cities, so we have a strong sense of what we like in a brunch. And we were pleasantly surprised with the offerings here, especially given that Lansing doesn't seem to fully embrace brunch overall. The service was friendly and prompt and we all enjoyed our orders. Fast forward about 8 months and we were in a bit of a pickle due to another restaurant (Midtown) somehow losing our reservation for 15 people for our wedding rehearsal dinner. A member of the party gave Tavern & Tap a call and they immediately said they would make room for us. We arrived shortly after the call and we were seated within minutes. They made sure we had an appropriate amount of servers for the group so service was great. This was also the first my wife and I (and the rest of the party for that matter) had any of the dinner entrees. We were all very pleased at both the options available and their execution. They also had live music that night, with the performer playing/singing us a requested song for the occasion and later coming back to congratulate us. Everyone in the party was very impressed overall. The following day, our wedding reception wrapped up around 10:30pm and we still had more celebrating to do. Naturally, we thought we should continue the party at Tavern & Tap since they had been so awesome the night before. And they were yet again. Despite taking up about a third of the bar area, they made sure we had prompt service and made sure that we were enjoying the night and occasion as much as possible, which we did. Of the many places that my wife and I have dined, Tavern & Tap has been one of the rare establishments that really made sure that we had the best experience possible on more than one occasion, and we look forward to more similar experiences there.

Great selection of beer and ale. The food is where this place really shines. Awesome sandwiches for lunch. Fast and friendly service makes this spot a winner while downtown Lansing. You are only steps from the Capital for a great history tour. My server Kristiiiiiii made this bust very pleasant.

I came to town to visit a friend and we wanted to sit outside on a patio. She mentioned that Tavern on the Square had moved into the building where Edmund's used to be. She also mentioned they changed the menu because let's face it, the old menu was horrible. So I said what the hell and we went. We sat ourselves on the patio. Whoever designed that space apparently failed out of their design program. The chairs do not fit underneath the tables which creates a total cluster because you are basically forced to get up and physically move the chair if the person sitting at the adjacent tables needs to leave or use the restroom. The space is cramped to begin with and the chairs make it even worse. The happy hour specials were good. I originally got a beer which was $3 but I didn't like the steel cups. I got the lobster roll minis and the spinach pillows. The lobster roll was $13.95 and the spinach pillows were originally $9.50 I think. You sure didn't get a whole lot of food for those prices, four wonton like things with spinach in it and three 2-bite sliders. Even my friend's salad was tiny for $13. Everything tasted good but it seemed way overpriced. The worse thing was the waitress. OMG! Do you not want a tip? I mean my beer sat empty and she came by to pick up an empty plate and she breezed away before I could even order something else. It literally took 25 minutes for her to bring the check. Then she promised to "be right back" to pick it up. Fifteen minutes later she returns, then 10 minutes after that she brings me back the card and receipt. My friend and I got there right before 5 and we didn't leave until right around 7 and not because we wanted to loiter.

This is a very nice restaurant and bar. We enjoy the décor very much, has a very open feeling. The manager is very much in tune with his customers, always pleasant. The wait staff are friendly and seem happy, know the menu, good suggestions. Happy hour is 10:00 am to 3:00 pm every weekend, and during the week 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. They do get busy on the weekends. Love the Bloody Mary's.

A classy looking joint with a George Washington/Revolutionary Era theme? Count me in! While in Lansing on Business, I was happy to come across Tavern+Tap near the hip main street in town and was drawn in by the cool branding. Once you go inside, the atmosphere and design is reminiscent of many modern young-professional restaurants on the West and East Coasts. I arrived during the super busy hour of 7pm and the place was packed but I was able to find a seat at the bar, which is nicely tucked in between the main dining area and back dining area, so it feels intimate. My bartender was very helpful in picking a good local craft beer and even gave me a few different samples without even asking for them, which was a nice touch. The menu seems very experimental with many new twists on classics such as 'Chicken in Waffles' which I ordered. My meal came fairly quickly and dear god was it amazing. Everything was incredibly flavorful and hearty as hell. I generally try to eat healthy, but sometimes you just need some comfort food, amiright?? This definitely hit the spot and is highly recommended. If you happen to find yourself in Lansing for work or otherwise and are looking for a hip and modern joint with lots of good craft beer and quality cooking, look for the place with George Washington on the windows.

