Down on the riverfront on a Friday night meeting some clients of my husbands for dinner before the Eagles concert at the Joe, large group of 10 . First the negative .... the hostess stand, What a hot mess. first they did not have the reservation (which i confirmed with my cc) then they had it, we started walking to the table, stopped 3 steps in and then they didn't have it...... A 5 minute wait crowded at the entrance while they sorted it out and yep... there it was. Back into the restaurant to our table. By this time my hubby is ready to explode.... important clients and it looks like he was not prepared. Once at the table things improved tremendously. Drinks were served, appetizers passed around and dinner ordered. The wait staff was great and everything flowed smoothly. About half of the table order the signature filet and raved how good it was, the other half ordered the large bay scallops and were equally happy. Me, I love shrimp..... so 4 shrimp the size of a banana, some horseradish and cocktail sauce and i was a happy girl.... the tasty Chianti helped too ! Usually a nice river view, but during the summer there is a concert series out front .... so no view :(

My husband had a business Christmas party to attend at Andiamos last night. Although I dread some of the odd mingling I really enjoyed myself at this place. It was largely to do with the attentive staff, great food, and beautiful atmosphere. Although we were only given 3 entree choices I was quite pleased with how the meals came out. Typically when you have a large group it's hard to get everything out hot and cooked well. I think they were quite successful at that task. I ordered the pork chop. It came out beautifully cooked and perfectly delicious. They purchase Duroc pigs from a farm and do all the custom cutting onsite. I was really impressed with the cut of meat. (Being a pig farmer and all) We had several appetizers to choose from including a crab cake and and crostini. My favorite was portabellas in a zip sauce topped with some gooey cheese. I made myself sick eating so much!! The owner was gracious and knowledgable. He even touched several tables and helped care for guests. Now that's someone who truly cares about his restaurant! Our server was attentive and always on top of our needs. The bar was quick and our drinks were great. I had a Cosmo and they had a large beer selection for my husband. Nicely done!!!

I had the calamari, hail Cesar, French fries and crab cakes. Everything was really good except the crab cake. Do not get that. I really liked our server Aslam who was very knowledgeable patient and kind and our host Jalen, great friendly personality, calm soul.

I want to start by saying how accommodating Michele the bartender was when I called up there and had questions regarding the menu. I have quite a picky family, which includes a vegan, a vegetarian, and a meat and potato eater. She was very patient and consulted the Chef and Andiamo would accommodate us fine. I made a reservation over the phone for 8. I requested a window seat and let them know we were celebrating our parent's 50th wedding anniversary. He repeated back to me our reservation and someone even called me the day to confirm. We arrived and and we were seated away from the window. I told the host that I requested a window seat. He told me there were no tables by the window for our size. Why wasn't I informed at the time of the reservation???? That was kind of a cop out! By the way there was a table next to us that could have suited us, but was occupied. We were greeted promptly by Abul, our waiter. The service he provided was good and friendly. He did ask if we were celebrating anything special? Strike 2 with the reservation!!! He obviously wasn't given the heads up. Anyway, all our food was good. Nothing to rave about for the price. I think the bread should be served with some type of olive oil or butter. The house salad was delicious but skimpy. My dad had the italian wedding soup. Great presentation and he said it was very tasty. For the main couse, I had the veal parmesan. It was meh. For $32, it was definitely not all that. It needed more sauce. I had better at the neighborhood italian joint by my house for a fraction of the cost. One of my sisters had the chicken marsala and said it was good. Most of the guys had the steaks (filet and bone in rib eye). All said good. Both my mom and vegan sister had pasta dishes. Everyone's impression was nothing to complain about, but nothing to foodorgasm about either. Okay, here's the star of the show. My husband had the pasta dish called Paglina e fieno. Wow! Now that was every bit worth the price! Creamy deliciousness! For dessert everyone got something different. My husband and I split a tuxedo cake. It was like a triple layer king dong....very sinfully excellent! Their cappuccino is also very good. It's served with a rock sugar stick. Bottom line for us. For the money, the food is a little over rated. It was good, don't get me wrong. The "Wow facter" just wasn't there. They did accommodate our picky group. I was just disappointed in the reservation and them not going out of their way and making my parent's anniversary a little more special.

Did not have buffet last night but ask several dinners what their thoughts were. All said the chicken pesto basil was really good. Tender and tasty and they would get it again. The wait staff kept bringing it out in small pans so as to keep it hot.

I was pleasantly surprised with the food here! I've been in Detroit for almost a week now for work and I haven't been able to eat very good food at all.. Especially at the cobo center YUCK. I came here for lunch with a coworker of mine and we were seated quickly without a reservation. The view of the river was unfortunately blocked by curtains because the sun was blinding today. Boo. Anyway, I ordered the chicken valdostana ($19) which comes with soup or salad, pasta, vegetables, and bread. Lots of food for a good price! The chicken was AMAZING. seriously like so juicy. I came here thinking I needed to be healthy and only eat a salad, but I devoured that plate of chicken. The chicken was lightly breaded with a piece of prosciutto and cheese on top. Ugh amazing!!!! I was scared it was gonna be dry but I was so wrong. The house salad was pretty good too because the restaurant makes their own dressing. I think it was garlic Parmesan dressing? Anyway this was probably one of the better places I've eaten at around the Renaissance center. I would definitely recommend it if you want to eat something close to the hotel.

Very good Italian. Tonight was my second visit this week so it's definitely a solid choice! On my first trip, I had the veal piccata. It was absolutely delicious. Tonight I had the gnocchi. I love gnocchi and the gnocchi didn't disappoint. Tender and fluffy in a tomato cream sauce. I had Caesar sides both times and added shrimp (done by the piece) and the shrimp were warm and huge. There's a dessert tray with scrumptious looking options. I did break down and try a bite of a friend's banana cream dessert tonight and it was delicious.

My husband and I love Detroit restaurant week and last time we picked Andiamo because of the choices they provided was what we like. We were sitting outside since the weather was beautiful and the view of the river was nice. First I ordered cocktail and hubby got a glass of wine. Cocktail was good but the wine had some settlements at the bottom of the glass. The bread was stale...and my salmon on the cedar plank had no fragrance also the fish wasn't fresh. For that reason we decided to talk to the manager, he told me that my cocktail would be free. Other than all those problems, rest of the food wasn't bad. I just feel that it's a restaurant we won't visit in the future.

Came back here on the same weekend we first visited. Have to say the service here is outstanding. Had Moe wait on us as Curtis was busy. But Curtis stopped by to say hi. These guys know how to take care of you. Moe did another good job and was very friendly. Had the penne with vodka sauce and they added prosciutto and peas as asked...fantastic! It's great they will make what you want and allow changes to items. It was really busy with the race and Taylor Swift in town but we got fast service and never felt rushed. We will be back next year....try this place you will not be disappointed on any front.

The service at Andiamo's was outstanding. I've never had a place be so thoughtful in the sense that, I called earlier in the day for a reservation. During that call, I asked and confirmed that they have a whole wheat pasta option, which they did. So when we went there, the hostess had kept track of that and passed this information along to the waiter. I was impressed when he already knew about the whole wheat pasta thing. Very nice. Food-wise, we had a great Saugatuck IPA. The asparagus appetizer was good as well. The pasta itself.... well, I think I didn't like the arrabiatta sauce. Usually it's a spicier version of a marinara, but here it was like... these tomatoes... chunks... more tomatoes than sauce. Plus, I may have gotten too many veggies... and add to that the fact that whole wheat pasta is never as good as the normal stuff (not that I have a choice, the normal stuff doesn't suit my digestive system). I definitely would've preferred a penne as opposed to a linguine. Anyway, partially my fault, so no harm no foul. I will add that I tasted a sauce that my friends had and it was great. So again, maybe I just ordered the wrong one this time. Well, I'll definitely know better for the next time around. I'm tempted to give Andiamo's an extra star due to the service, however given the prices as they were, I think the service goes with what you pay for. $60 (including tip) per person and the service better be good, right? :)

This place is good but pricey. It's attached to the Marriott, which is where I am staying for work so it's close and easy to get to after a long day of work. Didn't feel like sitting for a dinner so placed a carry out order at the bar. Got the half caesar salad with steak tips, tiramisu and a soda. Bonus, they also included bread. All packaged up with a tip, $35. By the time I got to my room and took a shower it was late and I was exhausted but the food, specifically the tiramisu and the steak tips were really good. The price was really the only down fall but I didn't mind paying a little extra since it was quick and close. The staff at the bar was also extremely friendly.

It's pricey but the food is worth it. We are there several times a year. Want a patio reservation during a special event on the Riverfront? Forget about it. You'll be told you have to talk to an event coordinator who won't bother to return any of your many phone calls over 3 weeks and when you finally get to talk to them they'll inform you snottily that the patio is sold out. Congratulations Andiamo, you've alienated one of your biggest fans. We won't be back.

