Went here for the first time and all I can say is that the food is GREAT! Great service and very friendly workers! I'll definitely come back.

I used to be a regular here. It's close to work and I often ordered take out. I don't usually stray from three veggie tacos. I was very disappointed today. I asked for 3 beans and veggie tacos take out. I had to specify no rice because they normally have rice in the veggie tacos. When I received them, they were all smushed together in ton foil which kept the moisture inside. Very messy. Also, there were no limes. They used to give limes for tacos. The beans were cold. This is the second bad experience in a row. I did notice they were pretty busy with customers dining in, but they could have put more effort into the take out order.

Best little Mexican restaurant in Kalamazoo! It isn't much to look at, but the food is fantastic for the price. Can't beat it anywhere. Highly recommend the Chicken Wet Burrito. ;]

One of my favorite restaurants in Kalamazoo. I've always had a good experience with anything that I've tried. My go to is the taco bar that they have on the weekends. You have choose corn or flour tortillas. Or if you're feeling like "Americanizing" your meal, they offer hard shells. With a spread of carne asada, chicken, chorizo, or ground beef you can't go wrong. They also have a variety of toppings but I stick to cilantro, onions, limes, and salsa. I read a comment about them not serving limes, you just have to ask. Within the past year lime prices skyrocketed so they've been a bit conservative with those like most Mexican joints feeling the effect of increased prices. If you can't make it to the taco bar, I'd suggest bistec con rajas, torta, gordita, and enchiladas. They often have horchata(rice water), hibiscus juice, and tamarind juice. Oh yeah, they have taco Tuesdays. 99 cent tacos on Tuesdays. Enough said. My only knock would be the oft inconsistent servers. They have a couple that are solid but some new ones naturally need more training.

Tucked away in an unassuming strip mall is a gem of good, hearty Mexican food. The staff is friendly and personable, the portions are plentifully and tasty, and the prices are very reasonable. This is not a fancy restaurant by any means so the so-called "foodie" crowd may not be enthralled but rather a place you'd expect to see featured on the food networks Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Though not extravagant, this understated but attractively presented restaurant offers good food in a comfortable setting at a reasonable price. You can dive into "typical" Mexican fare such as tacos, burritos, and enchiladas- all of which are tasty for sure, or branch out to some more adventurous items such as chicken mole or campachana- a seafood cocktail featuring shrimp and squid in a tangy tomato sauce. Worth a visit for the Mexican food lover.

Amazing and authentic. My new favorite Mexican restaurant. The enchilada sincronizada was outstanding! The staff also seem to be genuinely good people. I highly recommend it.

We live within 4 miles and somehow haven't tried this place until today. The family and I were in the mood for Mexican food for lunch, and normally, we'd go to Battle Creek for Nina's. This time we decided to try a new place. We ordered chips, salsa, and guacamole as appetizers. Both the salsa and the guacamole were clearly made with fresh ingredients and tasted great. A mistake was made when the entrees arrived, but was very quickly resolved by the wait staff (my daughter ordered cheese quesadilla and they sent chicken by mistake), who brought another one. The entrees were extremely generous in size. I had the carne asada, my wife had a tostada, my other daughter opted for the taco bar. The bill came to $31.20 with tax for the four of us, which is pretty reasonable. Everything was fantastic and better than Nina's in our opinion the (and so much closer). We've found our new "Go To" place for Mexican food.

tried this place the other day for the heck of it and was not overly impressed. Service was not particularly great and for what we received, i do not consider this place much of a value. they brought out chips & something that attempted to pass for salsa. The salsa was supposedly "homemade" but had the consistency of water and almost no vegetable content. I had the chicken fajitas which were OK, but sadly, i can say that i make better fajitas at home. I will likely not return here and probably wouldn't recommend stopping here to anyone i know.