Delicious food. Perfect (and cheap) bloody Mary's and mimosas for brunch on the weekend. And my waitress, Leah, provided fantastic customer service. Definitely cannot wait to go back!

I've gone here twice. The first time the waitress kept forgetting about us (one time going 45 minutes without refilling our beers, and this is before we were served any food) and was very unprofessional. The food wasn't too bad, but the menu items were bizarre (trying too hard without any expertise). The second time, just a couple days ago, my boyfriend and I were the only ones in there during lunch. Mediocre food at best. My boyfriend ordered soup and the waitress managed to tell us, 25 minutes after ordering, that there wasn't enough of it to serve so she offered a fruit salad instead. He got that, and I swear it was a half a can of dole fruit cocktail. Not only that, but she charged us for the soup. This place is only good for drinks. I won't be surprised if it's closed in the next couple months.

Eh. That's it. Eh. The service was slow granted that they were under-staffed. But they also tried to rip us off when we ordered a bottle of wine by saying they were out of full size bottles and gave us two mini bottles, which adds up to only half a bottle. Then continued to give us a hard time about it when we confronted them about it but eventually gave us the full amount we paid for.

Great service from Christina. Went with coworkers and had wonderful apps including firecracker shrimp and a fondue pretzels that where amazing. The kale salad was great and had a tasty cilantro lime dressing. Coworkers has salmon that looked tasty. Will be back.

First visit. Downtown restaurant bar. First impression, adult lounge. With low lights, dark wood, contemporary decor, black and white accents-I felt like an extra in an Hour Detroit Mag ad. This place turns Young Adult Sexy into a mood and experience. The occasion, a friends birthday, found a perfect place to be great. Our waitress was attentive and patient. We all had separate checks and she handled it well. I appreciate her tending to the needs of at least 20 people and not losing a few marbles after we had a few. The bars crowd was on a spectrum of age, dress, drinks and entertainment. They have several flat screens throughout, all tuned to a game, I only noticed one but I am a toddler to football schedules. The music was tepid. I am not sure how the playlist was chosen but it was a Your Anniversary Party type of mix. Someone mentioned a DJ but I feel like DJ's make restaurant/bars even more crowd ambiguous and cheesy. Just have better playlists. The menu is matte laminated and the smartest idea ever. A lot of swankier night life places want to pass a water wrinkled and food stained paper menu. T&T's menu still maintained a clean look, the printing theme, the sections all easy to read and clear. I was not able to get Black Label or Bookers but drank Red Label. I hope on my return I'll find my other favorites. Our party was able to order several Lavender Collins, John Collins, Pickle Backs and shots so I have confidence in their bar menu. More visits will tell. Guac and chip opinions were lukewarm, no one complained. It was crisp and fresh tasting to me. The chips were crispy, not too salty or oily. I ordered pork belly with fancy trappings, it was good but nothing spectacular, it was saved by the sauce. I'll return for the eats.

First time here, friends and kids recommended. Food is great but the service leaves a lot to be desired. If it weren't for the food I'd only give it one star. Server brought the check after one drink and a small plate, never asked if we wanted anything else. My second beer came after we were all done, at least it was comped when I asked. They need to hire more help, and competent help. Our server reminded me of Lisa Kudrow's character from friends, both in looks and brains (lack of). As for the food, VERY good. They have an innovative tapas menu, locally sourced salads, and everything was very fresh. Beer list could be more expansive, especially given their name, but what they do have stresses local/Michigan beers.

was disappointed with my lunch. Not only was it $24 for a bowl a soup and a kids portion of mac and cheese, but the food itself was lukewarm and the soup was watered down.

My job has me traveling the country a lot. As a New Yorker, I've been to Lansing three times in the last two years. And each time I've been here I've made it a point to go to this bar. They have great food, delicious drinks, and a fun staff. This place should definitely be in your top three choices if you're looking for a good time in downtown Lansing. Ask for Zach... he'll make you some awesome drinks.

Saturday 9 pm. Busy, noisy but fun. Mixed age group as well. Looks clean. Beer was not good and flat. They took it of the tab. Cocktail was good. Food was tasty and the right size portion. The staff were young and up to speed. Service was good.