Bar staff very friendly, prices reasonable, and easy to get to in the building. I've eaten there four times and I've been very pleased with each of the dishes I got. Definitely return here again when in the area. Restaurant was open till 11pm, which was also perfect - especially after the RedWings game. It's just a straight walk from the arena, or on the people-mover train ($0.75 cash only).

I had a very nice dinner here this evening. Our terrific server asked us if we were in any sort of hurry, we said no, we wanted to just have a nice relaxed dinner and that is what we got. I got the impression that if we had been trying to catch a movie or something that he would have paced our meal very differently but we had a nice 15 minute or so gap between each course so we had plenty of time to chat and enjoy our meal at leisure. Honestly, I ordered way too much food since I had a tiny breakfast and missed lunch completely. I ordered their signature meatball appetizer and the bay scallops entree which came with a soup course and a small pasta course, so four courses total. I was pretty stuffed after the first two but kept on going. The meatball had some things going for it but in reality, the implementation wasn't great. It is a single giant meatball, stuffed with ricotta. I do not think it cooked all the way through. There were parts of the meat that were a little too pink for me and some of the ricotta was still cold. I loved the sauce it came with and the "outer" bites of the meatball were great - it just degraded the deeper I got. I think it would have been better served as two smaller meatballs that would cook all the way through without burning the outside. I probably wouldn't order this appetizer again just for that reason. The soup of the day was a cream of broccoli which I enjoyed. Interestingly, it is not a vegetarian soup so my colleague chose not to partake in it. I think they probably could have made just as good a cream of broccoli soup without using pork in it. Not that I personally mind the pork. The pasta course was a rigatoni with marinara. It was fine, nothing too exciting. I probably didn't need it given how much food I had and I'd already had a red sauce on my meatball. The biggest winner was my entree. The scallops were delicious and cooked perfectly and they were over an amazing hash of corn, butternut squash, pancetta and a sweet sauce. If you don't like sweet foods this is not for you, but I love sweet food so it was amazing. Honestly it really redeemed the food part of the meal for me and made the difference between a 3 and a 4 rating (along with the excellent service we received). Our total bill including 3 glasses of wine and tip came to about $150. Honestly, aside from my entree the food probably did not justify that price. But, my entree was so good and our server so excellent that I'm feeling a bit forgiving. I would skip the appetizer next time because they do give you very generous amounts of food with the entree alone.

Went to dinner Sunday evening, or should I say I wanted to. Asked at the front desk for a table for one. Two young ladies said they would check to see what was available. After a 5 minute review of their seating chart they said there was only a table available at the bar or in the "lobby". I went to check out the bar which was not where I prefer to sit. When I came back two ladies were waiting for a table they did not have reservations. A gentleman came out asked if they had been helped they said they haven't and he immediately took them into the restaurant to be seated. One of the young ladies helping me came back. I told her I prefer not to sit at the bar and that the two ladies that just went into the back did not have reservations either. One of the young lady said they prefer not to seat one individual inside the restaurant which is why she offered the bar. I've never before felt so discriminated against being a single woman or individual trying to have dinner. I turned around and walked out and went to Joe Muir Seafood where I was immediately seated and treated like a human being and not a leper. Bad impression for my first visit to Detroit

This restaurant Is located in the Renaissance Center where GM world headquarters is located. The building is enormous and easy to get lost in!! The restaurant is located in the 400 Tower on the river side. My partner and I spent our meal facing the city of Windsor along the river front. The view was lovely. Our server Jake was very knowledgeable about the restaurant and Detroit in general. He was very attentive and made great recommendations. As for the food, I thought it was great. We had a ricotta stuffed meatball for a starter that was better than I imagined. Next was the house salad with a tangey tastey parmesan dressing. I had scallops for my entree that was a special dish designed specifically for this restaurant. It only came with four scallops, but don't let that dissuade you from ordering it. My partner had monkfish, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Overall, for our first time in Detroit this restaurant was the perfect choice. Beautiful view and stunning food.

We were here on election night and while everyone upstairs were celebrating Gov. Snyder's victory, we had a nice quiet dinner looking out at the magnificent Detroit river with all the freighters going by. The ambiance is tremendous and alone worth the visit. I started with a delicious shrimp cocktail (you pay $4/each and I had 3---they are giant) the cocktail sauce has just the right heat. I then had a tasty Caesar salad and as my entrée the veal Milanese. The veal consisted of thinly sliced and lightly breaded meat that was done to perfection. You could cut it with your fork it was so tender. My wife started with a caprese salad and said the tomatoes were the best of the season. She then had a grilled salmon entrée which was perfectly prepared. We were with a group of six. A couple had the fillet and loved it. One person got the soup dejour which was New England clam chowder and he raved about it. We then split a Jonduley chocolate torte for desert and it was a perfect end to a perfect meal. I always like to get a glass of Italian wine when in an Italian restaurant. I had the Montepulciano and it was terrific. Caroline B was our server and she performed impeccably, which made the evening extremely pleasant. We'll be back.

Love the location. The service was good however we had a group of 20 people for lunch and they were very on top of things for us. I had the lobster bisque and the salmon salad 1/2 size. The soup was not good. There was 1 tiny bit of lobster and the soup was thin and runny with corn chunks sunk at the bottom also very salty. The salad however was amazing! The salmon was cooked perfectly and the greens were fresh. The dressing was also very tasty and now overwhelming to the salad. I would like to go back and try it for dinner sometime to see other menu options.

I enjoyed the cocktail "Raspberry delight" - sweet and flavorful. At 12.60 (tip and tax were included in the tip) wasn't cheap, so I only had one.

The view is spectacular and of course the food is amazing. What makes this place is the ambiance, the bar and the live music. Wait staff always makes you feel welcome. Had the lamb last trip. Melts in your mouth and the scallops were cooked to perfect. Golden brown.

This is my second time dining at Andiamo. The atmosphere is excellent, the hostess are helpful, our waitress was attentive. The bussers seemed knew and constantly asked if we wanted our waters refilled. I have been looking for good seafood in Detroit and the first time I dined I ordered the Salmon. It was over cooked and not fresh. This time around I ordered the open face seafood pasta, which was one big noodle infused with Saffron with a bed of different types of seafood. The noodle was hard and I didn't see or taste the hint of saffron. The scallops were quite good, but the mussels were terrible. They smelled and looked like they were thawed under a heat lamp for 24 hours. I know that Seafood is not there thing but don't have it on the menu if you can't keep it fresh.

Very underwhelming experience. Me and my wife chose Andiamo to celebrate our anniversary mostly because we enjoyed our last meal here. This time was a little disappointing. We were never asked if we were celebrating anything when I called to make the reservation or when we were greeted.Oh well no big deal.my biggest disappointment was the portion size of the meal for the money we spent. We eat at nice restaurants quite often and I know every place has their own style, but we were just very surprised how small the steaks were and my wife's came with potatoes and they're were literally less than five small pieces. The service was ok the waiter was a nice enough guy but he seemed busy with a larger party and wasn't very attentive to us, there were a few times he did not come back to us for awhile. Overall no major complaints I would probably dine here again, now I just know what to expect. For the price, I know we have far better options with better value.

The new menu is ridiculous. I want to still like this place, but they consistently screw it up. Let me explain, it's not the food, it's the constant price increases with every new menu revision for the same exact food. Go there on any type of holiday, truly any, and count on randomly paying double the price for the same food "extra special menu". This alienates regulars. The best thing is the service, there are several servers I really like here. Hope ownership wakes up at some point, there are plenty of new restaurants in town that are excellent.

First of all, the only reason I went here with family was to get a view of the river. You might actually catch a glimpse as you are walking to the rest room from your table. But from your table? Forget it!. So I pay for valet, which is the only way to get to this place and don't get a view. It is not as noisy as some of the Andiamo's I've been to. Service was reasonable, but not great. As for the food - I have to strain my memory for what I had. It couldn't have been too bad though. I would have remembered that. The only convenient thing about this place was that the valet station for Ren Cen was just outside the door.

Lively ambience and good service. A Very busy place on a late Saturday night. It was during Detroit's riverwalk week. (mid June). The place was lively with a very good Motown review type band. It was busy enough there was a 90 minute wait at 8:30pm. Luckily there was a seat at the bar. This is one of the few restraunts in my travels where when you order the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail.. You actually get Jumbo Shrimp the size of your thumb (tip to palm and every bit as thick as your thumb.) The house salad was simple ( not enough tomatoes or cukes to suit me) .. But there was more than enough mixed greens. The house house dressing was a creay Italian and was mixed with fresh shaved Parmesan. It was very good. I order the pan seared scallops. I am fanantical about Scallops. Love'em .. And am heart broken when the are done poorly. These were Pan Seared perfectly (golden brown on the outside. They are served atop a bed of freshly sauteed corn as a base. And a layer of sauteed spinach above that. I'm here a few more days. I wan't that dish again!