Mi Pueblo is a small and authentic Mexican restaurant. I grew up in Southern California, and this place is the real deal. Their guacamole is the best in town, and is similar to the 'table-side guacamole' at Casa Bolero... but at a fraction of the price. This isn't fine dining, but it's *good* dining. They recently renovated their restaurant (September 2010), and it looks much, much better. I love going for lunch because the service is quick and food is a steal for the quality and authenticity. The quesadillas are a particular favorite of mine. They also have agua de horchata, and it is an absolute treat. It is supplied from the La Mexicana market on Portage St. It's made with rice milk, cinnamon, and what is likely heavy cream. It's very rich, like a cinnamon-flavored milkshake. It's definitely high on calories, but also high on deliciousness.

At first glance, this place looks like a hole in the wall in a rather ghetto looking strip mall. However, if we are to be honest, who has had really good Mexican food from any place but a hole in the wall? The good stuff is always tucked away somewhere; Mexican town in Detroit being a prime example. The service is, as most people have already mentioned, a little on the slow side, and one is likely to observe the waitress enjoying some Mexican soap operas. All that said, I must say that the food is worth it. All the bold flavors that one wants and expects in Mexican food is here, which is more than I can say for all the other Mexican restaurants I have tried in Kzoo, Portage and Battle Creek. I highly recommend the gordita. Get it with the chorizo, as the flavors from the meat are amazing. It is packed full of meat, veggies, cheese, and fresh avocado. It is so flavorful and delicious. Note that it does not come with any sides, but it is really big, so sides are not really needed. It makes for an extremely cheap and scrumptious meal. I'm not sure how the salsa managed to get negative feedback, as my husband and I thought it was one of the best salsas we have ever tasted. In fact, we asked if they would sell us any, and they gave us a rather large portion of it for around $5. $5 is incredibly cheap for the portion they gave us, and it is so much better than anything I have found in the stores. My husband and I have tried just about every brand that the regular grocery store chains sell, as we are big fans of chips and salsa. I will say that the rice is not the best. It has canned peas in it, which creeps me out. If you are not opposed to canned peas, then the flavors are good. I just get turned off by the weird discoloration. Overall, I will say that I highly recommend Mi Pueblo. There are so many Mexican restaurants out there serving poor quality, bland Mexican food, but this is not one of them. It is a diamond in the rough.

Really good and authentic Mexican. Chiles Rellenos were outstanding and the services was great. Try the green chili salsa with the chips, it's a lot hotter!

BAD FAMILY OWNED restaurant An unfortunate experience -- Friday (prime dinner time - 7PM) -- very few customers (less than 15 % of the tables), should have been a clue at first glance.Off to bad start: we requested a clean table with a snotty and reluctant reply from the wait staff, followed by 10 minutes of wait until the menu arrived. As we waited to place our order, we watched the wait staff watch a soap opera on a wide screen TV. Conclusion: the wait staff never assisted the table again except to tell us that we needed to pick up our check at the front counter. Upon check out, we made the discovery that they overcharged us by double -- no excuse, at that point only 2 other families were in the restaurant. Decor: Met expectations of family owned: home made and quaint. Food: Wonderful handmade chips arrived with some watered down salsa; food arrived quickly (that's the good news) but, nothing special, go to Qudoba for a better Taco Salad.

I have eaten there three times. If you are not in a hurry (and you shouldn't be if going to eat more authentic Mexican food) this is a nice, more accurate Mexican place than Qdoba. And I liked their salsa. With free salsa refills. Generous burritos. Trust the first reviewer, not the one star type. Remember you enter what our friend who is Hispanic calls "Mexican time" and expect to take it slower than at a fast food type joint. But if you are after authentic food it is worth it.

We've been to here several times as it is close to our home. This started off as a great place but as the years went on it has really gone downhill. On the weekends they now have a "taco-bar" for 6.99. This was the saddest taco bar ever. There is a choice of hard or soft taco's, chicken or beef, lettuce, pico de gallo and red or green sauce. No cheese, no guac. It was sparse to say the least. The service was spotty at best, with one young boy in the kitchen and one young girl working the floor/register.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
