I work in the Renaissance Center so I'm frequently in the area for meetings etc; The Volt bar is a place that my team visits for a drink on late evenings, or cutting short on fridays. Its a place you can hang out with co-workers (for me at least) and socialize outside of the office grind. The prices are a bit elevated for what you get, but that comes with the territory (Ren Cen). If you work here, regular lunches might be a tad expensive if you do it daily, but I have found that there is always a lot of room and have yet to leave here disappointed with either food or drink.

Had to go here with my husband for a work lunch. The food was pretty much frozen food you could make at home. The wine was terrible the server did not even get the right one when I asked she looked confused I should have made it easy and just got a bud light maybe. The ambiance is nice and its a great place to talk and hang out. Small though getting a table can be hard. Next time eat before we go and not order wine from there.

It got quite a bit hectic while I was in here due to a couple large conferences, but the staff still maintained a great pace with everyone. The food wasn't bad (actually the wings were great). Everything is hotel prices, so yeah, a little high, but hey, it's a hotel bar, hello...

Volt offers a wide variety of drinks and a beautiful view of Jefferson Avenue. They also have a food menu that contains standard bar fare: salads, chicken wings, sandwiches, and burgers The service is good and there's even a beautiful outdoor patio for the summer months....just don't wander off on the rooftop. The Westin security will promptly put you in your place. If you're looking for a nice place to go after a concert or special event, head on over to Volt, located on the 3rd floor of the Westin Hotel.

Nice hotel bar. Super busy on a Saturday night with lots of sporting events going on in downtown Detroit. Our server was friendly. The drinks were tasty, especially the key lime martini. The wings and quesadillas were tasty but arrived lukewarm.

Take into consideration, it's a hotel bar so noisy shouldn't be a surprise. It's average. It's a Marriott so the Marriott burger is a solid, dependable choice and never fails to overexcited, nor to disappoint me. My colleague, however, had the chicken soup and a cheese tray and was rather disappointed.

It's your average hotel lobby. Weirdly lit and overpriced. The staff was nice. Woodford on the rocks in going to cost you about $15. To be fair, the guy who made my drink did fill it to the brim, so I appreciate that.

I almost never give a 5-star, but I am for one simple, albeit important, reason: service. My server was awesome. She went so far above-and-beyond. She went out of her way to even make toast for me while I was conducting a meeting instead of me having to go and do it myself! Bri enna is to be commended! Overall, the food is fine and the view is nice, but her service set my experience apart

There are so many better selections to go to in the RenCen. The food is nothing special at all and the drinks do not excel. The servers have been the shining star and are attentive and quick most of the time. If you have to stay at the RenCen I would say give a try to Muer's or if it is after 5:00pm head up to Coach Insignia and have a great view and a wonderful happy hour.

There's really nothing special about this typically average hotel bar. The drinks are overpriced due to having a captive audience. The food's decent, but also overpriced due to having a captive audience. Decor's nice, it's a beautiful bar, but again...nothing particularly overwhelming or special about it. If you're in the hotel for some reason (I was there for a con), then sure, pop in, but it's not like I'd go out of my way to get back there for any reason.

I really wish I could give this bar a 3.5, but since I couldn't, the 4 stars will suffice. The bar is very conveniently located inside the Marriott. The food is pretty pricey for what it is (bar food). The drinks are pricey as well, but the staff is all friendly and very accommodating. Service is neither fast nor slow. The quesadilla is marvelous and the burgers are juicy. The portions are a good size.

I stay at the Marriott a lot and have been here a few times now (sometimes breakfast, sometimes dinner, sometimes dessert) and really, it's not bad overall. Service can be highly variable based on the crowd. I actually have had the same waitress last two visits and there was a big difference in service between the two visits, so I think she was just overworked the first time. Foodwise, I prefer dinner to breakfast, but that's mainly because for me breakfast buffet is overkill. They do have a nice omelette station and fresh fruit as well as the standard buffet stuff that really ends up not tasting the greatest when served at a buffet. But I'd rather just go to Potbelly on the 1st floor of the RenCen and get a breakfast sandwich for a few bucks than pay $18 for a breakfast buffet here. For dinner, the angus burger & fries are surprisingly good. Not best-in-town good, but better than your typical bar & grill. I've had these in the restaurant and as room service, the fries are better in the restaurant because they get soggy on the trip to your room, but the burger was good both times. It's probably going to be my go-to dish when I eat here. The chocolate mousse cake is very good, but I don't recommend sharing it unless you really just want a bite. We shared a piece among three of us and each of us barely got a nibble. Although I don't really drink here, I think Volt's a good place to come for drinks as they have a nice variety of beers & wines and a nice looking cocktail list that did I not have a personal rule against getting sloshed with coworkers/boss/clients, I'd be tempted to try. The wines come in several sizes starting as small as 3 oz if you just want a teensy bit.