A dismal experience. Went for a friends birthday dinner, and while the food was okay (okay, not great - kale salad with salmon, arrabiata pasta with chicken, salmon with pasta), the achingly slow service ruined the evening. Water, bread, taking the order, bringing the order were all tediously slow - the only prompt portion was bringing us the bills! Our birthday girl was embarrassed by the poor service and by the odd surcharges many of us got on our bills, when it wasn't her fault but that of an overwhelmed staff and restaurant. A poor option for special event/birthday/anniversary dining. No one from the group will be returning.

Stayed at the Marriott Renaissance for work so I decided to give this restaurant a try. The ambiance was definitely a 5 star but the food was okay, hence my 3 star review...maybe I just ordered the wrong things, who knows. Anyway, we started off at the lounge/bar area, and just decided to grab a quick class of wine. The bar itself is very inviting & classy, with about 15 or so chairs, they also had a few small comfy tables surrounding the bar. We would have just stayed here if the views from the dining hall weren't so spectacular, I honestly didn't feel like I was in Detroit, it felt like I was in a different country, the views of Canada and the Detroit river are outstanding. We ordered the calamari to start, I thought the sauce was kinda bland, like it was missing something. We then ordered the sea scallops to split, I thought they put way too much pepper on the scallops, all I tasted was black pepper. The dish has a lot of potential, they just need to tone down the pepper on my opinion. Overall, their wine menu is spectacular, definitely something to note. The server was very attentive and friendly, my martini (the Swedish Fish one) was way too strong and he was eager to make me a new one. Their hot tea selection is awesome too and I was very pleased with that. It is an awesome date place, beautiful, romantic, cozy and classy, definitely worth checking out if you're staying in the hotel.

I just ate here for restaurant week. This was my first time at Andiamo, and it was definitely better than I thought it would be. Previously, I just considered it to be "wedding food quality," which isn't really a good thing. For dinner, I had the monkfish; mom had whitefish. It was pretty good, but I don't think I'd come back for the monkfish, which has a normal entree price tag of $32. It seemed more like a $25 dish. The house salad is excellent, however, as was the portobello appetizer. And I have to address the service because I see it's been a problem for other people. Our server was incredible. She had about four other tables but was still incredibly attentive, fast and friendly. She replaced our silverware for every course, and, at the same time, wasn't too intrusive. No serious cons to this place, but I expected a better "wow factor" for the meal price.

This restaurant is in a very nice area of downtown detroit, in the Ren Cen and at the waterfront. The ambience is very Italian and the food was tasty, well cooked and close to authentic Italian. Would recommend this restaurant if looking for Italian while in this part of town.

Terrible. Went there on Mother's Day 2014, and sure, I know Mother's Day can be a tough day because of the crowds, but a restaurant with Andiamo's history (and their prices!) should be experienced in it. We waited 2 hours for sub-par food, the service was average at best, and when we left, one of the two ladies' rooms was out of order, the other (with one stall! Servicing at least 100 women!) had no toilet paper. Oh, and all of this for $140!! I truly could have had a V8. Maybe some other day of the week this place is fine, but if you're looking for something nice on a holiday or special occasion, look somewhere else.

I was at Andiamo on the Riverfront last Wednesday for dinner and WOW, was it great! I was there after a business meeting with my fellow colleagues, and the service was great! Our server's name was Ryan and he was excellent (I would highly recommend him). He had a great knowledge of the menu and catered to all of our needs. I will ask for him every time I return. I ordered the filet caprese, it was amazing! The fresh tomatoes and mozzarella paired really well with the filet medallions! Overall it was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone.

We loved the food, it earned its price. The service was accommodating; they let us talk their ears off and moved us to under an umbrella when it started to sprinkle. Comprehensive wine list, nice salads with scratch dressings, wonderful Italian breads; and well balanced sauces complemented the fresh pasta. The view of the waterfront is great for people watching, and we saw watercraft as well. We will be back for coffee, dessert wine and dessert before we return to Houston.

Where do I begin? At first glance, the dark décor seemed elegant and I was looking forward to a good meal. I was taking my niece out to celebrate her recent engagement. Although the dining room was nearly empty we were first seated at a small two person table next to a large post. I asked to be moved to what looked like a cozy private booth, but when we sat down it was so "cozy" we couldn't sit across from each other without our legs bumping. We were given a wine menu and my niece ordered a glass of the first white on the menu. The waiter returns, "they are out of that wine and didn't update the menu". I ordered a GG martini. I love soft shell crab and ordered one off the appetizer menu. When it arrived, my niece and I looked at each other and laughed because it was so tiny. It looked like a premature baby crab, about 4 inches by 2 inches and way overcooked. It was served on a huge plate which made it seem all the smaller, on a bed of tomato sauce and collard greens. Odd. The manager came over and asked how everything was. I said "OK". He said "Just OK?" So I told him how ridiculous the softshell crab was. He apologized, said it was new on the menu, he would tell the chef and take if off our bill. We ordered the veal saltimbocca, which came with soup or salad. We ordered the clam chowder, which bore no resemblance to any I've had before. While the flavor was OK, there were no clams and just a few oddly large chunks of potato and carrot in a fairly thin creamy broth. We were the brought a small plate with a few mostaccioli with red sauce. When we got our veal, once again we looked at each other in astonishment. There were three small pieces of veal with no discernible prosciutto and a little melted fontina cheese on top, accompanied by a tiny blob of what looked like cabbage/carrot slaw. In addition, the veal was not very tender. At $22 for a lunch entrée, this was definitely not worth it. Our bill came to $80 for lunch. We each had one drink and one entrée. We will not be returning. It's too bad that what was supposed to be a special celebration was marred by a negative restaurant experience.

I had the pan-seared scallops at Andiamo during my recent visit to Detroit. It was one of those "healthy" options on the menu and I decided to try it. The scallops and sauce were rather bland and I wasnt' the biggest fan of it. On the bright side, the bread was warm and pretty good.

Thursday Wine Dinners (Tastings) are Out of This World! I'm a frequent business traveler to the Dearborn/Detroit area, and this was my second visit to an Andiamo Riverfront summertime weekly wine event, their "Passport to Wine" series. Both evenings have been fabulous! Besides a sampling of great wines from one country or another (Chile and Australia on my two trips), the wines are paired with small-plate courses that are absolutely amazing every time. From my experiences at this and Andiamo Dearborn wine tastings, I think that the chefs have an opportunity to get creative and show what they've got at these things. The food always seems to taste better at a wine tasting than when eating off the menu, but it may also be the great family-style, wine-drinking, atmosphere or the magic of the wine parings ... not sure, but they are always fabulous events. The sommelier and staff have always been spot-on. Excellent service paired with very interesting stories and information about the various wines of the tasting. After a tasting or two in Dearborn, I have become a regular customer there, and now plan to do the same at Andiamo Riverfront.

Great time at Andiamo last night for our Girls Night Out. The Sommelier designed a special "Wine Down Wednesday" wine tasting and food menu that was fabulous. They also have wine tastings every Thursday that focus on various wine producing regions.

I don't have a problem with this place. The food is pricey, but it's a hotel restaurant, so what can you expect? The layout of the place is really funky because of the layout of the hotel, but the service is great, and the pasta rocks (try the Manicotti, you'll thank me later). Soft, handmade pasta with succulent fillings. The kitchen can get backed up, but their bread is just crack in an appetizer, so no worries.

I have mixed reviews and here's why... I ended up going for lunch on a Saturday afternoon then again on Monday . Detroit was experiencing fabulous weather and I wanted to enjoy gazing at the Detroit River and the warm Summer breeze off the water. Saturday: my friend and I ordered the Peperoni Ungherese alla Rustica. Hungarian hot peppers sautéed with homemade sausage and sliced potatoes in a tomato rosemary demi glace sauce. Woah! I wish the menu also warned that this dish was spicy. I love chili heat but this took me by surprise. Asked our server about it and he said it was possibly spicy season for the peppers. Ya, well, a little warning would have been nice. The service was good and our meals were tasty but the kitchen was extremely slow that day. Monday: Just had drinks and Portabella al Forno appetizer (Marinated portabella mushroom, serafina cheese, seasoned breadcrumbs, crostini, balsamic glaze). Our server suggested adding beef tips and I'm so glad she did! Deeeelish!!! The decor: I think the interior could really use a face lift. It's dark and drab. Since the restaurant is right off the water it smells like musty carpet; which by the way is bunched in high traffic areas. Enjoy!

