Not recommended for pad Thai. I really like the inside of this restaurant. Friendly staff, fast service, big portions, average pricing. However I am extremely picky about my pad Thai and This is not the place. I've ordered pad Thai from here 3 times. The first two times Id give it three stars (1 dine in, 1 takeout) but the third time (takeout) there was next to no green onion or egg and no bean sprouts. The noodles were kind of hard like they weren't cooked all the way and it was dry. Can only speak to the pad Thai though.

I hate to say it, but the quality of this place has really gone down hill. Went there yesterday, the place was dirty and there was dust and cobwebs on the window sill. The service was slow and I was the only one in the place. The quality of the food has fallen off as well.

We'll be back! I'm a fan of all of the locations of Tokyo Sushi- I've been to at least four of them. Their menu is MASSIVE. It's wonderful because my boyfriend doesn't eat sushi, but I'm a big fan, so he can get Japanese food and we're both happy. He said their teriyaki beef is among the best he's had. The only downside is the tables are all sort of permanently sticky. This is definitely an Asian food dive, so don't come expecting anything high-class.

I've never eaten in because this is my takeout place, but they are quick and have a huge menu. Sushi is pretty good, and Thai has large portions.

I really enjoyed this place. We went on a Saturday night and were the only people there. It made me a little nervous but there was no reason. The spring rolls are on point. They give you two in a little boat and it's adorable. I had the Pad See'w and it was awesome. The veggies were super fresh and good. We also had a bunch of sushi which was also good. I would for sure come back here again.

So this place is a block away from my house and I was excited to have it be so close. I've had great experience at other Tokyo Sushi locations however this one I will not be going back to. Without getting too long winded this has been my experience after trying it on THREE separate occasions. - inconsistency in the food; one time ordered pad Thai and it was just okay, the next time it tasted completely different and had frozen looking peas and carrots in it - missing items from carryout - LONG waits, even if I ordered ahead I had waited another 20-30 minutes in the place waiting for food. - ignored by servers/staff when calling and walking into the restaurant - the "hot" which they have a "no return policy on" if you order it tasted like a mild at any other Thai place - Satay, that is on the apps portion of the menu, I was told would take 30-35 minutes to cook So I gave it plenty of chances but I just can't continue to spend money there when there are just such inconsistencies with the food and service there.

I recently got wind of this place from a friend and I was craving something good but reasonably healthy. I opted to check this place out and see what their sushi was all about. As VB noted, this place has the same owner as the other Tokyos around the area....Chris used to be my sushi chef a long time ago in Royal Oak and I hear that now he bounces between his many locations. I walked in and heard a voice from the kitchen say "sit anywhere". It was around 2 on a Tuesday so needless to say it was literally empty but I pulled up to the 4 seat sushi bar and asked if they took credit..."not for another hour". So I decided to come back around 3 and the same voice greeted me again. I took a seat and placed my litmus test order...some tuna, tamago (sweet egg), unagi (river eel), and a spicy tuna roll. The chef got to work and the voice from the back Tia stood and chatted with me about a little of everything...she's a sweetheart BTW. The plate was ready fairly quick and I got started after snapping a pic for y'all. The plate was well presented and everything looked in order. I started with the tuna which was at the right temperature and tasted really fresh...my only gripe about the meal was the cut on the tuna. The 5 pieces I had, had that thin line of connective tissue that I hate having to chew through in them. It happens from time to time but it always detracts from the texture of the fish. That aside though the eel was fantastic with a more robust than ordinary eel sauce brushed on, the tamago was well made and the spicy tuna roll was pretty good too. FYI Their sushi menu is huge....rolls, rolls and more rolls. Some with chicken or other cuts of meat, others that are vegetarian and the traditional as well. It was a little overwhelming but they've got a little of everything covered in spades. The Thai menu was fairly extensive too but I only perused it. The interior is the same as Pete's was with the addition of the sushi bar itself. And it doesn't sound like there's going to be a BYOB policy, or beer or liquor being served but if you're looking for a 3.5 star sushi spot in the Hilton corridor this is worth stopping into to check out. I'd like to give them another try and see how the tuna turns out next time.

