Great authentic food, and margaritas. Although, sometimes a little inconsistent. Great service and quick too!

My wife was craving some shrimp coctel so i went on the hunt for it. Decided to go here and also got a medium horchata. It was very pricy almost $30 just for this and got like 5 shrimps on it. Was very disappointed.

Granted we come around 6:30pm, meaning they were super busy, but waiting 45 minutes after we order our food is ridiculous. We didnt even have silverware. The tortillas were soggy and the food was on the cold side. Normally i love this place but this time it wasnt so pleasant.

Ordered the taco salad. Average at best. The shell was small, not much taste. I've had much better taco salads at other non Mexican places.

Always good food, good atmosphere, and great margaritas. This particular El Rancho has an amazing staff.

As far as I am concerned, this is the best Mexican food in Holland. I think their 16th street location is even better

This place has great drinks! However, authentic Mexican food? No way. This is Americanized Mexican food at best. There is nothing authentic about their food. The rice isn't good at all. I'm sure the beans are canned refried beans. Nothing taste fresh. This is just another case of "mainstream" on the border food product.

The salsa was good, although I believe that a Mexican restaurant should have good salsa by default. I cannot give it better, the fajitas had no flavor at all. I don't think they even added salt to the beef. It was terrible. I ordered the combo plate with a chili relleno, enchilada and burrito. The chili was almost slimy, the ground beef in the burrito had no seasoning and the enchilada was bland. The food tasted like American-ized Mexican food trying to be Mexican food. I would prefer one or the other but the this conglomeration was terrible. I think the rating is deceptive. This restaurant was not worth our time or money.

I like a chunky salsa with a nice balance of heat, sweet and zesty; I enjoyed theirs (as did my white shirt). It went well with the tasty margaritas and chips. For entrees we had Carne Asada; the meat could have been more tender, but the onions, guacamole and frijoles de la olla were excellent and more than made up for it, the rice was not the usual ubiquitous Spanish junk, it was light on the tomato with bits of corn, peas and green beans in it, and the Burrito Jalisco... couldn't believe the amount of shrimp in it. A white cheese sauce with grilled pineapple topped it off just right. We have a thing for horchata (Mexican rice milk drink with a touch of cinnamon and sugar). Few places put it on the menu, so we usually ask... they brought us two huge frosty mugs of it! Had an interesting conversation with one of the waiters who was surprised to see us drinking it (we are VERY gringo looking). Being authentic Dutch and not having been to a ranchita, I am unable to state this is or is not "authentic" Mexican food. I do know that our entire meal was delicious, while the service was engaging and attentive! We dined at the 16th street location and will be back for more.

A complete disappointment on all levels. I called in and ordered a fish taco meal to go. I asked the man that answered the phone if the meal came with chips and salsa and he said no it did not so I told him to add a small order of chips and salsa to my order. While I was talking to him I was having trouble understanding him due to his heavy accent. I have nothing against people from other countries and really enjoy their company since there's so much you can learn from them if you're like most Americans and don't travel internationally. However, in a business environment I do feel strongly that if an employee has a real heavy accent or has limited English speaking skills that makes it hard for customers to understand them then they should not be in a position where they have to interact with customers during the order taking process. When I arrived the young lady in front at the cash register asked me what I'd ordered and I told her a fish meal with a small order of chips and salsa. She said something about the meal and chips and salsa and I didn't quite catch what she was saying so I told her that the man who took my order told me when I asked if the fish taco meal came with chips and salsa he said no it didn't so I ordered it as a side item. She looked a little confused and went over and talked to a man who seemed to be familiar with my order. They were out of the range where I could hear them so I can't say what they were saying to each other. The same man brought out a good sized bag pretty full and the young lady I'd talked to rang it up and gave me the total of around $14.55 . That total seemed a little high so I asked her if that was for one fish taco meal and the side of chips and salsa and she said yes so I paid for it and left for home. When I got home I discovered that there were in fact 2 good sized orders of chips and salsa in the bag. The problem with that is it leads me to wonder if I was charged for an extra order of that when I'd been specifically told that the meal didn't come with them so that's the only reason I ordered the side of chips and salsa. Maybe it was just a case of miscommunication between me and the guy that took my order, but if that's the case then it proves my point about only people who can speak clear English should be allowed to interact with customers when their orders are being placed. On the other hand I was specifically told that the meal did not come with any chips and salsa and then when I told the girl at the cash register she seemed confused by the side order of chips and salsa until she went and talked to the guy who seemed to be familiar with my order so that leaves me wondering if the man told me erroneous information on purpose just to increase the total on the ticket by $4 or so and told the young lady to keep quiet and just ring it up. Whether it was on purpose or not doesn't change the fact that I feel like I was given bad information that ultimately caused me to pay more than I should have. OK, finally on to the flavors of my meal. The rice was the high point of my meal. It was flavorful and I really enjoyed it. The beans were pretty good too. As far as the fish tacos go they were very salty and I managed to eat 2 of them before I just couldn't stand the heavy salt and gave up and threw away the 3rd taco. I've eaten at this restaurants 16th location and loved their fish taco meal and it was not overly salty so I was caught totally by surprise with my experience here. The chips and salsa were OK but not anything to get excited about. The bottom line as you can guess is there's no way I'll be returning to this location. I will happily return to their 16th street location (they got a 5 star rating from me based on a fish taco meal that was much better than here), but will advise friends and family to stay away from this particular store.

