I went to Addison Eatery to celebrate my becoming a US Citizen. The following describes my first meal as an American. (Read that in a Jack Bauer voice) After getting my citizenship, going to Shinola to celebrate with an embossed journal, I looked for places to eat in Detroit that were 'hot and new' according to the Yelp app and found that Addison Eatery was the closest to where I was. As well as them being categorized as 'American (Traditional).' I thought what better way to celebrate becoming an American than getting American things and eating American food. Now if I was driving American, it'd be the perfect trio! Anyways, it is easy to find as it's right on Woodward but the construction and my lack of knowledge of the area took me around a few blocks. I parked on Charlotte where there was a sign that said TAKE EVERYTHING OUT OF YOUR CAR. So I did. Carefully putting my newly awarded citizenship certificate in the trunk. Haha. When I got there at the corner of Charlotte and Woodward, first I wasn't sure it was the right place because it seemed so sparse but I saw one person sitting at a table and just walked in. It took about a minute or two for someone to come and seat me but I suppose not unexpected at such a new establishment, where they hope for many customers yet don't expect too many. (Entrance is on Charlotte.) The entire time I was there there were about 3 individual diners, a couple, and a party of 5 (haha) dined. I was there for about an hour. Not bad for the month they've been open. I had my choice of seats so I sat at a window table facing the restaurant so I could observe. (I took a video so take a looksie.) I noticed that the seats are classy and look... well they are clear plastic chairs so don't look the sturdiest or the most comfortable but they are both sturdy and comfortable. The booth is long and there is a comfortable space between tables. The tables along the windows are all angled but are easily adjusted to fit larger parties. And with the high ceilings it feels spacious. The bar is separated by the booth which has a taller back and cuts the space up a little bit. I was brought a pretty tall glass of water and when she later took my order I got the Wild Mushroom Omelette which is one of my favorite dishes. I had every intention of getting the shrimp and grits as the other reviews raved about it but I never turned over my menu so only saw the breakfast side. Which suited me fine in the end. Anyway, I switched the house potatoes for the Addison Potatoes, which is $3 more for added bacon and cheese. I think it was worth it for the day, since I was celebrating. When Aziza, my server, brought the food she brought along with it all the condiments, whipped butter (OMG), grape jelly (they also have strawberry jam), and ketchup. I asked for hot sauce and they brought some also in a little metal cup. A little wasteful but I suppose it looks much nicer on the table than a bottle of Red Hot. The omelette was good. It was fluffy and wholesome. My only wish is that they would have used more wild mushrooms than button mushrooms. I was expecting some chantarelle and wood ear (okay, maybe not wood ear - but it is my favorite mushroom). There were at least two different kinds of mushrooms but predominantly button mushrooms. Nevertheless, it tasted good and I really didn't need any condiments with it. The potatoes are scalloped and then cooked with onions, peppers, and a few other things and for the Addison Potatoes, they add the bacon and cheese. It's pretty yummy. Especially with ketchup and hot sauce. Their toast is not made in house but it is local. I forget the name but it was delicious. If you want it buttered, make sure you butter it as soon as it gets there. Yum! But the whipped butter spreads out really well so if you're not adamant about melted butter it's not necessary. It came out to about $15+tip for the omelette and upgraded side of potatoes. But as you can see in the picture about half the plate was omelette and the other half filled with potatoes. On the way out I spoke with the Manager who was sitting by the bar...I forget his name. He seemed friendly enough and sincerely happy to see customers. And it was only then I noticed that the bar was lined with stemware but no actual alcohol, so I'm not sure if they have their liquor license. Also, to note their music is very very varied. When I walked in it was techno. When I walked out it was classical. Anyhoo, a great addition to the midtown establishments. It would probably be a 5 star review if the wild mushrooms had been more... well, wild... I'd be happy to go back.

I highly recommend Addison Eatery for breakfast! Their scrambled eggs are fluffy and cooked to perfection. Their potatoes are the best I've tasted in a while. They are soft but not so soft that it falls apart in your fork. If you are a big red velvet fan like I am you will want to try their pancakes. Our waiter was nice and attentive. We didn't have to wait long at all to be seated. We will be eating hear again when we come back to Detroit!

Good menu. Too bad they lack decent management, kitchen staff and service. Very slow. Very disorganized. The execution of the meal was completely off. The 2nd time I was here it was dead and I waited 15 minutes for a host (which I had to ask for). Party of 1 and they asked if I had a reservation. Ridiculous. Your cooks can't even cook an egg to order properly. This place won't last.

Don't waste your time. I tried to go on a Saturday for late brunch and the restaurant was empty. We ordered a full meal, 30 min later the waitresss says we are out if everything that you ordered. I paid for my coffee and left. Won't be returning, we'll see how long this restaurant stays open...hence, there was a reason why the restaurant was empty.

Stopped in here for breakfast and the food was delicious! We arrived around 10a.m. on a Saturday. At this time the restaurant was not packed and looked like they were still setting up for the day. The nice thing about this restaurant is they open at 8 a.m.. Most breakfast/brunch spots aren't open until 11 a.m. or they don't even serve breakfast on Saturday. The inside is very bright with natural lighting because the restaurant is surrounded by floor to ceiling windows. The decor was modern and casual. There was no wait to be seated and our server was pleasant and attentive. The breakfast options were a lot of your classics, but with a unique spin on things. Example: I had ordered french toast... the twist was the creamy delicious peanut butter nutella mix that was drizzled on the french toast and sliced banana throughout the plate. This was a very rich dish, but is was out of this world. No maple syrup needed, but they do have it if needed. The diner with me ordered the banana cream waffle. The "cream" was served on the side and was very flavorful, sweet and light. This dish was also served with syrup, but definitely didn't need it. The only con I saw was both of these dishes could have used a little more fruit. Overall it was scrumptious. I will have to come back for dinner and see how the dinner entrees compare. Overall if you're looking for a breakfast spot in Detroit this should be on your list to try!

