Cake Art

Reviews:
Beth is FABULOUS and may be the nicest person around. She has an industrial kitchen in her home, which keeps the costs low (really low...). But don't assume that because she works out of her home that her cakes aren't as fantastic as someone who owns a bakery--they are beautiful AND delicious! We tried quite a few flavors and finally decided on lemon and chocolate and they were both a hit. Beth's cakes are moist and not crumbly like some wedding cakes can be. I'm not a huge frosting person, but even I can admit that Beth's frosting is out of this world. We also rented a beautiful cake stand from her. She is totally reliable and I could always get in touch with her, which is a big comfort to someone who is planning a wedding from out of town. My only regret is that we don't live in Michigan so we won't be able to order cakes from her for our future anniversaries! Thanks, Beth!

Reviews:
What do I say about this bar? I was traveling from Chicago and needed a spot to recharge and let loose with the locals. Great local spot, good people, and a great (tall and very cute) bartender. I tried a drink called the Johnny Vegas and it was fantastic. A no-frills bar with heart.

Gus's Bar is a little off the grid, but definitely worth the trip. Great bartender, great drinks, and great music. The menu is limited, but the food is fantastic. Prices can't be beat. My choice for best neighborhood bar in town.

Great Greek food, friendly staff and atmosphere. Plus it's a great location and they deliver downtown. The baklava was a delicious dessert after a great meal there.

Arby’s

Lansing, 48912
Reviews:
Food-wise, the same as every Arby's in the chain, so nice for fast food. More important, though, is that this location specifically has excellent service. I came in with a coupon, and when I presented it the cashier taking my order rang me up instead with a better one in their system, saving me several dollars, and let me keep the one I brought for next time. A big deal? Probably not, in the scheme of things. But for a chain restaurant I thought it was a very classy thing to do and I left with a great impression.

I've been to Blimpies all over, I mean, it's a pretty normal chain sub shop. I even used to work at one. But I review this one because the customer service is great! The man behind the counter is always super friendly & helpful. When I'm awake, he's personable & makes small talk, when I go in half asleep, he doesn't force me to wake up with pointless conversation. My sub has been delicious & made correctly every time & I felt very welcomed when I moved into the neighborhood.

Good Truckin’ Diner

1107 S Washington Rd
Lansing, 48910
Reviews:
I walked in at lunchtime on a Sunday, and it was PACKED, despite the empty sidewalk seating. I was seated immediately and left to peruse the smirkable menu. I took my time, and the waitress let me. Once I gave her my order, I soaked in the atmosphere. This isn't just a diner. It SCREAMS Michigan diner. Bar seating, booths, license plates on the wall, Oldsmobile memorabilia (love me some REO town), the severed heads of parking meters on the booth tables... perfect. The coffee was diner coffee, exactly what I expected, nothing more, nothing less. The shoestring fries were well seasoned, but could have been in the fryer for a bit longer. I can't blame them, I forgot to order them crispy, and I like them well done. I ordered the mushroom burger on pretzel bun, and my taste buds will be thanking me for the rest of the day. This wasn't just a mushroom burger, it was a supernova of flavor. I'm fairly certain that my eyes bugged out of my head and I uttered a string of make-a-sailor-proud curses, but I'll never know, because all I can remember is how good it tasted. If the rest of the food is as good as their burger, I would recommend letting nothing stand in between you and this diner. Not plague, famine, flood, war, death, humidity, or allergens. The Good Truckin' Diner? I shall return.
A small but mighty and charming diner in the up & coming REO Town. Food truck turned brick & mortar and so glad they did. The burgers are the best I've had. You can get the basics or choose one of their many creatively built masterpieces. You are treated like a friend upon entry which adds to its charm. Prices are very reasonable. The flavors are going to become your new cravings...ridiculously creative & delicious. Breakfast is just as fun & yummy...so many good choices we asked for help choosing. We split the Hangover Sammich & Mona's Omelette and loved both. Our kids loved it & have begged to come back "every morning".
This place is awesome. The food was well prepared. The menu has great options for both breakfast and lunch. The bourbon street French toast, excellent. The breakfast club "sammich" was flavorful and fulfilling. Definitely top breakfast I've had in Lansing.

Jersey Giant Submarines

Reviews:
One sub feeds two people or a small Guatemalan village. Great bread, freshly sliced meat. Good stuff.
A great no frills sub place, meat is sliced right in front of you and piled high. I've eaten at this location twice and it's been delicious both times. The subs are HUGE so you could always split it or make two meals out of it like I do.
Despite being owned by a jar head this place is fantastic. I am 6 foot 210 and I can only eat half of their subs. It would take two of me to eat a full size sub and we would be happy to do it. This isn't fancy. It isn't Quiznos or Jimmy Johns. It is just the freshest good old fashion sub. They slice the meat in front of you it is great. I imagine they got the cows and pigs round back it is so fresh. The prices are great for the mound of food you get.

Stumbled upon this gem via Yelp tonight while trying to satisfy an evening hunger. Thanks to those who rated this place before us, we tried it out. I completely agree with the 5 star rating. Our portions were huge and delicious. Everything was clean and the service was prompt and friendly. We will definitely be back even though we live an hour away.
I can't remember the last time I had Mexican food so good. It reminds me of the time I was a Texas ranger and had access to the finest Mexican food. I would eat tacos everyday. It became part of my training program. The enchiladas, tacos and chalupa are excellent! I tried one of everything on the menu and it left me full! Thank you Cancun Grill!!
Food was delicious! Staff was very friendly.

Whipped Bakery

1216 Turner St.
Lansing, 48906
Reviews:
When I walked into this place, I was in love. The interior is both modern and cute, and the folks working there were very nice and accommodating. I ordered 2 cookies (1 chocolate chip, 1 snickerdoodle), and 1 cupcake. The cupcake was fine, but the cookies were off. They both tasted like they were missing a key ingredient - maybe brown sugar or vanilla? Hard to tell, but they weren't good. I had to toss them after only a couple of bites. I'm thinking this was just a bad batch, so I'm willing to try again since this place is so new.
I've had many cupcakes in my days. This weekend I stopped at Whipped. I bought a German Chocolate one for myself and a lemon one for my wife. My wife has baked her way through Martha Stewart's cupcake book and she still thinks Whipped's was better. The price was right and they support teachers. We'll be coming back frequently!
This bakery has an incredible staff and amazing pastries. We tried 6 different cupcakes and they were all delicious. We ordered a snowball (white cake with raspberry filling covered with frosting and coconut) which we loved! My least favorite of the cupcakes was lemon, which is usually a favorite. The tiramisu lacked the coffee element but was still really good. The brownie I tried was tasty. I has the same buttercream frosting as the cupcakes. Some people are purists when it comes to brownies; I am not one of them. It was fantastic. We have not tried the cookies yet. Please go and enjoy this gem in Old Town!
