Good quality Chinese for both dine-in and take out. The food is not exceptional, but is generally consistent, which is usually what we like for a Chinese takeout place - we know what we are going to get. The food is not particularly greasy, and they have a wide menu selection. The decor and size of the restaurant itself are nicer and larger than other places of this variety.

The place doesn't look like much from the road, but it's nice inside and the food is fantastic! My wife and kids thought that nothing could compare to the trendy PF Changs. Then we stopped here, studied the menu, and found one new favorite dish after another.

We were looking for a decent Chinese restaurant for a very long time after a few places lacked the quality we wanted. This place seems a cut above all the rest. I think out of all of the places I've ordered sesame chicken, this place does it the best. I've never tasted a bolder, stronger sesame chicken in all of my years eating Chinese. Their sweet and sour chicken is also immaculate. The way they fry it is perfect. It's incredibly delicious. I have to say that their egg rolls/spring rolls are pretty disappointing, however. While their crab rangoons are out of this world, and their pork fried rice is just as amazing, their egg rolls are bland and boring. When ordering one, I expected a real fried egg roll, the big thick kind. These are tiny and compressed and not worth eating; the kind you get in the frozen food section of the supermarket. Blech. Their golden fried and peppecorn duck is also questionable. I can't eat either dish without getting nauseous. I don't know why this is, exactly, but it could be the huge sodium content. I mean, wow. Their duck is piled with salt. Be wary if you're watching your sodium intake, or if you have a sensitive stomach. I can't order either of those anymore, despite really loving duck. Still, despite those minor flaws, this place is our go-to for Chinese food. I wish their egg rolls were more authentic, but at least their rangoons are great for a side.

Good food, don't let the exterior fool you! We had the basil chicken which had a ton of really fresh basil and the chicken and broccoli which is much lighter. They were both really good, I was glad I listened to the reviews and tried this place because I had driven by it hundreds of times and not given it a second thought until I read all the great reviews. We carried out so I can't comment on service but the guy at the front was nice! My only complaint is the hot and sour soup wasn't anything special. But everything else we got was awesome!

This place is one of our favorites, the food is consistently fresh and tasty. We usually get the sesame chicken or the happy family, the fried rice and the lo mein noodles are always oily so we tell them to cut down the oil a little bit. It's old-school Chinese and ain't cheap but you pay for the quality that you get out of this establishment. Sometimes it is inconsistent and we have complained before, but they don't listen to your complaints. They just blow you off. It is still our go to restaurant when you're looking for good Chinese .

I had a really good plate of Sesame Chicken for lunch today at Szechuan. The sesame sauce was very sweet on the crispy breaded chicken. The crab rangoons were very good and I could have eaten a barrel full, if allowed! Good portion, VERY fast service, and if I am in the area again - I will be back! My co-worker said she drives a long distance just for this Chinese restaurant.

The fried rice here is highly recommended....comes very close to the consistency of PF changs.

So Liz W. shoots me a message one day saying something to the effect of "Hey Mike, I know you like spicy Chinese food so here's a restaurant you might want to try sometime". Liz by the way is THE Detroit area super reviewer (1000+ reviews) and is one of the most trusted in Detroit. How can I say "No"? It's a cool old school Chinese American restaurant where everyone was really nice and welcoming. The gentleman who waited on me was fast, efficient and made some great recommendations. I ordered my benchmark hot and sour soup which was quite good with a strong pungent aroma and the flavors to match. The Hunan Shrimp lunch combo was really good too. Sze Chuan's was very different from any other restaurant's that I've had with theirs having a little red pepper, spicy black beans, onion and baby corn in it. The flavors were bold and the dish came out spicy, just like I asked for. The lunch portion comes with either an egg roll or a couple crab rangoons. Go for the crab rangoons, trust me on this one. Golden brown with plenty of tasty filling in them. You won't be disappointed. I washed this all down with a couple cold Tsingtao's. The Hunan Shrimp lunch combo, by the way, was priced right at just $8.55. Go there.