Went here for Valentines Day and had a solid experience. I tried Calamari for my first time and it was really good... I ordered the Filet which was very good. I mean, I have had better, for way less money, but I enjoyed it.. The atmosphere was perfect for a Date night. My only complaint was that I was about 3/4 finished with my Sam Adams Boston Lager Draft beer and got 2 pieces of glass in my mouth. I feel like this is something that is avoidable, especially at a high end restaurant. They gave me a free beer, but no manager came to apologize or offer anything additional for me almost swallowing glass.

We have been here SO many times. So when it came time for my special birthday dinner, I was excited for a great experience. It was terrible! I worked in the service industry for over 10 years and I have NEVER sent back anything. I sent back the appetizer and my meal. Not to mention the service was terrible, I believe her name was Kelsey and she did nothing to make our experience better. She did not even offer us an "I'm sorry" for the multitude of mistakes (which I did not blame on her!) Not even the manager came back to apologize after. Every restaurant has off nights, but the combination of bad food and terrible service means we will never be going back.

Best service of all the Andiamo restaurants. Jake and Scott were top notch tonight. The Andiamo Filet was prepared to the perfect temperature. You can't go wrong with the House Dressing on your salad or the Pasta Figioli.

The staff was so rude. I had rsvp for my bachelorette party and had a total of 15. 5 girls showed up first and were early. the hostess would not seat them until HALF showed up although she assured them the table was ready. So basically my guests showed up and had to sit outside the waiting area not even in the lobby of the restaurant. Then we get charged twice for an appetizer. We paid for it until one of the girls mentioned we only had one plate of it. We let them know and the staff lets us know that its too late because the ticket closed and so did the register for the next shift. It made no sense. I will never give them my business again.

I had the grilled salmon. Tasted like it had been marinating in water for weeks then freeze dried. If I was blindfolded I wouldn't have known what the hell I was eating. Had no discernible flavor other than stale air. The grilled pineapple and veg that came with it had the same. Maybe I was mistakenly given the wax display of what the meal is supposed to look like.

This was my first time and was very disappointed in my service. The waitress seemed to be very anxious and spoke down upon my date and myself. I have experienced fine dining many times before and this was not it. Besides the service, I was still expecting an exceptional meal and it was far from it. Both entrees came out cold after waiting much longer than those around us. I can only hope that they find better staff to suit their upscale establishment.

Came here with friends for dinner and it was such good food. Hostess sat us where we had a great view of the Riverwalk. We ordered the Gambieri con polenta and the Petto di Pollo de Valdostana. We had gotten the salad with the house dressing which was tasty. The polenta? Oh my goodness it was good as was the shrimp. The polenta was fluffy in the inside and a bit crispy on the outside. Needless to say, I couldn't stop eating it. The chicken was juicy and delicious. Our server was really great and even though it was busy because of a conference, she made sure to check in on us. This place is located in the Ren Cen, and if you can get a seat inside where you can see the view, it makes it even better.

Was very surprised to find an Italian Restaurant attached to a glorified mall food court turn out to be this good. Most Italian places in such locations seem to be designed to cater to the lowest common denominator - gutted of taste and presentation. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food tasted like what you'd expect in a more home-style Italian place Very nice selection of wines and a staff knowledgable in appropriate pairing. If I'm ever in the Detroit area, again, I'd be more than happy to go back to this place.

Wow. Such mixed reviews. Admittedly, I don't eat often at this Andiamo, but every time I have, it has been really good. For lunch, I have the season's grilled salmon salad. It changes a bit depending on the time of year. It's always very tasty. The salmon is perfectly grilled, the salad not over dressed. Late last summer, hubby and I had dinner there and sat outside. Love that. There aren't enough places in Detroit where you can sit outside. Especially with a view... the riverfront is beautiful. Take time before or after your dinner/lunch for a stroll. Oops... I digress. I don't remember what we had for dinner last summer, but I don't remember any problems. The waitstaff is helpful and (I've found) appropriately attentive. The one thing I will caution... the valet is expensive. If you can find creative parking... do it.

    (4)
  • Joe M.

Took some clients here and it was very good food. The location is downtown in the Ren Center. If you go to the back of the building you will find valet parking. The food is always good here. Stop by for some good italian food

Maybe I'm spoiled being from New York, but this place would have shut down a long time ago if it weren't in Detroit. Highlights: - 1/2 off bottles of wine on Tuesday. - Caeser salad had its moments: fresh lettuce, homemade croutons, not over dressed. - Server kept us laughing - Desserts were tasty. Cream puff wasn't a cream puff but tasted good and the kit kat wasn't a kit kat either but again - tasty. Lowlights: - Ordered a steak medium rare - came out WELL done. Seriously the poor cow that lost his life to be that abused. 2nd steak came out VERY rare, third time it was close to Med Rare so I took it. Steak was still super tough and grissly. - Seems very expensive for the quality of the food. If I ever return I'll stick to pasta, seems people enjoyed those meals.

This week is restaurant week in Detroit, so BF and I decided to go (2nd option- first was Irridescence at Motor City, but closed on M & T), Andiamo on the River. Reservations were for 6:30, we got there a little early and saw that parking would have been $20 for anything over 2 hours so we took a little drive along the river to waste some time. Had to enter through the Renaissance main entrance and it was a little confusing where to go from there to find the restaurant. Went around and found a door, but it told us to go back to the main area and there it was all the way on the left upon entering. The decor is beautiful, I love the beads on the ceiling - it just permeated throughout the dining area. Restaurant week offers a 3 course dinner for $28 per person which includes an appetizer, main entree, and a dessert - all very limited selections at this location. I decided on the Bruscetta, Pork Loin, and a canolli. BF decided on some risotta wrapped around some cheese - yummy, chicken entree of some sort, and a canolli. My bruscetta was hard and tasteless unfortunately. Soup or salad came with all entrees. So, I had some sort of pasta soup and BF had a salad. My soup was good, but BFs salad looked better. At first the waitress brought me a salad and I had to remind her that I had ordered soup. It took about 10 minutes for her to get back with the soup and BF had already started on his salad. Then came out a side of pasta - okay, no big deal I could do a better job, I ate most of the tasteless pasta. So by this time I have had tasted BFs risotta, my bruschetta, soup, and then the pasta - OMG my tummy is getting full. The pork loin finally made it out - it took quite a long time, but we are not in any hurry! BFs chicken looked alright - not melt in your mouth chicken, a little tough he said, but alright. Waitress finally came around again and I hadn't touched my pork loin, can't - asked her to wrap it up because I am just too full! It will be dinner the next night!!! BF ate his canolli, he said it tasted like it was just taken out of the refrigerator or freezer. BF had ordered coffee to go with his canolli, but waitress totally dissed the coffee. After he ate his canolli without a fork I told her to forget the coffee because the canolli was already gone! She wrapped up my canolli along with my Pork Loin. All in all the food was alright, no big deal. The waitress was the same, no big deal - she was busy talking to another table - all the time! The decor was beautiful though. Parking is meh at best due to the cost. Salvation here was since it took over 3 hours for the meal the waitress gave us a coupon where it would only cost us $10 for parking, and I say only with a frown due to other restaurants outside of Detroit you can self park free. Will more than likely not go back to this Andiamo, especially since I heard that if this was your first time there they would give you to start you off with a special appetizer - did not see that though! Staff was alright - did not make you feel welcome, except for when we left the lady at the entrance did say have a great evening! One more thing, if you take your time eating, they try to take your plate away from you! That happened to me on one plate 3 times! There are better Italian restaurants out there than this Andiamo you are basically paying to eat in the city of Detroit!

What was good? The food. Not great, but good. What was great? Sitting outside on the patio, drinking wine, looking at the Detroit river at sunset (actually a pretty nice view from here!) What was fantastic? Parking at Greektown for free, and taking the People Mover to the RenCen (where Andiamos is located) for 0.75. Awesome.

My wife and I went to dinner at Andiamo's Detroit Riverfront as part of her birthday weekend. We're Mille Grazie cardholders, but we tend to go to the one in Novi as it's close to home. Novi is good, but the Riverfront location is phenomenal! We started with Belvidere dirty martini's with blue cheese stuffed olives, which were perfectly made, and a appetizer of fried calamari. The calamari was perfectly cooked, with a wonderful ammoglio sauce that I just can't get enough of! Next we ordered the Medaglioni Di Filletto Di Manzo Con Gamberi (Beef tenderloin medallions topped with grilled portabella mushrooms, Boursin cheese and coldwater shrimp for us laymen) for me, and Aragosta Con Granchio Al Forno (Crab stuffed petite lobster tails served with a garlic butter sauce and seasonal mixed vegetables). The we were smart and we split it. There were two tenderloin medallions and two lobster tails, so we both got a bit of surf & turf. The food was beyond description it was so good. Everything was perfectly prepared. Mind you, this is no place to stop by for a cheap meal (at least not what we ordered), but you get your money's worth! The Manager (Mr. Purchiss) came over and chatted with us a bit, and was very pleasant as well. Our server Mike T was wonderful, and the entire experience was without equal. This is a great place to go out and spoil someone!