I ordered the breakfast sandwich with "Folded Eggs, Wild Mushrooms, Crispy Bacon, Boursin Spread, Arugula & Tomato on a Toasted Brioche Roll," but some prankster replaced the brioche roll with a hamburger bun from McDonald's smdh. There was also some damn romaine lettuce instead of arugula, which leads me to believe the ENTIRE sandwich may have been from McDonald's? Not sure. For "ambiance" I listed "classy" because the napkins were folded when I came in. I give two stars because the bacon on the sandwich tasted better than McDonald's bacon. McDonald's bacon would've been only one star. Also, they don't fold your napkins at McDonald's.

The food here is yummy! But the service is terrible, probably the worst I have had in Detroit on par with customer service at Comcast. Please get the shrimp grits. Shrimp wrapped in bacon...mmmm delicious. The french toast nutella is bangin' with peanut butter flavored french toast. My table ordered a side of Addison potatoes and everyone liked it. So let's talk about service, there was eight of us on a Sat at 10:30am. The waiter took our order and didn't come back to refill our water or bring over our coffee for over 30 minutes and we eventually had to ask someone who was walking around with a coffee pot...UNACCEPTABLE!! There was only 3-4 other tables in the restaurant at this time. When we did finally get our food, one lone person had to wait another 10 minutes before she got her waffles and fried chicken. And then there was the check, he messed our bill and over charged us which we had to get fixed by walking over to the bar, he was gracious enough to give us a 20% off next time for the trouble but SERIOUSLY??!! I hate to write a poor review based mostly on the service but this really was unacceptable. On a side note, this place is huge, great for large groups as long as you are okay with over 2 hours brunch affair.

I had high hopes for this brunch as I heard it has similar/related ownership with the Hudson Cafe. Unfortunately we were disappointed. We came at 11 a.m. Saturday and the place wasn't packed, but our food took an hour to arrive. When it did arrive, the orders were not perfect and items/sides were missed. PROS: + Good brunch menu and prices. + Good food (the fries that came with steak+eggs were delicious!) CONS: - Food took an hour to arrive. - Our waiter did not realize that an hour is not typical. We had to chase the waiter down to ask where our food is, at which point he disappeared into the kitchen for over 10 minutes (we joked and said he's probably scared / hiding). We still suspect the order was skipped and the kitchen rushed it last minute. Overall this gave me the impression that the restaurant would be a solid brunch place (and I may give it a try later this year), but for now it's still an infant and the place has poorly trained staff, kitchen is disorganized, and management needs to do a better job!

I just love the space here on a Saturday or Sunday late morning. Big tall windows that let the sun and streetscape in, old classy old wood trim and a well spaced interior. My seafood omelette (without salmon) and gruyere cheese hit all the right notes for $13. The Nutella french toast was coated and a heavy treat. The servers here are young and inexperienced but attentive and eager. I thoroughly my meal and experience.

Love this place I came here on a week day I can't remember what day exactly with my best friend...I have never had chicken and waffles before so I decided I'd give it a try since the ladies next to me each had ordered it. It was quite interesting, I loved it, chicken was fried to perfection and waffle was absolutely delicious. There was a woman singing at the front, all the classic songs and such a classic voice. Very clean restaurant overall and great atmosphere. (I'm all about atmosphere). I gave this place a four only because our waiter was acting a little funny, I'm not sure what his deal was but after talking with him a little I realized he just was maybe a little shy? Not sure but we just brushed it off because we were so focused on the music and food. I deff recommend this place!

We went here on a Saturday around 11 am and there was almost no one there. The person I was with ordered the corned beef and I got the nutella french toast (why not go for a sugar coma first thing in the morning?). Service was good and food was great! I rated it 3 stars because I'm not down to pay that much for breakfast too often. Also, the sun really gets into the place because of the big windows everywhere! Not complaining of course, but they could have pulled down some curtains on a few windows

My wife and I were staying in the downtown area, and found this place on yelp. So, other tourists, don't let the area turn you off. This was some good food. The french toast with bourbon apple sauce was well worth the $11, and my wife's fish and chips were perfectly crispy. The service was also good, but it was pretty slow in there because it was the Friday morning after Thanksgiving. The only downside is that it was hard to find. We didn't see any signs, nor could we tell where the entrance was. We also had no idea they had a parking lot.

Dined here for lunch about 3 weeks ago - sorry it has taken this long to Yelp. The 3 star rating is mostly due to our server. She was attentive, and very nice. Ambiance pleasant as well. Unfortunately, the quality of the food would have to have been much higher than it was, to make up for the s-l-o-w service. Not crowded, just slow. At lunchtime, when diners may be pressed for time, that is a big problem. I had potato soup. A bit on the bland side for me. Co-diner had a grilled vegetable sandwich. Pronounced it "all right," but somewhat greasy. One positive: the manager came around, asked how everything was, and actually appeared to be interested in our answer. The intentions of the management seem to be to run a high-quality restaurant. Time will tell if the restaurant can bring these good intentions to fruition.