I didn't find this place to be anything special..the service was not great to begin with (it wasn't busy at all, ~8pm on a Sunday). Standard Mexican menu-we got chicken fajitas, a cheese quesadilla and a side of rice. The chicken and vegetables were pretty greasy but tasted pretty good. Overall food was fine, nothing special, service was ok (waiter forgot about us for a little while), might go back again.

One year after my first visit el Rancho continues to satisfy. A good selection of daily lunch and dinner specials, and a very good selection of fun adult beverages make for a good times at El Rancho. Must agree with a prior reviewer the salsa is lacking something; fortunately the cheese dip continues to save the day. PS took one star away because of the salsa.

My husband and I just love this place, and go here about once a week! It is your typical Americanized Mexican food - chips and salsa, burritos, enchiladas, tacos etc... It's all fast, fresh, and delicious! The decor is festive, and the service is great! You can't go wrong with the combination meals, or try the locos burrito - yum! The margaritas are great on the rocks, just pass on frozen, as they come out of a machine like a slurpee, and have a similar texture. Overall, though, A+! If you love Mexican like we do, you have to try this place!

Margarita's come in S, M, and L??? Count me in! Seriously though, I'm super happy there is finally a good mexican (more tex-mex) place to eat, that also has a good drink selection. We ventured in there for the first time last night, and I only tried the chili rellano (excellent!) and a couple of baskets of chips, and some guacamole. (and the margarita, of course). The guacamole was some of the best I've had- love it when there is bits of tomato and cilantro in it! It also had a bit of a kick, which was perfect. The salsa that was served with the chips was my only not-favorite part, there was a bit of a plastic flavor to it- which may have been because the container it was served in was fairly new, I'm not sure. I will for sure give this place another try, and hopefully add more details to this review. The restaurant is clean and colorful, and the staff is super friendly. I'll be back!

I love going here, they have the best fajitas in this area. There other dishes are just as good. This is a more authentic style Mexican restaurant, which I like. If you don't like onions or peppers in your food this might not be the place for you.

It was ok. I was there with some friends and the food was decent... Except for the rice. It tasted like frozen microwaveable rice. It was mushy and flavorless. I always say if the rice isn't good it's not worth going. So, I won't be back.

I tried this place for the first time last night and am happy to report we have a good Mexican Restaurant in Holland! They have a huge menu with all of your typical Mexican favorites; burritos, fajitas, tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas and also lots of specialty steak, chicken and shrimp meals. They also have drink specials every night! I loved the chips and salsa they brought out to start, the salsa was very fresh and flavorful with a little kick, but not too spicy. We also tried the cheese dip appetizer, it was a white melted cheese mix, very good! The chicken fajitas and ranchero enchiladas are both very good! Only downside, service was realllly slow, we were stuck in a back corner booth and I think our server did forget about us a few times, but I think that's to be expected at this type of place, so I didn't even mind! The interior is nothing to get too excited about, the food and drinks are good, so who cares?! All-in-all, good food at a great price!

We have had better at almost every other Mexican restaurant we have been to with very few exceptions. The salsa was OK. We shared fajitas which were mush and without flavor. The best I can say about the place is the furniture is very colorful; fun to look at. So they get an A for atmosphere and a C- for food. It is very doubtful that we would pay money for the experience again.

I visit every time I am in town-- can't miss my El Rancho time! Go on a Wednesday or Saturday nights when they have "Pitcher Margarita" nights. For around $10, you can get a full pitcher of any flavor and style margarita to share with your table. They don't skimp on the tequila either! I have always been impressed by their food and service as well. The chips and salsa are a good snack while you wait for your food. I have been here with large groups as well, and the service was still great. The portions aren't huge, but they are filling for sure. I can't wait until I am back in the area to fill up on some good drinks, food, and friends.

We ate lunch here the other day and I would return. The service was very fast and the food was good. My daughter had the hot and spicy burrito but it wasn't that spicy. I had the Camarones a la Diablo which was quite spicy and quite tasty.

I love coming here. This is my favorite Mexican resturant in Holland. I usually get the carne asada tacos, that are delish and the hot and spicy burrito (which is not spicy at all, but I'm mexican, so maybe for others it is??) that is really good too. I happen to like the salsa that they bring out with the chips, very tasty. It's not spicy at all and thats what i like when i'm eating it with chips. Now when i eat my entree, i always ask for their hot salsa (they have another version) and i put that on my food and it's really good too. Just enough heat for me. Service is ok, their waiters arn't very outgoing to say the least, but overall this place is great.

El Rancho is by far the best place to get Mexican in Holland. The Margarita's are excellent and I would reccommend getting the Fajitas for two. If you like pineapple, you can ask them to add pineapple to your fajitas as well. It's also a huge portion so you'll defintiely have enough for two plus some to take home. I have always had great service and I think the menu is well priced for what you're getting.

Went here a few times since my last review. Love this place. The bar is open which will help business. It was packed on Saturday night. The Burrito Loco is a great dish. Service was good and the Waiter remembered my wife and I since we tried our Spanish as best we could.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