This place is great if you are staying at the Marriott and want to get a quick drink or something to eat. It's probably not a place I'd go out of my way for but the atmosphere is cool, kind of trendy and has some nice views of the city. They do have a happy hour which is nice! I think it ends at 7pm.

Went here for breakfast the cook making the Omelets is great!! It took awhile to get some service when we first came in plus the place wasn't busy. My wife ask for the table and booth to be wiped down after watching the bus boy do it, when he wiped it down again he left the seat wet so we couldn't sit down. I had to finally grab a cloth napkin from another table and wipe down the seat ourselves this is why the 3 Stars. For the prices and the location the service should be way better. Now our server was great!!! The breakfast buffet was tasty, with a lot of fresh fruits!!!

Over priced for the food you get, and always slow service. Go here for drinks, not food. They serve food, but almost reluctantly as they are always too busy with the bar it seems. Wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but I guess if you are staying at the hotel and aren't in a rush it's not too bad. My review is based on multiple times going here, as I work in the RenCen. So, it definitely wasn't just an off nice that they were busy. It's like that almost every day. Nice view of Detroit though.

I came to find that "service" in Detroit was nonexistent. I went here with my date for lunch at 1245 pm. We walked in for lunch and sat down. We sat at a table that was cleared, but not wiped off. There was no sign that said to wait for seating, so we sat ourselves. After sitting for 10 minutes, Luis finally came over. He threw down 2 napkins for beverages on the table and started asking about taking a drink order. Seeing there was a huge water puddle on the table and tons of salt/sugar, I asked if he would mind wiping it off. He came back 5 minutes later, wiped it off, left is soaking wet and then left. We didn't hear from him for 10 more minutes. When he finally returned, he put down 2 more napkins, which I proceeded to use to dry the table, since he left it soaking wet after wiping it off 10 minutes prior. He took our order, I got the burger and fries, my date the bowl of corn soup and we got calamari. After 30 minutes of no food, I asked him if our food was going to be coming out anytime soon. He said it would be out any minute. I am not sure why he thought this, since we have been waiting for 30 minutes already. The food came out 3 minutes later. My burger had a tomato, which I ordered without. My date's soup was cold. Still no Calamari. As soon as the food was brought out, he left. I went up to ask him who I needed to talk with to get some ketchup, since he didn't seem to want to stick around to ask how the meal was. He brought some over and I asked him if he could heat the soup, and also check on the calamari, since we were going on 35 minutes at this point. 10 minutes later, the soup was brought back out...warm this time, still not hot. Finally got the calamari. Now, I had to go fill my own water, since Luis was nowhere to be found for quite some time. We finished the meal, and we waited and waited for him to come over with the bill. He said he comped us 25% for all the mistakes. I wasn't looking for any freebies, just my bill so I could end this nightmare of a lunch. However, a 25% discount was an insult. After bringing the bill back out, we still had all the plates on the table, he couldn't even clear the table. Needless to say, there was no tip in order here.

The food is decent, but the service is so terrible that it brings this place down to 2 stars. Unless you look 40+, they don't pay any attention to you. I literally sat at the high table for two hours helping myself to the buffet and not a single person approached me to serve a beverage or give me the bill. I easily could've left without paying, but didn't do so.

Super cool place to get food and drinks. Stayed at the hotel and was hungry one night and decided to give it a try. The service part needs to improve as I waited almost 30 minutes to get service on. If you stay in the hotel, you can get them to charge your room instead, which was very nice.

its a hotel bar. better than it was not as good as it could be. Drinks are pricey but decent as is the food.

Packed after Tigers game and people from Orion festival. Meat market of men sizing up women and it sure was slim pickins of unescoted single ladies. My husband tried the butterscotch pudding on the menu and we ordered a couple beers, to top off our night at the Opera house. (BravoBravo!) Beautiful view and nice decor. Huge space with lots of glass and high ceilings. Neat place to sit for a drink or meet with friends before going elsewhere.

A-Ok sums this place up perfectly. In the lobby of the Marriott this place serves standard salads/sandwiches, etc. Service is deathly slow, but everyone is pleasant. Food is....well....A-Ok. Bacon in the cobb salad was super crumbled....sucks bc I asked for my cobb salad sans bacon. I guess they do tell you to eat your food slow. Pining for bacon in every bite is one way to slow me down. I do not dine on swine. Another note - veggie burger is def made in house. Looked terrific, turns out its mostly rice.

No Service! Staff was busy taking break. Had to go to the bar and get drinks, twice.

Slow service. I ordered the steak salad - steak way over seasoned and over cooked. Drinks, expect slow service. Food- STAY AWAY.

