Best breakfast in Harbor County, quick service, and a good location. They try to make as much organic, local ingredients as possible. Everything is fresh and delicious - it shows! I had the fresh, homemade Luisa's granola with greek yogurt and fresh local blueberries. Try this at home, kids. It's amazing. It is even better at Luisa's. Freshly squeezed orange juice, and some eggs. And a homemade latte. Heaven. Attentive service and wonderful baked goods - so my husband says!

What a God awful experience! They said we would be seated in 25 minutes. It was actually an hour. We got crammed into a sardine can of an area where you were inches from the diners at the next table. It was hot and the air was stagnant. The service was terrible and it took over 35 minutes to get our simple breakfast order. The food was weak. Definitely not worth it. DRIVE RIGHT BY, unless you ate getting stuff from the connected bakery.

I'm a local, sorta. And I was planning to go to breakfast on my day off and checked out some Yelp reviews. I knew about this place, but when it's summer, you know to stay far, far away as the Chicagoans are all over this place like flies on you you know what... So it was a Friday in off season, first sub 32 degree day. I walked into this very cute cafe with an attached bakery. Oh the bakery... I had to resist that... everything looked wonderful. The enclosed porch had sun beaming in and I was the first one there and so I sat out there. Every table had different cloth napkins that were super cute. The menu was nothing extraordinary and they had special pumpkin and pecan pancakes that day. I went with the Huevas Rancheros. Of course here comes a family from Chicago with friends and all their kids in tow. Shouldn't they be in school? Well the kids wanted to sit on the porch, so I said why don't you all sit out here and I'll go inside... no, no, no, we'll sit out here and the kids can sit next you and drive you crazy by tapping on the window, laughing and making noise. Ah, harbor country... Food came out super quick. It was just okay... I wouldn't even say that.. it was actually just plain boring. It really need some flavor. It was simply eggs on corn tortillas with salsa and a side of beans. The avocado on the side was not ripe, but I know they can't control that, but then just don't serve it. I know that is what huevas racheros basically is, but I guess every other restaurant dressed it up a bit more with cheese, or a tasty salsa/sauce. Oh well. The service was fine and the food was hot so it gets 4 stars!

I would reccomend Luisa's to anyone. SUPER friendly and welcoming. Very cute setting - "shabby chic" without any sort of grubbiness, everything is clean and fresh. GREAT menu- a wide variety of dishes, but all based around fresh, healthy, and where possible organic ingredients. After eating around the country, we were nervous about the slim pickings in Michigan. But finding Luisa's was a welcome surprise. To find Luisa's look for the sign that says HARBERT SWEDISH BAKERY. (Mondays are a quiet day at Luisa's - if you can make it in then, you will likely get some extra-special attention, as we did. )

It is impossible for me to come here and not get Laury's Pancakes. Ther are even better than mine. The short stack should fill up even the starving. Service can be a little slow, but that's the norm for this part of Chicago. Attached to the fabulous Harbert Swedish Bakery!

Umm, the horrible Chicagoans you all talk about are the reason good restaurants like this are able to make a living. We are a Chicago family that goes to many of the restaurants in the area and we are polite, quiet, our children are well behaved. Get over yourself. I grew up in South Dakota and have seen plenty of rude behavior in rural America. Anyhow, the food is very good and we LOVE picking up pizza when she cooks it in the special stove in the "back yard". It's really good Italian-style pizza with fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked. Can't remember if it is Friday or Saturday nights

first, call ahead if its off season. it was not open tues/wed on the week we were there in october. it was open thursday to our delight. quite small, too many tables in the front window room for its size. other area more room and openness. attached bakery was not open till the weekend. menu offered many interesting gourmet choices. would have liked to try more than one but wouldn't want to appear piggish. decided on the egg scramble with mushrooms/spinach with asaigo cheese. came with toast choice and i highly recommend the swedish one with orange peel and fennel seeds. heavenly with butter and their cherry butter too. liked that they offered gourmet flavored iced tea too. hubby ordered the chilaquiles, which surprised me, he usually getting all the usual common things. its was fried tortillas chips with a chile salsa on top sprinkled with cheese. a guacamole side with spicy black beans. he liked it all. not a cheap place to eat, but well worth every dollar. 2 breakfasts/2 teas and tip about $30. would have liked to peruse the bakery but oh well. there are others to be visited before going home.

