My husband and I both had perch. His was grilled and mine was fried. Both were good. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Right on the water with a good view. Would eat there again.

This place has a great view from the porch. That is the best thing about it. It is noisy, was full of screaming kids the night we were there. The food is average-- mostly burgers and sandwiches ( we went for dinner). The molten lava dessert--much hyped, was a microwaved frozen thing--c- grade from our group . If you have screaming kids, or like average food with a view this place may be for you. I am unlikely to return.

We ate here for the first time on the 4th of July. The service was quick and friendly, and all six of us enjoyed our meals. The steak sandwich was huge, and it was very good. On Fridays they offer all you can eat perch or cod. Their fish all comes fresh from Cross Fisheries, they offered fresh whitefish, perch, cod or salmon. Everything was economically priced. We highly recommend eating here.

I think we hit this place on an off night. As we were walking in there were people turning around and leaving. When we walked in the door we realized why. There was a line of people standing in the waiting area. After a few minutes we asked someone if they were taking names and were told that the hostess had disappeared. We must have stood in line for 10 minutes before we even saw the hostess and she just showed up for a brief second and then disappeared again. We should have taken this as a cue to leave but call me persistent. It turns out that the bus staff hadn't shown up and she was busy busing tables. Again, should have taken that as a cue. We finally got seated out on the screened porch and waited about 5 minutes for our server to show up and take our drink order. Another few minutes and she returned with our drinks, and informed us that they were out of the appetizer we wanted, but she would be right back to take our order. It was about 15 minutes later that she returned looking very worn out. I commented that she looked exhausted and she said she had been there for 8 hours already and was supposed to have been off an hour ago but her replacement had not shown up. So, finally an hour after we arrived we got to place our order. The food was o.k., certainly not worth the wait. I wonder who is running this place. It seems mismanaged when several staff members don't show up and the service goes to pot. I felt bad for our poor server who was dragging by the end of our meal. It seemed that we were one of her last tables and we skipped dessert so this poor girl could go home already.

My fiancé and I have been to Kelsey's twice in our visits to Charlevoix. The first time, we came on a Saturday and walked in between 2 and 3. We stood in the waiting area for at least ten minutes (I'm not sure why we waited) before even seeing a staff member to flag down so we could be seated. No apology or acknowledgement was made when we were finally seated. The food we ordered was pretty average but good. It was almost a year ago so I don't remember exactly what we ordered. Service was very slow - we only saw our waitress maybe three times the entire visit. We chalked up the sub-par service to it being in the middle of the afternoon and during their slow period and resolved to give it another chance later. Today, almost a year since our last visit, we are back in Charlevoix and decided that it was a good opportunity to give Kelsey's a second chance. We arrived at 6:30 for dinner to once again find no one watching the waiting area. This time though we only stood awkwardly for about a minute, so we didn't hold it against them. Perhaps they don't have a dedicated greeter and that job gets divvied up among the staff. Service however again proved to be quite slow. It took ten minutes for our server to appear, although she did apologize for the wait. The restaurant seemed to be at about 50% capacity, so not sure if they were short-staffed or what the hold-up was. We placed our order and waited fifteen minutes for our appetizer to arrive and then another twenty after that for our food to come. Left the waitress a good tip though because she apologized for waits and seemed hurried. Now the food - My fiancé and I are suckers for pretzels and cheese, so naturally we decided to try the pretzel bites with beer cheese. For a price tag of $7, I was absolutely stunned to be served 8 pretzel balls on a salad plate with a condiment cup of cheese that looked like it came out of a can from Meijer. Something like that I would pay $3 for max. They must make an insane profit margin off of that dish. The entrees were the saving grace. My fiancé got the cherry chicken salad (sans chicken) and said that it was very good, albeit with strawberries that looked slightly old. I got the black and blue burger with fries. It comes with avocados, bacon and a blue cheese sauce. It was much more fairly priced and quite delicious, although I was confused why the server bothered to ask how I wanted the burger done since it definitely seems like the kind of beef patty that can only be done one way- as grey as the patties at Wendy's or McDonalds. The fries were fantastic and worth the up-charge. I would recommend this restaurant with major caveats and only if my friends had time to kill. TL;DR Service and wait times definitely need attention and efficiency adjustments. Food was good, but beware the pretzel bites as they are insanely overpriced for what you get.

The food was tasty (I had the locally-caught whitefish with veggies) and portions plentiful, plus it's right near the water with an indoor-outdoor patio. However, the manager was an odd duck. He seemed put out that we wanted to combine tables, so our group could sit together. He was surly and never smiled. When my uncle complained about his food being burnt, the manager seemed to take offense, rather than apologizing and making it right. If he's more of a business person than a people person, maybe he should abstract himself from heavy interaction with customers.

Went 3 times over the past few venetians. Terrible service, rude waitress and a hair in my fettuccine. No interest in ever going back.

Our experience wasn't great at all. The food wasn't really good . They drenched the fish in butter. We got maybe 5 onion rings we paid extra for and when the turkey burger came with like maybe 7 fries even the waitress said, let me get you some more. You think I paid extra for those as well. The potatoes had so much garlic in them no one at our table could eat them. Thank god we didn't pay for drinks and just got water lol I wouldn't recommend this place .. Also the server never came back to check in us!

Waitress skills need a tuning for the type of clientele that comes in , but everyone works together so it makes up for it. Prime rib was dry but it was a great bike ride to get there , next to a playground for the kids afterwards and they are all so nice !

Spicy Bloody Mary, very spicy and very good and was only $6. Comes with a mini shot of beer. Windows on porch were open to let in a cool breeze. It's not directly on the water. There's a parking lot between the porch and the water. Loved the turkey panini and kettle chips. Very fresh and yummy. We also had the Kelsey's burger and cheese quesadilla. Both were great and would order again. Yes, it's loud, but it's a casual, relaxed, family restaurant. Service was so so. No one was very friendly. Would eat here again if in the area.