The pros: nice ambience The cons: everything else Sat down to a dirty table, waited over 40 min for food while other parties who ordered around the same time as us ate, paid and left. When the food finally came, my boyfriends flat bread was smothered in BBQ sauce with some shredded cheese and cold chicken that looked like it had been sitting out with a nice browned avacado in the middle. Yum. We had to ask for every refill on our water and coffee. The waitress apologized saying there was a backup in the kitchen and offered to comp something from our bill...the coffee. Thanks a lot.

This place is great! We went there for brunch and I was in a hurry to get to work. We sat down right away with a warm welcome, the service was fast and friendly. My husband and I shared the veggie omelette and the nutella french toast for dessert. They were both delicious!! We wanted the french toast to arrive right after the omelette and they brought it over warm and fresh as soon as we were ready. The atmosphere is really nice. And I made it to work on time. I don't write reviews usually, but definitely thought this place deserves it!!

I visited hear on a Sunday for my children's birthday. I was less than impressed. We waited 30 minutes for a burger that was no tasty at all. How can you mess up a burger. My fiancee ordered chicken and waffles when they arrived wings(mammoth in size) were undercooked. The waffles were cold. There were others at the table that ordered the same and all of the chicken was undercooked. They definitely need help and another cook. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone until they get it together

Excellent food, service is not very good. We waited for over 1 and a half hours for food during brunch and the wait staff was not helpful. The "kitchen went down" during that time, however no management talked to the guests. This was my third time being here. I was extremely unhappy with the customer service and will most likely not be returning unless there is a significant change in service.

We waited almost 2 hours to sit down even though half the tables were empty. They wouldn't even male accommodations for my elderly grandmother who was with us. The host was clueless and was of no assistance to us. When we finally got our food, the chicken was burnt and my friend's food was cold!!! And to top it off the manager would not give us a discount or comp our drinks. However, he ensured us the next time would be better. NEWS FLASH..... There will be NO next time!!!!!!!!

Buhhhh, I hate to give this place a bad review because it's within walking distance of my apartment and the food is generally really great and well priced. I've been there about 4 times over the last few months, and I think I might be done going there if the service continues to be terrible. Even before today, which I'll get to momentarily, I've had off-putting experiences with service either waiting forever for coffee, waiting for a server to realize that we had been seated, or waiting 20 minutes for the server to figure out how to run our bill. That was all before today... Today I made plans to grab lunch with a friend who works downtown and I recommended that we try Addison because it was walkable and had good lunch and breakfast options. After sitting for about 10 minutes and getting water (without any glasses), our server came and took our order. We both ordered breakfast sandwiches because I had gotten their breakfast sandwich before and had been very impressed with it. About 40 minutes later, my coffee long depleted, our server brought us a complimentary red velvet waffle and apologized for the long wait, (and this is probably when I should have asked for more coffee but figured our food would be right out... it wasn't). The red velvet waffle was delicious, however, and it was perhaps the only highlight of this visit. About 10-15 minutes after the waffle, our food FINALLY arrived, even though we now had to rush through eating and paying because we had already been there for nearly an hour. When we received our bill our server did ask if I wanted more coffee, but it was too little too late. Now here is the sticking point and what drove me to Yelp this afternoon. On the menu, the breakfast sandwich is listed as follows: "Folded Eggs, Wild Mushrooms, Crispy Bacon, Boursin Spread, Arugula & Tomato on a Toasted Brioche Roll." What we actually received was: Folded Eggs, Wild Mushrooms, Crispy Bacon, Tomato.... Shredded Lettuce, NO Boursin Spread (which makes this sandwich), on a HAMBURGER BUN. And not even a good hamburger but but a cheap, wimpy, wonder bread hamburger bun. The two most important aspects of this incredible sandwich that I had had before and loved, (the spread and the brioche roll), were replaced by meager substitutes or just left out altogether. And I think we can all agree that shredded lettuce does not equal the leafy goodness that is arugula. After having had prior doubts about Addison's service, you can imagine my disappointment when, after waiting nearly an hour to receive a sandwich, I am handed something that looks only somewhat like what I had ordered, while the server made no mention of substitute ingredients. So while I may hate to give a poor review to a restaurant that I really want to do well, I'm essentially done with Addison. There are so many many more brunch places worth my time like Dime Store, or Rose's Fine Foods, or Brooklyn Street, or Trinosophes... (the list goes on and on), that I can't be bothered with terrible service and food that may or may not turn out the way it's described. [Honestly this is a good thing for Detroit because it means that the competition is getting better and businesses have to meet higher consumer expectations in order to succeed. Unfortunately due to Addison's proximity to the new arena district, I doubt they'll be able to stay open if they fail to get their act together both in the front of house and in the kitchen.]

When there were only two tables filled on a Friday night, that should have been a clue to go elsewhere. Took over twenty minutes to get two Cobb salads and a bowl of soup. Waiter did not have any idea what he was doing. Another couple came in and left after 15 minutes of no one paying any attention to them. Also, $17. for a hamburger? This is not The Chop House. Will not return

Came here for a quick sunday brunch awhile ago , and when no other places could really fit us in a timely manner , this place was open . Not sure we even needed a reservation . I had the breakfast sandwich , and my man had the seafood omelette . My sandwich was delicious . The Boursin cheese spread really made it . The seafood omelette was cooked perfectly. The shrimp was still tender and flavors were delicious . While the food isn't super fancy , it's definitely still elevated and for a great price . Can't wait to go back.