Great service and great food. Very creative menu. This is definitely a destination spot. Small place with a small wait staff so it may not be the fastest service but if you want fast food go to McDonalds. The owner, chef was delightful and let us sample a few things and really made it an enjoyable experience.

I'm a big fan of this wee small restaurant in a wee small town not far from Lake Michigan. It's also a bakery in peak times as they make loads of Swedish baked goods. There were 8 of us (4 adults, 4 kids) and, once again, we were very pleased. The service was very casual yet accomodating and the food was very good. 3 of the adults had the angus burger and it was excellent. The kids all shared 2 plates of chocolate chip pancakes and that was PLENTY. We WILL be back (probably for breakfast again).

My cottage is literally a stone's throw from Luisa's so we walk there, rain, shine or snow. Yes, it IS busy on the weekends...quite honestly, it is the sole restaurant in the hamlet of Harbert! Otherwise, you have to drive to Union Pier or Sawyer. So, the Chicagoan's stream in and out all weekend long. Either plan to arrive early, late or on a weekday; or do what we do: call ahead, and order take-out. We've been eating there for 2 years, almost every weekend and many times during the week. The Swedish pancakes destroy Ann Sathers; they are THAT good! Omelets and quiche are great, as are their vegetarian samplings. Even when busy, they are still friendy and the food is never less than flawless.

Just a-ok. Came here on our last day in town, Saturday morning. First off, the space is very small and cramped and we sat next to their kitchen which is teeny, so these two things made the experience what it was. First off the wait staff had to scoot around our table quite a bit to expedite food, not too annoying but enough when they're hustling to be uncomfortable. Next the food took forever to come out. The manager and wait staff had to apologize a few times -- hence small kitchen with overmatched space = long wait. Lastly, the food was just okay. I can taste that it's home made, fresh ingredients, I just felt that everything was just okay. Had the tomato soup which was a little herby and a bit too tangy. Also had biscuits and gravy, the biscuits were super good but the gravy was underseasoned making the whole dish very hearty but no flavor :( Their fresh squeezed oj was thumbs up. Wanted to love it, didn't. Not a bad choice if you're in the area, but avoid the busy times.

Such a cute little place. When you drive up, it looks like it's in a house. It's not fancy, but it's homey. Our server was a total sweetheart. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Sausage ($4.50). It's two patties. Nice flavor, not too hot. I also ordered the Dutch Apple Pancake ($10). It takes 18 minutes to cook, so plan accordingly. When you get it, it's a giant thing with a spongy texture, very similar to an actual cake. I've never had anything like it. It could have used a bit more cinnamon or syrup, but I found it light and fluffy and tasty. It's also huge, so it's sure to knock out your appetite. Luisa's is a cute place to grab brunch when you're in the New Buffalo area. It's worth checking out. Be forewarned the attached Harbert Swedish Bakery shuts down in winter months, so consider that in your planning.

A couple of more points to add: My better half always orders the buttermilk pancakes but they are in no way light and fluffy - they are firm, chewy and not very typical of what one would expect for a buttermilk pancake. The Swedish pancakes look like thin crepes and we will try those next time. Coffee is excellent - smooth and just a little dark roast. Even the decaf is delicious and they bring out matching mugs for the table that are different than the next table over's mugs. Interesting.

We were seated right away for Sunday brunch and there seemed to be a regular turnover of tables becoming available so I couldn't have imagined more than a few moments delay to be seated in the worst case. They serve intelligentsia coffee here which is one of my favorites, it definitely hit the spot. I had the Swedish pancakes with lingonberries, warning if you are not a butter person to ask for the butter to be served on the side. They certainly give an ample amount of butter with the cakes. I have had Swedish pancakes before in other places- and these were different- these being more chewy and without the crisp edges. No matter... they were tasty and I enjoyed them. I shared some with Terri and she smiled. Not much else to add that hasn't already been mentioned other than we felt it was a down home and relaxing spot for a bite to eat and we would definitely stop again.

