Service: always great. Lovely waitresses. Food: Healthy Omelette is big and fresh and full of spinach, mushrooms and feta. I get it every time I dine. French toast is nicely done and sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon. Overall I will always go back for a delicious and satisfying breakfast after working all night.

In the past 16 months since first going to this place I have been there once a month...um...like...that would make it 16 except I have gotten two carryout orders also. OMG...like...that makes 18 times in the past 16 months...lol. I know I made it like sound like totally horrible 80's style like !!!!! Each time was for breakfasts. Love them. Fast Service. Low cost, NOT cheap food. Probably have had half of the breakfast menu. Really like the Mac-N-Cheese Omelette, Country Breakfast Special, and Country Fried Steak and Eggs. Take a look at the pics of the menu I posted, sorry they do not have it online. Thumbs Up !!!!!

I am not going to lie to you, this place is good. There breakfast special board had so many options it made me happy. This includes the mac and cheese omelet I got. The service was great. Even for being super busy the waitress kept stopping by and had a smile on her face the entire time. There was too much food on my plate to even finish. The toast was just alright. It is very busy and not worth waiting in line for. Bonus: they have multiple hot sauces for you to choose from.

Pretty standard diner fare as it goes but it likely won't be as packed as the more notable diners on the strip, and the food is legit. I had the 222 (two eggs, two pancakes, two sausage links and two strips of bacon plus toast and I added an order of hash browns). Yes it was a ton of food but I didn't realize it came with pancakes until they arrived which was a happy mistake because they were delicious! The eggs were so so and the hash browns could've used a little more crispiness but I'd come back. The menu is large enough that you'll find something you like and prices were reasonable while our server was friendly and quick with refills.

Have driven past this place a thousand times. Was in a pinch and passing the place, ran in for some Chicken Noodle soup. It was pretty tasty! As far as dining in, space seems limited. But the service for a walk in carry out (granted it was soup) was quite quick. I'll try again sometime.

This is my favorite place for classic mid-west food. I have tried quite a few things on the menu & have never been let down. Kelly is also the most lovely server I have ever had.

Mac and Cheese Omelette!!! Ok, now that I have your attention, let's get things under way! Double EE is a staple to HP/Ferndale border... before Ferndale actually gets "cool". Between I 75 and Hilton, this place has been around for years and years. Ahem... it's a little geared toward those of the "geriatric persuasion" Ahem. If you don't get that, it means much of it's clientele are old(er) people. Jeez, make me spell it out for you why don't ya!! My sister, nephew and I did our Saturday brunch and this is where we ended up. Haven't been here in a while so sounded like a good idea. I was just craving eggs, potatoes and bacon, and I know they do that right. When we got there, luckily there were 2 booths left... Oh yeah, the place is TINY!! I grabbed a menu and started looking. I asked my nephew what he was having and he says "Mac and cheese omelette".. SAY WHAATT??? He points to the 2 specials boards above the counter. OHHHHHHHH!!!!! Holy effing shit!!!! They have wonderful yummy sounding specials!!! 2 boards worth!! Mac and cheese is one of my favorite foods. How could I NOT try this?? And honestly, it was pretty decent!! The eggs were fluffy, mac wasn't overcooked, and you get a choice of meat in it, I had bacon (yum!) and you still get potatoes and toast on top of that.. It looked like I barely touched it after I ate til I was full! Another thing to note is most of their egg breakfasts are 3 egg, which isn't always the norm. Sister loves that for her dippin eggs!! I don't think it was slow, it was timed out fine. The waitress was nice, and even remembered to notice refills, even in the brunch rush. So, I say yay!! Bill was cheapo!!! Mine was like $8.00 plus tip and I had A LOT of leftovers! /Brunchy!!!

My girls and I have been going here for months now. The waitresses are great. It's small but has a real home feeling. The food is great if you like the coney feel.

This is your small, greasy diner. Large portions, small prices. I only go for breakfast so I really do not know how the non breakfast items. I've had fair to good service. I recommend anything with eggs. My friend had the biscuits and gravy and thought they were just okay. They are one of the few places that have American fries (thin sliced and fried potato) instead of hash browns or cubed potatoes which are better in my opinion. The omelets are huge. They come with potato and toast. One order can feed two people. My brother loves this place because one of their breakfast plates comes with three types of meat.

Great food, great service, great everything!! Go there! But these B*****ds treat their employees like #2. SO that's why they get two stars from me. Treat your employees like crap in front of a loaded dining room? Not funny, not cool and very embarrassing to that poor waitress! I do not care if she is your relative, that's public humiliation!! I cannot stress enough however how great the food is and how LARGE of a portion you'll get esp breakfast!

