kept reading this is the best thai in se michigan and was really hungry so decided to finally give it a try. mistake! the best part was the brothy chicken soup as a first course. got some type of veggie(did not specify what type of veggies)/tofu mix with rice. the stir-fry was extremely watery with only an odd flavor. tofu seemed to be more like seitan, which i didn't mind. mainly baby corn (can't stand) some type of oriental mushroom, green peppers and the "tofu". Mainly tasteless. give me chinese any day. hubby got some chicken stir-fry and liked it. he also ate mine. just goes to show its a matter of personal taste. he agrees tho we will not go back.

Hands down, my fav Thai restaurant ever. I grew up in Canton and have eaten here a million times. Still haven't found a Thai restaurant that I like better. Lunch portions are hearty, dinner has more options. Favorite dishes below: Pineapple rice w/ Tofu Drunken Noodles w/ anything Red Curry w/ Chicken Angry Shrimp! The location isn't super impressive, and if you didn't know better you would drive right past it -- but now you know better.

Not better than my beloved Sy Thai in Birmingham, but definitely a good supplement if you live on this side of town. I had the pad-see-ew of course and it was very flavorful and had the perfect amount of spice. Definitly recommend this place. Beware, it is a little pricey compared to some others.

Tried this for the first time recently. Was not your typical thai menu. No #8 chicken like every other thai place in Detroit. Food was OK, but pricey. Had to pay $3 extra for shrimp rather than chicken on one dish, and it only had 3 pieces of shrimp. Probably would not go back. Too many other thai places to choose from.

I love this place! And I'm glad that so many others here feel the same way. The only thing I'd disagree with is that the restuarant is cheap - maybe the lunch prices are, but if you're looking to dine here after 5pm be prepared to shell out some cash. The good news is, many of their dishes taste divine. I'm a huge fan of their pad thai, which I know is such a "tried and true" Thai meal that it borders on boring for some of you, but damn does it ever taste good at Thai Bistro. I order it with tofu and I'm all set. I've had the spring rolls for appetizers too, as well as the Thai fried rice, and both of them are quite good. I never order pork but a family member ordered a pork dish that they swore had their tastebuds singing from the hills. Sometimes this restaurant is jam-packed with people while other times it can feel a bit too quiet. As long as you go at a decent time (so you're not the only people in the restaurant talking above a whisper), I would say that it's a good place to take a date. Really, this is the one place in Canton I've been to that I would say qualifies as a "fine dining destination." Whether you're in the mood for something sweet or spicy, Thai Bistro hits the spot.

Very good food, never had a disappointing meal. If you like Thai, this place compares favorably to any Thai restaurant I've dined in, anywhere.....so give it a try.

ho hum thai food. nothing really exciting about this place except maybe nee-hee's next door. the decor was horrible, like eating at a restaurant inside a mall. and not like a restaurant at sommerset, more like oakland mall. the food was nothing exciting. i was told to have the fried rice. that is not the recommendation i expect from a thai restaurant. i went with a green curry that came with shrimp and various veggies. the green pepper was uncooked.i like fresh veggies, but not ones that seem to have been thrown in right before you served it to me. the green beans (green beans?) seemed frozen. the curry itself was very silky and had a little spice to it, which surprised me. love, juston

If they didn't have the shrimp spring roll app then my rating would drop to 2 stars. I crave that app. The entrees are pretty meh - I usually stick with the noodle dishes here, but I've also tried the fancier fried rices and some curries. While the meats and veggies are fresh, I'm bummed by the lack of shrimp when that is your protein choice. I do not care for Thai restaurants where you have to ask for the condiment caddy...not because you want to spice up your dish but because you HAVE to. If I wanted bland food I would eat Almond Chicken! Expensive, even for lunch. I think they were better years ago, when I first found them. Or maybe they haven't changed at all but we've found better Thai since then? Not sure.

I went here on someone's word that it was the best Thai place in the Washtenaw/Wayne area - a surprising notion considering Canton isn't known for it's restaurants (other than chains, that is. no offense to Cantonites). I wasn't impressed, but it was still pretty tasty. The chicken skewers we had here were good, especially with their peanut sauce. The tofu I ordered for my appetizer was flavorless, but it too benefited from a generous portion of peanut sauce - I'm a sucker for a good peanut sauce. Siam Square in Ann Arbor is better, but this place is a little closer and a bit cheaper. I might end up going again sometime to give it another chance.