Unique options like carrot cake waffles make this a great find. The food is great and the service friendly. We have tried many of their meals and never been disappointed. The place is small so get there early or you may have to wait.

Totally love this place and have been two times now (once with my whole family of 9 and then my family if 4) for breakfast. Everything have tried was really awesome. My favorite hands down is the Swedish pancakes and if you get the three you will be stuffed (I'm 6'3" & 215 lbs). Plus they have great coffee and a bakery attached.

After driving by this restaurant for years, we decided to stop in after blueberry picking. Yes, there was a short wait, even on a Friday morning, and we occupied our time in the bakery. Service was friendly and our beverages were refilled quickly the kitchen seemed a bit slow but the food was worth waiting for. The apple pancake was just sweet enough and their pure maple syrup was a good touch. The omelette was huge. We will definitely be back.

So good! We've stopped in to Luisa's twice during our stay here in Harbert. Love the feel of the place and the food is wonderful. It is a bit cramped and often busy as some have mentioned--but that's truly a statement to what great find Luisa's is. I had the zucchini and caramelized scallions quiche the first morning I was there. Heavenly! The second time I had the baked oatmeal with dried cherries and the hardwood smoked bacon...also delicious. Both times I left full and happy. Great service, tasty, well-prepared food--5 stars in my book.

Nice, quaint place to get breakfast. My wife had (and I tried) the curried lentil eggs. She has been talking about them ever since. I had a tasty chicken sausage biscuit and gravy. My only gripe would be that as a big appetite kind of guy, it wouldn't have done it on its own for me, but I ordered a couple of eggs on the side and it was perfect. Also, they are cash only, so bring some extra to hit up the attached bakery on the way out.

While my husband and i were staying in Bridgman we looked for nearby restaurants for breakfast. We luckily stumbled upon this gem! It was so delicious and such a good experience on Saturday morning we went back on Sunday morning before heading back to Chicago. There was a bit of a wait, but there's a sign in list and you wait in the bakery and can sip on coffee while you wait. The delicious baked goods are also quite a nice view :) We got a few cookies and limpa bread for the road. Highly recommend the chicken breast on pretzel roll (which was a special), the carrot cake waffle sandwich, the scramble, fried green tomatoes, corned beef hash and the biscuits and gravy!

OK, am writing this even though I know that many people seem to love the place. The one and only time I was there the service was fine, cute establishment but the egg dish I had with sun dried tomatoes was awful. My friend had the Swedish pancakes. Since we're Swedish and make them at home, mom made them at home, I'm sorry but they weren't good. Maybe we were expecting traditional. Buckwheat Swedish pancakes, really? Just my apparently minority perspective. Long lines not worth the wait in my opinion.

    (2)
  • Denise P.

No other place better to have breakfast in my opinion. The wait, if there is one, is worth it. Besides you get wait in the Swedish Bakery whose shelves are lined with every delicious baked good imaginable. The charming dining room and great staff, lead by the lovely owner, make for a great way to start your Harbor Country day. You can't go wrong with any of the menu items. Everything is great, but I find myself returning to the buttermilk pancakes time and time again.

Wish I could say how great this place is, but the service really ruined the experience for us. The food is very good. Do not expect good, or quick, service. Eggs and toast should not require a 50 minute wait.

Not my cup of tea. Expensive. Crowded. Have recommended it to my chicago friends and they love it. It just not for me.

We came here on a Sunday morning. It seemed the rest of the tourists also came here. We waited about 30 minutes for a table. Once we placed our order, we waited yet another hour. The food was good, but not worth the wait at all. A couple next to us just got up and left because it was taking too long. Another couple was sitting by us when the waiter came up and asked if they wanted the check -- nope, they were still waiting for their food. There were no status updates on the progress of the orders, no apologies, nothin'...it was also VERY expensive given the location. I love going to the Sawyer, Michigan area, but I am never going back to Luisa's unless I'm picking up pastries and heading out.