Been going here for years! Service is always good, sometimes just okay, but always good. The food is very consistent. I give it a 4 star only because I feel that their meats could be of better quality. The main reason I am reviewing Andiamo though, is because THEY HAVE THE BEST ZIP SAUCE IN THE WORLD! I get the filet every time! whether its a steak, or a shoe, the zip sauce can make anything taste good!

Unbelievably slow service. Over 15 min for a drink. Calamari seems to have been over fried. Veal chop was good, not great. My friend asked to speak to the manager and no one came out. AT ALL. EVER. I mentioned to the hostess that we asked to speak to the manager, and she said "Oh, you wanted to speak to the manager?" I replied" what's the point now? I just want to go home" She said "OK, Bye" No offers, apologies, nothing. I realize Im not the most articulate reviewer, but please dont judge me by this disjointed review. Ive been all over the world, to Michelin star restaurants and I know the difference between a quality dining experience and having the wool pulled over my eyes. This dining experience was an insult. 6 People total were at our table and gratuity was added to two of our three bills? Admittedly, Im not sure what the policy is, but it sure seems unfair to assume that you deserve a tip of any kind. Over 3 hrs is just inexcusable. No one should ever have to wave down and shout to get the attention of their server. I will NEVER EVER go back.

We were visiting Detroit for a music festival and was told to try this restaurant. The food was average. I ordered Pasta Bolognese and it was swimming in tomato sauce. The other pasta dish my son ordered, the ravioli was really bland. The service was pretty good but the food was not worth the price.

I've been to other Andiamo restaurants in the metro area and decided to go to Andiamo's on the Riverfront on a date this past weekend. The ambiance is great, the service not so much. On weekends they have live music which was awesome! However, the server we had was either very busy or decided we were not as important as the other tables she had. I had to ask for water not once but a few times, my date asked for balsmic for his bread and it took quite a while to get to us. I ordered the Chicken Breast Arrostito, the chicken was fine, the mousseline was terrible and the green beans were undercooked. When I went to the restroom other ladies were complaining about the food and service stating that this is the worst Andiamo, foodwise, of the ones in Detroit. I will avoid this Andiamo's if I'm ever asked to go again.

Pretty good food with exceptional service and location. I love my city and this is a shiny spot for the D! While I missed my tenderloin tips and cream sauce this time, I am sure they will completely satisfy my needs on my next trip. Our server was excellent and knowledgeable, and the food came hot and well prepared. I did not enjoy our seat by the kitchen, I am sure if I had said something, they would have moved me. It was a romantic weekend and Andiamo only enhanced the romance! Thank You!

My boyfriend and I came here during Restaurant Week for my birthday and was pleased with the restaurant overall, we'll defiantly be back! Nice view of the river and great ambience for a date. Music was good and not to loud. Service was on point especially during DRW. Food was delicious, had the center cut pork loin chop and was happy with how flavorful the dish was. Martini was yummy and so was the Saunders Hot Fudge Cream puff! My boyfriend had a chicken dish also from the DRW menu topped with fontina cheese and prosciutto which was good as well! Overall would recommend for a special occasion or a nice wine night!

We took advantage of the BOGO offer taking place throughout the month of July which is actually a maximum of $20 off an equal or lesser entree. Made a reservation for 6:30pm to try to make it in time for an 8pm show at the Fox Theatre. it was my first time trying an Andiamo's and the BF had been to one of their other locations prior. When we arrived they were quite busy, but they took us right in and sat us at an intimate booth inside where I had a view of the Caesars in Ontario. I am a fan of booths so I was happy about that and that we didn't end up at an outside table. It was crazy loud out there as a radio station was having a concert on the riverfront. What I was not happy about was the folded cardboard propping up the rectangular light fixture that was partly within the wall in our booth (see picture). It was quite distracting at the corner of my eye. I thought that was ghetto as hell for a place with white tablecloths. The (plastic/crystal?) strings or ropes hanging from the holes in the ceiling looked like a bad decorative craft job from Michael's. We did not order an appetizer so as not to take a chance finding parking and making it to showtime at the Fox and figured the gratis bread/infused and herbed dipping olive oil and salad that comes w/ the entree would suffice. The small plate the oil is brought in is a little deeper and concave in the center and there was barely any herbs in the actual oil. In order for the bread to get a little bit of those herbsat the bottom you end up SOAKING it in olive oil. Disgusting, I could barely eat it. The olive oil was good and bread was good, but, together, they did not work for me. My BF makes a version of this at home and I tear his up. No comparison there. I found my salad to be haphazardly thrown together and torn up like someone was pissed while prepping. Some of the lettuce pieces were a little brown too. The BF ordered the Filet w/ zip a sauce, rare. He enjoyed it and happily polished off most everything on his plate save for some cauliflower. The pasta with meat sauce that came on a separate dish, not so much, as he left a good portion on his plate. I ordered the gnocchi based on a previous reviewer raving about it and since I have always wanted to try it ($17.95). I wanted to add a little protein to it and went with the chicken tenderloin vs. the breast option (extra $3.95). The gnocchi was salty and the BITS of chicken were overcooked to the point that some of the pieces scratched my throat going down even after a little chewing. I don't think I even ate half of what was on my plate and didn't even bother to take the rest home. Now I don't know if I don't like gnocchi or just Andiamo's take on this dish. The way I see it, after the voucher was applied, my particular meal was $1.90 before tax and tip and that's EXACTLY about what it was worth. Why call it a 'voucher' too? Voucher is not sexy. How about 'certificate' or something. Like other reviewers indicated, this place is expensive for what you get. What really chapped my ass was that I asked for the house red wine (they only have Red, nothing more specific than that) and when the bill came saw that it was MORE expensive than the cheapest brand of red (Bella Sera) they had on the menu ($10 vs. $8 or $9)! This is the first time I have encountered the house wine trumping one on the wine list in price. A local Michigan draft brew will set you back $7 a pop too. We had 3 beers and one of the beers came in a totally different styled glass--'sectioned' style, not round all around like the others. You'd think a supposedly high-end restaurant would keep the glassware consistent. Normally, if I don't like the food at a place I still may be inclined to go back for starters and drinks. No way here, not at their ridiculous prices. Well, not if *I* was paying, anyway, and I didn't on this trip out. It's not like you get extra ambiance or anything overly special to offset your dollars (see propped up light fixture again). You would think this was a dress up place too, but a number of the patrons that night didn't really reflect that as much. Service was great though. Our server, Mike, was very friendly, attentive and the salvo of the meal. He was totally the reason for at least one of the two stars. I was definitely left less bitter because of him. Two other manager types checked in with us to see if everything was good. At the end of the meal Mike asked if we had parked with the valet (we didn't) because they have some kind of deal worked out with the restaurant. We were not in the mood to make a stink about the problems noted here in my review. I mean, we came with a VOUCHER and we had a show to get to. Plus, I don't send food back and didn't want to make my BF feel too bad about suggesting this place among others in the area I'd looked up on Yelp for us to try. Best of luck to you if you decide to take the chance on a meal at Andiamo Detroit Riverfront.

Service was mediocre, food was ok not great. I looked at the kitchen most of the night. My party of 4 had steak fillets, salmon and beef tips. For the price, go to Iridescence or around the corner to Joe Muer's where food is much better as well as service. Will not recommend or return to this restaurant.

I had the chicken with pancetta and it was just OK. The service was the part that made it awful. My party of 4 was there for almost two hours before we received our food. The manager seem pretty unapologetic. He stated that they had a large party and that is why things fell behind. He offered us some cheap under whelming desserts, but that's it. I will never visit this location again.

Great view, mediocre food. Obviously Andiamo's got a great business plan: it was very busy on a Wednesday night -- out of towners, Detroiters on a night out, several groups celebrating events. Lots of fun. This is Italian-American food time warped from the 1950's. Big portions. Lots of tomato sauce. White table cloth. Squishy bread. Big prices. The waiter said the best thing on the menu is the steak. Steak is the best dish at an Italian restaurant? I really wanted something more Italian so I ignored the suggestion. I should have listened. BTW the espresso was so bad it had to have been a mistake.

Terrible. I am here right now for my anniversary with my husband and it couldn't have been a more terrible experience. The food was ok but the service has been so incredibly slow its unforgivable. What's worse is we asked to speak with a manager and all he said was that they were understaffed and offered us free dessert. No apology-- nothing. Each cocktail we ordered took a minimum of 15 minutes to arrive and without apology. Our meals took over an hour to arrive. There was simply no excuse for the terrible experience and we will never return.