John and I have been going to the Double E ever since we've lived in Ferndale (5 years), and I've never been that impressed with it, but it's a quality place. When we first started going for breakfast we found that the service just wasn't good. It was slow, unfriendly, slow and SLOW. We used it strictly as a take-out only place because of this. Slowly it fell out of our rotation for weekend breakfast. We attempted again a couple years ago, and it's a lot better - not amazing, but much better. The breakfasts are good. Perfect greasy breakfast, big omelettes, generous portions and quick to refill the coffee. I've only had a non-breakfast meal there once, a chicken finger pita, and it was GREAT. The pancakes are especially good. The service is still kinda lame. It's much quicker, but they're not that friendly. I hate when you go into a restaurant and you're treated barely adequately, but when a familiar face walks in the whole staff lights up and kisses their ass. I'd say for the last few months, John and I have been going atleast every other weekend, if not every weekend. I feel that puts us in "semi-regular" status. I would appreciate at least a familiar "hey guys" or that sort of recognition of semi-regularity. Especially since I'm a 20-25%+ tipper, as well as beyond friendly to all staff. While this annoys me, I'll continue to go for breakfast but I'll just dial down my tipping and niceness.

This place was shockingly good. It reminded me a lot of Winky's from Mulholland Drive, but not in a scary way (I didn't look behind the dumpster, though). They have a giant menu of what I'll call 'home food'. The greek salad I had was 1,000 times better than others I've had at way fancier, more expensive places. Everything was so fresh. Well done, Double EE. I can even overlook the redundancy in your restaurant's name.

My wife finally got a day off! I wanted to wake her up to breakfast in bed so i went to this restaurant and got her a breakfast to go. The food was bland, the bisquets and gravy tasted really really bad, soggy hash browns etc. She barely touched it.... I will never go back to this place... Waste of our hard earned money to be honest..

This is a Hazel Park/Ferndale classic. The menu is kind of hit-or-miss, so its not really worth driving for, but it has a strong place in the community, so if you are a local, you are definitely familiar with it. I'm not sure how relevant ordering suggestions are for this place since the customer base is mainly repeat locals, and I think first meals here are pretty rare, but if you do find yourself here, go for the country omelet with sausage gravy on top, and avoid the knackwurst.

This place is a neighborhood classic. I've been going there since Ziggy worked there and she used to cut deals with kids to finish their veggies/plates or whatever she would always give out little toys. That was probably half of the fun of this place then. Now that I'm older you can't go wrong, Double EE has saved me on to many occasions to count from intense hangovers. It's your basic diner but that's what makes this place perfect. Huge portions Good food and Cheap prices. It's a no frills neighborhood classic.

I have to admit that I should have known better than to order anything but breakfast at a place that is obviously a breakfast place. However, the hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy was calling to me. The food came to the table luke warm. The lake of "gravy" on the plate was yellow and insipid. I couldn't eat it, unfortunately. The boyfriend ordered the ultimate omelet with American fries. Mostly, I ate off of his plate. The potatoes were crispy and delicious. The omelet was huge and exactly what I would expect. We both agreed his breakfast was delicious. So, although I'm giving it two stars right now, I may be back to add a star and another review after ordering breakfast.

this is the bf's dream kinda place for breakfast. the not quite nice, a little odd diner. i think he really just likes the fact that they're always cheap. the breakfast was ok. he liked his, but he always orders eggs, bacon and toast. who can mess that up right? i rate breakfast at diners by there biscuits and gravy. particularly the country gravy part. i expect it to be thick, salty, peppery and piping hot. the gravy here was bland and had that---didn't cook the roux enough floury taste. 3 stars becuase he liked it....i was underwhelmed, love, juston

This place is great...I am not sure why they have three stars overall...you shouldn't let that stop you from trying out this local gem...the menu is not going to make to cry but it's gonna be good and they are very consistent... Burgers are good...fries are good...ranch is good and home made...soups and chili are good, sometimes the service sucks mainly because some of the waitresses are cracked out but the short plumpish one with black hair is the best one... Like i said give this place a try you might find them a dependable place to catch some grub...

How many places will give you a salad/cole slaw, an ample dinner of whatever, soup (call ahead see if they have the tortilla soup, its awesome), and ice cream for like 8 bucks? Double E got'chu!!! Breakfast is ridico size. Only downfall this place is small so sometimes you are sitting in spitting distance of strangers. But who doesn't like hearing about a strangers drunken run in with Darren Mcartey the night before?

