Look. I get it. I really do. It's not "authentic" in the traditional sense of the word. It's not particularly "healthful" or...um... "good," either. But I don't particularly care. There are times in a person's life where you just want over-cheesed, Americanized, salty "Mexican" food and a neon-colored margarita the size of your head. And when that time comes, nobody does it better than La Señorita. Seriously. With a bar on one side and a restaurant on the other, I'm a fan of the bar side. Free nacho bar, amirite? Service is consistently good, they can accommodate vegetarian requests well, and honestly, there's just something about this place. It's kitschy and you'll probably get a Mexican flag toothpick in your entree, and it's just got a sort of charm to it. It's comfort food in a comfortable place. Don't come in expecting mind-blowing Mexican cuisine. See it for what it is, and enjoy it.

Our server only took notice of us when we had originally sat down and ordered our drinks... then she ignored us. She spent a lot of time at the table next to us, then just chatted with another worker. We were in a hard to see area, so we kept peeking out at her to let her know we were ready to order, and she STILL didn't come. After waiting for another 10-15 minutes, we had enough and moved to a different section. Our new server was awesome. She was very prompt and on top of things. Unfortunately the food was still lackluster and not worth the money. Also, the manager came out to apologize for how we were treated in our previous section, but he didn't do anything about it. Also, the old server did make a point to walk past us and scowl. How cute.

La Senorita, you're what the Spaniards call "El Terrible". Eerily quiet and empty, I should have known better. I've heard nothing but bad things about La Senorita, but my standards for Mexican food are fairly low, so I gave it a shot due to it's proximity to work. The service made me feel like a nuisance. The server and bartender had absolutely no pizzazz or oomph, and never offered a smile. All of our meals were, basically, a concoction of borderline cold, greasy, bagged tortilla chips, canned refried beans, and brown lettuce. The portions were large, the price was average, and the quality was garbage. The worst Mexican dining experience in at least 1,500 miles (see Rubio's in Salt Lake City...).

Great food, awesome service. The raspberry margarita was soooo delicious. Overall great experience.

Seriously, the worst place. Everything is terrible- even the salsa. The queso is velvetta and salsa. Save yourself. Don't waste your time.

La Señorita is ok, nothing special at all. The server was pleasant. The food took way too long to arrive and the server was apologetic about it saying a cook had fallen asleep in the kitchen. It had been several years since I had eaten at La Señorita and it probably will be several more before I return.

I can't even understand how this place got a single bad review. I don't always want "authentic" Mexican because I hate cilantro and the authentic places overuse cilantro. Anyway we ate here for the first time last Saturday. Odd since we live very close. While being seated our waitress asked if we were familiar with the menu and we said no, this was our first time here. So she explained everything nicely and in detail. During our meal the manager came out and spoke to us, and offered us free dessert since it was our first visit! The food was delicious, but I gave this place 5 stars because their customer service is amazing. We will absolutely be back. Oh, and just a side note. The fried ice cream is the good kind, the kind covered in crushed graham cracker instead of the nasty kind that uses corn flakes. So glad we found this place for that reason alone!

Just awful. I almost pushed this to two stars because the server was nice and did the best she could with a large group on her own, but the food just can't be overlooked. Expect to pay more than average in the area for very small portions of extremely bland food. Whoever they had in the kitchen had probably been fired from a taco bell for producing bad unseasoned food. They couldn't even manage to make decent chips and salsa (I've never had store bought salsa that was that boring and watery), and the "sour cream" on my dish had the consistency of cold butter. I don't know what it actually was, but it was a cold, solid quarter inch thick layer. The beans and the rice were the standouts of the meal, and those were only really edible after a dousing in hot sauce. I didn't go in to this expecting much, figuring I'd have some generic tex-mex while celebrating with a friend, but the large almost completely empty restaurant should have been a sign for me to order a beer and skip the food.