This was actually the first restaurant I went to when we moved to Downtown Detroit. Our tour guide for the day suggested we go there as it gave us a nice view of the Riverfront area. The decor was kind of outdated,,but I have to say that the service was excellent as was the food! It is exactly what you would expect from an "American Italian" restaurant. I had the pasta figuole soup as and a chicken salad. The portions (at least in my opinion) were ginormous! I felt like ate a lot, and still my plate looked full. I also remember the bread being delicious. It's a little lacking on the personality side (in terms of the decor I mean)..but I am confident that I would experience a consistent meal at other Andiamo locations. Like other reviewers said, seems like a good, non-offensive place to take business associates.

Perfect for a bussines lunch or dinner, ive been dining there for the past 5 years. perfect for in and out service with the location being right next to the valet service! the service is excellent! the food and drink is as good as it gets for a franchise american-italian food. My favorite is the lasanga and the portions are very large. i will defitnatly be back!

Food was pretty good and server was very attentive - almost too attentive. The worst part about Andiamo was that we were staying in the Marriott and trying to navigate the maze that is the Renaissance Center was pretty difficult. It was also a nice evening so we decided to sit outside - which would have been alright, except for the numerous low riders/jacked up cars that were driving around the block blasting their music. Can't blame that on the restaurant though, they can't help that they're located in Detroit.

Okay, so my review may be slightly skewed for a few reasons: 1. I didn't pay for anything when I ate here. 2. I came here for a pharmaceutical company-paid presentation. 3. I was paid to be here. 4. I was here for a catered event. That being said, the food here was really freaking good. I work at an AIDS Service Organization here in Detroit and came to Andiamo Detroit Riverfront for a work-related presentation, which was paid for/sponsored by a pharmaceutical company. In other words, we got paid to go to a fancy restaurant, sit and listen to an excellent, intelligent, & famous AIDS-related guest speaker (Dr. Andrew Zolopa, for those who care), and eat good food. The meal started off with multiple appetizers, which included calamari, prawns, crab cakes, and roasted & sliced portabello mushrooms. ALL of those things were excellent. We then had the option of choosing from the following entrees - filet mignon, crab-stuffed salmon, or a duet of filet mignon and salmon. Being the food-lover that I am, I chose the duet. I ordered my filet medium rare, and it was cooked to absolute perfection. Seared well on the outside, still red on the inside and just luke warm. And it melted like butter in my mouth. I was genuinely impressed. The salmon was also quite good. Frankly, the best part of the experience was the service staff. They were all very friendly and attentive, and worked really hard at making sure they moved quickly without interrupting the presentation. Also, the restaurant has some truly beautiful views right on the river. It's gorgeous!

This place is a disappointment. Been here twice, not going back. Food is priced too high for what you get/quality. The service sucks, young girls that show no sophistication at all. And food has left my stomach feeling slightly sick both times. Plus we were upcharged for something that we were not told there was an upcharge for...SHADY. Not going back, ever.

We went to Andiamo for my fiance's birthday to use a gift card he got for his last birthday! What a treat!!. He had the Bistecca di Lombo di Vitello (veal chop) and I had the Filetto di Manzo (filet mignon). OMG!! This food was spectacular! I made sure to at least taste everything. First, the bread. The bread sticks were delicious but the bread itself was just alright. I had the house salad with balsamic vinaigrette and he had house with creamy parmesan, Superb!! Very fresh greens and the best salad dressing ever. Then the entree. Both of our meat dishes came with veggies and sat on a bed of mashed potatoes. All three were divine! If you're not a veggie fan, you will still love these. They were shredded but I really couldn't tell what they were. All the menu said was "fresh vegetables". Now the meat. The best I ever had. Super juicy and divine! We ate at Gordon Ramsey's Steak restaurant in Las Vegas and this was much better at half the price. We will definitely be going back. As for the service. The server was very attentive and capable. She was personable and seemed to like her job but seemed a bit nervous at times. No biggie though. The worst thing was trying to find the front door! We had to walk in the main building door, walk through a buffet conference that was going on, then there was the door to the restaurant. Weird. Thank you Chef Quirt! This was one of those meals that is so good that you don't forget it.

Executive Summary: Good food, if you can get it. Service is top notch, restaurant planning not so much. Don't go if you're not a patient person or you will leave cranky. Okay, so here's my thing about Andiamo Detroit Riverfront. I walked in wanting to LOVE the place. I mean seriously, I'm writing that in all caps so you know I'm serious. I visited there as part of a dinner with a department from work, and were instructed that we had to wait to be seated, we needed half our group. In a group of eight we were missing two. I'm reasonably sure six is more than fifty percent of eight. So we were seated in a nice part of the restaurant, just long enough for some folks to get served their drinks, and get comfortable, before we had to move to another table in a dark room, right next to the kitchen. We finally had to ask them to turn the lights up so that our eyes did not have to constantly readjust, as people went in and out of the bright kitchen. For kicks I ordered an "arnold palmer" martini, which I expected to knock back and be done with it. It first came out tasting like a glass of simple syrup with a bit of grain alcohol in it. Truthfully this is where I give the place a lotta credit. Immediately both our very lovely server and the bartender (who I later discovered was a high school classmate and teammate of mine) went to work developing a decent martini - it took them something like six tries and they were all on the house, but good lord. Had I just come to drink, I'd have been a happy guy. They weren't good until the last two attempts, but by the fourth one I really didn't care. In any event, we ordered a shrimp cocktail appetizer. They were out of that. I ordered osso bucco. They were out of that. So I ordered veal. They were out of that. The excuse is that the auto show crowd cleared them out earlier in the day. Now, I don't know how long Andiamo's has been in this location, but I'm sure they'd been there long enough to know to expect increased customer flow from what is a pretty regular event. No Detroit business is going to open up in late January and be all "Oh no! Look at all these cars! What's going on?" That's stupid, and it's poor planning. Exasperated, I asked our server to surprise me. And what a girl, she seemed to relish the task and asked me a couple of questions before coming back with one of the best steaks I've ever eaten in a restaurant. Despite being overdone. It's just as well, since my soup was stupid - giant bowl of chicken stock with a few cheese tortellonis thrown in. Our server put in some extra pasta to be a pal, but dang if it just didn't seem like I should've just drank it out of a mug. So there we are, all finally eating -at nine o'clock, after arriving at quarter to seven, and still my free drinks keep coming. Truthfully I have never been attended to this well at a restaurant, ever. After dinner I went to use the restroom, and came back to more drinks and an amazingly sumptuous pineapple cheesecake that I would return for, just for that. Though the service was outstanding as well, I'd also return for that. Corrine made what could have been a miserable dining experience into a good one, so be warned, I'll fight a dude to sit in her section if push comes to shove. I'm just throwing that out there right now.

Ok, I should have known when they started offering BOGO. Went on a Friday night before the Rockin on the Riverfront concert right after work. Had reservations for the patio and was seated very promptly, so far so good. Was served very good bread and dipping oil just after being seated. Ordered our drinks and should have gueesedthey would be expensive when they don't list the price. $15 for a martini YIKES. We ordered our dinners, a bowtie chicken with mushrooms and cheese which we asked to exclude and their Bistecca porterhouse steak ordered medium rare. Salads and soups both good but nothing special. The chicken dish arrived with both items that we asked to be excluded so that was sent back. It came back the second time without the cheese but still having the mushrooms, ok we can pick off the mushrooms. The steak ordered medium rare arrived well done and lukewarm, so that was sent back. The second steak arrived medium rare, good, but tough as nails. I had to saw thru the filet side and didn't even eat half. I guess i should have ordered spaghetti. Way to much money for this place.

This is always a great choice. Not the cheapest restaurant around, but on the waterfront and excellent food and service.

I met an business associate for lunch at Andiamo today. I had previously been there for dinner in a more romantic setting. This was my first time seeing the lunch menu! The staff was very professional, they didn't interrupt us during our lunch meeting and the food was delicious. We sat at the bar and conversed while we ate. I highly recommend Andiamo for potential clients or for lunch meetings.

Stopped here back in 08' with my ex. The memory is foggy so I'll keep it short and sweet. Service was horrible. The pasta side dish came in a plate full of water. My "side salad" (which consisted of a few pieces of spring mix and two cherry tomatoes) had been drowned in dressing, despite the fact that I had ordered dressing on the side. The lemon, butter, white wine sauce that my Veal piccata was SOAKED in, had broken under the heat lamp, but was shipped out to me anyway. And the coffee was old and cold. Over priced and over rated.

I am always impressed with the service and the breathtaking view of the Detroit River. The food is good and the waiters are very attentive, with the bus boys whisking away empty plates almost as soon as you are done with them. This would be an excellent place to take a business client for a fancy lunch or your significant other for a romantic dinner.

