This is one of the best bars to go to in the area. Great patio that over looks the water. Drinks are reasonably priced too. Depending on when you go there may be lots of college kids or just a few. The wings are alright, cheap and I'm told the only decent ones in the area. Don't order the Asian flavored ones, they sorta taste like a cheap orange/sesame chicken sauce from a bottle, but I thought the dry rub and mild ones were okay.

Great view of the bridge, and one of the only outdoor dining options in the Copper Country. What is going on in this neck of the woods, never heard of outdoor seating? The food is really substandard. For example, salads are iceberg with cheese bits sprinkled on top. Go for the view, have a drink, and eat elsewhere. When its sunny, there are only 2 umbrellas and the rest of the deck is totally exposed to the sun.

The bar is large and we ordered Bloody Mary which were average in taste the waitress was very nice and was friendly and personable we enjoyed the time there very much and actually went back in later after dinner !

The Downtowner Lounge is a good bar to stop at in the Houghton area. On a recent visit, I went here for drinks and dinner one night. There is a great patio outside (if the weather behaves, which unfortunately it didn't for us). There's a good assortment of drinks priced well. The food is also good, although not something that I would be rushing back for. If I find myself in the area for drinks and am hungry, I would order food, but wouldn't come here only for the food. Overall, this is definitely a place I stop at every time I am in Houghton, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

The food was mediocre at best! The service was atrocious. Our food took over an hour, with no explanation or apology. Our server was rarely on the floor. We ate on the outdoor deck. When I went to use the restroom, she was standing at the service bar inside. A burger, two chicken sandwiches, and a salad wouldn't take an hour if you cooked them 3 times over! Avoid at all costs, if you're looking for a bite to eat. The bartenders were on point though.

Looks like any other bar & grill at the end of the business district, but it's a nice restaurant inside. They have great burgers, comparable to the large patties & loaded like the ones you might get at popular chains like Chili's or TGI Friday's. Their chicken strips are great too. On a warm summer day, though too few in these parts, you can go eat on their huge outdoor patio, complete with fake palm trees, and get a great view of the lake and the Houghton-Hancock bridge over Lake Superior. On most days it seems nice to eat outside but it's just too windy to enjoy it. And if you have leftovers, seagulls are standing by awaiting your donation...

The Downtowner (DT) is an amazing bar and it is by far one of my favorites. The views off of the patio of the portage are unmatched The beer selection is good and the bartenders make great shots and mixed drinks. The beverage prices are ridiculously cheap and of fairly high quality. In regards to the menu, the DT offers some of the best bar food known to man, including some of the best hot wings, mozzarella sticks, fries, and burgers. I would have to say that the DT hot wings are some of the best that I have ever had and should definitely not be missed. The menu isn't the best if you're looking for healthy or vegetarian options, but they taste amazing and like the drinks they are priced low. If you're looking for drink specials, Thursday is the day to go. They serve personal pitchers of long island ice tea (and other tasty varieties) for $7.50. These are not for the weak at heart and have the tendency to sneak up on anyone who doesn't expect how alcoholic they actually are. Thursday also features discounted wings, which is another plus. Get there early, especially if MTU is in session, because the tables fill up fast!

Meh. It's a normal little bar. I like Houghton- it's a relaxed area and the location is just the cutest...it's a nice college town. I came here on a Sunday during football time with drunken patrons. I ordered the chili along with a mushroom burger. The chili was good...had chunks of celery which is new to me but I liked it! The burger was delish and the buns were fantastic. Idk what it is about the buns but they're super good.

2 for 1 bottles Happy Hour! 2 for 1 bottles Happy Hour! 2 for 1 bottles Happy Hour! This was a our rally call as we got closer and closer to Houghton. It served as our motivation to get into the UP on schedule. Luckily, we made it into the city right on time. Some of us didn't check in right away, instead we went right over the Downtowner. Our group of 34 bikers wasn't going to miss out on this drink special! Upon entering the bar, it looks like your typical bar with a long bar and tables lining the wall. It seemed like every other bar I've been to in the Midwest especially in a college town. However, this bar earns extra stars for its beautiful patio. The patio is gorgeous with views overlooking the water and a nearby bridge. It was great to sit down on a gorgeous summer day on the patio. Drinking 2 for 1 bottles sure didn't hurt either. We sat for a few hours soaking up the remaining sun and sunset enjoying the view and brews. The Downtowner's a nice, laid back bar to enjoy some tasty brews in Houghton.

Surprisingly kickass, meaty wings! I always order the wings extra crispy with the sweet Thai chili sauce and they are fantastic. Sometimes the service really lacks in promptness when they get busy, due to understaffing servers and kitchen help. But, it's tasty bar food. Plus, eating and drinking on the deck with nice weather makes for a good time when it's not too windy out.

We moved to the area this summer after visiting a few times over the years. We've been trying all the different restaurants in town trying to find a few favorites. This is NOT one. My husband and I were seated on the upper deck on a Thursday evening and ordered drinks once a waitress sauntered by--half an hour later we got them. We ordered dinner--my husband had a burger and fries, I had a reuben and fries. His came after about 45 minutes, my order was lost. Another 40 minutes later, I got my food--thoroughly grease-soaked and bland. Clearly, the huge drinks were popular (in blue) as all the college kids were drinking them. I may go back just once more to enjoy the outdoor seating (which is rare here), but, honestly, there are several better places to eat in town.

We were driving back to Illinois from Isle Royale and were looking for a quick bite. We saw the decent reviews on Yelp for Downtowner (before ours) and decided to check it out. The experience started off great. We got seats on the patio with a gorgeous view of the river. Unfortunately, this is about the only positive aspect of the experience. The menu was lacking in options. All of the appetizers were fried and they had no vegetarian options (not that we cared but it was odd). We ordered mozzarella sticks, two burgers, and the Tom Sr's Torpedo sandwich. The mozzarella sticks were from the microwave. The burgers were very greasy. The ketchup was fermented and did not taste any good. The onion rings were soggy. Bottom line: We enjoyed the view and the drinks, but wouldn't come back for the food.

This college bar/grill will surprise you with their great food. I love Tom's Torpedo and the wait staff is always very accommodating if you want to substitute for anything. The "DT" as the locals call it is by far the best place in town for lunch or a drink during a nice day in the summer. If you are looking for nightlife this is also the college hangout. If you go, go early as it is wall to wall people after midnight Thursday -Saturday during the school year. The bartenders are always awesome and will give your drink a little bump if you tip well (doesn't take much in Houghton) and develop a little rapport. The only negative is that they will take credit cards for drinks but they have a $15 min. You can get around it if you order food or apps. If you are thirsty in the Keweenaw this is a must stop.

I love this place for lunch. I always get a chicken club sandwich and between that and the fries with ranch it is just amazing. The burgers are also really big and really good. Service is usually good. This is also the place to go at night but it's usually way to packed for me. If you can get there early and get a booth out on the deck your set for the rest of the night.

Fun-dive bar. Open late! Cheap drinks. The patio out back is so much fun in the summer. This place gets packed with the college crowd.