Apparently, my non-in-laws and I have in common a fascination with hotel bars. So when we went to Ren Cen on my last evening in Detroit and saw that both Coach Insignia and 42 Degrees North were both closed for Memorial Day, of course we hopped to Volt. Presumably named after the car, Volt's a semi-sexy lounge in the Marriot, surrounded by massive windows with high-tech icicle lights dangling from them. I love the bar seating! Gianormous armchair stools that you just sink into. Kinda dangerous given that the drinks were darn good, so one might be tempted to spend the night in one's chair. The drinks were great. Most notable at our table was the Blueberry Muffin, featuring burbon and fresh blueberries. I got the ginger pomegrante martini; good and strong, so I made sure to drink it slowly so as not to end up on the floor. There was powdered sugar, apparently, around the rim, but I could have sworn it was flour because it wasn't very sweet (R concurred). But the drink itself was delicious. We split appetizers, all of which were appetizing: thai wings, chips, sweet potato fries, and chicken quesadillas. No complaints there, esp. the quesadillas, which were good and thick and came with this delicious salsa. The service was a-ok. The bartender wasn't very smiley, but she made a darn good drink, so I guess that's forgivable. And the ambiance was great; I can see it becoming more lively at night, though. So, Volt. A great hotel bar experience that my non-in-laws and I can reflect on for ages.

Drinks are overpriced, the location is convenient only if you're staying at the Marriott Renaissance Center or if you work at the center. I had a turkey burger here though it wasn't bad, I definitely feel like the dinner was missing something. It was served with a pickle and some roasted veggies.

I really enjoyed the food at Volt. This past weekend I ate here twice. First I had the lobster bisque which was incredible, creamy with big chunks of lobster in it. The second time I visited, I ordered the cobb salad which was nothing special to look at but all of the ingredients were high quality and so I enjoyed it quite a bit. Volt is a bar/restaurant inside the Marriott Hotel, so the prices are higher than any standard restaurant, but that is expected. The ambiance is nice, especially during the day when you can see both the river and Jefferson Ave. The only reason this place didn't get 5 stars is because the service was incredibly slow. Even when I was just there for lunch and it was only semi-busy it took forever just to get a diet soda and hope that I might eventually order.

I love the Volt Lounge! I work in the Renaissance Center and eat there at least 2 times a week. The waiters are so friendly and helpful and the Salmon dinner with spinach is so good. The food is good but the servers is what put me over the top to come on Yelp and write my first review! They also have WiFi and a great view of the water. The ambiance is nice.

I love the layout of this place. The food was good. The service was great and I really love the touch screen computers for anyone to use while you lounge. It's extremely comfortable and they even have these couch like lounges at the bar. Awesome idea.

I went there last night around 8pm for a beer and a burger. I sat at the bar. After I ordered and got the beer, the bartender never came back. He was far away at the other end, chatting with the other bartender. Maybe they were working. She was looking in my direction, so I waved at her. She waved back. My bartender returned and I ordered the burger with sweet potato fries. He keyed the order into a computer and, not too long afterwards, someone brought my burger and fries to me. The burger was lukewarm. The bacon was not crispy and, in fact, was physically flat. The fries were warmer than lukewarm, but not hot. I don't have a burger and fries very often because this sort of meal is not very healthy. So when I do have it, I really look forward to it and get real disappointed when it turns out to be not worth eating. My philosophy is that unhealthy food has to score higher on the quality/enjoyment scale in order for the meal to average out to be worthwhile. This meal barely made it. When I wanted to pay the bill I couldn't find the bartender. Eventually I realized that he left the tab at the seat next to mine. When I began looking for a pen to sign it, he came over and got me a pen. Well, at least he was a really friendly guy.

I ate here with some friends and have to say the service was by far the worst and slowest I have ever experienced. Which I do not understand because there was only about 5 tables in the whole restaurant at the time. Even though we were sitting right next to he bar, it still took our server 10 minutes to bring a beer. It was such bad service I actually thought it was a joke and someone was going to jump out and tell us we were on a TV show. Food was OK at best, and did not match the description in the menu. On a good note, the view was really nice. I would probably never ever good back here...unless just for a drink with some friends, but I would never ever eat at the restaurant again.

Come here for the drinks and the ambiance. If you're hungry, you may want to venture somewhere else. The bartenders here make pretty good strong drinks (not sure if its because it was Press Preview Days for NAIAS) and it is a popular spot to meet for those staying at the Marriott. There is free wifi and two tables where you can do some work on your laptop inside the bar. It got pretty noisy the nights I went but if you can work through the noise, this is a good place to be. There are plenty of flatscreen tvs to watch the games and a few spots with electrical outlets to juice up your phone. Not a bad spot to kill some time especially if you're staying at the Marriott.

I agree with the review on 1/16/2012. The drinks and ambiance are great. It's a nice relaxed place where you can just hang out. I had the same waitress 2 nights in a row and she was very friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The drinks were good, not too stiff, not too weak. I had a Buffalo Chicken Salad and my husband had a burger. We both thought our dinners were good. But, if we hadn't been as tired we would've went out somewhere. If you're from out of town definitely check out another place rather than hanging out inside the hotel.

This is a neat place. Small bar, good rates at happy hour, small but sufficiently varied menu. A good place to hang out with colleagues after a workday.
