Katoi has graced us with their presence in Ann Arbor, occupying the old Jerusalem Garden space. The people that are running this place are driven by one thing: passion. I've been here twice, and the menu has been different each time, depending on what's fresh I presume. The complexity of the flavors they're achieving easily make it one of my favorite restaurants in town. It's not what I'd call a typical Thai place, and this is not a bad thing. Instead, they're taking Thai flavors and using their creativity to bring us something completely new. That said, they still have some dishes you're probably familiar with. One thing they seemed to have both times I've been is pork ramen. So. Good. I'd recommend going with a few people and sharing plates so you get to try all of the different flavors. On your way out, grab some chocolates from Bon Bon Bon, a popup chocolatier also hailing from Detroit. These chocolates are equally complex and delicious.

I couldn't wait to try their food but I was incredible disappointed. Ordered the pork and beef dishes and spent $26. There were large chunks of fat in both dishes. They didn't have any knives so I had to take the pork dish home to remove the fat. It was disgusting. They were at the Motor City Wine

I'm in love, and I don't care who knows it. Katoi stole my heart after one meal, and now that I've had it twice, I can say my love is real. Katoi is a food truck that sits behind Two James Spirits in Corktown (which is also really great!). You can order right from a little window in the bar and they bring the food out to you when it's ready. If I just brought this food to you, you would never have guessed it came from a food truck. It's done so well, that I can't even explain how good it is. Earlier this year during a business trip in NYC, I ate a papaya salad from a thai restaurant that I crave all the time. Katoi has one that is exactly the same, and I couldn't be happier about it. It's spicy and delicious, and the reason I instantly fell in love. It's a must try. I've had a lot of their other food as well because both times I've gone, we went with a big group that just ordered a ton of items and we shared them (definitely the way to go if you can). The ribs smell awful. Tthey come to your table and you think that someone with disgusting BO just walked by. But someone told me to get past the smell and eat one, so I did, and I didn't regret it one bit. They're really delicious. I've also tried the Brussels sprouts, Khao Soi, the Thai Fried Chicken, the sliders, and a lot more. Everything is good. Check it out for sure, and I doubt you will be disappointed!

Note: This is a review for their pop-up in Ann Arbor. Food was decent. Had the Green papaya salad, noodle dish and grilled chicken. Grilled chicken was good, papaya salad was fine but nothing special and the noodle dish was decent but not great. I wasn't impressed and I was really hoping to like it because I haven't yet found a good thai restaurant here in Michigan. Also, I expected it to be cheaper, but an entree was ~$15 which is definitely way overpriced for what you get. For what you get, I would have thought $10 for an entree would be a little steep. We ended up spending $~40 for two people without any drinks. Summary: skip it and let me know if you find some good thai food around here.

Whoever marked down Katoi two points for not 'spelling a bargain ' must have forgotten that the price is en pointe for folks willing to spend $12.00 on a drink. The menu has served up some of the best ramen soup I have ever had. The chicken was crispy AND moist, the spare ribs were tempura fried, and the Brussel sprouts, oh my yummiest. They put a delicious twist on what could have been very average and boring Thai. My only wish is that they could expand their hours. 5pm on Weds is a long time to wait when you've been dreaming about those Brussel sprouts all weekend.

We went to Katoi in exile and had a great dinner. We lived in Thailand for 3 years and have been looking for authentic Thai since we moved back. The green papaya salad was spot on delicious. We also had the Thai fried chicken sandwich and it was fantastic. The only thing that was not spot on was the Khao Soi. It was good but not great. We look forward to eating at the new restaurant when it opens. The staff was fantastic and the venue was cute. Loved eating outside. Some suggestions to add to the menu: moo kratiem phrik thai ( stir fried pork with garlic and pepper) or phat krapoa (stir fried chicken with Thai basil).

