I love going to sneakers for a cheap drink. You can always count on a deal here. The drinks never seem weak either, so plus plus! It's a very chill environment and usually somewhere you can find a seats for a group. The ladies room is quite unique, doesn't bother me much though, just different, its an experience really. The foods not bad either and quite reasonably priced. Tater tots are a must! Sometimes it can be hard to order food if it's a busy night is the only downfall here. But as long as you flag someone I've never had a hard time getting an order in. I'm not a huge karaoke fan. I like it sometimes but other times not so much, the nice thing is that even when its karaoke night you can sit more towards the front of the bar away from the karaoke and still hold a conversation with people.

Sneakers has some entertaining karaoke. And the regulars at the bar are usually pretty friendly, as are the bartenders. This would seemingly earn 4 or 5 stars. Unfortunately, the smoking ban was lifted. I walked in last week, and felt like I was back in the hospital. I couldn't understand why. Then it hit me: the place smells like urine! Aha! I guess if work is your home away from home, and the bar is your home away from your home away from home, this might be a nice touch, but it is not what I look for in a pub.

Love this place. Standard bar, drunken fools sing karaoke.

Dive. Don't know why I like it here, but I do. I guess it's because it's a part of the strip -- if you duck into this place late on a Saturday and decide the karaoke is particularly awful that night and you wanna go fancy it up at the Oakland or shoot some pool at the Loving Touch, you're only a few footfalls away. That's some faint praise: "This place is especially bailout-able," but I guess I like Sneakers on it's own merits, as well. For one thing, the karaoke can actually be a blast (if enough people are pitchin' in), the clientele are a bunch of loose canons, the drinks are cheap, and the lights are low. What more do you want in a dive bar?

This is that place I go to when I don't know where I want to go. Thats not a bad thing necessarily, since I've been here at least half a dozen times. Hell, I even had food here! This is a kind of divey bar, but not quite. Carole is 100% correct in saying that its a step above a dive bar, but no where near somewhere like Dino's. This adds to its charm though! They are cheaper than many other Ferndale bars and have an alright selection of beer and stiff drinks. Atmosphere wise, you're always going to find the crowd is pretty dang nice, not too uptight but not too trashy either. Service is good, but not spectacular. Its at least better than having an inattentive bartender like seems to be the case in many different places. The food is bar food. There is absolutely no other way to describe it. I had cheese sticks, mac and cheese bites (these were a delightful accident) and baked tater skins when I was there. The menu looked like a bar menu, which means if you want something thats cheap and simple, this is your joint. Overall, a solid location. I will be back, but I am not going out of my way to rush to Sneakers. However, I'm sure I will end up here more times than not waiting for The Loving Touch to open.

Love this place! Cold beers, great drinks and tasty food at great prices!! Relaxing atmosphere makes this our Friday night staple!

Best bar in the city and one of last remaining true dives. The crowd is very mixed; in ages, locals, tourists, regulars and stragglers. Sneakers is the best bar to be at late night, it stays busy and interesting. They also serve to-go beers so you don't have to run to 7-11 before 2 to keep the party going.

I've been dragged all around Ferndale by a cascade of people and seen all the variety the city has to offer. As a homegrown Warren boy, I found myself at home at Sneakers (Those of you who have never been to Warren, which I assume is a lot of you, it's a Mecca of dive and sports bars). I love a bar that in the middle of the day the majority of their lighting comes through the window. It's cheap beer and the deep fryer is humming. I could almost hear mom's voice. My only complaint is the service, which is pretty slow. I always feel quite like a bastard whenever I have to make conscious effort to flag down our server/bartender. There isn't a whole lot to say about this place, which is what I like about it. Good drinks at a great price with average service. You'd probably like it.

Great local place. Cheap drinks. A few TV's to catch the game. Originally a 3 star place but downgraded to 2 stars because the bathroom is absolutely horrible. Honestly, if I'm going to give a place my hard earned money, the least they can do is provide a private door to the bathroom instead an opaque shower curtain. Horrible. I don't know if the men's bathroom is the same way, if be interested to know. They also had karaoke on the Friday inwas there and you could hear the music but not the people singing. I don't know, could have been a blessing in disguise though.