Best thing about Thai Bistro is their consistently good food. My favorites are chicken or tofu pad thai, drunken noodles, and green curry. Don't expect to have any leftovers to take home except for the Pad Thai. Everything is pretty much a one meal portion (except pad thai, which is a very full plate). Food is delicious. I took my family here when they were visiting and they loved it also. Only thing I would not recommend is the Pad See Eew which was too sweet. Service is good. Prices can be slightly on the higher side of what I like to pay but it is worth it. I come here often when I want to treat myself. I've also tried Lai Thai restaurant down the road. Only thing I had there was Pad Thai, which I thought was good but not better than Thai Bistro's.

It is a restaurant that is in Canton for a long time. I recently went for lunch. I had the Curry fried rice with Chicken. The taste was not exactly that of Curry fried rice. It tasted like regular Thai fried rice. The quantity was small. I felt hungry after linch which never happened when I had lunch at other Thai restaurants. The service was good and they do offer a small cup of soup with lunch. I wish they increase the portion size of lunch items as they charge more for lunch compared to other Thai restaurants in Canton.

Great Thai food at a reasonable price. I have gone here a few times and is my preferred spot in Canton. I have had the Gang Ped, Thai Fried rice and other Vegetables with Chicken or shrimp. Good place for take out or dine in. I would recommend this place.

It doesn't help this place that it is so close to better Thai. I used to love it years back but I have moved on to better. I don't know if my palette changed but it just is not as good as I once loved, it just disappoints me more because it used to be so much tastier. The portions are big but I think they are still a little pricey comparitively at dinner. If you want seafood it is 13-18 bucks. If you want more than one serving of white rice they charge you 2.69. That is just wow, charging for extra white rice, seriously. With a shrimp loving big eater like my husband that can get spendy. I also just find the food to be a little bland for my taste, heat as requested yes but less depth of flavor in many of my faves. They also seem less eager to add things like extra garlic, you ask and they say ok but it arrives and it is not extra really and you sigh to yourself but settle. Service is fine. Atmosphere is minimalist strip mall with photos to jazz it up. Nothing to write home about on either front. I am just not wowed anymore. There is better out there. I hate when places rest on their reputations rather than what they do now.

Its been a long time since I was last at Thai Bistro and now I remember why. The place isnt bad. The food was decent, but I did order hot and the lady told me it was too spicy for me and I should order medium. That was a little disappointing because I LOVE my food HOT. So, my curry came out not hot enough.... The flavor was good, sauce was full of goodness but again, just not hot enough. I did like the soup of the day, which was full of salt, rice and floating pieces of pork. The cost was between $7.29-$7.49 and came with soup, which wasnt too bad. The decor leaves much to be desired. We were, however, waited on promptly and the food came out immediately- a great experience if you are on a time constraint!

If you could pick the one most authentic, most delicious place to enjoy one's first stateside Thai meal since last April's trip to Thailand, this would NOT BE IT. The prices are atrocious for the portions you get. $17 for pad prik king?!? They charge almost $3 for extra rice. EGREGIOUS! Since I was in playing-it-safe mode, I ordered the pad see ew. I knew the pad prik king would (probably?) be better buuuut I didn't want to shell out $17. The spice level was pretty bland. I ordered it hot, it felt like medium. The broccoli was American, not Chinese. The noodles were okay, as was the sauce. My dining companion was curious to know how this measured up to Thailand. I politely steered the conversation elsewhere. But, allow me to ask this: remember the Worst Toilet in Scotland in the film "Trainspotting?" Ok, that's not fair. There's no way most of the Thai joints in this state could compare to Thailand. So...how would this place measure up to other Thai restaurants I've enjoyed in SE Michigan? Second Worst Toilet in Scotland. The most authentic (and best) part of the meal was the dessert: a (small) morsel of banana wrapped inside sweet sticky rice steamed in a banana leaf. Sweet sticky rice is the stuff of higher beings, especially when paired with creamy mango or banana (I prefer mango). The portion, however, was infinitesimal for the price. I will be coming back...but walking past this place and into Neehee's.

