Uhm, what a place: when you managed to get in and not being asked at least three times for "some dimes", you will find a very messy shop area and a hot-food bar offering subs & specialities behind thick plastic windows, secured like Fort Knox (ok, looking outside and to the late evening hours, that makes perfectly sense :) ). It´s a bit too much for my "well feeling factor": ambience together with local customer does not make me feeling comfortabel at all....

It's a little dirty and cramped, but their food is pretty good. You get a lot for what you're paying for. I got an 8 inch turkey sub with tomato, cheese, lettuce, mayo and mustard and it was less than $6. Good for a quick filling, cheap meal on the go.

Why go anywhere else for a sub sandwich? Despite the unassuming street side appearance, this place has delicious deli style sandwiches. They cut the meat super thin and slice the cheese while you watch them construct your sandwich. The ingredients are fresh and the staff are friendly. There are a few things that could improve, however. First is the grocery. Perhaps this served some utility before Detroit had real grocery stores (e.g., Whole Foods), but the old shelving, anemic variety, and poor lighting make this less than desirable. Why not close this and just be a great deli? Perhaps add seating instead? The bullet-proof glass is a little over the top as this is in a nicer part of Detroit and it makes it hard to communicate with the staff. There is also a lot of loitering in and around the store which understandably is a difficult problem to solve. A good first step may be to stop selling gas station items like joint wraps, "male enhancement" pills, and smoking accessories.

This is a great place stop in for a sandwich or grab some staples (eggs, milk, etc.) you may have forgotten at the grocery store. They offer the regular convenient store stock as well, but their deli counter is great. The sandwiches are quality because they slice the meats and cheeses for each order. There are also pre-packaged sandwiches, hard-boiled eggs, and more in a cooler near the front. On top of everything, the service is wonderful!

I freaking love this place. Without an exception, when I am staying down the street at the Holiday Inn, I will immediately come down to this place to stock up on groceries for the week. I have gone to this place so many times that they know me by name. They have even asked how my daughter is. Their chicken wings are excellent. Everything that I could really want is there. Granted the bullet proof shielding is a little ominous, but great guys. I am not asked for change walking up to the place. I feel safe inside and the selection is exactly what I would expect from a place this size. Hands down, the best place in downtown Detroit Deli wise and for stocking your fridge for a period of time.
