In my previous review, I gave District 2 stars because they no longer offer Indian food and the wait time for the food to come out was pretty long. The owner contacted me about the situation, apologizing for the experience and offering to make up for it. That alone makes a big difference and shows that they really care about their customers and want to make sure that they're taken care of. Reiterating from my last review, the staff is fantastic, and the food itself (even sans the Indian options) is really tasty. I will be back to The District to give it another try. I'd heard from a couple people that District underwent an ownership change in the last 6 months or so, so it was the current owner that contacted me. A big change is going to lead to some growing pains in any restaurant, that just is what it is. The fact that she's taken the quality of her restaurant's service to heart is really impressive and really makes me want to give District another shot. I'll update again after my next visit.

Stopped here for dinner before a concert at Joe Louis. The Reuben is the best I've ever had- extremely lean and so flavorful! Just the right amount of sour kraut & dressing. Fries were good, coleslaw was very good. The ham & cheese melt my partner had was also very tasty. Nice craft beer selection & they made me a Spanish coffee that was beautiful & yummy! Server & bartender were both very friendly & welcoming.

This review is only about the Indian Food. First of all make sure you free up your meetings and be prepared for a long waiting time for your dishes to be served. There wasn't too many choices, and it even says "Little Indian Menu". We ordered Samosa, Butter Chicken, Hyderabadi Dum Biryani and Mango Lassi. Samosa was little oily, but it was made on the spot so it is normal. Yet the taste wan't very bad. Butter Chicken was little tomoto-ish. Chicken is properly cooked, tender, and delicious. It wasn't the Hyderabadi biryani that you eat in Hyderabad, but it was very good. Spices were mildly cooked the way they supposed to be. Wasn't spicy. Was hot, neatly, and freshly prepared with care. Texture was neat and food presentation is good. Mango lassi was great. Waitresses were very helpful. Lastly, you can undeniably give an extra star for their decent prices. So what to expect? You don't get heavily cooked, and processed food with authentic smell. You will get a slightly lighter version of "I can get decent Indian food in Detroit Downtown", without giving the taste away. By the way place has nice ambience inside and an outdoor patio sitting is also available.

Have been twice this week and have enjoyed the 2 Indian dishes I tried. The Navrattan Korma (Mixed vegetables prepared in chef's special sauce with rice) was OUTSTANDING. The Palak Paneer (Spinach and paneer (Indian cheese) and curry sauce with rice) was very good. Excellent addition to the Downtown Detroit dining scene by adding the variety of Indian food.

They used to serve pretty good Indian food here, but they've since taken it off the menu. Great salads- a bit pricey, but worth it.

Apparently, the Indian food idea didn't take off. The menu has been redone to be more mainstream (think burgers and sandwiches), and I suppose that must be in response to demand. But the revised menu is much less fun than the previous, and I have to knock a star off for that. The ambiance and service continue to be good, and this is a solid place for a good lunch in downtown Detroit.

My office frequents this place because of it's location, but really, that's about it. Like others have said, they no longer serve Indian food since new management took over a few months ago. Their food is decent. Their burgers are good, and they let you substitute the black bean burger into any of them. And they have decent soups and salads that can be a little overpriced, but not terribly. They also have a small patio which is shaded for the most part by the people mover, but it makes for a good place to eat lunch or have a drink for happy hour outside after work. However, that's where the positives drop off. The worst part of this place is that it is SO slow. I don't think they understand that not everyone can take an hour and a half for lunch. There's no way you can walk to this place, order, eat, pay, and walk back to your office within an hour. It's because the service is hit or miss, and the food ALWAYS takes a really long time to come out. Also, on my most recent trip, the server didn't write down our orders. There were three of us, and all three of us had our orders f'd up. If you don't write it down, you better be able to get it right, because I don't have time to sit there while you fix all of our orders because the food already took over a half hour to get to our table after ordering. They just need to step it up and make things quicker. They can also turn down the AC because no matter what time of day or year it is, the place is about 50 degrees.

I really enjoyed my visit to this quaint must see destination. It's very quaint and nice, but it was a little difficult to find. Just keep looking! It's inside a large apartment building and it isn't clearly marked. Just ask the attendants at desks. The food was really good, really fast, and very reasonably priced! Plus we got 10% off for checking in on yelp! Loved it, highly recommend!