Total dive bar at it's finest! Good service and strong drinks. Fun to go to for a change of scenery.

Sneakers has got to be one of the best dives out there. Yes, the rest of Ferndale is littered with these upscale, snotty, just... outrageously expensive bars that give Ferndale the reputation that it has. Sneakers? Is not that. Basic chairs... wobbly tables.. TV's... as much as I could say I don't like it... its great. Its got character. In fact, Sneakers sponsors the volleyball league I'm on, and we get vouchers for free beer. We go there, have a great bite to eat, and we're able to help stimulate this place. They will bend over backwards to get you what you want to eat... Yes, you might have to repeat your order... or just take the toppings off your burger that you didn't want... but the fact is it is food... its cheap... and its a dive. A huge shout out to Laura! :)

  • Deanna G.

Love this bar! Cheap drinks and bar food, staff is amazing...great place to sit back and relax with some friends... Yes the bathroom could be better, but it's not like it is dirty...just different. So suck it up and enjoy the atmosphere...and if it bothers you that much, just have another drink and you will forget all about it!

Sneakers Pub, is a bar. There is literally nothing fancy or overly special about it. Anthony Bourdaine probably will never go here. BUT, it's a good place. Super cheap beer. They sell all the old fashioned grandpa beers, now known as hipster beers. Their food is EXACTLY what you'd expect from a dive bar. Is dive bar PC? I feel like it's insulting but I'm not trying to be pejorative. It's just what it is. They have a patio so that's good, but I think my favorite part about this bar is the volume at which playoff hockey is broadcasted. Nice. And. Loud. You can actually hear everything. So while you're drinking your cheap ass beer and eating your grilled cheese and what-have-you, you can enjoy hockey the way it's meant to be enjoyed. I'd give it five stars if the bathroom graffiti was a little more tactfully done.

  • Jessie G.

This is a good bar. The thing that holds it back from being great is the lie the waitresses tell me every time I am here. It goes like this...we are in the middle of changing shifts so can we cash you out? Now that's not a problem, but every time, and I mean EVERY, I pay and sit for another hour and I never see shift change. It makes me feel like they think I'm gonna skip on paying. Besides that, they have the cheapest drink prices in Ferndale. I'm not big on karaoke but if you are this is the place for you. They will root and cheer you on no matter your talent level,so sit back and relax and have a drink. Just be ready to pay after each purchase. Enjoy!

Best dive bar ever! Great staff, cheap drinks, good eats, and KARAOKE! What more could you ask for?! My friends and I always have the most wonderful time and always feel right at home!!

  • Jim T.

Worst dump of a bar I've ever been in, waitres was rude and so was the manager, left before they started my burger...disgusting bathroom, not sure you can even get your hands germ free there. Went down the street, manager remembered my name, shook my hand and smiled at me, and with 37 beers and gourmet food for the same money... Don't bother with Sneakers there are better places to spend your time

    (1)
  • Jessica N.

I love this place. Cans of Black Label the best grilled cheese and pickle sandwich ever and they sell beer to go at their happy hour prices (plus deposit). The staff is great and the crowd is full of the friendly drinking types.

This bar is awesome if you just want to go and hang out and have a couple of drinks... The bartenders are friendly, the drinks are cheap, and the vibe is pretty cool/ dive-y! My recommendation is to NOT go here on a Saturday night for karaoke. The woman who runs karaoke is not a nice person and has no order for who sings when. She places the cards in the order she wants... Not first come first serve. I've brought it up to her and she acts like she's trying to give everyone a chance when in fact she's just favoring ppl. I've seen the same people sing over and over again while our song gets pushed to the back! It's bull!! I've never been anywhere where they do that! She likes the control and takes advantage over the customers! She's a brat for lack of better words!!! Don't go for karaoke!!! It's a waste of time!!! And it's a 2 drink minimum and it's packed!! Go any night but SATURDAY!!

  • Joe B.