I had no complaints with the service. The food did take a tiny bit long to come out but it was worth it. Our waiter even bought us mimosas. The shrimp and grits were great! Successful brunch!

This restaurant just opened in November and they really did try to please, but failed to do so. Well what we ordered was tasty, it was nothing outstanding . We had the ratatouille sandwich and the breakfast sandwich. The ratatouille one was a bit soggy. The breakfast sandwich was just an ok sandwich I could have made at home. I didn't time it, but it seems like it took about a half an hour for us to receive our food. It was also quite noisy. Staff was very nice and helpful but I didn't like the restaurant enough to go back.

Came here for Easter brunch as it was list listed as one of the best places for brunch. The decor was very nice and the menu looked promising. It was downhill from there. The front of the house seemed very confused and under staffed. Water glasses were in short supply for everyone and had to repeatedly ask for more silverware even after our food came. Ended up sharing a napkin with my son. My wife asked if they had Coke Zero which was replied with a noticed sharp no. Still waiting for a refill on my coffee. The food was ok, but there was a disparity in the portion sizes. Some dishes were very generous while others were far less. My corned beef hash was really heavy on the onions and the portion was small. The pancakes were very thin and the shrimp and grits came with a scant portion of shrimp. On top of it all, after waiting for awhile- had to ask someone to take our payment. All in all, it was has great potential but lacks the follow through.

Great food for an early am breakfast post night shift. Service is a little slow but the food makes up for it. Amazing Nutella related foods.

We had dinner here last week to celebrate our daughters birthday. Thursday evening at 6:30. We (3) were the only table in the place. Husband and daughter ordered steak and I ordered the stuffed chicken. Waiter gave us a heads up that the chicken dish takes about 20-25 minutes, so we decided to order an appetizer. 15 minutes later our appetizer AND the steaks arrived at the table. 15 minutes after that my stuffed chicken arrived. Not sure what was up with the timing of our dinner, but I'm sure that the kitchen was not overwhelmed with orders. No explanation or apology was offered. Steaks were less than good and the asparagus served with both meals was virtually petrified and un-edible! My stuffed chicken was very good...to bad I was not able to enjoy it with the rest of our table. Signature cocktails...$14 each.... Really? Not likely to return.

We stopped by this place after seeing it on Eater Detroit. First off the air was not working at all so it felt like a sauna inside. The hostess was somewhat clueless about what was going on, we were told the place was under new Mngt within the last 30 days or so??? Ok..... We were dropped off a piece of paper with about 8 items and were told that was the menu??? Cmon people get with the program you have a ton of competition in Detroit, if you can't do it right you shouldn't be playing the game!!! No one came to our table so after 5 minutes of literal sweating because of the sauna like affect we walked out. Also the bar area looked very unorganized a ton of missing and empty bottles of alcohol, not a good look. My guess is that the food could be good, but if your front of the house can't perform your not giving your kitchen staff a chance to show what they can do....??? Management or ownership you really need help here!!!

  • Kristi M.

The server must also be the cook here because I really don't know where disappears to in between serving the food. Half our parties food came out cold and the other half came out 15 minutes later and missing items. The food was OKAY but not worth the bad service. The atmosphere is nice and the location is great but we won't be back.

The comments below pretty much some up how terrible this place is. This place I'd permanently shut down. Padlocks on doors and signs taken down, probably for good reason. Check the other reviews that are hidden.

Corned beef hash and sweet potato pancakes were both on point. Coffee was strong (and very reasonable at $1.50). Prices overall are very reasonable for generous portions of delicious food. Service was friendly. Will definitely return. Welcome addition to the neighborhood. Seemed like a good setup at the bar to watch games too.

Tried this new place after church - used to be Atlas Bistro. Had great menu. Stuff for kids. Waited FOREVER to be served. Food was good but would try something else before going back here. Hard to wait for so long and expect the kids to be patient.

The food is great.... I get t it to go... I'm lazy on Sunday's... For the full experience eat there... The wait is pretty long because the food is so good! The chef is superly creative his Sunday brunch is awesome! It's close by one of the many midtown foodie spots to try out

Addison, you have so much potential. The wait was a bit much to get seated, as there is no hostess. We ordered red velvet waffles, the Addison breakfast and oatmeal. The waffles and breakfast were good. The oatmeal was absolutely terrible. How can you screw up oatmeal you ask? You pour salt in it. Like a lot. My sister and I both took bites and our tongues are on fire!! The waiter apologized profusely and brought her toast and didn't charge for either. He said the cook added corn meal by mistake, but that doesn't make sense. Anyway, the wait for the food was long, the wait for the check was long, the wait for the change was long, none made sense since the place was pretty empty. We might try once again when the kinks are worked out.

By far the worst overall restaurant experience in quite awhile. The food left much to be desired; seasoning unevenly distributed on food. Literally uncooked, unabsorbed seasoning prevalent in patches on meat. Multiple waitresses handling several tables created confusion and to add insult to injury, multiple patrons at separate tables requested to speak with the manager about the service, food, etc and were put off for over 20 minutes while he insisted he was handling a business call. Said manager appeared, seated a table and blatantly ignored the patrons waiting to air complaints. We were excited to patronize the new neighborhood restaurant however we were left with the impression that our business was neither appreciated or desired. We WILL NOT be returning to this establishment Given the fact that our concerns were not important to management. Sorely disappointed!