***20th Anniversary Dinner Menu Review*** 1st impression: beautiful view of the Detroit river and Windsor skyline; wall of purple-hued fishtanks; full restaurant on a weeknight - woohoo! 2nd impression: waiter arrives with a flourish and gives us the regular menu. "No!!" we proclaim. "We want the 20th anniversary special menu!" (Perhaps this was the Big Mistake?) Upon first glance, we were très impressed- $40 total for 2 entrees, 2 soup/salad, 1 bread basket, and 1 bottle of wine! There was a very good selection of entrees, from seafood to meat to vegetarian. I chose the fettucine with chicken and my friend ordered the steak. 3rd impression: 15 minutes goes by. We wonder out loud whether we have become invisible. We hear a loud, obnoxious woman in a booth yelling at her man (prob not anymore, from the sounds of it). Finally, the waiter arrives. We order. We are served a bread basket. Now, the bread was excellent - in fact, it was the best part of the meal. Freshly baked and soft, served with olive oil and pesto on the side. We chalk the wait up to the chef conjuring amazing meals with love and care for everyone. 4th impression: never mind. Salad was a few pieces of romaine lettuce with 3 cherry tomatoes and a coating of raspberry vinagrette. Fettucine was bland and tasteless. As for that steak... well let's just say it was unfit to be served. Half of it was fat and it was almost impossible to cut, let alone chew. Ladies and gentlemen, this is one of the few meals where I asked for a doggie bag (which, incidentally, was not consumed by yours truly). 5th impression: aw shucks, let's just order dessert as a saving grace. I tried the banana walnut sorbet. Given my rave reviews of rival 24 Grille's homemade delicious *blood orange sorbet*, I thought it tasted store-bought. Severely disappointed. 6th impression: I want to pay the bill and go home. Note: I waited a week to write this review to be as objective as possible. I have a feeling that the dissatisfaction we experienced is unique to the 20th anniversary menu, but hell, if you're gonna celebrate 2-big-0's in business, please, Andiamo, give your customers a bite they can chew.

What has a great view of the Detroit River, wonderful food, and good service --- you guessed it, Andiamo's Ren Cen location. This is my favorite Andiamo location due in-part to the view of the beautiful riverfront. We decided to take advantage of the Andiamo's Anniversary special: two dinners plus a bottle of house wine for only $40.00 dollars. The selection on the specials menu included a couple chicken dishes, a couple seafood dishes, a couple beef dishes and one pork dish -- overall a very nice selection. The special runs through end of March 2010. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana (melanzane alla parmigiana), which I wish I could say was wonderful, but unfortunately I received the veal parmigiana in error. While I'm vehemently opposed to veal due to the mistreatment of the young calves used for this meat, I decided to eat it anyway (I'm also against waisting food). The veal had a light herb breading covered in a flavorful marinara sauce; the veal was good. It came with a side of sauteed green beans -- one of my favorites. Note: our server Donna and the Manager were very sorry for the error and very accommodating. To make up for the food blunder, we received free dessert (my request). I ordered the Chocolate and Raspberry Tort -- absolutely wonderful. A must order! Overall, the experience was great, but I'm only giving 3 starts for this visit due to the food mixup.

Andiamo is a great riverside Italian Restaurant in the RenCen, facing the river and the Canadian skyline. It is pretty large, with sexy mood spot-lighting, Italian Modern decor befitting the rest of the concrete and glass motif of the RenCen, with intimate booths furnished with tall pig-sude coverings in dark greys, and stylish bar chairs in black. You walk into the bar area, then past a small stage, and into the main dining room. They also have a side banquet room. The food is decidedly northern Italian faire, with offerings of anti-pasta, pasta, griglia, pesce, and other typical tuscan and piemonte type dishes, as well as other regional favorites. We had a large group of 13, and we came late, after 10pm, but they accomodated us with good pleasure and convivial service. Appetizers for our group included Bruschetta, Mozzarella Bufala di Caprese, and Salsiccia with roasted sliced bell peppers. All the dishes looked good, and mine was no exception. It was Capellini al Salmone, which was two sliced filets nicely roasted into a combination crisp and tender consistency, over a bed of Angel Hair infused with mushrooms and spinach, garlic, olive oil and wine. There was a bit too much olive oil for my liking, but otherwise it was tasty. Desserts were about 5 choices, including the classic mascarpone and their award winning TiraMisu, and a double chocolate torte/mousse. They also had Hazelnut Gelato, and Wild Berry Sorbetto. Ambiance was excellent, service was professional, and the food was quite good. Prices, given this setting and view, were high but not unexpected. Most entrees including pasta were in the $20 - $35 range. We had a half dozen bottles of their own Andiamo Sicilian wine, which was unlabelled as to variety, but tasted like a nice light Valpolcella that went well with most everyone's dish. We all had good food, I heard no complaints, and the dinner was enjoyable for all.

While at a recent convention, I stopped in for apps and dessert. Great choice. I've been to other locations, in Livonia and Dearborn, and I liked the ambiance and the view here best. Appetizers? Caprese Salad, Portabella with Zip Sauce and these greasy risotto mozzarella things which were lacking something but I'm not sure what. I would have expected a little better wine selection, though I'm a bit high maintenance when i really want a good glass of wine. (Who doesn't after working a convention all day?). My Chianti Ruffino was ok, but nothing to set the world on fire. But dessert? YUM. We had a pumpkin spice cheesecake that may have flopped miserably, but it didn't. None of us are cheesecake fans and we found it light and fluffy and yummy. There were 3 or 4 other desserts that didn't look half bad either. The service was attentive and the waitstaff knowledgeable. If you want to pretend Detroit is San Francisco, sit in the window and look out. The water is calming and if it is warm, you can convince yourself that Detroit is simply not as bad as everyone bitches it to be.

The ambiance and view at this location was absolutely fabulous. The service was good. The food, on the other hand, was another story. Maybe it's because I was trying to be good and ordered off of their new lean menu. I had the Jicama and apple slaw, the salmon in the corn broth, and the panna cotta for dessert. The Jicama slaw was interesting. I've never tasted anything quite like it. I'll just leave it at that. The salmon was good, but the corn broth was disgusting. I couldn't even look at it without gagging. And the Panna Cotta was a complete disaster. I tried my friend's fettucine alfredo and it was really good as was the big kit kat bar dessert. Lesson learned: Never try to order a healthy dish at a place like this. You'll just pay alot of money and be disappointed. If you go to this restaurant, definitely stay away from the lean menu!

I want this place to be good, but it is just not. The pasta is your average pasta and the steaks - just don't. Been there twice for steak and hoping first time was a mistake on their part. Unfortunately, my second steak was my mistake for going back for a steak. If you like corn fed shoe leather, I would recommend it. I think it is way overpriced food and atmosphere is a little off for some reason I can't put my finger on.

A nice place, but no great shakes. I was traveling on business with a large group, 10 people, and the locals took us here to Andiamo. I had Wild mushroom soup, a steak panini sandwich, and some lemon cheesecake for dessert. All were very good, in fact I thought the mushroom soup was excellent. A bit salty, but I like that. The service was slow. Admittedly we were a very large group, but it didn't look like the rest of the tables in the place were being turned over much faster. I get the feeling this is a place to go when you aren't in a rush for lunch, or probably dinner either. The atmosphere to me was a bit disorienting. I'm not sure why. There's mirrors on some walls, glass partitions on others, and between all the reflections it took me a few minutes to get my bearing. The place did have a excellent wait staff, they were very attentive. There is a nice view onto the River. And the food, once we got it, was very good.

My second trip to Detroit for NAIAS, we stumble upon a nice Italian restaurant for dinner before our trip home back to sunny SoCal. I was in the company of my good friend from CA and FL. This restaurant was referred to us so we decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised that this restaurant was only downstairs in "RenCen" from the Marriott we were staying at above. We didn't have to brave the 21 degree cold and snowy weather and we stayed in the comforts of the RenCen. Andiamo's is on the ground floor facing the Detroit River and Windsor, Ontario, Canada. We were lucky to be seated in the high chairs of the dining area with a gorgeous view of the river and the Ceasar's Windsor Casino across the way. We had no reservations, but we were seated promptly. The decor is very nice and upscale. The hostess and the rest of the staff were very friendly. The food is excellent. To start it off, we ordered the Bruschetta Al Pomodoro Classico appetizer. Delicious homemade breads were also served to accompany the meal. I ordered the Capellini Al Salmone. It was one that was recommended by our waitress and it was fantastic. The portions are very good. I did not get to finish my whole meal which was a good thing because the dessert selection is mind blasting. I was so full I was about to say no to desert. I'm glad I didn't. I ended up splitting the cheesecake with my friend from Florida. It was totally worth it. If you're in town for the auto show, a vacation or a business trip, make sure you visit and enjoy the ambiance of Andiamos at RenCen.