Sneaks is just the right amount of everything a growing boy needs and Tom, Heather, Katie, Shayna and LuLu are the cat's asses! Each one has their own unique personality that transcend this divey joint making it a townie favorite that so many of us Ferndalians have come to love! If it's Friday night, there's few other places I'd rather start my weekend. The food isn't top notch, in fact it's right on par with average, for bar food. You won't find anything fancy here, but the girls make a mean grilled cheese, the patty melts are legit and I've heard the gyro is pretty killer too! The juke is still riddled with mixed CDs added by staffers, and the bathrooms are a little dicey and covered in Sharpie graffiti but what you're sure to see each time you show up is someone behind the bar ready to pour you a proper drink with a big ass smile on their face. Come for the who-cares ambiance and stay for the karaoke if that's your bag...but as long as I've lived in Ferndale until I eventually leave this midway of fun, Sneakers will always be my favorite spot to kick back with friends. It's got a lot of hootspa and plenty of character...nuff said!

I have a soft spot in my heart for Sneakers. Sneakers is a dive bar with great beer specials and cheap food prices. The menu is all delicious! My kickball team has frequented Sneakers on Monday nights throughout the past few seasons after games and its always a good time. From our observation, there is usually one friendly person working alone on Mondays that handles our large group very well. The person is usually manning outdoor patrons, the bar and the food orders alone like a boss. Very impressive! Come here knowing its a dive bar and you won't be let down! I would love to hit Sneakers up for karaoke sometime.

Easily the beat dive bar in the area. Cheap booze, friendly staff, great atmosphere. I haven't tried the food, but that's not why I go to a dive bar.

  • Marcos B.

This bar is exactly what I was expecting. Low key dive bar, cheap drinks, crappy karaoke, really good bar food (be prepared for greasy/deep dried options) and good service. Great way to start my evening in a chill atmosphere before hitting up the other dives in Ferndale. Will come here again in the future to try other of the many specials they offer. On a side note, I have heard that it is also good for Sunday Funday

    (4)
  • Robert P.

Went there today, a Sunday around dinner time after golfing. The bartender was friendly and smiling and was on top of her game. The price was right and they had the Tigers game on.

As far as customer service goes this place is excellent. Cheap beer and a good time. Tom is one of the most genuine and polite bartenders I have ever met in my life. Such a good time. Love sneakers. No hipsters either.

Perfect dive bar for Ferndale. Karaoke brings the crowds on the weekends and is always a blast. Cheap beer and drinks keeps me coming back

I attempted to meet friends at this place, last night. I lost my ID on my 30th birthday, and have yet to receive my replacement. (I only had the paper version) I understand the need to follow the rules and provide a picture id, even though I am cleary of age. What I do not understand, however is the pompous, power-trip, ass-clown bouncer, you employ. I will never enter this establishment, I will suggest to my friends and colleagues that they do the same. Very unprofessional staff.

    (1)
  • Laura W.

Sneakers is my favorite little hole in the wall. The staff is always attentive and plain out awesome. The food is also quite tasty! Big fan of the tuna melt. Prices are perfect as well. Some of those bad reviews sound completely implausible ! I always feel comfortable and will coming here for years to come!

  • Michael C.

This is a great place to watch a game in Ferndale. I went here for the first time last weekend and the place was packed. Karaoke was going on, which usually annoys me but it wasn't too loud. They serve Black Label and that sounds fantastic to me.

    (4)
  • Ross S.

Bar food. Townies. Cheap drinks. Dive atmosphere. "Staggerable" distance from most downtown Ferndale attractions. Short review for a kick-ass dive bar. Just go there and get your drink on. It's a GREAT little spot for a meet-up with friends!

    (5)
  • Cari M.

This place has the world's friendliest bouncer. Seriously. He was a medium sized smiling white boy no older than 25, mega nice .. it threw me off to be greeted by a happy face at a bar door. Sneakers is full of people WAY cooler than I am - still enjoyed it. They have karaoke, good drink prices, and a chill/positive atmosphere. I see myself spending many evenings to come in Sneakers :) Definitely check it out if you're bar hopping in Ferndale - you'll probably want to spend most of your night here. It did take an exceedingly long time to get service at the bar though - but it was Saturday night so you gotta expect that sometimes.