I'd heard great things before we headed here for dinner tonight. It was pretty good, and we'll probably go again. Parking was easy at the strip mall, and the seating inside was roomy and comfortable. My daughter liked watching the fish in their tank. I got the Pad Thai. I ordered it with chicken and shrimp, but it only came with the chicken. It was still tasty. It tasted a little sweeter than the Pad Thai I'd had other places, but since I hate anything very spicy, it was perfect for me. My husband got the Whiskey Beef and was disappointed. Although the menu didn't state it, the sauce that came on the side was made with fish oil, which he can't eat. The waitress brought him the soy sauce and a spice sauce for him to do whatever he wanted with. Our friend had something that was actually spicy enough for him to like - that's high praise coming from him! The children's menu just had a burger or 'dinosaur chicken' on it, so we ordered our daughter a fried rice plate and brought most of it home as leftover. She did love what she ate, though.

Went here with my wife who is from Cambodia, and the food was not spicy and it was more sweet than traditional Thai food, it was also quite expensive as we just got the 2 entrees and an ice tea for me and it was 30 dollars. Not your normal traditional Thai restaurant.

hmmm.. Since when pad thai is cooked with ketchup? it just tasted weird. That how my night started. but it didn't get worse then that. Pad See Ew was pretty good, but the pad thai is just plain weird. I can't say they are trying to create something different.. because it is not. We never tried this place before, so took a chance. Was expecting to be pretty good because of the amount of people eating in there. But seriously, since when ketchup and pad thai are best friends? lol Anyways- It is a thai restaurant I guess gear toward profit ?!? or just cater to the more americanize taste? no idea.. but probably wont go back.... because pad thai shouldn't be cook with ketchup specially when the price is 12 bucks. lol

I have been a frequent diner of Thai Bistro since the 90's, when it opened. After two visits in the past month, the experiences have been average. In February during a dine-in visit, I managed to grab the owner to ask about a signature dish that is not on the menu. When I praised my continued patronage of this restaurant for years, she could of cared a less, stating "we'll do the dish if you would like." Along with the non-welcoming response, my lunch was served without the attention to detail to the presentation and flavor wasn't up to standards of the past. Yesterday, I attempted to order a carry-out- my favorite eggplant dinner dish. The lady who answered the phone could barely speak English. She put me on hold to obtain another person who could understand my order. (From a management perspective, one would think to have a solid understanding English speaking person to take a simple order). Nevertheless, my carry-out was taken care of. I got home and the ratio of tofu to vegetables was off. It was also overwhelmed with sugar, drowning out any/all of the spices. Bringing these experiences to the attention of management is like falling on deaf-ears, since its success continues. Now, because of the last few experiences, I pause to make it point to go out of my way to visit. It's a shame- Thai Bistro has been my favorite Thai restaurants in the Detroit metro area.

I travel across the country for my job and have eaten a lot of Thai food from CA to DC. This place ranks super high on my list. The red curry was EXCEPTIONAL! Very high quality ingredients and cooked to order. The wait staff was superb. Truly a gem of a restaurant! Will definitely be going back.

I had their Masaman also. It was okay. Not sure how to judge it. I may call it too sweet with a lot of coconut milk. It needs more savory spices. It was not bad though, but portion was WAY TOO SMALL for the price range. Even the rice served is too little. To build a relative,my favorite Masaman is from a franchise called Bangcock cuisine; I visit the detroit one near the wayne state campus (where I get it at 'medium' spice).

My husband and I relocated back to Michigan after living in Chicago for 3 years. I ate at Thai Bistro once before moving to Chicago and it was fine. I had no thai food experience. I gained lots of experience in Chicago eating Thai. My husband and I have been thinking about this place for awhile now. Today we had lunch there. Delicious. I ordered the spring roll and Gang Garee. I have been looking for a mild "yellow" curry chicken dish since returning to the D. The curry wasn't yellow but it was exactly what I was looking for. Oh the flavors! My husband had the spring roll and Fried Rice with Chicken. Everyone's food around us looked good. One review had commented that there were no Asians dining here. Today there was one table of men- Asian and Indian. The other table had an Indian couple. A couple was coming in as we left and they were Hispanic. My meal wasn't on the lunch menu so it was $12+ but I had enough to eat and take some home for another lunch. My husband ate all of his meal (from the lunch menu). I didn't think the price was too high. The place was clean, the service was good, and the meal was great. This is our go-to place for Thai! I am so happy. My cousin visited in Chicago and we took her to our fave Thai place for lunch. When we moved she said we had to find a new Thai place and meet again for Thai food. I sent her an email saying we have found a place. Yippie! Look forward to trying the Pad Thai and other dishes.

