Mat's has a great lunch and catering menu. Gotta get the pulled pork for lunch if you go and don't forget to top it off with his special sauce. Had his catered breakfast twice now. Awesome presentation and the fresh produce was perfect. A definite "pro to go", wherever you need him.

Out of the three employees encountered on a first recent visit only one seemed to have a positive attitude towards customers which weren't 'regulars', not exactly a friendly welcoming atmosphere to invite people back. To review BBQ is a very subjective concept as tastes vary by location but our party thought the pulled pork panini was dry, the cole slaw was lacking flavor, and the macaroni and cheese was overcooked to the point where the pasta had hardened. However, the portions were reasonably sized to large and the potato stuffed with pulled pork was great. Overall, a C+ I suppose. Definitely did not live up to lofty expectations as "the best pulled pork in Jackson".

Mat's is my favorite lunch in jackson, bar none. Prices are very reasonable, service is fast even when they're busy (and they usually are!) and everything I've had has been spectacular. And I should mention that I am rarely impressed by most restaurants... The ambiance is pleasant, and gives a classy yet casual vibe rarely found in Jackson. My only complaint is that they are only open for lunch, and I think they're closed on saturday.

I first came to Mat's in 2004, and I had been surprised by this hidden gem. This past week I 'rediscovered' Mat's when a friend suggested that we meet here for lunch. It is right downtown, and is the perfect place for business lunches, or to get takeout or sit-in and read a paper. Mat's menu has a large variety of items for a place its size, but that doesn't take away from the freshness or deliciousness of the selections. Soups, salads, sandwiches and paninis all look great, but I've always went with a panini. The service was slow which, for a place like Mat's, isn't surprising given the deliciousness of the food. Despite this, All my interactions with the staff were very pleasant. I'll definitely come back, and next time I am doing the BBQ.

I'd like to start with, "Yum!" Mat's bbq sauce in delicious and I highly recommend his stuffed potatoes. They are piled high with all sorts of great stuff that is sure to clog your arteries, but at the time, worth every bite. Your choice of BBQ meat, cheese, sour cream, onions.........definitely not something you'd want to indulge in on a regular basis. Of course there are healthier options too. His salads are huge, green, and topped with dried cherries, blue cheese, and your choice of dressing. The atmosphere is wonderful. Mat always has a huge smile on his face and a welcoming personality. I can't say enough great things about Mat's Cafe. If you like BBQ and want a great local place to eat at, try it!

Best salads in town. I have never had a bad meal here. Clean, great location and very nice people. The Cuban sandwich is a favorite, too.

Love the BBQ here!!! Everything always tastes soooo good. A unique thing is there hot peppers bar which allows you to personally spice up ur pulled pork or chicken. The red cherry pepper is my favorite. Come early for lunch or you will be waiting because it is popular.

I went to Mat's last week for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. It's located in downtown Jackson, and can be considered a hole in the wall. They serve BBQ, pulled pork, chicken, beef brisket, mac and cheese, etc. Very good menu with all the BBQ basics. No alcohol, but plenty other drinks. I had the beef brisket lunch special and chose the mac and cheese. It had very good flavor, and the portion size was big enough. The atmosphere and restaurant are casual, and they had a good lunch crowd. You order at the counter, and they bring the order to your table. Overall this is a great lunch and dinner spot for BBQ. I will be back to try some different items.