Went here on Cinco de Mayo, supposedly to meet up with some friends. By the time we were on our way we got a strange message about how everyone was getting tired and going home early. This was about 9 pm. Whatever, we head up to La Senorita, order us some Margaritas and food, and ate a bite. Or three, or four, or thirty. It's just a ton of food, and by the time we were done we felt bloated, and oddly tired. 10 pm on May 5th, and we had to pack it up. The Margaritas had almost no alcohol, musta been sleeping pill night.

We got the appetizer platter and ventured over to the chips and salsa bar. Well, this is a one star review, so don't expect anything nice here. I will say that our server was nice, but not the greatest. Ok, so you are a Mexican restaurant. In my mind, you have ONE job. That job is good chips and salsa. Pre-made garbage chips from some giant box store and Pace doesn't cut it. I can't even put in to words how terrible that crap was. This is the basis of being a Mexican establishment. I am not sure if they were stale or just terrible. Gross. The appetizer platter was anything but flattering. I mean, I realize we didn't order your traditional Mexican style food for the most part, but c'mon. I am not sure what those egg roll type things were, but...well...what the heck was I eating? Haha. Anyways, I imagine this place gets a lot of traffic from the hotels and what not. Dear travelers, beware. I am not sure I would go there for a beer. Sorry crew, you could do much much much better.

The place is great to have a few margaritas and a burrito. Had their special wet burrito which was made with pork con chili verde with rice and fried beans. It was delicious! Highly recommend it when you don't know what to get! The bar area is the way to go, don't know about main dining room.

Don't expect good service if you come with a large group. Everyone from the server to the manager made us feel like an inconvenience and the service was horrible!

Ok nothing special food was fast but bland not much flavor. Drinks were good and good price.

We stopped at LaSeñorita Mexican Restaurant for lunch at 12:45. They were not real busy but service was slow. There was one person doubling as the bar tender and waiter. Took awhile to get our basic drinks. What surprised both of us the the country music playing. Don't get us wrong, we like country music but in a Mexican restaurant? Seems like it was out of place. Food came out and it was fine. Our waiter never came back to offer refills, most likely because he was the only one working, serving 20 tables and taking drink orders. If management can't afford to hire more help, then get off your stool and help out! Probably would not go back and again, not our servers problem.

We went here after my brothers graduation and I have to say everything was excellent! There was a slight wait but that didn't bother us. I love the fresh chips they serve when you get seated and they give 3 different kinds of salsas, the green one is my favorite! We were a pretty are group but our waitress was really good and quick. The food was delicious, much better than any other Mexican restaurant I've been too and it's not too expensive. Great atmosphere. I wish I lived much closer or else I would be here every week!!

Was hoping a ZERO star entry was possible. As we entered this place, I warned my friends that "I never go anywhere without checking YELP first!!!"....then I checked and prepared myself and others to be disappointed. 15 minutes later, the Ice Tea was "still brewing". Then the soups, Carnitas, and quesadillas came....the soup was so cool, the cheese wouldn't melt....the Corn tortillas that accompanied the Carnitas were cold to the touch and flotating in some sort of grease/lard/oil that required me to scour my hands. Right to the Manager who I advised we were leaving and not paying for anything but the Margarita I had....he failed to appear shocked, and agreed to cover the Margarita....sadly, I'm guessing he has the conversation a few times a day.

I visited La Señorita years ago and didn't care for it. When a friend told me it's her favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, I thought I'd give it another try. Perhaps they'd made changes. Well, there were no changes and as much as I love my friend, she apparently has horrible taste in Mexican food. The chips were fine, but the salsa... We asked for three varieties - chunky, extra hot, and green - and the green came with a bonus eyelash floating in it. Admittedly that's a rough start to recover from, but the food was just plain bland. My companion had the chicken enchiladas, the dish by which he judges all Mexican restaurants, and didn't bother finishing most of it. I ordered a plate that came with a taco, a tamale, and an enchilada. I left most of it behind as well. It's like they ran out of cilantro, chili powder, cumin, and garlic (you know, the stuff that makes Mexican food taste Mexican) and added extra grease and cheese to make up for it. The only reason this place is getting two stars is that the service was very prompt. Our waitress was in training and did still a great job bringing the mushy, tasteless food out to us and keeping our glasses full. If you're looking for good Mexican food in the Lansing area, look elsewhere. And if you find it, let me know where it is...gotten my heart broken in a number of Mexican spots recently!

