Fairly large portions of pretty good American/Chinese food for really cheap. I've gotten carry out from here a lot and have never been disappointed. My faves are almond chicken and sesame chicken. Parking can be a hassle since the parking lot is kind of small.

Best turkey burger in Detroit, HANDS DOWN!! Alfredo potato and turkey chops too. This place used to be in a liquor store on 6 mile, but they moved about a year ago. Newer, nicer digs now, carry out only as before. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed!!

Edibles Rex Catering

I can't even begin to describe how much I love Edibles Rex Catering. My husband and I chose their "Strolling Supper" for our September wedding and could not have been happier with the end result. We were slightly worried about going with them since we didn't have a chance to sample the food beforehand, but it sounded delicious and everyone was so helpful over the phone that we knew we had to give it a shot. Our choices: Beef tenderloin and charbroiled salmon filet - Phenomenal. There was even a guy there to carve the beef for us. Fancy! Mediterranean food spread - Everything was delicious and perfect for an appetizer or side. Loads of grape leaves, hummus, tabbouleh, pita bread, olives, pickled beets, all presented beautifully on a tiered stand. Smashed potato bar - I don't even know where to begin with this. They provide martini glasses to hold your garlic mashed potatoes, which you can load up with all your favorite toppings - mushroom gravy, cheddar cheese, green onions, crispy bacon, you name it. We actually have photos of my husband seductively eating his third helping of potatoes. Everyone was obsessed with this whole setup, and every time I eat mashed potatoes I want to put them in a martini glass. Ice cream sundae bar - As good as it sounds. Delicious ice cream, every sauce you can think of, and plenty of sprinkles, chocolate chips, and nuts. It went great with the cake. We stocked the bar ourselves per their recommendation, and they provided a bartender for a very reasonable rate. All the staff was friendly and attentive. Not only was the food out of this world, but they also helped us with other details. We got married at the Flynn Pavilion on Belle Isle, which provided us with tables and chairs. Edibles Rex outsourced linen and chair cover rentals and coordinated everything so the companies knew when everything had to be delivered and picked up. It couldn't have gone more smoothly and the price was very reasonable for everything they did for us. If I knew everything was going to turn out so wonderfully, I wouldn't have stressed so dang much. We definitely have Edibles Rex to thank for taking so much stress out of the planning process and working hard to make sure everything was perfect.

Tina Tibbi and her Golden Spice staff helped my daughter and me plan and execute the perfect summer garden party wedding. Tina was generous with her time, patiently exploring ideas with me by phone as I made arrangements from northern Michigan for the wedding in Detroit. She met with my daughter, offering the kind of assistance you would expect from a wedding planner, rather than a caterer. She was knowledgable in all areas of planning, and consistently went the "extra mile" to research products and their sources. She listened and "got" the wedding theme, as well as our budget, and created a menu that beautifully matched them both. Our guests raved about the food, and especially about the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The "day of" coordination was flawlessly smooth, and allowed me to enjoy the wedding rather than oversee details. I highly recommend Golden Spice to anyone who wants a perfect wedding! As one reviewer wrote, Tina (and her staff) are passionate about their work and it shows. Connie K.
I planned a Detroit wedding remotely from my home in the South and did not have time with a busy work schedule to get all the details right. Tina at Golden Spice worked tirelessly with my mom and best friend to make sure all of our food, bar and service were absolutely perfect. We chose to do Detroit-themed stations instead of a sit-down meal and my guests loved it. I can't possibly imagine anything I would have changed. The food, the staff and service were impeccable, and for those of you planning large events, it's really important that your caterer gets along with your venue staff, and Tina is great with that. Tina was also able to answer all of our questions in a timely manner and was very professional. We are so thankful to have chosen Golden Spice for our wedding!
Golden Spice recently catered a party my husband and I had, and they were FANTASTIC! We were married in Jamaica and wanted to throw a reception/party for the friends and family who could not make it down there on our wedding day. Tina was SO great to work with; she had wonderful and creative ideas to incorporate our 'island' theme into the food and decor. The food itself was fantastic as well! Fresh and tasty, and by far the best wedding/buffet style food I've had. Many of our guests commented on how tasty everything was. We had Jamaican jerk chicken specially made, and it was a hit. The mashed potato bar was also a great success, and the passed hor d'oeuvres, especially the bacon wrapped water chestnuts, were divine. Tina was helpful the entire planning process, staying in regular communication and answering all of our questions. She and her staff were professional and helpful during the event, and took care of all the set up and clean up. I would highly recommend Golden Spice to anyone looking for an amazing catering experience. Great food, great staff and very reasonable prices.

Stopped by this hold over from Detroit's heyday. Located on a stretch of Michigan Ave. littered with strip clubs and gas stations, this place must have been happening during the Tigers' World Series run in the 80's. Long bar to the left, several tables strewn with poker chips and newspapers from what appeared to be several years to the right, we sat at the bar and enjoyed the warm welcome from the pleasant bartender who aptly presented me a two dollar Budweiser bottle. No taps, but two dollar bottles make up for it. There were two regulars in control of the pull down projector screen behind the bar and had chosen some unfamiliar John Wayne film. It didn't take long to decide that this was one of the coziest and most over looked bars in the city. Go there now before it falls to the wayside like so many other beautiful watering holes.

6/20/13 update: Went back. It was nice. Friendly. I was the only one under 60, but I got into a social security debate with some elderly gentlemen over some Milwaukee's Best. Anyone who tells you this place is "scary" or "in a bad part of town" needs to be euthanized.
