Tasty, hot, and served surprisingly fast. I want to give Los Tres Amigos four stars, but I like two other Mexican restaurants in the Lansing area more. Los Tres Amigos is very affordable, and they serve large portions. The atmosphere is peppy and clean with traditional colorful decor. Steer clear of the "lunch time" margarita if you have something to do that afternoon (especially if you're driving). I only had one, and I was obliterated by 1:15.

Great food. Service is patchy but the staff are friendly and food is delivered hot & fast. I love the Chimichanga. It is really good value.

My favorite nachos ever! They come with shredded chicken on one half and beef on the other and have traditional Mexican cheese on them. The service is always super fast and the value for your money is great.

Officially, I have given up on this place. I remember a day when the service was great and the quality of food was high. Now, it's disgusting, the servers can barely speak English let alone understand it, the drink prices are high too. If you have time to look on here for restaurant reviews- you have time to keep looking for a better restaurant...

I am a big fan of their chile rellanos and think fondly of them for days afterwards. I usually order the carne asada, the shredded beef tacos, and on special occasions, my husband and I order the fajitas for two special. I like their chicken mole very much-- like all the dishes I've had there it is so delicious that I actually dream about it. It reminds me of food I ate in California and Colorado. I know that if we went beyond the basics, we'd like Amigos even more. The service is earnest and efficient. We live just a mile away so we go often enough to be recognized as regulars. We are welcomed and greeted with smiles. There are a few wonderful servers who have a thick accent and when it is really loud in the dining room, they are hard to hear. My husband had a hard time hearing, but I understood just fine since I am used to hearing different accents. And this is one of the nice things about Los Tres Amigos--that the people who work there speak Spanish. So, to avoid the communication problems, we usually go during quieter times, so we can hear better. We like this restaurant a lot and go there often, and we like the staff very much. We would like to hear more about the specials, and about the dishes that they recommend. The menu has variety and we think that the chefs are adventurous and creative. I wish the hardworking waitstaff had more time to proudly represent their food and make more conversation about new things to try. I think that they are too understaffed most of the time to have the luxury to talk more.

My initial perspective from the reviews were mixed. Upon walking in was much improved. Great Ambience, Mexican music playing, 5 flat screen TV's in the bar area. Salsa and chips delivered quickly, and the salsa had a great flavor. That usually means the rest of the good will as well. The waiter was very personable and also had a belief that all their food was good. Ordered the Chili Verde, and while waiting noticed that there were a lot of families. Seems to be a very relaxed inviting environment for kids as well as adults. The food was great. Not very spicy, the pork was fall apart cooked, very tasty. After eating the rest of the food I've decided to lower my rating by 1star- there is some tough meat and gristle still attached. If in this area again I will come back! From Idaho Falls, ID

This place gave me food poisoning twice, and I'm not the only person I know who's had this problem. I've never had any problems at all with the Saginaw location, so go there.

Coming from a place where a Mexican restaurant is a place where for $8 the food is so good you have to stop yourself from eating before you get hurt and wheel out the leftovers for dinner and lunch the next day. That will not happen here. For $10 you will get a small, yet sufficient portion of decent food brought to you by a waiter who doesn't want to be there. I would not go back.

They have added some very nice items to their menu. I tried the Taco De Carnita's which is a slow roasted pork taco. This comes with 3 tacos, pico and a mole sauce which is outstanding. It's about $8.50 and well worth it. This is a must try if you get to Los Tres Amigos.

I can't believe I am giving a Mexican restaurant in Michigan 4 stars....but I was impressed. I'm not easy to impress but when they brought out my Dad's entree, I was impressed. He ordered the "special" which was a huge grilled whole pineapple filled with chicken, beef and shrimp. I didn't have a bite, since I'm a veggie but my Dad loved it. So did my mom. The presentation in the grilled pineapple was really cool. My entree, a shrimp chimicangua, was not so yummy. The shrimp just didn't taste good. And it was beyond fattening. I should of ordered something else. The margaritas were also pretty good and strong. A pitcher among four of us made us much happier then when we entered the restaurant. The ambiance is just a few steps up from taco bell thanks to the table near us having the "his baby's mama" conversation. But overall, it's 4 stars for Michigan.