Do you like Thai food? If you haven't heard about this place you should really give it a try. Although it doesn't taste entirely authentic it is still pretty good and portions are large. Located in a strip mall with easy parking. You could easily stop here on your way to mass shopping in IKEA. It's small casual restaurant with plenty of booth seating. Pad Thai is good, so is any type of basil (ka paow) stir fry here. It's definitely worth passing up Siam Square or Tuptim to come here.

This restaurant is exceedingly mediocre, while there may be certain well-executed elements (ie. fresh vegetables and tender chicken in some dishes), on the whole, this establishment consistently serves salt laden, sloppy, unappetizing dishes. The service seems to care, but has little idea how to best serve their patrons. Given the plethora of other Thai restaurants in the area, why spend time and money eating mediocre food in a mediocre environment?

First word: overpriced. My husband and I had water, a spring roll ($1.79 each) and an entree. With a 20 percent tip, the total bill wsas $32. I think that is ridiculous for Canton, Mich., for two people eating Thai food. They also charge you extra for more rice. Entrees can range up to $18. At a lot of Thai places, you are given such generous helpings that you have leftovers. Only one of us had leftovers. To be fair the food was tasty. However, I have never really had Thai food that wasn't. My recommendation is to drive to Northville and eat at the downtown Thai place there.

This is my favorite Thai place in the entire country. Granted, I haven't been to all the Thai restaurants, but I've been to a good 50 or so different Thai places and none of them ever measures up to Thai bistro. When I was going to school in Ann Arbor, we would drive out to Canton bi-weekly just to get our Thai Bistro fix. Sadly, I live in DC now so can only get Thai Bistro once in awhile when I come back to Michigan, but I often dream of it. The service is fast, the prices are cheap, and the food is divine. Love the red curry, love the pad thai, love the dish of tofu and vegetables the name of which I can't remember, LOVE the pineapple fried rice. I haven't had a single subpar thing here. They actually opened one up in DC for a short time, but the food was not nearly as good and neither was the business; they closed down pretty quickly. If I could get Thai Bistro delivered to DC, I would order it even if I had to pay the hundred bucks to ship it that far. Till then, I'll just have to make do with my yearly visit.

The food was very good but a little more spicy than I liked so they offer to remake the dish. I really appreciated it. The service was great. This was our first time and we will definitely be back.

Thai bistro is bar none the best Thai restraint around. Great spices and a talented chef combine to make ordinary dishes at other Thai restaurants into extraordinary here at Thai bistro. I recommend Gao Pao Guy, Beef Panang Curry, Pod Prik King, and Whiskey Beef. Enjoy!

This place is okay. Prices are sort of expensive compared to other areas... and the food isn't all that great. The food is okay, but I rather go to a place that is cheaper and better, like La Thai.

I live right down the street yet I had never ordered from them until today. We had beef and chicken drunken noodles along with spring rolls, my husband and I both enjoyed it very much and we will be going back. A little pricier then some but all in all not bad

Established place. Had lunch there today. Shrimp roll appetizer and crispy fried fish. Great taste and consistent since 1995! Fast service and lovely hostess.

  • Gary A.

This is a tweener, 2-3 rating. It's an established place, that needs updating in appearance and maybe the menu selection, for a Thai place I felt it had a limited menu. The greatest hits, but not much variety or speciality - maybe they set the standard for thai places and other restaurants have adapted and add to the menu selection. The food was ok, my lime was a little old. I went with medium spice, and it wasn't, but its easier to add than subtract spice. As others have noted, it was a little pricey, even for lunch, over $25, for 2 lunch entries and a coke.

Literally just left this establishment. I ordered their curry noodle dish with chicken for lunch, what I got? Was a plate full of chunks of white onion! Took one taste and left. Paid the cashier / owner and walked out. Absolutely AWFUL food. This dish should have been called PLATE of onions. The owner knew I was upset but was WAY too busy talking to a former employee to address my concerns. I just tossed $10.05 down the drain. Waitress was indifferent as well. Her comment was "she serves this a lot!" I should have responded, do they come back? Onions should be used for taste not as the main ingredient! If they are used as the main ingredient, say that on your menu! Disgusting!