They have always had great sushi and service, also at a fair price. It's very worthy of four stars and definitely not an uppity place, but what is up with the newest location on Woodward Heights and Hilton Rd.? Twice we drove there for lunch and it was closed when it is supposed to be open, and today there was no sushi at this location, only Thai food. I was happy this location opened as downtown has its parking pains, but it's proving to be unreliable.

Extremely friendly and personable staff. The food is always rich in flavor, and the fish is always fresh.

The service was good the sushi was excellent the only problem I have was how long it took for me to get my sushi. The people I was with enjoyed their food and I enjoyed the sushi. I wish the parking lot was in better repair . But I love the location I love the service. And I hope this restaurant sticks around longer than the other restaurant that have held this place.

Its amazing to me that almost a year later, I am writing a one star review for this place. It would be a no star review if that were possible. Last night, my husband and I went to get our usual bi-weekly carryout from Tokyo Sushi. We ordered a variety of rolls, some salmon sashimi and some yellow tail sashimi. When we got back to the house, we realized they had given us white tuna instead of yellow tail. Annoying, but no biggie. We called the restaurant and they said to bring it back and they'd replace it. As I started to put the white tuna back into the styrofoam take out box, I noticed something. There was this brownish red imperfection on one of the pieces of fish. I took a closer look, tried to brush it off. It was imbedded in the fish. I tried to pull it out, and succeeded partially, but still had no idea what it was. At best, it was some kind of blood clot, at worst a worm. It had a very thin, blood red string coming off of it that made it look like it could be some kind of parasite. Of course Google image searching "sushi parasite" didn't help at all. Totally nauseated now, I sent my husband back with the yellow tail and told him to get a refund for our meal. He came back ten minutes later, saying they had convinced him that it was seaweed salad that had just attached itself to the fish. Thats funny, I didn't know that seaweed salad could grow through a piece of fish. Or bleed. After debating what to do for a while, we went back over together to try to convince them once again. My husband went in first while I waited in the car (I hate confrontation). I could see through the window that the chef was very angry, holding up pieces of salmon and yelling about the quality of his fish. My husband motioned me to come in. At the end of the day, we got our money back. But it wasn't pretty. He actually said that he couldn't afford to give us our money back because "fish is $10 a pound!" Well, I just spent $55 on wormy sushi. So maybe saying that my meal cost you less that $15 to make isn't the best approach. He finally said he would give us a refund if we promised to never come back (as if there was any chance of that!!) On the bright side, I can't say I've never had a yelling match with sushi chef anymore. I am so disappointed at the quality and appalling behavior of this place. We have visited Tokyo Sushi regularly since they first opened. They were happy to take our money on a weekly basis, but when it came to standing behind their food, they weren't up to the task.

I have to preface this review with saying it was their opening night when I ate there. That said, maybe things have changed but based off the reviews and the empty parking lot on most nights I'll guess it's still not very good. The food here was awful. I ordered their udon noodle dish. Instead, I got a plate of noodles in some out of the can teriyaki gravy. Awful!!! We also ordered their spicy tuna roll. I'm a huge sushi fan so I'm also very picky. Yes, the prices are much cheaper than sakana and Inyo but the quality is very lacking. If you want very mediocre sushi at a discounted price then this might suffice in a pinch. Like I mentioned before, Im extremely picky, so it's a thumbs down on the sushi for me as well. Hopefully they make some changes but until then I won't be going back.

Atmosphere is modern with thoughtful lighting. Waitress is super friendly with a genuine smile. The Thai dish was ready quick, the portion was generous, and most importantly tasty. Prices are reasonable. The Sushi is pretty good.

After three different ventures to this sushi joint, we've finally decided not to return. We truly tried to like the food here since its within walking distance but this place is completely inept. I'm not sure if its the waitress who takes the orders down wrong or if the chef doesn't know his own menu and what goes in to each roll but we have on multiple occasions ordered ONLY rolls with tuna and yet always manage to get at least half of our rolls made with salmon and doused in roe (the orange fish eggs) when there is no mention of fish eggs being on the rolls. Sometimes it comes with the roe and sometimes not. Who knows. I wish I could say something positive about Tokyo Sushi but I honestly cannot. It's worth driving an extra 5 miles to ANY other sushi joint in the Royal Oak/Ferndale/Oak Park area.