At first, I thought this restaurant was part of Harbert Swedish Bakery (which I LOVE), but then realized it was just housed in the same establishment. Good thing, because this cafe doesn't live up to the bakery's standards. It was definitely busy when I visited for breakfast on a weekday, which was a good sign. The menu looked fantastic, and I landed on the Chiliquiles, fried eggs. The thought of how good this could be makes my mouth drool. The thought of how good it was NOT makes my stomach turn. I received the dish - delicious guacamole, beans and ranchero sauce. But the eggs...something went so horrible here! They were over so easy, they were barely cooked. The whites of the eggs jiggled around on the plate like warm jelly; it was disgusting. I tried to eat around them, but as they were so runny, they went everywhere. Thankfully I didn't leave too hungry, as I just broke into one of my treats from Harbert. I wouldn't eat breakfast here again; cooking eggs all the way through seems like a pretty necessary task for a breakfast joint.

Hands down the best Swedish pancakes (buckwheat) EVER. Fresh squeezed OJ, good coffee, cherry jam, skillet potatoes, and the breakfast sandwich were all great. Locally sourced and organic products really make this place stand out! The service was a bit slow, but there was one girl serving the whole place and she was hustling.

Walk in planning to have breakfast. Line was long and there was no organization upon walking in. I asked another customer how do I get a table? They said write your name down on tablet over there on the table. So I did. Waiting I thought I would get a pastry since the line for the dining area was so long. They had two teenage girls running the bakery portion. People in line waiting to get a pastry and people walking right up to the counter cutting in line, in which the teenage girls were allowing them to cut and servicing them first. I could not tolerate the horrible service and unorganized flow of the place so we left and ate breakfast somewhere else. Went back the next morning, but earlier for coffee and a Danish, The Danish was outstanding!!! I'll be back when I'm in town again but not at rush hour.

My husband and I had heard really good things about this place and couldn't wait to try it out. We first ate there in June of this year. The positive reviews were right on and we were pleased with everything that was brought to us. The chilaquiles were unique and delicious. It was obvious that the food was fresh and organic. The coffee was excellent! If you're one that is willing to pay a little more for a good meal, this place is for you. My husband and I also enjoyed a few sweets from the Swedish Bakery afterwards. Of course, we took those to go. ;) We would definitely be back again. It was truly a good find!

nice place but way too pricey for breakfast especially in these parts. in chicago, eggs, potatoes and one piece of toast is not an $8 bill but this place it is. i also had a side of the corneed beef hash with my eggs, potatoes and one toast. the hash didn't feel/ taste home made to me. to be frank they might have been from the day before, didn't taste fresh. i couldn't believe i was given one piece of toast. with these prices spare the extra piece of bread please. my husband very much liked his ham and gruyere cheese crepe. the coffee by intelligensia was satisfying. service was okay. we probably will not ever come back or recommend any one to eat here b/c of the over-priced menu and the terrible serving portions.

  • Linda T.

The food is very fresh, feels like it was treated with thought and respect. Every meal I've had has been great. My only problem is that they had a greek omelet which was my fave, and is not on the menu anymore, but a friend suggested that I could probably have that if I would order from the new menu which includes a list of ingredients like feta, spinach, and olives:)

One of my favorite spots and I have only a handful of them. I have great expectations that are seldom fulfilled in restaurants. I don't pass up an opportunity to go to Luisa's. Recently, my uncle and aunt were visiting from Salt Lake City, and in spite of all of us being avid home cooks and "foodies," we made an exception to our home cooking and had lunch at Luisa's. Cozy atmosphere, great service, delicious coffee and wonderful, unique food. I had the buckwheat Swedish pancakes with a poached egg - -always a treat - -one I don't do at home. I swaddle the egg in one of the pancakes, ala crepe, and finish with some of the generous amount of butter that comes with the dish. Lingonberries crown the other pancake, tart and sweet and a nice contrast to the rich egg and butter, my own customization of the ever popular menu item. It was a blustery, rainy fall day and soup warmed my companions, a local vegetable medley. Crab cakes were enjoyed by my aunt. My uncle had the salmon burger on a pretzel roll. My mom had the french lentils, which are another favorite of mine. I love this cafe because I can relax with friends and family as if I were at home. It feels that way to me. Also, we took a couple dozen macaroons from the attached bakery to a family gathering. Well received, particularly the chocolate ones. Yum. Yum!!