Welcome to Sucktown. Table for two? My husband and I had our sights set on Hudson Cafe, but when we got there, it was packed and the wait was too long. So we decided to try another place in New Center and passed Addison Eatery along the way. Located where Atlas Global Bistro used to be, it looked cute and was busy but not full. So we decided to give it a go. While he parked, I quickly scanned the Yelp reviews and found a mixed bag. I really, really should've heeded the bad reviews, as this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Once inside, we waited for 15 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad. But then it was another 20 minutes before a server came over. By then, we'd had plenty of time to decide, so we ordered right away. My husband ordered the Addison breakfast AND a red velvet waffle (he was hungry!). I ordered the steak and eggs. We both ordered coffees and mimosas. After getting our mimosas, it was easily another 30-40 minutes before my husband's Addison and my steak and eggs arrived--no red velvet waffle in sight. He enjoyed it (hence the one star). My steak, which I ordered medium rare, was well-done and tough. I'm not usually a sender-backer, but I just couldn't eat it. So back it went. He finished his meal while I waited, and waited, and waited. My husband's waffle finally arrived and it was pretty tasty! Then our waitress came back with our coffee. She was practically in tears, spewing "I'm sorry"s all over the place. She was sweet, but green as new grass, explaining that our coffees had taken so long because they'd run out of dishes--something you just don't share with customers. Then she told us that they were really stressing her out in the back. There, there honey. There, there. Now please go get my steak. She comes back 10 minutes later saying that she'd comped the waffle and mimosas and that my steak, which is now bigger, was coming soon. After she left, the hostess asked if we were okay, I told her no and explained about the steak. She apologized and said she'd look into it. Still, I waited. Finally, I decided that if it didn't arrive in the next ten minutes, we were leaving. Well, I should've made it five minutes because it came with two minutes to spare. And it was NOT AT ALL worth the wait. The sunny-side-up eggs were so runny that they were not edible, unless I wanted to take a gamble on getting a food-borne illness. The steak was the right temp, but had a weird fake grill taste to it. The fries were delish and that's basically what I had for brunch. Most of the steak and all of the eggs went uneaten. Sad Server came back, again apologizing, and I asked to see the manager. With a bowed head, she said, "I'll go get him." He showed up 10 minutes later, at which point I jiggled my eggs with a fork, asking, "Now would you want to eat these eggs?" He said no and said he'd take the steak off the bill. I told him that we were not picky people, but that the service was simply unacceptable. He said that he understood and told us that we were handling it better than most had--which made it seem like getting ripped a new one was par for his course. Once he left, we waited for an adjusted bill and finally got fed up. We paid the (original) reduced check, gave Sad Server a nice tip--assuring her that it wasn't her fault--and left. To channel Peter Griffin, what really grinds my gears is that it's rare that we can have a meal out without the kids and they completely ruined the outing. Of all the restaurants in all of Detroit, we had to walk into that one. Honestly, the service was so awful that it seemed like they'd just opened the day before. Other greatest misses: * The busboy prepping tables was actually putting the knives and forks in the wrong spot. Isn't that like busing 101? * The coffee was super weak * The place wasn't even crowded and it still took forever to be served * I was given a short cocktail straw in my water glass, which I'd have to fish out to use * My steak came TWICE with no steak knife If you are considering this place, don't. Just don't. Sad Server and I don't recommend it.

Maybe the food is good... I dunno, never had the chance to make it to a table to order! I understand there is some variability in wait times, and establishments do not want to make customers feel rushed, but after a 10 minute wait that was 40, we left. During this time neither our party of 3 nor other parties of 2 and more behind us were seated though several tables opened up and the tables were bussed. There were even a couple larger parties that over the course of 30 minutes dwindled, but managed to keep their the entire table. I guess it should have been apparent something was up as we kept seeing the chief walk out to of the kitchen to check on things even though no food was being served. Oh well, better places to spend the afternoon than waiting for a seat at Addison!

I bought a Living Social deal for this place. The only stipulation was that it be used for dinner between 6-11 PM. Our first visit was a Saturday night a little before 9 PM. We went in and the place was pretty empty. There were two tables sat and a few people at the bar. The hostess comes up and tells us it's going to be a minute. Then she said there weren't any tables available and we had to be seated at the bar. After we were seated, they gave us a bar menu. We said we wanted dinner, and it was at this point we were told the kitchen was already closed. Okay....so we left and figured we'd try again another night. I almost wish we hadn't. We returned the next Sat. much earlier - about 7 PM. They were just as dead as the prior week, but the kitchen was open this time. We were seated, the hostess brought us some water, and the waiter took our drink order (a Coke). Maybe 10 mins later the waiter came to bring a carafe of water. He didn't have my Coke. I asked about it, and he said they don't carry Coke. I found out they have Pepsi, and that was fine with me. We ordered an appetizer and our entrees then. We didn't see the server again for maybe half an hour. He arrived with our entrees. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese (meh), and it comes in a cast iron skillet on a plate. He set it down at an awkward angle to me, so I went to adjust it. Now, I realize cast iron is hot, but I wasn't paying enough attention and I hit my hand on it and yelled because it was so hot. Most servers will give you a heads up when something is even remotely warm. Not this guy. He laughed and said, "yeah, that's hot" after the fact. I still have a blistered burn on my hand and it's 4 days later. He went to leave and then stopped and said "We were out of stuffed mushrooms." That was our appetizer. He didn't feel the need to let us know at the beginning of our meal, when we would have had an opportunity to order another appetizer. My husband ordered the trout. On the menu, it comes with rice pilaf. In actuality, he got mashed potatoes and broccolini. They must have been out of rice and didn't feel the need to say anything. One of the other 3 tables had vacated pretty early on. Their dirty dishes sat there until well after we were gone, I'm sure. The manager (I'm guessing) came over with the waiter to help with our Living Social coupon. Neither of them felt the need to clear my husband's dishes while they were there. Right after we got the bill, the waiter switched gears and started clearing things without asking. He took my Pepsi and water (I wasn't done, and they weren't empty). He stood right there awkwardly staring at me as I was putting my coat on, just waiting for me to leave. This was long, but it boils down to this summary: Average food (although we both had stomachaches that night), POOR SERVICE (bad management and training), not worth your time. So many better places to spend your time and money. I don't see them sticking around too long if they keep up like this.