As an MSU student I was pretty excited to find Tavern and Tap in the heart of Lansing. Right outside of the capital building, this place fits right in with a Revolutionary era theme. Despite the theme, this place is a fun place to grab some food and drinks. Its especially good for those trying to get away from the East Lansing bar scene. They have a mixture of some really great food options and some really average food options. Their fire cracker shrimp is amazing though and is what brings me back to this place. Overall all though, its not a bad place to come in and get some food or drinks with family or friends

The brisket tacos were amazing and the chicken and waffles might be the best I've ever seen. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. A little bit pricey but for the quality it is worth it. Pretty solid service and a great atmosphere. Outdoor seating is a plus. Would recommend to a friend.

I've been here several times now and each instance has been horrible due to poor quality food (lots of frozen stuff), slow service (they also are not familiar with the menu), and an extremely loud atmosphere (cannot hear the person next to you)... Oh and super spotty lighting that makes it hard to read a menu. The only reason why I return is because it's a good place for large groups of people to grab dinner and drinks. Everyone I know who visits this place has the same opinion... we always walk away super dissatisfied. It's sad... this place looks like it has potential. Oh my gosh and please get rid of serving beer in stainless steel cups!

We stopped at Tavern & Tap for an early dinner before going to see Phantom. We found an incredible tapas menu and we ordered a few things to share. Wow! Everything was so good we never moved on to the entrees! Bruschetta, pork belly, guacamole, brisket tacos (!!!), warm marinated olives, shrimp & grits...the list goes on. Mixed drinks and beer menu were also great. Right in the heart of downtown Lansing, it is the little brother to Troppo right across the street. But with a feel and menu all its own! We will be stopping by again soon! Thanks Justin, Andrew and Sam for your dish recommendations.

Went for an anniversary dinner. Had not been to the new Tavern since it opened. The new menu is interesting, many things I would try, but not my husband. We had the poutine-very good. Hubby had the Lobster mac and cheese which he liked a lot..lobster was sparse, but he liked it better without. I had Root Beer pork belly. The sauce was great and the sweet potato chips were a good addition. What wasn't good was the atmosphere....well decorated, but WAY TOO LOUD!! Could not carry on a conversation and had a headache by the time we left. I could not wait to get out.....perhaps a separate room with noise dampeners for quieter dining would be good. I would return for the food if it weren't so noisy.

Disappointment sums it up. 4 of us went on a Saturday night. 1st visit for me and my wife, 2nd visit for the other couple (who were willing to give the place a 2nd chance after a subpar 1st experience). The okay: The facility (having previously been home to Troppo and then the now-defunct Edmund's Pastime) is good looking, although the lack of an entry vestibule results in blasts of cold air in the winter when someone enters. Overhead doors opening to the patio will be nice come summer. Lighting is inconsistent throughout the seating area -- table next to us had too much light, we had none and had to strain to read the menus, table on the other side of us had perfect amount. The draft list. Nothing spectacular or particular creative, but at least there are a dozen or so craft beers available. Unfortunately they don't know how to serve them (see below). Also, draft list is on a chalkboard that only about 20% of the tables can see. The less than okay: The food. Started with the guacamole appetizer. Uninspired at best. Moved on to main course. Not sure what "Yankee Tapas" means, but it ain't tapas - it's more like small entrees. Lettuce wraps were okay (spicy!), fish tacos were meh. We also ordered three pizzas -- we were optimistic because the pizza menu is unique and has a number of seemingly-creative recipes, but the execution just wasn't there. Lobster Pie was dry and bland, and while it smelled like "fish" (not in a good way), there was little to no lobster meat or flavor. Potato, Bacon & Bleu was also extremely dry - so much so that it was barely edible and required a swig of water or beer to wash down. The Wild Mushroom & Pesto was easily the best of the three, but was still unremarkable. The bad: The stainless steel "pint" glasses. First, they seem closer to 12 oz than 16 oz to me, but I could be wrong. The size issue was exacerbated by the fact that a couple of the "pints" served to us were only 2/3 full due to bad pours by the bartender (photo posted). More critically, they are just awful for serving craft beer. Not only are American-style pint glasses the worst design for beer, only storage vessels should be made of stainless steel -- serving vessels for beer should be glass. Period. They feature 99 cent 5 oz pours of all of the beers all day every day, and those not only come in glass vessels, but are cheaper by volume than ordering a full serving, so stick to the 5 oz pours and just tell the server to keep them coming. Also, mid-meal the music volume increased by about 50% to club-level. While I certainly can appreciate some old-school Tribe Called Quest, the volume level essentially forced us out as we could no longer talk without yelling across the table. Definitely an identity crisis -- is this a tavern, a restaurant, or a night club? Can't be all 3.

