Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. Another great gas station . . . for me to dine in! Inspired by Janelle "Putting the P in taco"'s review of tortitas El Rojito, I finally stopped in here and it was great. Maybe there should be a new Yelp category: "Taco-stand Inside Gas-station" or TIG. They had an extensive menu including tortas, tamales, champurrado and tacos. The latter could be ordered flour or corn, fried or "soft". I had the corn tacos which were lightly grilled, not unlike the aforementioned El Rojito. These were bigger and meatier with your choice of prep. They were made to order in front of a bright and shiny glass counter. You could have them any way you want from cilantro and onion to cheesy with guacamole. I went cilantro, onion and lime, with some outstanding smokey "hot" sauce. They were delightful. The place is also surprisingly nice for being a gas station. They have a large selection of beverages inside coolers in front of which you are sitting. They had 4-5 tables I believe. There were 3 people working the counter and a steady stream of customers which was great to see. They were kicking out some food and it all looked great and fresh.

I came across this place when I stopped in to get gas. I was hungry so I decided to get a burrito. Who'd thought that you would find the best and authentic Mexican food in SE MI inside a gas station?? I regularly stop by on my way home. I almost always get a burrito b/c it's the easiest to eat while driving. I would eat here every day if my office was located closer. Cheap, authentic, and delicious. Doesn't get much better than that.

Yelp reviews brought me to Las Cazuelas. The ladies that took my carryout order and gave me my order when I arrived are very nice, and answer the phone in Spanish. (This is usually a good sign- they assume their customers are Latin American/Hispanic, which in Detroit means there are some hungry Mexicans coming here that know good Mexican food) The grilled steak burrito had some rubbery gristle in it, but had good flavor. The chicken chimichanga, rice, frijoles and tortilla chips/salsa were pretty good. I would come back.

This is tucked into a gas station on Livernois close to Michigan Ave. Yes, it's a little bizarre to have a restaurant in a gas station, but don't knock it till you try it. This is my favorite Mexican place of all time. Truly. One of my biggest issues with a lot of Mexican restaurants is the freshness of their ingredients. Surprisingly, this place is extremely fresh with high quality ingredients. I usually get their small nachos, and I literally salivate while they make it. Their tacos and quesadillas are also amazing.They also make their own juice! Be warned: There are a few schools nearby and it gets COMPLETELY crazy after school. The owner has banned students from entering, but sometimes, that is hard to monitor. I am a teacher at one of the stated schools, and I avoid this place right after school. You'll be waiting a very long time to pay for your food.

Who would have thought that a gas station would have such good food? Well it's possible and Las Cazuelas Grill is it. I tried them because of Brian S.'s review and go back because of the flavor. The staff all speaks fluent Spanish and English. The food is prepared in front of you and the tacos are plentiful. My favorite: Cazuelas salad: not for 1 person alone (unless you are super starving). They take a flour tortilla shell and drop it in a deep fryer to cook it in the shape of a bowl. Sounds bad for you? It probably is, but it was good. You pile on lettuce, tomatoes, guac (if you like it), sour cream, and your choice of meat. I went with grilled steak. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I finished the entire bowl. I also ended up in a sleep comatose from being so full. It is more of something to share. Light, crispy, and full of flavor. They offer call ahead takeout, ice cream, and smoothies too. I like this little known spot.

"Gas Station Tacos" is what we referred to this place as. I tell everyone in my little suburban neighborhood about them and they are amazed. The women behind the counter work hard and fast and make the best tacos in the city. Also, don't forget the chips and salsa. Sooooooo good.

Every time I go there they impress me even more! Great food great service. Love the chimichanga and combo fajita. The waiter was great she brought us the food supper fast and was very attentive. Would deffinately tell people about this place.

Never thought I'd get food from a gas station but I keep hearing great things about this place and they had such great yelp reviews.... I decided to drive all the way to southwest Detroit just to go to the gas station...not for gas but....for tacos... andddddddd I was NOT disappointed! They were DELICIOUS! I had 3 flour tacos...chicken, steak and beef...they were all great but the steak taco was the best. I can't wait to go back so I can try their fish tacos, their shrimp tacos and I forgot the name of it...but it was like a Mexican sandwich I was told....hmmmm I can't wait to try it!! Only thing I would like is for their hot sauce...to be hotter...and next time I'll get extra cilantro on everything! Nice and friendly staff and delicious tacos... Try them out for yourself!

I work super close to here and I got a groupon, so what the heck...I thought I would give gas station food a try! I'm always up for adventures! They try to combine fast food with a sit down restaurant. You wait in line, order, sit down and eat amidst the chips and pop, THEN get up to get your bill and go pay at the gas station. Good food, decent prices, weird situation. Would I go back? Yes. Would it be my first choice in the area? Only if I was in a rush.