We had a great experience this morning at the Addison Eatery. The menu is full of tasty dishes. I had the sweet potato pancakes and my wife had the seafood omelette, both were delicious. Overall the service was great and the food was excellent! We look forward to going back on a regular basis.

Barely a star, 6tables at lunch on a friday with cupls and a 8top. My fiance and i ordered 2salads, there was missing ingredients on each salad. But after waiting 37min for our salads we werent abt to say anything till we tastes the unedible dressing, so terrible. So i did have to go track down our waiter with the worst breath ever. We could smell it from us being seated and him standing taking our order. And i asked for different dressing, he literally went to the fridge in front of me and yelled off names of dressing they had incl the 2that he had already served us. O yeah they only had 2other choices, really couldnt even remember a few dressings. Horrid place over priced and stupid staff. Did i mention that my fiances salad had 5medium sized shrimp and a few slivers of apples with some raw pecans"not candied" like the menu said. Seriously i wouldnt even have wastes my time writing a review after skiming the few others i read. But my stomach ache is getting progressivly worse. If you have an hour for lunch and and want wrong food and that tastes cheap and like it was uncovered a few days in a fridgerator then this place is just especially for you.

Had breakfast there this morning. Knowing that this was a restaurant owned by the person who opened the Hudson Cafe, I was hoping for good things and I was not disappointed. Great breakfast in a wonderfully restored storefront location on Woodward. I ordered the Addison Breakfast and was not disappointed. Great bacon. Nicely done potatoes with spices and veggies that don't overwhelm the potatoes, but add some very nice interesting tastes to what otherwise is rather boring at most places. The scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection. Service was very nice: prompt and attentive, but not overwhelming, allowing me to carry on a nice conversation with my table mates without being unduly interrupted. Overall the portions were very reasonable, just the right amount of food with reasonable prices given the quality of the food, ambiance & service (if you're looking for a huge coney island breakfast at coney island prices, go to a coney island where you also get what you pay for). There are only three TVs in the whole place and they're all at the bar. Glad to see that they are relegated to just there (why so many people need omnipresent TVs is a topic for another day...). Very nice open ambiance with high ceilings, exposed brick walls, stained woods and great big views onto and down Woodward. Despite all the openness the place is somehow is not loud and it's easy to have a private conversation at your table. I only have two minor quibbles, and these are rather slight quibbles: the toast and the coffee. The toast was good, but given how good everything else was it would be nice if the bread used had a bit more substance and texture to it and didn't look like mass produced bagged bread off a grocery store shelf. The coffee was pretty good, but again with how good the rest of the food was, it would be nice if the quality of the coffee was taken up a notch to really good/great coffee. The owner was there and talking to folks at the tables. He said that having been open for 3 months the place is still working out the kinks (not sure where those are - I didn't see any) but a new sign is on its way, dinner service should be starting soon and outdoor dining will be coming in the spring/summer once the M-1 Rail construction is done. Those will all take an already great restaurant and make it even better.

The food was amazing, my 16 year old son kept raving about his hamburger and fries, a simple hamburger and fries! They put their own twist on everything that makes it especially delicious. Someone who adores food made this menu. Nice atmosphere. Great for people watching. This is no greasy spoon so take your time and don't expect great food to be placed in front of you 8 minutes after you order. Go to Coney if you want fast. Our server was so nice and down to earth I wanted to keep him. I'm kinda offended that one reviewer called this place an "overpriced typical breakfast joint." I've never had red velvet waffles with some kind of amazing cream stuff that made me want to lick the plate at a Travis, where is HE eating breakfast? The bill was $37 for three people, very reasonable. (Side note: Garfield, please RELAX. You have the staff on edge and don't forget that Detroit is anything but pretentious. People will come to the Addison for the amazing food, atmosphere, location. Don't fret if the napkins aren't on the table.)

I am one of those people who lives to eat, instead of the other way around. So just reading the menu at Addison Eatery made my taste buds do a happy dance! I ordered the Shrimp and Grits. This dish was an amazing combination of flavors, layered one after the other! The grits were super creamy, with cheddar cheese, roasted corn and arugula. The shrimp was wrapped in bacon. It was a party for my tastebuds!! Our table also had the Red Velvet Waffle and the Fish Tacos... WOW! It was all delicious!! The Addison has only been open for a few days, so they're still working out a few kinks in service. But The management is clearly serious about making sure they provide good service. Once the opening kinks are worked out and the full bar is open, this place will be untouchable.