Slow service on a Wednesday night. Don't order the bone marrow (one was raw and both were cold) or the lobster sliders (mostly bread). The onion rings that come with the lobster sliders are tasty and so are the buffalo bites. Poutine is ok. Atmosphere is nice. Happy hour drink specials are great! Basically, come for the drinks, not the food.

Still serving up great food and service. I even branched out the last couple times we visited, reflections below: Chorizo hash with a couple fried eggs on top. This was the perfect size breakfast, not too small and not too large. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hash was delicious, nothing like the hash I remember from my youth. Chorizo was tasty and not overpowering. Brisket French Dip is freaking awesome. It was hard to abandon the burgers, but they got this sandwich right. Not too salty, nice bun and sauce. The Au jus, i didn't even need. Shrimp and grits (bacon wrapped): First, I don't even like grits. Don't hate them, but they are often uninspired. These were delicious and cheesey. The shrimp was cooked well and the bacon remained quite crispy wrapped around the little guy. It was a great combination every bite and I would definitely order again. Buffalo bites - The appetizers are half off from 3-7. It doesn't get much better than that. The buffalo bites are meaty and scrumptious and perfect for dipping. No brainer! Oh, please post the brunch and lunch menus on line.

Went there for a quick lunch, waited for an hour, had to leave without having our meel but with a promise that they would look at our orders in '10-15 minutes'. Never again.

The food is terrible, especially for the price. Lettuce wraps reminded me of generic Chinese food. Swedish meatballs tasted like spoiled meat. Poor selection of beer. What a disappointment.

My family went to Tavern & Tap on a Sunday morning for brunch. My husband loved their burger & beer for 8 bucks deal! My sister and I split the chicken & waffles which was delicious - (the chicken was extra crispy). My mom & dad got frittatas and were slightly disappointed. There was another large party there (both were parties of 10) at the same time. Even though we called ahead and they weren't too busy (about 30% occupied), we ended up waiting a good hour for our food . I would think that on a Sunday morning at a venue that advertises brunch, the service would have been a little better. Other than that, I liked it! We would definitely go back. Ambiance is classy and casual, a little pricey for what you get, but still decent.

Went here yesterday with my husband to watch the State game. They found us a seat quickly, even though they were packed. Our service was prompt and accurate! The root beer pork belly and the smoked fondue were beyond amazing! The manager was also very attentive and actually moved a chair and the table so I could see the game better! This place is hands down the best bar I have been to in a long time! My husband and I will be back for sure and will give nothing but glowing reviews to our friends and family! Actually we wanted to come back today cause it was that good!!

There were hardly any vegetarian options on the dinner menu, so it was a bust for me. I just ordered an appetizer, and it was fine. It's also pretty loud in there, and difficult to carry a conversation. Not so impressed, but it is a fun location.

Pull up a chair and let me tell you a story.... I was very excited to try this new location of the original restaurant known as Tavern on the Square. After graduating from Cooley, I had not been in Lansing in some time. I was excited to see that Edmunds had closed and was replaced with Tavern and Tap. Upon looking at the menu it offered many more options than did the old Edmunds. I somewhat expected this as the old Tavern on the Square had a real nice menu and after living in the area for three years I made my way around and tried just about everything they had to offer. Unfortunately, I never made it past finishing my beer I ordered. Shortly after putting a food order in, the bartender asked my fiancé and I how our drinks were and assured us that our food would be out in a few. Some may say this type of service is expected and greatly appreciated. However, the (insert word that rhymes with Mouche) of a manager proceeded to yell and scold the bartender right in front of us because she was "socializing" with the patrons. He even went on to fire her right in front of us. It much resembled a conversation you would come to expect if you frequented a Chicago style restaurant known as Ed Dibevicks, except this was reality and not for entertainment purposes. I had never been so embarrassed for a worker and made to feel so uncomfortable. After the incident and she was made to leave, I told the rest of the wait staff to cancel my order as I could not stand to sit there any longer. I proceeded to speak with the weasel of a manager in an attempt to reason with him and let him know that she wasn't "socializing" with friends that she actually was just providing good service and he may have been mistaken. I exclaimed how he made us feel incredibly uncomfortable and without remorse all he could muster to me was "have a nice night." I assume he has a lousy attitude because maybe life hasn't quite turned out the way he always envisioned it. Still not my problem that at 35 years old you're a manager at a restaurant in Lansing, Michigan. Not my fault not my problem. Whatever makes him sleep better at night after he drives his Ford Focus home is fine by me but u fortunately a restaurant that I was a fan of for many years has lost my business. I have never been so disappointed in all my life!!!