Love their Quesadilla Rellena - great fast services if you're just popping in for lunch or dinner. Wonderful chips that just keep coming. Staff is fun and welcoming - love that they speak Spanish with you. Their strawberry margaritas are delicious!

Our problem was we were watching Food Network and it was all Mexican. So we're set out to find some relief. I looked at all the reviews and we choose our spot. On Saturday night at 9:00, it was closed. What? So I choose a place a little farther but had dozens of great reviews. I thought better and called to see how late they were open. "We are closed. You are too late." Now we are beginning to think that Lansing closes before 9:00. As we were just passing through on our way back home, we thought it best to just drive and see what we could find. Still, hoping to stop the crave, we stumbled upon Los Tres Amigos. Ta Da!! I could taste it now:-) When we walked inside, I felt a little fear at the standard, over done, mass produced, Mexican decor. It always makes me think that if they throw enough color and Bullfighting pictures in you face, you won't notice the food as much. I held out hope. My husband ordered a Gold Margarita and my mouth was watering. We ate some yummy, hot (nice!) chips and some pretty good salsa (if you like it mild, like I do). Soon they arrived the sweet taste of tequila swimming in my brain. My husband took a sip. His face contorted his lips puckered like a part of his anatomy down south. YUCK!!!! It was in a big ( not Margarita ) glass of plastic bottled Margarita mix from the local drug store. Not a trace of Tequila could be savored. What a waste of calories!!!!!!! Then the food came. That was fast! All three of us had different entrées. It looked like maybe we would enjoy our food enough to forget the drinks. My husband approved the Tacos Carne Esada, our daughter loved her Nachos with Chicken but my spinach and mushroom ( I actually forget what it was supposed to be ) had just three mushroom pieces ( though fresh ) and was stuffed with generic frozen spinach :-/ The rice was nothing special and I assume came from a can or pouch, and the beans, though flavorful must have in some factory as well. Not a hint of a whole bean and would have been suitable for an infant or toothless individual as well. All in all, I would give the whole experience a D+, two tines or in this case, 2 stars. The only lasting impression I took away, was in the bathroom the next morning. I will be happy to get home to our small town, just outside if Indianapolis, where I will truly enjoy REAL Margaritas, and home cooked Mexican food, for half the price.

Food was pretty good, but service wasn't. The manager was our server but he got busy at the cash register so we had to flag down another server to take our order. We also ordered a to go order later which ended up being wrong. When we called we were told to bring it back in. Brought it back and the manager argued with us about whether we ordered beef or chicken. Give me a break! What happened to the customer always being right? If he wasn't so busy at the cash register he might have gotten our to go order correct. Joe's South of the Border in Leslie is much better and only a 10 minute drive.

Service was great. Ask for the spicier sauce which will make for a more enjoyable experience. Being from Texas makes the food here hard to accept but understand the draw if living in Michigan. Food was just not good no matter what state it resides in.

Fast, friendly service. Basic Mexican food, fresh and reasonably priced. Very good salsa.

If you want to go to Los Tres Amigos, do yourself a favor and go to the one on Grand River in East Lansing. My friend and I have been here several times, since it's close to where we live, but ye gods, the service here is absolutely terrible. At least it's consistently terrible, so we have no one to blame but ourselves when our drinks aren't refilled or it takes ten minutes to order. The servers here always seem resentful of your presence while you're here, but maybe that's because of all the loud yokels who seem to gravitate to this place.

So far, the best sit down Mexican I have had in Michigan. Of the 3 places I have been to so far, I definitely like this one the best. Their salsa was yummy, and I love that they have a full, mini lazy susan at each table filled with all different kinds of hot sauce so you can customize the level of spiciness for tortilla chip dipping pleasure. I ordered the taco salad, which was the perfect size for the price, not a ginormous bowl like some places put in front of you. The flavors melded well, and everyone else at the table seemed please with their burritos and fajitas.

We have been here several times while in town visiting my parents. Food has always been good, reasonably priced and generously portioned. Waitstaff is friendly and authentically Mexican. There was a hot chyck bar tending when we were there most recently.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