Awful. Worst service in Detroit. This place won't be around long. Don't bother wasting your time or money.

I really wanted to like this place but in reality, it is nothing more than an overpriced breakfast joint wanting to be something it isn't. I saw the chef on a Food Network show (Guy Fieri's Grocery Wars if I remember correctly) and maybe our expectations were too high. The menu is decent but way overpriced for the Detroit market. Speciality french toast with a side of sausage will set you back $16. Ouch. This isn't NY or Chicago. We had french toast and a western omelette which was $12. The former was good but nothing remarkable. The omelette was over cooked but the potatoes which came with it were excellent. The coffee was very good was well. Our server (Elliot I believe) was a really nice guy but was very slow and never came back to check on us after bringing the food. Overall it was not memorable and I wouldn't recommend it. if you want a great breakfast downtown, just go down the street to the Hudson Cafe or to the DIme Store. Much better food and quite a bit cheaper.

Delicious food. Quality and delicious, well worth the price. Great location for people watching. Wish there was a bar, larger menu, and they were open for dinner!

The Addison Eatery is a great, yet bit spartan space right on Woodward Avenue. The menu options for breakfast do a whole lot more than cover your basics, and I appreciate that. My partner had the seafood omelette which was accompanied by the "house"potatoes. Now, look. We all have been to plenty of places which have "house" potatoes, but the Addison's "house" potatoes really are the real deal. I honestly cannot remember a time that I have had such an amazing and flavorful breakfast potato (outside my own kitchen that is!) I had the apple french toast, and trust me when I tell you, this is not your ordinary french toast dipped in some egg wash. In fact, the french toast had a rich and delicious custard-like texture which was incredible. The apple topping (also house made) was outstanding. No need for syrup here, folks! The side of bacon was of good quality too, as was the full-bodied coffee. One puzzling thing was the absence of rye toast as an option, but because everything else was so exceptionally well done, I'll forgive them this slight misstep. Speaking of missteps, we did have one minor incident with one of our meals, yet the owner more than made up for it. In fact, he took great steps to apologize and make everything right. I have to admit, I'm now excited to give their lunch and dinner options a whirl, too. Several other diners had lunch while we were dining, and I have to say that it all looked very appealing. One last thing-the Addison was playing a fantastic blend of music on our visit, and it really gave a place a nice vibe. Be sure to give this bright new spot a shot-you won't be disappointed!

Today's visit to Addison Eatery was my second visit. My first vist on Sunday was excellent, food and service. Today's visit will be my last. I ordered the Addison breakfast and coffee. My companion ordered the chicken and waffle. The coffee was too strong. I assume it was made early this morning and sat for several hours instead of making a fresh pot. When my order was served the breakfast sauages were shriveled, as though they were cooked yesterday and just reheated, eggs were cold, and hash brown potatoes were too spicey. The chicken was DRY and seasoned with tooo much lemon pepper and the waffle was cold. The chicken looks as though it was refried. We asked the waitress to speak to the manager, Maurice. I recognize as the former "owner" of another breakfast eatery who left abruptly. We waited 20 minutes. Inquired twice more about speaking to the manager and he never came to our table. There were five tables being served and three had complaints about the food. Finally, I paid my bill, since my business was not a priority. As a resident of Brush Park I like to spend my $$ in my neighborhood. This experience was a turn off.

Pros: friendly staff, free parking Cons: slow service, inconsistent food We came to Addison Eatery on Woodward just south of Mack on Sunday, June 28, 2015 for brunch, just after 1:00pm. The place was not, by any means, busy, but we had to wait a couple minutes while they re-set the dining room. After a few minutes we were seated. Our party consisted of four adults, and two toddlers who had skipped their naps. It took about 5 minutes for the waitress to greet us and take our drink orders. It took another 10 minutes for our drinks (coffees and orange juices) to come out. The ambience is nice, with exposed brick walls, high ceiling, and huge windows, hardwood floors throughout. They have free parking in a lot behind the building. I ordered the Nutella French Toast, my wife ordered the Addison burger, and we ordered the Addison breakfast for the kids. My sister had Nutella French Toast also, and brother-in-law had the Addison burger... So, this part is going to sound bad, but it really was not that bad: The food took FOR-EV-VER to come out. Forever. And to top it off (or not top it off), our coffees were never refilled. Usually this would be the type of service that would justifiably garner a bad review. However, that is not the case today, my friends. For some reason nobody let this bother them. It may have been a combination of the company we were with, the beautiful weather, and the overall friendliness of the entire staff, but the conversations kept flowing, the sun kept shining, and the nap-less kids were good. Finally the food arrived. The kids breakfast was perfect: eggs perfectly scrambled, bacon was thick and crispy, toast perfectly toasted. The Nutella French Toast was not as described on the menu. The description says something about peanut butter and freshly sliced bananas, but there was no peanut butter, there were no banana slices. Most importantly, the Nutella was present. The toast itself was thick and fluffy, good consistency throughout, and tasted fine, just no "wow" factor. The burgers, both ordered medium, came out well-done. However, the meat was flavorful and the runny egg added extra goodness. On our way out the hostess/manager gave us a stack of cards that are good for 10% off our next visit. I realize it sounds bad, but our overall experience was really not that bad. The staff was very friendly, everyone from the hostess to the waitress to the bus boy, etc. were all welcoming and conversational. The food could have been prepared with more care but had good flavor. With that said, I most likely will not go back to the Addison Eatery. I think the restaurant arena is extremely competitive, especially now in Detroit and in order to be successful as a restaurant your game needs to be 100% on point. I think service needs to be at a faster, steadier pace. I think the staff needs to work as one fluid team as opposed to individual parts. I think consistency in food is the most important aspect to a consumer. With all other factors being the same, if the food had come out perfectly this would have been a 4+ star review. At this point there are a ton of new restaurants within a short distance I would rather try.