Stopped here on way to Chicago with my son. SO delicious! He had a bacon choc chip waffle & loved it. I had the spinach goat cheese quiche - it was souffle like and very tasty. I also wanted to try the pancakes but didn't want the short stack - thought it was too much. Luisa told me I could just order one pancake- perfect! The ingredients are mostly local and organic. It was a cozy, friendly environment. We will make sure to stop here on all our trips to Chicago! Next time I will get the whole short stack of pancakes though - they were so yummy!! note: we did stop by on the way back and Luisa remembered us and stopped by our table. I also did order the short stack with some of the spicy chicken maple sausage. The only bad thing I have to say about this place is that it is too far away for me to go every week!!

  • Scott M.

Carrot cake waffle sandwich with chicken sausage ... winner winner (4.5 stars out of 5). Waffle was crispy yet soft in the middle, the sausage had a nice spice to it, and the hard egg was cooked perfectly. Get one, even if you don't like carrot cake (like me). Corned beef hash was just okay (3 stars). The corned beef was finely ground ... if that's how you like your meat in a hash, this is a solid, traditional version for you. But for me, one of the best parts of corned beef is the grain / texture ... so I missed that aspect. Flavor was there, however. Coffee was very good (4 stars) and the espresso was pretty good but a bit too bitter for my liking (3.5 stars).

After a disappointing introduction to the restaurant, I raised my concerns with the owner who was very apologetic. We returned to our table and enjoyed our breakfast. I ordered the Chorizo and eggs with a side of bacon--delicious. My partner ordered a no crust quiche which was less than impressive. This place hinted at the quality of their reviews, maybe next time.

We ended up here accidentally, but we're glad we did. J got the carrot-cake waffle breakfast sandwich, which was a carrot-cake waffle with a sausage patty, an egg, and gouda cheese. He wouldn't share but I was jealous, because it looked/smelled amazing. My baked oatmeal was nice but not exceptional. The cafe is housed on the ground floor of an old Victorian type house, which is cozy but a bit cramped if you're there during peak hours. Altogether, a lovely place to stop while antiquing or camping at Warren Dunes. Be sure to stop next door at the Swedish Bakery for a loaf of limpa bread.

I just waited an hour for my food, asked the waitress, she said, "There are two tickets ahead of you." No apology, no explanation-this place has ten tables, four of which are empty. Very strange. We left.

Delicious breakfast, friendly service. We had the chilaquiles and carrot cake waffle w/ egg and chicken sausage. Both were excellent. Also took home treats from the attached bakery.

  • Wink B.

So goddamn overpriced! Had a 12 dollar egg scramble... 2 eggs, peppers, onions, cheese, and sausage. They just chopped the shit up and threw it into the eggs. 5 dollar orange juice was half pulp. The bread is good, as are the waffles and all the baked goodies in the front part. But nothing is worth this much money. Is rent high? Or are you just taking advantage of FIP cake-eaters. We know the answer. Emperor's new clothes up in this bitch.

This place sucks. If you're not a regular, don't expect your food anytime soon. We sat for 30 mins while 3 other groups walked in after us and got their seats, food and bill before we got our food. Plus they only have american fries, which also suck. Keep driving on red arrow highway past this joint.

We stopped at Luisa's because we had tried their quiche at a baby shower and cupcakes from the bakery. We thought they were Deelish but we didn't have the same experience at the restaurant. We were seated within 10 min but it took 40 min to get our food! We saw other people who sat down after us get their food quicker! When we got our food we weren't that impressed, especially after waiting so long for it! The Swedish pancakes were pretty good but chilaquiles, we've had much better in Chicago! My daughters biscuits came out last!! Don't think we'll be back!