  • Joe V.

The dive of my choice. This place is great when it's empty. It's great when it's crowded. The karaoke on the weekends is good, but you don't feel like you have to be a Grammy Award Winning singer to participate. The drinks are reasonably priced. The crowd is always inviting and friendly. In my opinion, there are few places in the immediate vicinity that I'd rather be. Can't comment on the food as I've never tried it.

Top 5 Reasons I Love Sneakers: 1. Cheap drinks - but not watered down (and $2 cans of Black Label) 2. $1 nuts! - For a buck you can get glass of warm pistachios (my fav) or cashews 3. Karaoke - Saturday night karaoke is pretty fantastic - reminds me of Crunchy's in East Lansing 4. Laid Back - We went there on New Year's Eve this year and they didn't do a pretencious $50 ticket - it was a usual free night at Sneaks plus they surprised us with free champagne! 5. The People - The bartending ladies are great and the clientele is always at the very least "interesting" One Reason I Don't Love But Keeps You Talking: 1. The Ladies Bathroom - enough said

Truth- I do go here a lot with my friends. We go here because the pitchers are cheap, we like to (badly) sing karaoke, and it is close to where we all live. "It's TOO busy for food!" This is what my friends and I were told last time we went. Um, wouldn't this be the perfect time for food? The server also forgot our order behind the bar for at least 10 minutes. Okay, okay, I know it is just alcohol and it's a dive bar but c'mon- get it together. And yes, the bathroom is a joke. Don't be shy...

I've lived in Ferndale for 3 years. Been living with Sneakers at the end of my street for 1.5 years and for some reason, we never went in. I guess it's that kind of place. Not really a standout in the Ferndale scene. We only ended up here because of a bad experience at another Ferndale bar. We figured we'd try to go somewhere new and Sneakers happened to be the closest bar that we were unfamiliar with. What a pleasant surprise! Drinks are cheap. The decor is kinda divey. It's not dirty or anything, just old. Our bartender was super freaking nice. It was a Friday and there was no karaoke going on. I'm pretty happy about that because it's not really my scene. Overall, a pretty enjoyable experience. Two things: The jukebox/music is not good.Pussycat Dolls, GaGa, Bon Jovi. Not really what I want to hear playing at a dive. Also, the woman's bathroom is terrible! It's clean, don't get me wrong, but the set up sucks. Toilet one and two are separated by a half partition wall. No doors. Toilet two and the sink are separated by a shower curtain. So two toilets, but only one can be used unless you're cool with a total stranger seeing your girl parts. Odd.

One of the most peculiar crowds I have ever seen. Granted it was a Thursday which means Karaoke, and god knows people of all sorts crawl out of the woodwork to show-off their vocal chords, but still... strange. They do have a really good karaoke book, but it seemed like the vast majority of people singing were regulars.. and pretty decent as well. For someone that is slightly tone-def-- this situation is NIGHTMARISH! The crowd was friendly, but not overly into it which puts a little damper on the experience. Our waitress was friendly. Don, the Karaoke DJ was a tad cranky not gonna lie.. he almost made you feel like he was doing you a favor by playing your song.. but, I must say, he added excellent background vocals and complied when I begged him to turn down my mic. I definitely would like to go back and enjoy it when I am not as emotionally scarred from having to sing when I wasn't nearly inebriated enough to sound semi-decent.

Whoa. I just witnessed the very most entertaining karaoke I have seen in a *very* long time here last night. I had no idea that they did karaoke on Saturdays, but I'm pretty positive I'll be back, if only just to watch. I could give you a play-by play, but let's just say there was some amazing Prince (it's hard to wow me with Prince at karaoke, I admit), some sweet vocal stylings by friends (shout-out to Moonface Allen!), and some ridiculously entertaining gal in slashed leggings "sexy dancing" to everything... including the Beatles. Annnd, even when it was not her song. What can I say? The power of music just got to her, man... Oh yeah, there was also that guy in the sailor hat mumbling something into the mic (what?!). Drink prices were reasonable, the staff was not exactly friendly but not unfriendly, and it was a great way to close out the night. I'll be back. It I was searching for my Ferndale dive, this may very well be it. And I say dive with a lot of love.

