I work for an agency that serves lunch every single day to the homeless in Detroit and every other week we have "Feed the Need", where a restaurant can come in and serve their food. Today we had the pleasure of having Detroit Athletic Club serving lunch to the hundreds of homeless people in our community. I would first off like to say thank you for coming in and doing this. Second, my office sits near the lobby of our building and I don't think that I have ever heard so many happy people in my life. Everybody raved about how amazing the food was. Seeing people who are down on their luck with smiles on their faces was a true joy for me. Detroit Athletic Club showed that EVERY person deserves a great meal. I really hope that the owners or managers get a chance to read this to see just how much their food changed people's day. Absolutely Amazing!

Nice club but the dining room is pretty average. Good table service is harder to find than a pair of jeans. Meh.

I'm not sure why there are reviews based on the cost of meals here. They are not really that expensive and WELL worth the price. We've toured the kitchens and it is AMAZING. There is a bakery where all the breads, rolls, and sweets are made daily. The kitchen even has it's own butcher who creates the most amazing charcuterie. The sausages, bacon, etc are all made in house. The ice creams are all made fresh every day. I don't mean a mix in a machine. I mean Milk, Cream, sugar...REAL ICE CREAM! Be sure to get the sampler. It's only $6 and you get 5 cones with different ice creams. Everything is made from fresh ingredients, the service is impeccable. The staff treats everyone with kindness and respect. Love it here!

I have to say that this place was fabulous! First of all the staff is extremely friendly and really make the experience a personal one. Our waiter Daryl was phenomenal. The meal was well paced. Mistakes were quickly corrected. He was certainly attentive. The atmosphere was nice. I don't necessarily think that a jacket and tie were necessary. I was in a nice dress and actually felt a little over dressed. It could be because the bricks, which is quite casual is just a breath away. The decor is ok. The artwork is nice and the fresh flowers were gorgeous! The food was fabulous! I had two tastings which are two small portions of dinner. I loved that I could try two different entrees. I had the veal, which was incredible, and the lamb which was pretty good. It had a slightly gamey taste. My dining partners both had the pork chop. Very large portion however I thought it looked slightly dry. For dessert we had the sugar free panna cotta, which was glorified chocolate pudding. I appreciated the fact that they had a sugar free selection. We also had the warm chocolate pudding. Not so great. A tiny piece of dry cake. The pistachio ice cream was great!!!!! Home made ice cream. Can't beat it!!! Then.... Our waiter comes out with 6 mini ice cream cones. He said they're celebrating national ice cream month. Although we were stuffed we ate every last bite. Overall it was a very nice experience. I would be happy to return!

Excellent Food!! Not overly expensive at all! The Grill Room at the Detroit Athletic Club is a wonderful place within the club where great meals are had. First of, I was invited by a member to have dinner and discuss business so I don't count the price of the membership within the meal. Honestly, the prices are not high at all for the quality and portion of food you get here. The service was perfect. Darrell, our server, was one of the more charismatic and entertaining people I've come across. He really made the meal that much more special. The prices are comparable to any other fine dining restaurant you'll come across. I started with the Duck Charcuterie as an appetizer. The soups on the menu look great but I stuck with the charcuterie. Another wonderful thing you can do is get a tasting of several dishes as opposed to the full entree. I ordered a tasting of the Cocoa and Espresso Rubbed Beef Medallion and the Shrimp and Jumbo Sea Scallops Fettucine. The duck charcuterie was good. The pates and mousse were a bit pungent, but the duck flavor was definitely there. There was a good portion of meats to sample that I could have shared, but nobody seemed too thrilled to try. There was also pastrami slices to accompany the pates. The Espresso and Cocoa rubbed Beef Medallion was great. The filet was so thick and it was actually a bit of trouble to cut through. I ordered it rare so the pinkish blue center was a sight for all carnivores to drool over. The filet is probably better served a bit more cooked because I did have trouble getting my knife through without the whole filet pressing against the knife. The taste was wonderful though. I didn't pick up on the subtlety of the cocoa or espresso, but the pure beefy flavor was more than enough to warrant getting this dish over and over again. The shrimp and scallop fettucine was wonderful as well. The fettucine was not tossed in cream sauce and instead was sauteed with vegetables and tomato based sauce. The jumbo shrimp were huge and was simply seasoned. The scallops were amazing. They jumped out as the star of the dish as they were plump, tender, and incredibly meaty. The taste was fantastic. It had that incredibly meaty texture and was grilled to damn perfection. I couldn't believe we could survive dessert, but we did. I ordered the homemade ice cream tasting. I shouldn't have. As I ordered the ice cream tasting, Darrell (our server) just snickered after he took our dessert order and walked away. When he came back, I could see why he was grinning. The ice cream tasting consisted of 6 different ice cream cones, each with a giant scoop of their popular homemade ice cream. The flavors were coffee, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, pistacchio, and peanut butter. If you ate too much, I would suggest you stay away from this. But those of you reading this probably won't do that, so my next suggestion would be to share it with someone at least. Wonderful place. Wonderful food with a beautiful ambiance (mini symphony playing in the main dining hall), Our server was fantastic and he really made sure this was a night I'd enjoy. Well worth the price of eating here, but not sure about the membership (find someone to get you in!)

Common folk beware... this place is ripe with opportunity for committing social faux paus. But don't worry because you won't find yourself here by accident - you have to be or know a member of the DAC to make a reservation. I had a hard time picking a rating for this place because it's just not my scene. I can appreciate the history of the building and the club, but any restaurant that serves an amuse bouche and segregates people based on dress code makes me feel pompous by association (not to mention inadequate due to my lack of skeet shooting experience). To add to the awkwardness, the host greeted my friend and I as "The Allinghams" and I had to resist the temptation to flash my empty ring finger and call him out on his sexist assumption. The food was okay but nothing to rave about.

Great food. Impecable Service. Great that they keep low-class cell phone talkers out of this place! PS- Late night buffets after theater performances are incredible

The Grill Room on the main floor of the DAC is good. I've had their perch, their filet, which is always good, lamb, pretty much everything on the menu is good. I've eaten there for years. It's business casual on "the bricks" and formal (ties required) on "the carpet." I only give it three stars because although the food is good, the staff is freaking slow. And they have this way of enforcing their "no cell phone" policy by slipping you a card that says something like "please refrain from using your cell phone" or something lame like that. Dinner, even for two people, often takes 2.5 hours because they're just soooo slow. The only reason I eat there is pretty much because I have to when I'm staying at the DAC. Which I'm never doing again.