Glad We Stopped In We hadn't been to Luisa's for many years due to a bad breakfast experience. Stopped in for lunch recently and were really glad we did. The restaurant was full, but the service was brisk and the food was good. I had rancho huevos Luisa's style which came with crisp corn chips under the salsa and eggs and was served with black beans. My husband had the crust-less quiche (spinach and gruyere) and it was good. The owner came over and greeted us like we were old friends and asked how our meals were and that went a long way with us. We'll definitely start going here again.

Luisa's is a special gem in the southwest MI area! The food is consistently delicious and the ambiance is relaxing and family-friendly. It's an excellent restaurant choice for a cozy, 2 person breakfast or a large family gathering. The menu will please everyone! Our favorite items include the daily quiches and soups, pancakes, crepes, oatmeal, selection of breads, salmon burger and BLT sandwich. And everything from the bakery is delicious as well! The owner is incredibly kind and courteous and sets a friendly tone for the entire restaurant. We always look forward to returning to Luisa's!

Breakfast at Luisa's Cafe is an absolutely wonderful way to start your day. We had a basic breakfast, my friend with Luisa's homemade oatmeal and me with two organic eggs sunny side up, limpa bread, and potatoes grown by Luisa. Plus, a whole lot of fair trade coffee. Most of Luisa's fare is organic and fair trade. Not only does that mean I feel all politically correct and moral and superior when I eat there, it means the food tastes better. Yes, friends, organic really does taste better than the chemical-laden crap you get at the 7-11. It is delicious. When you have good ingredients to start with, the meal only gets better from there. Lovely, lovely place. Wish I could go there tomorrow morning, but, alas and alack, I am back in the Big City. Luisa's is a destination place. Eat there, you won't regret it.

Yummy!!! We finally got to have breakfast here after four years!!! We were in SW Michigan for the weekend and as there were no crowds, we decided to have lunch. We ended up brunching it! I had carrot cake waffles...a near orgasmic experience! They have fresh made Chai (yum) and hot chocolate. The food was great, service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was very homey. It is attached to the Swedish Bakery who have great pastries. The only negative is they only accept cash, and thank goodness we had enough. Cash is something we rarely carry...lol...

Great breakfast/lunch. Always fresh and interesting. Not cheap but very much worth it. Fresh squeezed OJ. Try the Swedish pancakes in regular or mild buckwheat version (tasty) or crab cakes (real crab, not artificial). They don't accept credit cards and hours may vary with the season so check but open more than many of the local places that close off-season. Have been consistently good for years, probably because owner/chef usually there.

I would have given this restaurant 5 stars, if it was solely based on the food. I gave it 4 stars because the wait was long and it took a long time to get the food. It felt a bit chaotic. But, if you go in there with the right mind set, regarding the wait times, you will have a great breakfast.

Totally great breakfast stop on a road trip! We were all so happy. The biscuits and gravy were fabulous and so were the Swedish pancakes. Definitely worth a stop.

Having spent many of my weekends in Harbor Country since 1989 or so, this is my favorite brunch spot around. I have never ordered anything but the buckwheat Swedish pancakes (don't even consider the "short stack"), they are so addictive, despite seeing many other tempting options ordered by companions. The espresso drinks are top quality and the place just exudes a genuine vibe. Portion sizes are refreshingly not huge, and unlike so many other brunch establishments that just want to turn over tables, the food here is prepared with consistent care.

This place was amazing! Great service and food! We went there for breakfast and I don't think I could have had a better breakfast. Their orange juice rocks. It is freshly squeezed (yes, we saw them squeeze it). I got a Dutch apple pancake and it was a dream come true. They aren't open on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Not your everyday breakfast food -- I had a carrot cake waffle sandwich with spicy chicken sausage, egg, and gouda for $6.50, which I thought was a good value. I didn't realize it at the time, but reading reviews below, looks like the waffle was carb-free, how is that possible?? Nice. My boyfriend had Swedish pancakes and said they were great. We both had fresh-squeezed orange juice. Afterward, I bought a chocolate-frosted cake donut in the connected Swedish bakery, and it was the best cake donut of my life -- for 90 cents. The owner attended to us and answered questions about the dishes.