Excited to visit a new local spot and left saddened by the overall experience. I purchased a discounted voucher try them in hopes of liking it and returning. I called ahead of time to see if reservations were needed. The hours are actually shortened to closing at 5pm and the menu is less than 10 items (the website has an amazing menu that is not valid). I told her I had a voucher and would it be honored for dinner since they closed at 5pm. The hostess spoke to a manager and I was told yes with a reservation taken. Bad: House fans used to cool the building. It was hot and we sat near an open door. I wasn't to keen to the open doors as it sits on a side street near Woodward. The server came over after roughly 10 minutes or so and took our order. I let her know I had a voucher and she proceeded to take it and show her manager from my phone. Well then it turned into 15+ minutes to be told that they weren't accepting it and gave 3 different excuses. The last one included that they had changed management recently and weren't doing dinner service. I had even suggested charging me dinner prices. My party was hungry and at that point it didn't matter. I ended up paying for the entire bill and they offered a discount on the meal. The voucher wasn't used and it took 45 minutes for us to get served dinner with only 2 other groups dining. Good: The decor is decent and the bathroom layout was nice. The food was good. Most of us had the Addison Burger, which came with bacon, a sunny side egg, caramelized onions, a stuffed burger, and veggies. My burger some how was missing the sauce, but the buttery brioche was still flavorful. I opted for scrambled egg on my sandwich, but it still was not all the way cooked. My family had the shrimp and grits, which was enough to feed 2 people. I also ordered chicken and waffles. An order comes with whole wings and a waffle for $11. The plain waffle went well with the seasoned chicken wings. I tasted the red velvet waffle also, but preferred the plain one. We ordered french toast, but they got the order wrong and didn't bring it out. Growth: Addison Eatery has potential and is in a prime location in Midtown/Downtown area. However it seems to be coming through some growing pains. It can be better with a few adjustments: -central cooling system functionality corrected. -communication amongst staff needs to be better(hostess/server/management should be on the same page). -wait time is currently excessive (took to long for food and it was dead). I don't know if I will return anytime soon as first impressions are important.

This place had no WOW factor. 1. Like everyone else, the service was not impressive. Took a while to order, over 30 minutes for our food, and was not checked up on after the food had arrived. 2. The ambience is OK. There was a large group of people that look liked they reserved 10 of the tables and they were noisy and did not stay seated. The decorations could be improved. 3. Okay, food discussion time. The food was average. We got the ratatouille sandwich and the breakfast sandwich. They tasted fine, we ate it all so it must have been good, but it didn't amaze us. 4. I give it 3 stars for the effort. Will I return? Probably not.

I have no idea how this place has 4 stars. After waiting for over 20 minutes for breakfast, it all came out wrong. Undercooked French toast. Two orders of eggs over cooked. One was supposed to be over easy, the other over medium, and both arrived over well. My steak was rare. That would have been awesome had I not asked for it to be medium. Service was incredibly slow as well. I literally timed our server for water refills after the glass already sat empty for ten minutes. He returned in three minutes and seventeen seconds. I guess he filtered it from the Detroit river. Don't come here. Zef's right up Woodward is a much better deal and way better food.

Went to breakfast on 5/16/2015 and had one of the worst dining experiences of recent memory. We arrived at ~10:30AM and were seated immediately, that was the only good part of the experience. The place was not packed and we saw approximately 15 patrons sitting at their tables. 30 mins went by and we did not see our waiter, at that time we have to get up, walk to the nearest employee and ask for him\her to please send someone to our table because we were ready to order. Coffee was ordered, it was only half full and there was lipstick on the rim it was clearly visible on a white cup. The carafe of water was over-filled with ice, it barely filled up the 4 glasses we had and we had to constantly ask for water & coffee to be refilled, it was never brought to us unless we asked. 11:15AM is when we finally got our order into the kitchen. 2 Waffes, Corn Beef and Hash and French Toast was the order from the table. It was approximately 11:45 by the time we received our food (not after almost receiving the wrong food from another table). Keep in mind this is 1:15Mins after we were seated. My girlfriend and I ordered the Red Velvet Waffle and the Corn Beef and Hash. The waffle was made well but that's all that it was, a waffle with some whipped cream on top with powered sugar\cocoa power sprinkled, it was not worth the $10. The Corn Beef and Hash was very poorly made. There was so much oil used in the cooking process that it could be squeezed out of the food. The eggs also were not made properly as most of the egg whites were still uncooked. This dish had so much oil in it that it made my girlfriend and I feel sick for hours after. Not worth the $14 either. Almost 2 hours after we sat down we paid and left the restaurant as soon as possible. The service was absolutely horrific and the food is abysmal to say the least. I will not return to this established and do not recommend this to anyone.