I'm writing this because our meal was exceptional and I want this restaurant to do well. The reason I gave 3/5 stars is because of the service, not the food. The woman who was at the front of the house taking orders last Friday could not have been more snobbish and unwelcoming. She spoke to us like we were idiots. It's this kind of childish hipster eye-rolling attitude that makes me want to not go back. I'm not sure if she was just an employee or one of the owners, but seriously, get that under control, because I know a lot of people that would never come back to a place with service that was that appalling. That said, the food was phenomenal and the person that brought us our meal was very nice. I lived in Chiang Mai for two months and had Khao Soi almost every day. It was a totally joy to have that dish again. There's is by far the best I've had in the States, and that's been after a lot of searching.

The Detroit pop-up restaurant scene is crowded, but Katoi sets itself apart with fun dishes and bold flavors. Attention Ramen fans: if you think Johnny Noodle King reigns supreme in Southwest Detroit, think again. Katoi's duck ramen is luxurious and certainly the best I've had in the city.

Katoi has joined Two James Distillery, which is a win win for the area. I'm not certain that Thai street food is the perfect accompaniment to a "Nicely Done," but after sampling a few offerings, I wasn't disappointed! We tried the charred carrots, crispy spare ribs, and the grilled mushrooms. The carrots (lime, peanuts, cococut cream, basil) and ribs (palm sugar glaze) were not like any preparation I'd had before, and both were delicious! The mushrooms were also very well done. The portions were moderate and enough to share. The girl taking orders was polite, and friendly, but should be more informative, as the menu isn't completely transparent on portions or execution. The only disappointment was the price point. "Small plates" served in paper cartons and plastic silverware should be a perceived bargain, and they're not. Katoi has the potential to really complete what was missing from Two James, but they need to find a way to spell bargain.

Insanely delicious takes on Thai food. Chef Brad kicks up the flavor and textures of everything he touches. Soup like you only dreamed of, damn tasty sliders, super crispy and flavorful chicken, and yummy yummy veggies. Looking forward to then opening a full restaurant soon!

I cannot wait for Katoi the restaurant to open up. I had Katoi the food truck twice and oh, it was so good! That Thai fried chicken - amazing. With the green papaya slaw - - I wish I had some now. I liked getting delicious food with my bourbon. But they definitely deserve their own space.

Incredible. I've never had anything like this food. Couldn't ask for a better local either. Been back again and again and again and it only gets better.

A hidden culinary gem. Katoi serves thai food out of a truck behind Two James Distillery. But it's not your Johnny Average Phad Thai, Fried Rice fare. It's a delicate balanced of sweet and sour, cool and spicy innovative cuisine brought to you by renowned chef Brad Greenhill. The gourmet food is served on cardboard trays. Much more fun than a stuffy restaurant. I suggest you bring a bunch a friends, try a myriad of things especially the ribs, carrots and brisket. I also recommend the "Summer Soda" cocktail from the Two James menu - - a bright, citrusy, drink with cucumber that perfectly offsets the spicier dishes.

I have eaten Chef Brad's food twice. He is a fantastic chef! So happy he's doin this Katoi food truck thang. I first had Katoi at Revolver. The curry noodle dish was really good!! I've had some pretty awesome Thai food, so I have to say the flavor of the papaya salad needed to be altered and the chicken and rice needed some tlc as well. But overall, I thought it was great! Looking forward to trying it again!

All about the food. The chefs at Katoi have sequestered themselves into a Truck turned Thai food laboratory. It is evident they are passionate about what they are doing; the food is F-in tasty and INTERESTING, and they are working out of a truck with only one tiny window... Their Khao Soy soup (curry coconut broth) is complex, comforting, and delicious! Their Thai fried chicken is crispier than a college girls skin after a Spring Break trip to Cancun! The sauces it comes with are the perfect a-cou-tremont, too. I asked to see their kitchen... as I was curious as to how food so dynamic and profound can be created in just a truck... Low and behold, it was a laboratory with fresh ingredients and passionate people doing their thang. Good werk... keep rocking. -pk

I recently returned from a trip to Thailand and I can now safely say that Katoi is some of the best Thai food I've had. Its one of the only Thai places I've seen with Khao Soi, which is an amazing red curry noodle soup from Chiang Mai. I can't wait for the opening of the full restaurant!