This could have been my favorite breakfast of all time. Freshly made Swedish Pancakes with homemade lingonberries were a huge hit with my family. We also tried the waffles (too beautiful) and the short stack of buttermilk pancakes - which were fluffy and had a yeasty flavor. Great coffee! I hear that everything is made from scratch, and all the batters are remade fresh every 5 orders. Impressive. The adjoining bakery had a line that was scary, but we were seated quickly once in this small cafe and our order came promptly. I imagine once the bulk of the tourists leave in September, we can enjoy a more leisurely time in this very cute place.

I live in Chicago, but venture over to Southwest Michigan at least once a month. Luisa's is the best breakfast place in town, and beats out many places in Chicago. The menu is fantastic, and the coffee is great! The Potato Pancakes are AMAZING, and the Biscuits and Gravy are insanely good! You must check this place out. A true treasure! No Credit/Debit cards accepted though, bummer :(, so bring cash.

We ate breakfast here on a weekday while in town on vacation and were so glad we did. The food is made from organic and free-range meat and eggs, and unbleached/whole-grain flours. There are even gluten free options. My husband had eggs and sausage and while the sausage was homemade and delicious, the eggs were okay (really, how much could you do to fried eggs to set them apart from anyone else's?) I had the apple pancakes which were delicious. It was really more like a cake with apples baked into it than a traditional pancake, crowned with gooey cinnamon maple syrup. It was delicious; I've never had anything like it and now I'm back home eight hours away from it! The chai tea latte was excellent as well. The restaurant itself is small-ish and I could see how it would get crowded and somewhat slow, especially on a weekend. But for a leisurely, uniquely delicious breakfast it was excellent.

This place is one of the best breakfast places I've ever been to. It's connected to the Harbert Swedish Bakery on Red Arrow Hiway. 3 years ago was vacationing with my family. My kids are grown and have a few special dietary needs. One is vegan, another needed gluten free, and then there was the rest of us who just wanted regular fare. I thought it would be impossible to find a place we were all happy eating at. They have it all and it's so delicious. We vacation in the area every summer and usually end up eating there 3-5 times during the week. Local fresh ingredients. Their own breakfast sausage.Best Swedish pancakes ever. AND the gluten free, no carb, carrot cake waffle is "to die for". I believe Luisa's is named after the owners, Vivian, mother. She is always so friendly and accommodating with a great smile. We love it so much that we've driven there from Chicago just to have breakfast there. They serve lunch too.

Luisa's Cafe has the BEST food! We travel from Chicago just to eat here. The Swedish panckakes cannot be topped and this past weekend I had a Carrot Cake Belgium Waffle that was amazing. The staff are great. Just a couple steps and i'm in heaven in the bakery which is run by the cutest little Italian lady. The cherry pasteries are my favorite but the blueberry cream cheese croissants shouldnt be missed either. You can't go wrong stopping in here.

Pricey, loud, yet good place for breakfast. I had the French lentils, Swiss chard and curried yogurt plate. Very unusual and tasty. My sister had the oatmeal and liked it a lot. Service was OK. Was disappointed that the adjoining Swedish Bakery had no items on their shelves, as they are very good when available.

I'm writing this review from Luisa's, because I've been here for about an hour and a half and I'm still sitting here without any food. I wouldn't be annoyed except that they told my party there was a 20 minute wait, it turned out to be 45, and our food still hasn't arrived even though we knew what we wanted before we sat down. I just wish they'd have told us the truth so we could have gone somewhere with better service.

Excellent. 3 of us had the quiche, which was huge and fluffy, with tasty ingredients inside. One of us had eggs with homemade corn beef hash and it was great. The staff was friendly and helpful... Vivian (Luisa's daughter) even came over to thank us for coming and talked to us for a couple minutes. We will eventually be regulars here. (We used to eat at the Retro Cafe, but they have switched owners and aren't the same.) I'm glad we had to look for another place for breakfast because this was great! Come EARLY! You could wait for a long time if you arrive after 9am.