I love the food and decor here, it's like going on a vacation in my own backyard. General Suh's Chicken will stomp out your appetite. They have fancy cocktails, as any old school good Chinese restaurant should. I still get the Kiddie Cocktail, because this place reminds me of all of the Chinese places of my youth that are gone now. Only the great ones stay, such as this place or China Star. I love this place, they keep it Rilllllll.

This place is a decent Chinese restaurant. They definitely have a very Chinese theme in their decor. I ordered wonton soup and the beef with hoisin sauce. Everything here seems to be ala carte. I didn't particularly care for the soup. The broth seemed kind of tasteless. I did enjoy the beef, however. It came with a lot of green onions on top. I was expecting just a few. I personally don't like them so I took them off before eating. The beef was tender and sliced thin. The hoisin sauce gave it a great taste along with white rice. A simple meal, but tasty. I've been here on other occasions, but it's been a while. I always remember enjoying what I ordered. This place is definitely worth a try if you like Chinese food.

This has been my favorite Chinese restaurant since I was a child. I love the crab Rangoon. Chicken with broccoli is my go to dish. My dad loves their general tso's chicken. I love everything about this place from the decor to the food. I even love the water glasses. By far the best Chinese food I've ever had and I now live in LA. But whenever I'm visiting Michigan I always stop in for a nice meal here.

This is the oriental restaurant that we use as a guide to rate all others. My husband took me to this restaurant when it was in a space 1/4 the size as the current size. At the time I had never eaten oriental food in a restaurant. My husband ordered us the spicy sze chuan shrimp and the general tsos chicken. You can choose how spicy you want your meal, we order it spicy not hot. When we are back in Michigan we still go to Canton just to eat this meal! They also have the best spring rolls around. We also really liked the Ann Arbor location when it was open. It was our go to lunch place when we lived in Ann Arbor. I so miss the wonton soup, it had a sliced veggie in it that to this day I can not figure out what it was but still am trying to figure it out. I hate giving this a 5 star rating cause it will make the wait to get a table go up, but they deserve it!

Lily is a great waitress! She remembers us from years, even though we come irregularly! The soups are always hearty - the egg drop is good for anyone starting up, but the creamy chicken corn is much better with a extra dollop of spice! Our favorite dish is the spicy diced chicken with bell peppers! Always tender and perfect! Although it is in a simple and unassuming strip mall, the interior is well done and it is well managed. Service is quick and food is always hot and delicious!

Bold flavors. The atmosphere is unique and adds to the experience. The interesting thing on the menu is the Peking duck which requests and 48hour pre-order. Worth the work for the duck. The duck is pretty reasonably priced as well.

I had the General Tso's chicken and it was very good as always. Also had the crab rangoons and those were excellent as well. They keep your water glass filled at all times and the service was very good.

Seriously, from the moment we walked in the door, this place earned it's stars! Totally my fault, but my overtired and hungry toddler was melting down when we arrived. The hostess was not only patient, but talked to him and brought him a fortune cookie to lure him into calmly sitting in his highchair!! Nice! The service was friendly, and the food was fast and hot. We went with chicken fried rice for the kiddo, and the hubs and I split the Taste of Two entrée. The veggies and meat all seemed fresh. Five stars across the board.