So I can't review the food cause I have never been able to try the food there. I have attempted to get carry out on 2 occasions, but have sadly been denied. Last Friday evening I stopped in wanting to place a carry out order and was told (by a young woman that kinda shouted at me from the kitchen) that it would be about a half hour wait. What?? For Sushi??? There were only like 2 tables full in the restaurant. So I left not understanding the wait and not real pleased with the unfriendly greeting that I received. I was still craving sushi on Monday this week and I thought I will give them another try and this time I will be smart and call ahead. Sounds great! Not so much, no one ever answered the phone. I called the number on the carry out menu. Hmm, I tried calling again and it just rang and rang. There are no hours stated on the carry out menu or on their website, so I don't know maybe they are closed on Mondays??? I know one place that is open on Mondays... Noble Fish. Easy Peasy. All in all, not sure if I will give them another chance. If I do, and if I actually get to try the food, I will update my review.

I've hesitated writing a review but I feel others need to know about the quality of service and food I've received. My first experience was good. But the last THREE times have been awful. My carry out orders have been wrong and even had items missing, the sushi has been served warm, and the attitude and lack of customer service is truly sad. I will NOT be back.

This place is great for what it is: a cheap spot for good sushi without massive amounts of pretension. I just relocated from the SF Bay Area, and frankly, the hype at Ronin's and other similar places is a huge turn-off. This place nails good sushi at a decent price, and the Thai/Sushi combo actually reminds me of one of my favorite places in the East Bay. Also, their rolls are pretty big: their hamachi was twice the size as the usual, and they don't glob tons of mayonnaise on their spicy tuna roll (a common theme in Midwestern/Southern sushi joints). I do hesitate to give this place five stars, only because I don't want the place to get so popular I can't get a table!

I am hooked on this place! My third time there and each and every time i had great service, food, and atmosphere. I would absolutely recommend this place. Their shrimp tempura is really really good, we have them add cream cheese to it.

I went around lunch time for a carryout & the place was dead- that should've been a clue. The interior was pleasant & clean looking. However, when I got home less than 1 mile away , I discovered the quaint interior was the only thing good about it. My chicken satay was small & dried out- looked like an index finger of a corpse. It also did not have peanut sauce. I called the restaurant & they said they did not have peanut sauce at this location. Hello? Isn't that a main ingredient of satay? Wasted $8.You need some kind of sauce on this dried meat for sure. She said "yea, yea, tanks" & hung up on me. Bad customer service. The dragon sushi roll was fishy & its eel! How is cooked eel fishy? It also has a creamy sauce on it. :( You need more wasabi to get past the fishy taste & that was even slightly runny. Thankfully I ordered pad thai also. That seemed ok. Stick with noodles to be safe if have to go here. Much more superior thai & sushi places less than 1 mile away -even better.

I used to eat at this restaurant quite often. Always enjoyed it, until I found worms in the sashimi. Had to argue to get my money back... Will not return. Advised to avoid!

I LOVE this little gem. Friendly staff, good sushi and at a reasonable price. I frequent this restaurant and especially like to go around sunset. The location is a bit unusual, but all part of the charm along with the sound of the train passing. Stick with the sushi, it is where it's at!

I ordered a carry out and when I got it home the food was different from what I remembered reading about on the menu. I went online, downloaded the menu and found that I was correct. The dish that I ordered was missing eggplant and had peas and carrots added to it that I didn't expect. I called the restaurant to see if they were out of eggplant and was told that the menu is a used one from another one of their restaurants and needs to be updated. I asked again if they had eggplant and was told, "I can give you your money back but you have to give the food back." I explained that I wanted the food, but I wanted it the way that the menu described it and again asked if they had eggplant. I was told "I don't know, I'm not the one cooking it. I can see if we can make it the way you want it." The person I was dealing with seemed irritated and I chose to return the food and not bother trying to get it the way it was described. When I returned it, I mentioned that their online menu was the same as the one in the restaurant and was told that the website needed to be updated too. It's unfortunate, I tasted the dish before I returned it and it was flavorful and good, but I won't be going back due to the disorganization and the way that I was spoken to.