One of my favorite Thai places, I first tried them in the mid to late 90's. My favorites over the years have been the massaman curry with beef, green curry with chicken, the chicken Thai fried rice, and the jungle curry they used to have on the menu but haven't offered for a few years now. I also like their spring rolls and often order them with peanut sauce to dip them in (try it, you might be surprised how good it is). I just recently had the Thai fried rice, which has some sweet bits of tomato mixed in as well as cucumber slices and a lemon to squeeze on top. It has a real nice flavor combination. The only real downfall is how expensive everything is, though I'd rather pay more for the quality to not go down. Keep up the business and don't skimp, Thai Bistro.

This is my 2nd review of Thai Bistro, this time on the other end of the spectrum. I must of had alot of excess money when I went there last time or something... I ordered a carryout which consisted of 3 Spring Rolls, Vegetable Fried Rice and my favorite, Stir fried baby corn with Chicken. Ready for the total?? $29.63... $29.63?!?!?!??!?! That is utterly ridiculous!!! I looked at the cashier and said, "excuse me?" I thought for a moment I didn't hear her correctly. Well, that's what it was.... OUCH!! It was prime time Monday night for dinner and 2 tables were taken. Maybe that's a sign... I got the food home, Thank God my wife didn't want anything or it would of been over $40. LOL The spring rolls were cold, and didn't have any crunch to them... I was bummed. The vegetable fried rice had no taste, I ordered it mild, but come on now!! The only thing that tasted great was the Stir Fried Baby Corn with Chicken, which I got spiced to HOT. It was fresh and had a great taste. However, the portion was quite small and barely enough for dinner. Ugh!!! Needless to say, my eyes are open now, and I won't be back any time soon... I was very disappointed and felt like I had been robbed! :(

We should have been suspicious when we entered and there were no asian people working or eating there. The food was horrible and tasted straight out of a box. My husband and I almost took ipecac afterwards and definitely considered a 10 mile run. The food was not authentic Thai. It didn't taste good. and WAY overpriced. Go to Thai Thai instead.

My wife and I had gone to Thai Bistro quite a number of times when moving to the Canton area. At first, service was prompt and courteous. However, in the past couple month this place has just dropped the ball. The last two times we placed a take out order they had told me there was a hour wait. At this very moment we placed another order being told the wait would be 30 minutes. We placed this order on our way to the restaurant and decided to wait there for the food. When entering the restaurant, we were handled in a RUDE and CONDESCENDING manner by the hostess. When she asked us who we were she told us that she had clearly said the wait was 30 minutes. Have they never heard of someone being early? We were fine to wait but now they have just turned us off completely. This place is rude, condescending and NOT TIMELY. We will NEVER be returning to Thai Bistro again. They have dropped the ball too many times!

This is a favorite of ours. Love the crispy tofu appetizer. The cucumber and sauce are perfect. I like the thai barbecue chicken and sweet and dour chicken. Very efficient wait staff and the cherry rice dessert is great finish.

My family and I have been going to Thai Bistro ever since the place opened in the 90's. I remember when it first opened we would go several times a week! While we don't go as much, Thai Bistro appears more often in our house than pizza! Dining here is enjoyable as well. The space isn't large and hasn't changed much since opening, but everything is very clean and free of wear and tear. Even as an adult I am still amused by the fish tank near the front window! Now back to the food, I get the same thing here every time, Pad Thai with chicken. I have tasted other Pad Thai from other places and nothing comes close. The flavor is always knock out and I eat the entire dish with ease, even if I have leftovers, the pad thai re-heats very well! Besides the Pad Thai and the spring rolls I can't speak much about the other dishes, however that's fine, with so many places in Canton, it's OK if you can find that consistantly great meal that you never get sick of!

  • Nikki C.

I was looking forward to liking this place. Maybe I should have ordered something else, but based on my previous experience with "Pad see-ew" elsewhere, I ordered it here, at Thai Bistro for carry-out. I was disappointed in the type of noodle used. It was a fat, egg noodle. While I love the taste of the sweet, brown sauce, it was a bit too much and too thick, as I had difficulty figuring out which was chicken and which was noodle. It was a forgettable dish, so I probably wouldn't go back to Thai Bistro.