I must say that I'm sad to write this review. My reviews are honest and most of them are upbeat. Most of them are positive but I won't lie to you. I used to love this restaurant and we used to get take out Chinese food here about ...10 years ago! it used to be awesome and about the best in the Canton area. But I'm sorry to say that I am only giving them 1 star and an awful review. I'd like to tell you that I'll go back again in a few months and give them another chance and rewrite another review in the hopes of giving a better and more positive review. The other night, my husband and I felt like Chinese take out food. We ordered : Cashew Chicken, 2 egg rolls and Almond boneless chicken. Usually we ask for Vegetable fried rice . We called this Sze Chuan and the man on the phone said that they do NOT swap the vegetable fried rice out instead of the white rice. We had to pay for a whole 3rd meal to get some and it was another $7.00. We ordered and went to get it in just the right amount of time. When we arrived home with the food, I was really excited because from what I remembered of this restaurant, the almond boneless chicken was excellent and it was the only place that actually had "egg rolls" and they were awesome! I even asked the person on the phone if they still had the old kind of egg rolls!?? He said "yes" they were the same! When I got home with the food, I was so disappointed! First off, the egg roll was a small, minute spring roll and it was NOTHING like the old kind of egg rolls with plum sauce that we /I used to love love love!!! It was YUK!! It was soggy with a very bad flavor or lack there of! Ok, well the egg rolls were not the same...OK...no big deal, right?? On to the Almond boneless chicken. It used to be crunchy on the outside and yummy sauce and white meat chicken. Well I don't know what this was??? But it was chicken or so they said, but it was all chewy and soggy and grizzly. It was so disgustingly gross that I spit out my first bite. I became very sad right away because it was not what I remembered it to be nor was it any good at all! So I ditched the egg rolls or now they are spring rolls, they say, even though the manager on the telephone said they were the same as the ones they had 10 years ago! I mean it's not like I expected them to be the same, things change! But I did specifically ask the guy on the phone if they were the same and he said 'YES"...so I took him at his word. Next, I assembled a bit of Cashew chicken and vegetable fried rice (that was an extra 7$, don't forget), along with some Almond boneless chicken, on my plate and sat down to eat. I was so surprised to find that the vegetable fried rice tasted awful and I would compare the taste to something that had mistakenly gotten some kind of soap dropped in it by accident! No...Im not kidding..really! There were some really unrecognizable pieces of what I think was supposed to be soggy chicken or something?? But wait, I had ordered "vegetable fried rice", how did grizzly and just plain awful "chicken" get into it? It was awful tasting and I put it aside as well. Next, I started in eating my almond boneless chicken and It looked pretty good and pretty "normal". It was awful as well! The chicken was hard, grizzly and really chewy and just not like it was supposed to be! The outer coating which is supposed to be fried and crunchy, was really gushy, soggy and not good tasting at all! I next started in on the Cashew nut chicken and believe YOU me, I swear to you, the cashews were soggy and not one bit crunchy! That tells me that they were stale and not fresh cashews! Oh my goodness!! It was just as awful as all of the other food! My husband will eat anything that doesn't walk away! He was really hungry and went ahead and ate his Cashew chicken all soggy cashews and all!! I called the Sze Chuan restaurant and the manager, a male voice answered the phone. I told him that I was unhappy and just what I stated above. I was kind and not rude about it. He just said to me "and what do you want me to do about it?" I said "well, I don't know? What do you think you should do about it?" He was so rude, I would have hung up on him if I hadn't wanted my money back so badly! I told him that I was disabled and could not come back that night, but would bring my receipt tomorrow and he told me that he would "give me another plate of Almond chicken for free next time"!! UMMMM NOOOOO WAY! I told him that there was not going to be a "NEXT TIME" and that I wanted my money back. He told me that we had to bring the food right in right away in order to get the money back. My husband ate his food even though it was terrible and he drove up there and did receive our money back and he gave back the rice and the Almond chicken. The man was so rude to me that I will not be eating there again! Needless to say, I do NOT recommend this restaurant, that I would've recommended several years ago. I used to enjoy this place's food very muc

Visited on 08/11/14.....This was not bad, but far from being good. I ordered the basics fried rice, pan dumplings, and general cho's chicken. The rice was truly some of the best I've had, not over oily and the right amount of soy. The pan fried dumplings, meat didn't taste right, wasn't your traditional dumpling, and the general cho's chicken really missed the mark, it was pretty much fried chicken balls tossed in red sauce. Overall experience was a 3 out of 10.