Extremely slow service and poorly made good. Enough said.

Very Americanized Mexican food. Some unique dishes like spinach mushroom quesadillas sound promising but are poorly executed. Typical gray lard bean mash, lackluster rice and bland salsa. But the real kicker is the poor service. There are very few restaurants in Lansing that offer good Mexican food. La Señorita is not one of those establishments.

Decent prices, good, quick service and they give you free chips and salsa! The salsas are really good too! The food is pretty good and they have fried ice cream! Something I had a hard time finding around here. I know the other views on here arent so good but give it a chance sometime for a cocktail, dessert or a quick bite to eat before or after a movie or something.

Went here at around 9 pm on a Sunday night. The parking lot has very little light, so if your a woman by yourself, carry some pepper spray or something... We went in, and were immediately confused as to where to go. The bar is to the right, and you have to walk down a hallway to get to the restaurant part. So we headed down the hallway, and a guy stopped us and told us the restaurant part was closed, and directed us to sit in the bar section. He took our drink order, then said to help ourselves to the tortilla chip bar . We thought it was a little odd to have to get our own chips and salsa, but whatever. It took about 15 mins for our waitress to come over and take our order. We both ordered wet burritos and wanted a tiny little cup of sour cream with them. She told us it was a little bit extra for the sour cream. So we thought ok, that's fine. The food came out quick, and tasted pretty good. We got the bill, and added it all up. Turns out, the tiny cups of sour cream were a little over a dollar! For what amounted to a table spoon of sour cream. Really? Is the stuff made from rare cow's milk? I don't think so... We might go back in the daytime, and we definitely won't be ordering sour cream with anything. We might as well bring our own.

Sometimes when I am traveling and I don't have my girlfriend to act as the voice of reason, I make bad decisions. Eating at La Senorita was just that. As someone who lives in California and is not very enthusiastic about Mexican joints outside of Mexico (aside from El Toyanense), I should know better than to opt for Mexican joints, but unfortunately, I am a bit lazy at times. The proximity of the restaurant sold me on having a quick dinner there. To my great shame, that same fact drew me to it the second time too. After both experiences, I can say the place is consistent. Ambiance (3): There must be a catalog for cheesy Mexican restaurant décor down to the floral shirts. I don't need to go into details about that, but suffice it to say that the amount of cheese in décor was a sign of things to come. This restaurant is split into a sit down section and a bar section, which also has tables but is much louder and better lit. The restaurant side is a bit dark despite all the windows, but it also didn't have the thermostat at 50 so I chose that area. Food (1): First trip I went with a colleague. Let's start with the old Mexican restaurant standby, chips and salsa...being able to gorge yourself on chips and salsa while you wait for your food is one of the perks of eating Mexican. Unfortunately, the salsa was straight out of the cheapest jar/can they could find with absolutely no flavor and watery as can be. This might be the worst salsa I have ever had inside or even outside a Mex restaurant. This should have been a tipoff that there were going to be other items being put on the table that are probably available at whatever the cheaper version of Costco is. For an entrée I had carnitas tacos with some kind of cheesy sauce and they felt the need to put a skewer through the tops of the tortillas for presentation purposes I guess. This I find ridiculous. One thing is to have some decorative fruit or veggies that are technically edible but you might want to avoid, but some genius thought, 'Hey, these tacos are missing something...let's add a skewer! No, not a skewer with actual food on it, just a stick that pierces all the tacos. Genius!' The taste was bland except for the cheese which seemed to be carrying the plate. Taco Bell has better tacos (gasp!). My colleague had the flautas. Now, when I think flautas, I picture tightly wrapped tortillas with beef or chicken in the center that are deep-fried and are the best vehicle for ingesting sour cream (sorry baked potato). Never in my years of eating flautas (even when labeled taquitos) have I seen such an absolute mockery of what a real flauta is. These things were pretty much chimichangas with chicken and cheese (of course) cut up for dunking into sauce. The worst part was that they tasted like those frozen burritos you nuked in the 90s and the Mexican cafeteria food you had at some point in high school. There have been advances in the frozen food section, so technically these "flautas" tasted worse than present day frozen Mexican food. I kid you not, these were not only a blasphemy to flautas religion, these things tasted like they came straight out of whatever level of quality is below giant bags of frozen Mexican food sold at Costco. Second trip, I went solo and had a steak and shrimp skewer plate. The shrimp was rubbery and I was reminded of the frozen food from the last time. If mankind has figured out how to produce fake shrimp out of recycled goods, the prototypes landed on my plate that day. The steak was ok, not cooked to my specs and smothered in (you guessed it) cheese. I might have to revise my notes on Mexican culture as I might have to add a note on their obsession with melted NON-MEXICAN cheese. You sir are no asadero. I think this restaurant went 2 for 2 in the food department in terms of a) melted cheese doing all the flavor legwork, b) food that lacked a soul. Service (3): Friendly enough, food came out quickly, nothing to complain about. Value (2-3): If this restaurant is fueled by the frozen food section, the value is 2. If they actually make this stuff in the back, the value is 3. Overall: I am not kidding when I say this food just had no soul. The restaurant had no soul. The sign out front, now that had soul, but that didn't make it inside the building. The whole flauta thing was the worst by far, and the sins of cheese-do-all-the-work just compounded it. I think I actually walked away depressed from the restaurant (twice). Alas, you have to live with the consequences of your decisions.