  • Matt B.

We usually go here after our volleyball game because they sponsor the drink ticket. Given that the pitcher of beer is free, we like it. Even if the beer wasn't free, i'd go here for the cheap drinks and dive bar atmosphere. Where else can you find Black Label? I've never been here during karaoke (thankfully) but last night they had a live performance from a solo act. Girl with guitar singing bluesy-type songs - not bad. The staff is super-friendly. The shots are big and not watered-down. I've eaten a couple of things off of the menu. Not a place for food. I'd recommend it for a night of drinking.

Ferndale's local business community deserves a lot of love. Drinking holes in this fair community can run the gamut from upscale Emory and polished WAB to quieter holes in the wall. Situated near two of the prime comedy theatres in the area, Sneakers falls towards the lower end of the spectrum without turning into the seedy pit of cigarette smoke and sticky, torn stools that a dive conjures to mind. This is the pit stop for a cheap drink with friends when cash and time are tight, and no one feels like dressing up. Think of Sneakers as the laidback guy cracking open a Fosters and watching the game, happy for you to flop on the couch or belly up to the bar, very come as you are. It's relaxed and unpretentious, a bit loud, and splashed by one too many annoying TVs and bar games for my liking. Larger tables are located towards the back to accommodate groups, and the front tables are squashed against the windows with a view over the street. The staff manages to navigate between the sections well, and the waitresses are nothing if not prompt and friendly. I haven't been when they were getting slammed, mind you. The menu is limited to pub standards, cheese popper bites being the most recommended by friends. Don't come here if you happen to be hungry or want a wide, diverse menu -- see the WAB down the street for a wider sampling of sandwiches, wraps, and a proper meal. Burgers and fries aren't very memorable but you're here for the drinks, not the food, probably. Fancier drinks can be had in The Loving Touch or Western Market, for that matter, but Sneakers welcomes one and all into its dark interior without asking many questions. The bar is well-stocked, drinks are stiff, and the price won't make your eyeballs roll back into your skull and froth erupt from your mouth. On the other hand, enduring the karaoke nights and facing down the ladies' outhouse (seriously, a _sheet_? No way did I go use it) will.

A solid Ferndale spot. This place often gets billed as a "dive", but I might disagree - I think it's a few notches above a dive. More of a no-frills, comfortable, come-as-you-are, small neighborhood spot. The karaoke night is annoying, as nearly all karoake nights anywhere are. Drinks are pretty cheap. The bar staff runs a weird line...I've never found them to be real friendly, but not so bad that I'd say they were rude. The tator tots are AMAAAAAZZZING. They are so good I want to shove them in my pocket Napoleon Dynamite style and save some for later. Weirdest ladies bathroom ever. If you are weird about peeing behind a poorly tacked up bed sheet, hold it til you get home.

Good karaoke scene, I like the stage. As a female I will say there are a couple creepers (yeah, I'm talkin' about you 2012 guy in an old Newport Cigarette tank top with fake cigarette butts sewn all over it that smelled real. You stood behind Mine and Anna's chairs, hovering, laughing obnoxiously when we did and a little bit louder than we were.) Good shots, good service, cold beer. What else do you need??

My first visit started out nicely, joining friends for karaoke on a saturday night. I even signed up for a song. The problem I had started when I accidentally walked in on someone in the lady's room, I apologized & returned to my seat while waiting for that person to come out. When I went in I barely had time to take in that the door to this one-stall bathroom didn't lock before someone tried to enter, I shouted that someone was in there & they stopped so I figured it was settled. Then I had another person ramming the door in & nearly got smashed in the face. When I tried reasoning with the employee about her procedure of figuring out why the door was "barricaded" I was spoken too in such a manner as one would a stupid child. Needless to say, but my first visit will also be my last!