4.5 stars. We spent $45 for breakfast which is a bit high for my family of 2 and a half. I had the crab quiche, daughter had swedish pancakes and hubby had chorizo plate. Pancakes were addicting. Coffee was lack luster. Quiche needed salt, otherwise very good. Chorizo patties were made from scratch. Service was a little below average.

A cozy restaurant with the best breakfasts in Harbor Country. The "Laury's Favorite Pancakes" with lots chocolate chips and pure maple syrup and thick sliced bacon and fresh squeezed orange juice is the way to start your day. My wife, who must be gluten free, can't wait to have the gluten free Buckwheat pancakes with Lingonberries or maple syrup. The alternative is the gluten free crustless quiche. We have breakfast at Luisa's every time we're in Michigan, we love staff and we love the food. Great restaurant for breakfast and lunch.

Kinda Hooked on this place lately. Swedish Buckwheat pancakes with lingonberries!! Yum. Also their granola and yogurt is basic but great. Need to come back and try more but i'm stuck on my fav's right now. Vivian and Kyra are great too. I drive up from New Buffalo when I'm in town and it's always worth it.

What a delightful cafe! Stumbled upon Louisa's after a yelp search for restaurants in the area. Such a gem! The restaurant is attached to a Swedish bakery and the cafe features a mix of traditional items and more unique fare- we tried the carrot cake waffle sandwich (unusual and delicious)! Definitely worth a visit if you're passing through.

We came here for breakfast after camping at Warren Dunes SP. this was our second time here, first time was for lunch. Which was good. I had the eggs with sausage and provolone. It was great! The potatoes where cooked perfect. My wife had the short stack and loved them. She is funny on how she like her pancakes cooked. I had one one and enjoyed it. Real maple syrup too, not the fake stuff. The owner would come to all the tables and ask how the meal was, she talked to the table next to us for a good 10 minutes. Then she never came to our table. When we where walking out some other people where leaving just before us, she told them "Thanks for coming in, come back again" or something like that. When we walked out she didn't say a word to us? Really seemed odd. The other wait staff was really friendly. I don't know if it was because we just came from camping? Or that we where on a motorcycle? We are not some dirt bag Harley couple. I don't know what it was? My wife even said "Did you notice...". Not that it was a big deal. We will be back.

Very good food. Bad service. Carrot cake waffle was delicious. A little pricey. The chocolate waffle/pancake was overwhelmingly rich, but good if you're in to that. The chilaquiles were also very good. The salsa is a bit too generic for my taste though. The avocado/lime mixture that is served as a side is awesome. Intelligentsia coffee as well. Always good. The only bad thing was the service was when the restaurant wasn't full. I wonder how they do on Sunday's when there's a ninety minute wait. Our waitress was pretty bad. Had to ask multiple times for nearly everything. Reagardless, the food was good.

Great little brunch stop up in New Buffalo. We originally went awhile back with friends, while visiting their home in Sawyer, then found ourselves there again this past weekend while up for a wedding. The restaurant, which is set up in a old home, also includes a Sweedish bakery. If you don't have much of a sweet tooth, I recommend the scramblers or chilaquiles. Also worth mentioning--Cash only.

Popped into this little gem for breakfast while on vacation. Returned two times during the week. We enjoyed everything we ordered. My personal fav was the carrot cake waffle (made without flour) which is crispy on the outside, light and chewy on the inside - texturally satisfying and delivers on flavor. Paired with pure maple syrup it's delightful. Luisa was very attentive and even gave us a few samples of other menu items. A memorable restaurant - we're sure to go back when we're in the area.

The bakery is amazing but we had the same experience as a previous reviewer: Louisa's drops the ball on their restaurant seating. The restaurant area is small and crowded and there is no sign to tell you wear to stand nor is there any (obvious) hostess to guide you. To boot, one of the waitresses gave my husband a strange look when he wandered by her! In part because of this confusion, we opted to grab muffin, donut and coffee from the bakery and eat it at one of the three small self-seating tables in there. Another plus, the bakery serves Intelligentsia coffee.
