Lunch Review I've been in twice this week for lunch both times the service was very friendly, prompt and professional and the food was good to very good. My first lunch was a cup of the beef barley soup (pretty darn good) and the "Cheese and Spinach Pie" -- a very spanakopita-y dish -- good, but not great -- I'm calling that a 2-star lunch. Okay, but it didn't thrill me. Second visit, on a recommendation, I had the Sandwich Caprese - an open-face, fresh whole wheat bun with pesto, fresh basil, tomatoes and fresh mozzarella topped by a light drizzle of a balsamic vinaigrette. This was a 4-star sandwich!

Excellent Bosnian/Serbian Food. I spent some time in the Balkans a year ago and my girlfriend is from Serbia, so this was a fun find for us. We ordered the sampler platter and made a point to get some chevap while were there. We were very impressed. The food was savory and authentic. The waiter/owner provided us with excellent service. We came around 5:00 on a week day and there wasn't many people in the restaurant at the time. So we were seated and served right away. The restaurant was hilariously decorated with what appear to be the owners own pen & ink drawings. The men's room was decorated with slightly more scandalous versions, which, again, I find hilarious. If you'd like authentic Serbo-Bosnian food this place is the place! Very exciting find for that reason. Frankly, the only reason I give it a 4/5 as opposed to the whole 5 is because I thought the food was priced a little high, especially for Central-European comfort food.

Fabulous hospitality and service paired with outstanding food. So sorry they are retiring -- it was GREAT. Best of health and happiness to this wonderful family; we will miss you ! Thank you out for 10 terrific years.

I heard Meditaran may close. We'll be sad! We've had many meals there with a taste of Europe. We find it a very nice, cozy and cultured restaurant.

Very good value - Food is unique and tastes great, with excellent service and timely preparation. Food was fresh and filling. The decor is strange, but that is subjective. Overall a pleasant experience. They could pay more attention to cleanliness, our table cloth was not clean.

Having lived in Europe enjoying "Balkan food" for years; I was excited to check out Mediteran. Their quaint, cozy restaurant is small, yet inviting. I was immediately impressed with the menu selections - although they do not have a liquor license (non-alcoholic beer only). Our appetizers, soup, & salad were very good and were reminiscent of European cuisine. But, the entrees are what prompts this lower rating. Every dish was served with a copious amount of bland, over-powering gravy. The meat cuts were too thick and should have been pounded to tenderize. Unappealing starch accompaniments merely added to the disappointment. Changes to the preparation of the main faire is definitely warranted. If they left out the gravy & and served thinner cuts of meat - the place would improve. Make your dishes authentically European instead of trying to appease American pallets.

One of the finer menu's I've seen in Lansing, and still reasonably priced for the quality of food I received, this is definitely one of the places worth revisiting. I visited for lunch: For appetizers, they brought some bread out, although nothing terribly fancy. I ordered an Avocado Sandwich which was extremely tasty by comparison. The environment was a relatively dark, narrow room, without much to observe or distract. The wait staff was pleasant, and better than most establishments in the area, but not phenomenal. There was a bar at the front, which looked like a nice place to stop by for a happy hour, and indeed there were some business-attired patrons ordering take out from the bar as I arrived. There is a deli next door with a similar name, presumably owned by the same people, perhaps even sharing the same food service. Next time, I'll visit for dinner and try one of the "meatier" entrée to get a feel for the extent of culinary courage this place may have. I suggest you do too!

A nice restaurant that serves comfort food in the winter. Loved the platter we ordered for our family. It came with salad and soup. The kids loved the meal. The only problem was that they dont have high chairs for toddlers. Nevertheless, we will return to this place again.

This is my favorite Lansing restaurant. I go for supper as often as I can. Have never had a reservation. Food and service are reliably excellent and prices are reasonable. My only complaint is that they switched to instant mashed potatoes and margarine last year -- both are things I am picky about. The house salad and the spaetzle are two of my favorite items.

I've been to Mediteran once for lunch. The first time I tried to go there for lunch, they were so full that they just told me to leave. I eventually got around to going back, and it was well worth it. I had the Sandwich Caprese, a tomato/basil/mozzarella/pesto sandwich, and my girlfriend had the spinach/cheese pie (spanakopita) with a side salad. When we first sat down, we were pretty skeptical. There were very few vegetarian options on the menu, and they sounded pretty basic. Well, they were basic. But they were also phenomenal. The bread we were served as an appetizer was just a crusty roll with butter. Crusty rolls are usually stale and gross, but this tasted like it was just out of the oven and was a revelation. The Sandwich Caprese was on the same kind of roll and had a nice light pesto, fresh basil, delicious roma tomatoes (a nice change from the bland tomatoes that most places serve) and quality fresh mozzrella. The side salad was simple, but fresh and tasty with nice vinaigrette. The spinach pie, however, was the single best spanakopita I have ever had. It was even better than those I had in Greece. I love spanakopita, and this was a whole 'nother level of spanakopita. Not only was the food absolutely fantastic, the service was great and the prices were very reasonable. The guy who runs the place is Bosnian, but all the Bosnian dishes were meat based. The only downside is the beverages. My coffee tasted like it was french vanilla, hazelnut or one of those other horrible flavors. The tea selection was Meijer tea.

Strange place. We didn't have reservations, and were one of only perhaps two couples in the place on a Friday evening. It's one of the few places in the immediate area open past 4 pm. Anyway, we ordered the sampler platter, not reading it all that well since that's what we tend to order when visiting places featuring cultural cuisine. Well, we should have read it, because the sampler was just a sample of meats! The waiter brought out five different kinds of meat from plain old grilled chicken to a ground beef/onion mixture. Some were good, some were barely passable. I couldn't believe the sampler for 2 had nothing but meat. That, and it appeared that our waiter had done all the art for the walls, which was strange doodles of what appeared to be patrons being served strange dishes. I swear one of the drawings appeared to be someone eating a baby.

I have only gone for dinner, and always had great food and well worth what you pay. The pork loin special is always great! Biggest group we have ever had is 4, might be cramped with more than that.

I've been here once and we did have reservations. I was with a group of 10. This restaurant cannot accomodate a group of ten. We had to eat in two groups. It's best to try to eat here for lunch. I don't know how late they are open. Most downtown Lansing businesses close up pretty early. Food was ok. I was there over a year ago and obviously haven't really felt compelled to go back.

I've heard very good things about this restaurant, that the price is reasonable and that the food is tasty. Unfortunately, I cannot say this myself. I've tried to eat there 3 times now, and every time I'm told that I need a reservation. I've tried to call to make a reservation, but they must be extremely busy, because no one has ever answered the phone...

Food: The food at Mediteran is excellent, especially considering the lack of good German food in Lansing. I had the Schnitzel. It wasn't the best schnitzel I've had, but it's up there. Environment: Restaurant is very clean and presented well. The walls are covered with simple cartoons featuring cooks. Some were pretty funny. My only complaint about the environment was the music was pretty lousy. Service: Service was excellent. We went around 6pm. There were about 3 other tables occupied. The waiter served us instantly, did not wait more than 5 minutes for salad and bread, and another 5 for the entree. Other: My biggest complaint is that they don't serve alcoholic beer or wine. I realize this is primarily a lunch place, but I would most certainly come back in the evening with friends for drinks. (You also can't smoke there, another negative for me, but it's the norm now). I think the name of the restaurant is poorly conceived. While there is a fair amount of Greek food on the menu, it's clear that their specialty is not Mediterranean\Middle Eastern food, but Central European and Eastern. I had known about this place for several years but didn't bother going because I had assumed it was Mediterranean. I'll definitely be returning.