I went on dollar margarita night so that was a plus! The food wasn't very hot (temperature, not spice) and it was okay but not great. I wouldn't eat here again unless I was thirsty for a $1.00 margarita.

This is an old stand by for me. I skip the normal salsa and go for the "green" which is tomatilla salsa which is made on site except for the seasoning which, I'm told, comes pre-mixed. I enjoy the salsa so much I've tried making my own but I've never quite mastered the taste of La Sen's version. The green is supposed to be the mild, but I find it a tad zingier than their normal red and the spicy red isn't that spicy. As for main course, I tend to go for the quesadilla which rarely let me down. Occasionally if the person I'm with orders somehting more involved the bottom of my order will get a bit soft but generally they layer them on top of lettuce to keep em crunchy. Overall it's a relatively cheap place for food, I never go in with high expectations and I tend to get what I expect. I've had a couple of bad meals (very blah sopa-de-fideo, drenched wet burrito with rubbery shell, etc) but when I want something different I tactfully ask "how the soup is" or for the burrito to get a second or two on the grill to make it crunchy under the sauce and they've always been agreeable.

It's a chain, but decent. We went on a Friday night, so it was very busy. We sat in the cantina. I don't think the waitstaff in the cantina is as attentive as in the regular dining area. But overall, a pleasant experience.

This is a terrible place to eat. My family recently used their banquet room for a retirement party. The wait service was barely competent. The tortilla chips were stale and the salsa tasted like they had bought cheap bottled salsa at walmart. I ordered an iced tea, and I am pretty sure they used some kind of instant powder, heavy on the water. Then our food came. My rice was dry and over done, my beans were liquid goo with hairs in them. The fajita steak tasted like body odor and bad feet. last, when my brothers and I tried to split the check to pay for our dad's dinner (who was the guest of honor), the staff -including the manager- gave us a terrible time. They looked like they were asked to split an atom. I finally had to tell them what the bill would be in thirds. Maybe if enough people stop going there, they'll have to either improve or shut down. Either way, lansing would be better off.

I tend to rate my Mexican restaurants by the quality of the margaritas and chips. Unfortunately, La Senorita doesn't quite make the grade. The flavored margaritas were disappointing and the food was mediocre. The location is convenient, which is probably what has kept it alive and well all this time. I would avoid the temptation and hit one of the 'factory restaurants' at the Eastwood Mall across the street before going to this place again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