I was a mille grazie member for awhile, and if you like this restaurant you should look into it, but I don't visit as much anymore. Here is my general critique of Andiamo followed by a more location specific critique: The prices are a little high, and you might be paying more for the ambiance than quality of food. However, that isn't to say the food is poor quality. Quite the contrary. It's yummy :-) I have never really ordered anything I didn't like here, but I don't eat seafood so I can't say I've sampled that fare. Regardless, depending on your budget there isn't really a dish that you can go wrong with. Location -- This is the Andiamo you come to if you want the full experience. Make a reservation and request river view. They have an entire back side that they can stick you in if you don't haha. Very beautiful location and it comes highly recommended. The only caveat would be that sometimes the valet can take awhile so be prepared for that. On the plus side you're in the Ren-Cen so you can just walk around or (in summer) enjoy the riverfront. After your meal, depending on the weather, you may wish to take your date on a riverfront walk. It's the best Andiamo location in my opinion.

This is my favorite restaurant in Detroit, since I live out of state now and hardly ever come back, when I'm home I know I have to hit this place up. I was here just last wknd, and as usual the food was out of sight. I see a few yeplers complaining about the price but I feel its totally worth it,I always leave with left overs, food is seasoned well and service is pretty good. The view of the river is great and on some nights they even have entertainment.

What an incredible disappointment on all fronts. Although on the river, the view is nothing to get excited about. The waitress came out and listed the specials, yet mispronounced 5 different ingredients. All Italian ingredients, at an Italian restaurant. We should have taken this an omen of what to expect with the meal. The Caesar was poor - fresh romaine, but the dressing tasted bottled. No hint of anchovy paste whatsoever, but at least there were plenty on the top. One of us had the lamb chops served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. In addition, a side of pasta with red sauce accompanied it, but arrived a full 15 minutes before the entree. The waitress said our meals were coming right out. When the didn't arrive, the pasta should have been replaced. My wild mushroom risotto was sticky, but not in the way that risotto normally is. This was heavy and glue-like. We decided to split a dessert and the waitress encouraged us to try their award winning tiramisu. It looked good, and it was thoughtfully split on two plates for us. What arrived though, was just plain awful. Dry and flavorless. Award winning? Hardly! The prices were high - extremely high considering the quality of the food. Shame on them for charging these prices and serving mediocre-at-best food. Don't waste the effort or the expense. Go to a coney island place - it would be a heckuva lot better!

So I'm in Detroit for a couple of weeks and I came here with my coworkers for dinner. The waiter that helped us was definitely new (the way he took our orders was really awkward) and our food took over an hour and a half to get from the kitchen to our tables. I ordered the pasta with seafood (I substituted the regular linguine for whole wheat pasta) and ended up with an overcooked BLOB of pasta with mussels and a ton of GRIT. I tried to eat as much seafood as possible (I had to eat something!) and each bite was like taking a bite of sand (have you ever heard of CLEANING your seafood before serving it?). I know it's a lot to expect from a restaurant, but COME ON!! Also, my server didn't know what seltzer water was...wtf?!

This is a cool place to go when celebrating any special occasion. My friends and I have been here for a large party of 12+ as well as just to enjoy drinks and apps while listening to the live entertainment. It is pricey for dinner but well worth it!

The service is very attentive, the staff is friendly, the views and location are excellent. Yet the food is overpriced for what you get. The bread and salad are good, the chicken in my entree was tough and chewy. I tasted two other entrees and they were just ok as well, nothing to rave about. For your money, the olive garden actually serves just as good....if not better food.

Great location, great food and great service. I stopped in Andiamo's the other night with a friend. We didn't have dinner but we sat at the bar for some conversation and drinks. Even though it was already 10:30pm when we arrived and they close at 11pm the hostess was more than welcoming. We sat at bar and ordered drinks. We had the nicest bar tender. She talked with us for a little while and then brought our drinks. My friend ordered a concoction that required the expresso machine. The person who was preparing his drink came out to apologize that it would be a few minutes because the machine had just been cleaned for the night. She didn't mind having to re-clean the machine and even though we insisted she didn't go through the trouble she was kind enough to insist she would. We did close the place and the staff wasn't visibly upset that we overstayed our visit by 10 minutes.

Tuesday night--not jammed, but a few people. We got a table overlooking the river, which was nice. The service was wonderful (thanks to Justin). The food was, for the most part, not really worth the price. My companions had the house salads, which were good. I had the caprese salad (mozzarella, tomatoes, etc.) It would have been good if they hadn't refrigerated the tomatoes. The crab cakes are available only as an appetizer; they were nothing special. The entrees: a chicken with wild mushrooms, and a gnocci with prosciutto, were both quite good. They had a large selection of desserts--at least 10--we split three of them: an apple pie thing that looked like ravioli was okay (the cinnamon gelato with it was great), a "kitkat" bar was good, and the white/dark/milk chocolate cake/mousse thing was run of the mill. On the whole, there are better places to spend the kind of money required at this place.

After making my way through a maze of deserted floors and desolate store windows in the Renaissance Center, I was very pleasantly surprised to step into a bustling scene at Andiamo. Our group got a table with a great view of the waterfront and Windsor beyond, a very friendly hostess who was as eager to get out of Detroit as we were, and a great deal on some good dining. Andiamo presents a nice vibe, by any standards - the interiors are nice, albeit a little busy, space is plentiful and the menu has enough to pique interest. I loved the gnocchi, rich but wonderfully delicious - the half size portion was about as much as I needed coming on the heels of a substantial salad and a guilt-free attack on the bread basket! Glasses clinked, conversation flowed and somewhere between sipping my Spanish wine and soaking in my coworkers' tales, I realized my road-warrior days were back again...Gearing up for more yelp-trips in the Motor city!

As out of town visitors to Detroit, we've always enjoyed the blue collar attitude we find, however this was not the case when we visited Andiamo Riverfront. We were staying in the Renaissance Ctr Marriott and meeting friends and thought eating there would be very convenient. We were walk-ins but apparently this means the manager and staff can be as rude as they want to you. The only person that would acknowledge us was the waiter who was great (Joe S.). When myself & a friend asked where the bathrooms we were quite rudely in a nasty tone sent to the public restrooms located in the mall complex even though there are restrooms for customers located in the restaurant. We were constantly called the "walk-ins" and were treated with general disdain when my husband & I had the gall to split an entree because we were watching our weight. When we complained to the manager we were generally dismissed, given an excuse as to basically why the hostess was so rude to us (his excuse was that we were sitting at the patio/mall area and she didn't realize we were guests, unfortunately this excuse didn't hold water since the hostess was who seated us, she just didn't like us being walk-ins). Also, in general the food was overpriced and bland. I honestly expected better and can say that this put a damper on our second visit to Detroit. I definitely won't be back.

great location right on the detroit river. i was in a group of about 8 that grew to 9, then 10 and finally at 12. they were totally cool about the reservation flux, and we had great service. our waiter, william, was young, attentive and had nice recommendations for our food/wine. even when we had a disasterous time with the bill (seriously, 8 separate checks? lame), he was nice about it even though it clearly made things harder for him. the food was good, although i thought the fried calamari was a bit cold and not nearly as good as the stuff i get out here on the left coast. they had a nice columbia valley SB, which was great with the veal. i will say, however, that nothing i had made me think, "damn! this is fucking awesome!" i've definitely had much better italian food here in the north bay. it was just pleasant comfort food on a rainy evening in detroit. nothing special and nothing that stood out as being wrong, either. anyway, a very enjoyable dinner, attentive service and nice art deco interior. would visit again, though it wouldn't be a priority.

I had the calamari, hail Cesar, French fries and crab cakes. Everything was really good except the crab cake. Do not get that. I really liked our server Aslam who was very knowledgeable patient and kind and our host Jalen, great friendly personality, calm soul.

The view is spectacular and of course the food is amazing. What makes this place is the ambiance, the bar and the live music. Wait staff always makes you feel welcome. Had the lamb last trip. Melts in your mouth and the scallops were cooked to perfect. Golden brown.

Walked the River Walk, and stopped here for a beverage. Wound up ordering some appetizers that were very tasty. Mike, our server was very attentive. I would definitely come back for a meal.

The atmosphere is nice, very modern. The food is good, but not great. It's right next to the water, but finding it was a maze that they call the GM building. How about some proper signage, Ren Cen?

I am always impressed with the service and the breathtaking view of the Detroit River. The food is good and the waiters are very attentive, with the bus boys whisking away empty plates almost as soon as you are done with them. This would be an excellent place to take a business client for a fancy lunch or your significant other for a romantic dinner.

Enjoy!

If you can find creative parking... do it.

Awesome.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
