Tried this location for the first time on 9/8/14,had bought a Groupon . Excellent food that day, went back on 9/12/14. What a difference four days makes. TERRIBLE! It was lunch time but not busy, the food was not fresh tasted like it was left from the day before, will never go back and we paid for pound cake and didn't get it.

Umm, yup, it's on the second floor. Of the transit center. But we thought we'd try it out. We were definitely hoping for some tasty food with a kick and we weren't let down. Quick service and friendly staff. Groupons can be found, too.

Visiting this restaurant today was a new experience for me. I had never been to the Rosa Parks Transit Center, and there is no sign outside that indicates a restaurant lies therein. Thankfully, I went on the recommendation of a friend. You'll find the stairs right when you walk into the transit center. The upstairs (which is cleaner and quieter than downstairs) area includes tables and chairs, and free wifi is available. Other than Louisiana Creole Gumbo, there really isn't anything else on the upper level except for some tasteful signs about the life and legacy of Rosa Parks. Are we going to a restaurant for free Wifi? No, of course not. We're going there because of the delicious food! What more needs to be said? This place is within walking distance of pretty much the entire downtown business district. It's around the corner from Campus Martius, so if you live or work downtown you have no excuse to miss this place.

Check off another hidden Detroit gem I've tried for lunch. This place is on the 2nd floor of the bus depot at 2nd and Michigan Ave. The original is on Gratiot, across the street from where Joe Muirs used to stand. I didn't have a good experience there (about 20 years ago). But the guys in my office swore by this one in the bus terminal. I ordered the Old South gumbo and it was fantastic. Shrimp was cooked perfectly and the sausage had just enough bite. The side sample of red beans and rice was outstanding. A little on the sweet side, but I could have eaten a large container of that. Reasonably priced. Metered parking right on 2nd street. And there's a mini police station inside the terminal so you fraidy-cats can visit with confidence.

Only rating the Red Beans and Rice. The Red Beans and Rice are outstanding. The corn muffins that accompany the Red Beans and Rice are excellent. If you like andouille sausage, you can add it for an extra charge. Its worth it if you like andouille sausage. I have tried most things on the menu and its ok, but the Red Beans and Rice are outstanding. Go to the original location on Gratiot at the corner of St. Aubin for the "ambiance."

Got a hankering for some good soul food? If you work or live in downtown Detroit, you're in luck. Occupying the second floor of the Rosa Parks Transit Center is the Louisiana Creole Gumbo restaurant. Some may be familiar with the name as they do have another location in the Eastern Market area. Louisiana Creole Gumbo is a small place overlooking Cass Ave. The facility basically consists of a window to order at and a seating area. That is all they really need. Despite being inside of a bus depot, the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. On 04/18/12, I enjoyed their pork chop lunch with a side of green beans. The food was tasty. The pork chop was tender. However, I did have an eat-ability (is that a word?) issue; the utensils they supplied me with were too flimsy to deal with the thick chop. So, I overcame my problem by picking it up with my hands and eating it like a man. My coworker ordered the baked chicken with a side of mac and cheese. It looked good. He was pleased with his choice, too. The food portions were ample and the prices were reasonable. The staff was friendly. We were greeted on arrival and acknowledged when we were leaving. They were efficient. Our orders were taken promptly and the waiting time for our food was minimal. Perhaps because they are new, the staff was very interested in our opinion. I appreciate when a business solicits feedback from its customers. Louisiana Creole Gumbo is off to a great start. It is nice to finally see a restaurant in the Rosa Parks Transit Center. Good food, low prices, and efficient service definitely warrant a repeat visit.

Very good New Orleans food in Detroit! It's a little scary getting there, you may feel like you're risking your life going into the bus station and heading up to the second floor. And for some reason it is extremely hot up in there! But it will be all worth it. The jambalaya was one of the best I've had. Maybe the best outside of New Orleans. Comes with red beans & rice and corn bread which were good too. I think the owner and cook greeted us, boy can she cook! I will definitely hit this place every time I'm in Detroit.