Our friends recently introduced us to this place for breakfast, and you really can't find bigger portions at such small prices anywhere else in town! We got huge amounts of eggs, potatoes, and meat for $5. Seriously, who gives out 4 humongous slices of ham at breakfast? That's awesome! Also real butter on the bread - nice. I could handle having some healthier options on the menu, but what are you gonna do. This is a place for huge portions of homestyle comfort food; there are plenty of other options in town when you want something lighter. It's definitely a diner style diner, nothing cutesy or hipsterish or pretentious in any way. The service has been very good every time; they keep the coffee cups full and food comes to the table fast. My only complaint is how the smoking & non-smoking sections are divided...they're not. There isn't even a semi-wall separating them, so if you sit next to the smoking section expect to have smoke blown right in your face. Normally I'm not a big smoking nazi, but Double E was not the right choice when I was recovering from bronchitis! I look forward to visiting them often after May 1st, but I sure hope that their regulars don't abandon them once they can't smoke there. It's a good place, I hope it stays open forever!

I love this place. The menu is nothing exciting or revolutionary, but it is your quintessential neighborhood greasy-spoon. Long live the Double EE (and yes, that's how they spell it on the sign).

I'm actually hung up between a two and a three, but since it's the first time I've eaten there I'll err on their side. This is a wee Diner -not a large diner by any means. They had enough staff that I sort of wondered how they all fit inside. The staff was OK. Moderately friendly. The food was so so. I got a mushroom / swiss omelet - portions were generous, but the quality was mediocre. The cheese in the omelet was most likely processed 'cheese food'. It came with toast (basic bread) and hashbrowns - cooked crunchy - which I liked. I ordered a side of sausage patties and they were... meh. The milk was ice cold but pricey. Maybe other things on the menu are better. I was tempted by french toast or pancakes - perhaps I'll try them next time. What can I say? This was not a breakfast that would lure me out of bed.

The two star description says it perfectly. Meh, I've had better. I have to say their eggs are better than my jam, Omega Hawg & Dawg (best name ever), but the atmosphere is just gross. It just feels not nice, if that's at all helpful to you. It's diner-ish, but not enough. It's not nasty dirty, but it doesn't look clean either (I think the tables are maroon, I that's just uhhhg-ly). Although this is totally unprovable, I have to say that it seems like everyone in there is eating there for the first time. Now, that can't be true, but it feels that way. At Omega, even when it's your first time, you feel like you're about to become a regular. It's an unquantifiable thing you just feel. I mean, how else can I explain why I don't eat at a place (Double EE -- it's actually spelled like that, by the way) with cheddar cheese and better scrambled eggs?

Thank the stars for the old greasy spoon diner! This is the joint you've been looking for. No muss, no fuss comfort food done right- at prices so low you can't possibly tip fair by percent. Alas, I've seen change left as tips- I cannot imagine a harder job than being a diner waitress. They only make $2.65 an hour, bless 'em. We travel a lot for business, and naturally it's usually to other cities. I almost always want a diner-style greasy spoon for breakfast, and it's hard to find them when you're not a local. The last two cities we were in we had no luck in finding the Perfect Diner. We don't like chain restaurants, so we consulted the interwebs. We were referred to two very nice establishments (one was even featured on the TV show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives"), but to give you an idea of how far off they were, they both had liquor licenses. They were nice, but not what a diner is supposed to be. If I want that kind of experience, I'll go to Toast up on Woodward. I hope this review helps anyone who is craving that old fashioned diner where the food is great and the price is, too. This is it, folks! p.s. It closes at 8pm. I sure wish it didn't!

I've gone here for quite a few years and their breakfast is really good and also a good value. I've had lunch and dinner too, they have a large selection, it is also very good, their soups are very tasty and homemade (I'm assuming homemade because there are real chunks of chicken and the noodles are firm and not mushy like most preprepared soup). The food is always consistent, nothing ground breaking, pretty much standard diner fair. The quality is as good or better than several hipster hotspots that charge much more for a lot less (both quality and quantity) I might give the place 5 stars if it were not for a couple of their waitresses who are rather slow and inattentive, if you go there a few times you will know who's section to avoid. The waitress with the bob haircut is the BEST, quick, courteous, polite and a joy to be around. If you expect highbrow gourmet food, go somewhere else, if you're looking for well executed homestyle diner/comfort food at reasonable prices then this is the place for you.
