Bread Basket Deli is right in my neighborhood but i was never really interested in going in. But, one day my husband decided he wanted to stop there for lunch. The place was ok but i wouldnt lose any sleep if i didnt go back. They had half of the place closed off for some reason, and there were just too many people crammed into that tiny space. The prices were a little high for me, and the food was only so so. I have only been once, so i cant speak on the whole menu, but the corned beef and pastrami wasnt all that hot. I may go again if my husband drags me, so i will be sure to survey the menu a little longer before i order.

I know you've seen the signs "World's Best Corned Beef" and "Detroit's Best Corned Beef" and like me you get duped into patronage. I don't know about your experiences, but I always walk out of those places slightly dissatisfied. My non-existent without tastebuds and sight grandmother could have made a better sandwich. I get fixated on asking myself, the best compared to what? Bread Basket Deli is not one of THOSE places. How did i end up eating here? Well, for one Real Detroit and Metro Times alike has deemed the joint honorable enough to frequently dote on this deli. Also, my Sunday afternoon plans to eat at a local Coney Island was halted after seeing the new, inflated prices for a chicken pita and corned beef sandwich. My boyfriend suggested that we finally try the "Bread Basket." We ordered the "United Meat," which consists of corned beef, pastrami, swiss cheese on an onion roll with Russian dressing. I got the regular at $9.95 and he opted for thr extra meat. The extra meat is 14 ounces and priced at $11.95. We ate in the car, too hungry to drive all the way back home. There is not seating area. If you are one of those sandwich eaters that create illustrious deckers, pieces of art: You know the Jenga sandwiches the you place in the middle of the plate. The ones you have walk slowly from the counter to the kitchen table or its going to topple over; this is your place. They offer corned beef, pastrami, peppered beef, roasted brisket/beef, turkey breast, turkey pastrami, baked ham, salami, smoked turkey; and you're more than welcomed to add an egg. The varities of breads include rye, pumpernickel, kaiser & onion roll and toasted white or wheat. The deli has baskets of your fried favorites and other sides. The sandwich is so big and good that satisfaction is guaranteed.

Great deli food here. The service is a tad slow, but kind. The meats are tender and thinly sliced. Be prepared to spend a decent amount of money though. If you're a deli fanatic like am it's worth the cash. I had the corn beef and my girlfriend had the hot turkey rueben. Both excellent. We also enjoyed some of the sweet potato fries. Delightful. Definitely worth a go.

Introduced to the united meats sandwich (corned beef, pastrami, swiss, coleslaw and Russian dressing on toasted rye) by my husband who is from Detroit. Every time we are in town, this is my first stop (after seeing my in-laws, of course). Wish that there was one in Atlanta.

Corned beef piled high...crunchy crust rye bread and yummy cole slaw. This is what I was hoping I'd get...but I am so often disappointed in corned beef sandwiches. Not so at the Bread Basket. I have driven by a hundred times and never stopped....so glad I did today!!

I had a pastrami sandwich which had great flavor, was a generous portion, but was served somewhere between cool and warm. Unfortunately the sandwich was overshadowed by the fact that the restaurant was dirty. Now I know that cleanliness is very subjective and what's dirty to some May be acceptable to others but when you sit at the counter and see visible dust build-up, debris on the floor, finger smudges on counter tops and glass surfaces...you get the picture. Then there was the staff behind the counter. The gentleman preparing the food was quiet and polite and did his job. Unfortunately the lady taking the orders---not so much. She was loud, boisterous, and shrill. Remember, this is a small place. And that intensified when she had some of her church members come in for lunch! I think I heard about their mutual friend who had been sick and passed away ( sorry for your loss) and there was some other banter between them. Again, all done loudly. Anyway, it made for a crummy dinning experience. The only reason I gave two stars was for the sandwich itself. In the future, I'll make the drive to another deli for my HOT pastrami sandwich fix, even though this place is in my backyard.

What's all the fuss about? Tasty, big portions... I'll give you that. Service, well the food showed up eventually. Maybe I am just too picky from having great deli in many places. I wasn't expecting Zingerman's, but with the ratings this place has across the media I did hope for something a little more special. I had the Chicken Salad, which was not special. Vickie's Rueben was much better, and maybe even in the top ten she's had, and she lived in New York!

Best corned beef sandwich I've ever had, oh and it's ENORMOUS.