I've been here several times since their move and new name. Decor is cold and sterile and LOUD unlike the cozy and welcome atmosphere of the old space. The food quality has gone downhill. There is a definite problem in the kitchen. They cannot keep up. My last visit yesterday lasted 90 minutes. This was lunch. No lingering. No adult beverages. Just an astonishing 50 minute wait for food to come out of the kitchen and then it came out wrong. I'm sad. This was my favorite spot downtown but it's over now.

Love, love, love this place! Great brunch deals and drinks until 3pm every Sunday. $2 Mimosas and I think either $4/5 Bloody Marys is hard to turn down. Lots of seating, as well as bar seating with a view of the numerous TVs. Very cool atmosphere and love the building. The bartender working that day (I didnt catch his name) was very busy but he still gave great service. Its a great place for family or friends to gather and enjoy!

The food here is great! I've enjoyed the variety of items ordered over my past visits to this establishment. I am however not a fan of the loudness of the atmosphere at most times, as well as the AWFUL service we've received on pretty much every visit...to where I ask, "Why is it we came here again??"...oh right the food...(if/when it gets to us.). Example: on my last visit to Tavern (3/29/15) it took quite some time (10-15 miins)before anyone came to our table to get our order, after which took a long time (30 mins+) to receive the ordered food (I brushed it off as just being a busy day due to the game). Luckily our drinks came in a decent timeframe, though the metal glasses I was not a fan of, at all. During our wait for the food however, no one came by to refill the one water brought for the two of us, or to ask if we wanted another beer. Additional people joined our table, and they too were not addressed for way too long. We stuck around to watch two basketball games that day...after MSU won the place became empty and we were still left to ourselves...no servers in sight! I went up to the bar to get us more drinks and to request a menu again...that too took several minutes for someone to acknowledge I was standing waiting there. ??? Our (new) server (cause of shift change) finally came over and took our second food order, which after a long wait again, came wrong and then the replacement order (correct item) took over 45 mins to get!! Meanwhile our glasses were empty and our server was sitting in the corner near us eating with another staff member! The place was dead, why on earth was it taking sooooo long to get an order from the kitchen! Especially since the original order was wrong!! Secondly, why was our new server taking a break when they'd just started their shift? ...We were left hanging. We were not an obnoxious or demanding group by any means, so I don't understand why when we're clearly there for a long period of time actually ordering food and drinks...or at least trying to, and not just "camping out", why someone, anyone! wouldn't have wanted to be more attentive to us and make more money for themselves and the establishment. Just sad. I REALLY want to like this place and have given ample opportunity for it to be a good experience, but each time I'm let down.

Eclectic menu, drinks, and serving staff. Lettuce wraps and brisket tacos are highly recommended, and brunch has large portions compared to most restaurants also competing for the best brunch title- especially when compared to the pricing. Stop in the earlier evening for a quieter experience, but come out after ten if you feel like dancing!

Awful service. The service was so bad that it destroyed everything else for our group. Had waitress named "Ash N" according to our receipts. She ignored our table throughout the night, then would pop up after ignoring us for a half hour and say, "Oops, sorry guys!" We asked for our bills, and it took her 20 minutes to bring them. I was charged $3.72 for a Diet Coke. She shortchanged one member of my party by about $10 and then didn't apologize to her when it was pointed out. The rest of the waitresses seemed on top of their game and the live music was awesome. I still won't go back.