This is my "local" and is mere staggering distance from my house. That having been said, I'd definitely go there even if it wasn't so close. You really have to see Sneakers to believe it. There have been minimal updates since approximately 1982. I mean, they have 1980's framed beer posters on the wall and I'm pretty sure they've been there since they were new. This having been said, Sneakers definitely has it's charm. The womens bathroom is astonishing--as stated in another review, two "stalls," no doors, and a shower curtain for privacy--but it's always good for entertaining conversation when you find yourself waiting in line with newbies. When we bring new people in, we always say they need to take a friend the first time they visit the restroom. Rumor has it the mens room isn't quite as exciting. This place is definitely a locals/regulars type place but everyone is welcome and new faces are always appreciated. There's always a very wide variety of people in there. I've made some great friends hanging out in this place--one of the bartenders even came to Las Vegas for my wedding!! Highly recommended if you're the dive bar type.

Whoa! Weirdest girls bathroom ever! Sneakers is your typical neighborhood bar, with its obligatory beer promo mirrors, fried finger foods and interesting vocal stylings on karaoke nights. But I would have to admit, Sneakers is definitely set apart by the weird-ass girls bathroom, where privacy is a non-option and a shower curtain could be your only saving grace. Don't get me wrong...Sneakers is a totally cool bar to hit up on a Ferndale pub crawl. I totally love the chill atmosphere and I totally enjoy hanging out on their patio, kicking back a couple, during those summer evenings. And I totally love that they are cool when I bring my dog to hang out on the patio with me!

Great burger, numerous fried snacks with cheese and dollar beers. Lots of VFW here, maybe some red stag. Big screens for the game, and a smelly bathroom. Most people are next door fixing their hair at loving touch. They can stay there.

Good prices and a decent hole in the wall within Ferndale. If you go to the bathroom during karaoke you will notice the walls filter the music and you get a chance to hear just how terrible the singers are.

  • Amber H.

i spent new years eve this year at sneakers. when we walked in they had a "top hooters girl" competition of some sorts on all of the tv's. they changed it to the standard "ball drop" closer to midnight, and thankfully not the dick clark version. they also handed out hats & noise makers that perfectly complimented what spending your new years eve at Sneakers ought to be like. the bar is a great dive with cheap drinks & greasy bar food. the girl's bathroom must be seen to be believed (to sum it up: two stalls, no door, one shower curtain). my only complaint is that it is SUPER smoky in there - i always come home smelling like ass, but to be honest - that may not be sneaker's fault.

    (4)
  • Bryan V.

Sneakers is a good bar to start a pub crawl with. Fair prices, kind of divey in a good way. Karaoke can be a bit much; I remember a guy doing karaoke with a Kermit the Frog doll. Anyhow, my favorite aspect of this bar is sitting at the counter. The brick foot rest is at the perfect comfortable level.

  • A. N.

The worlds worst bathroom. The worlds best bartenders. Attentive, even when busy! Typical dive, slight outdoor patio but why sit in the sunshine when you can hide in the dank dark bar and play darts. Come here and order a beer or 2 ingredient cocktail, stay long enough to enjoy some drunkenly delicious tots and throw wayyy too many dollars into the Pulltab machine. Come expecting nothing and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the fun you're having. Just avoid karaoke nights.

  • Jane F.

This place exists for all your crunk needs. You can carry out beer for when you never want that night to end, perfect!! Seems to be a favorite among service industry workers. Usually pretty friendly place. Hilarious karaoke, even funnier bathrooms. Just relax and relieve the bladder, you'll be fine, promise!! Or go next door to Loving Touch and use their restroom. Nice patio in front, back opens into an alley if you're looking to do something more discreet than smoke a cigarette.

  • Edward L.

This bar is excellent for keeping low key and getting a cheap drink. PBR, Black Label, the classy stuff. Somehow we always end up there on Saturday for Karaoke and somehow we always end up at the stage singing. Fun times always. The negative spot is if you are not wearing hipster clothing or find everything ironic. Multiple times I have found drunk hipsters wanting to throw fists up...really!? lol Other than that great bar, great bartenders, and great drinks.