I got carryout, which took approx. 10 minutes. My meal was delicious! I took other yelpers recommendations and tried the Hunan Shrimp (Slightly Spicy) & a spring roll. I wish I got two spring rolls, that's how good it was. The hunan shrimp was amazing. It came packed in a large carryout container, in my mind I thought I would get 3 shrimp out of it. It definitely exceeded my expectations. The sauce was super tasty & flavorful. It had fresh veggies - broccoli, water chestnuts, mushrooms, baby corn, red pepper. And it was filled with shrimp - not the small baby shrimp, the jumbo type, cooked just right! The only down side is it is a little bit on the oily side the sauce, but nothing to stop me from coming back!

I drive out of my way to eat here and pass 100 other Chinese restaurants along the way. They used to have a location in Ann Arbor that I ate at regularly. I wish they'd open one back up there so I could eat there more! The Fried Dumplings are the best I've ever had and I'm always torn between the Ginger Garlic Pork and the Orange Chicken. Sometimes I just get both and take one home!

Fantastic food every time I go. Tonight my husband and I ordered our staple which is the Crispy Shrimp in Champagne Sauce. This dish is beyond good. The shrimp are slightly crispy ( but not breaded ) and served with a sweet and spicy sauce. We get this dish every time because its phenomenal. We also ordered the Moo Shu Pork for the first time and it won't be the last. Just delicious!!!

This place used to have amazing food however after tonight I will NEVER go back!!! We ordered chicken and broccoli.... There was no broccoli and the chicken was breaded ( this was not stated in the menu). We also ordered Mongolian chicken and it had no flavor! I called and spoke to the manager just to give them feedback and all he could do was offer excuses.... I wasn't expecting anything from him but he at least could have been understanding and have acted like he cared. Bottom line this place has gone down fast! If you like over priced hospital food...then this is the place for you!

First time I went there (today) because I've heard how great the food is - not bad, but I've had better sesame chicken at Wong's Fu Wah in garden city. Their's IS the best! I've had just about everybody's sesame chicken around the Canton, Westland, Plymouth and Inkster areas and nobody can touch them. The service at szechwan's is very good (well pleased :) but the chicken tasted a little burnt. But I wont rule them out for a second try. #fairisfair

This place is the bomb. Ignore the haters. I cannot really comment on the recent service as I haven't eaten in the restaurant in years...usually order takeout. I grew up in the area. I've moved around a little - did a stint in NYC...this is still the best Chinese food I've ever had. The Chicken in Spicy Garlic and Ginger sauce is one of the staples that we order. The General's Chicken is better than anywhere else I've ever had. It's not overly breaded crappy dark meat like it is at most places. I will admit that some of their "diced" chicken dishes do tend to have a rubbery texture The hot and sour soup is the best I've ever had. The spring rolls are awesome. We've been patronizing this restaurant for over 25 years now and don't plan on stopping. If you want overly breaded fried food and those giant doughy egg rolls, then you need to check out some other place. They have lunch specials M-F that are very reasonable.

Sweet and sour chicken was good. I don't like that they won't let you get fried rice instead of white with it. I didn't care for the chicken lo mein. The chicken was so tiny you could barely taste it. My husband really like both meals.

  • Christina K.

Solid Chinese food, this place has been here forever so that definitely says something. It's a great lunch spot since they have the lunch combos that come with soup and spring roll or crab rangoon. I used to order the ginger and garlic chicken but now I've switched over to the home style tofu. Both come in a brown sauce with lots of veggies and Asian mushrooms which I love. Definitely worth a swing by!

This is very good Chinese Food. We love the Crab Rangoon. The first visit we tried some spicy food recommendations which were quite good and today we went with our favorites which were excellent. My favorite Chinese dish is a Chicken & Chinese vegetables entry which they didn't seen to have and/or the waitress couldn't help me find. I went went a Chicken and Vegetable dish which was very good, but not what I really wanted, My wife loves Almond Chicken and it did not disappoint. The dinner meal is served with white rice only and Tea, Egg Rolls and Soup are all extra if you want them. It makes the meal more pricey than the other Chines Food in the area and It is not really any more upscale than the others. My only complaint would be the waitress attitude. The seem a little snippy and always in a hurry and with that not very helpful. I find myself rushing to order from their extensive menu and not always getting what I like. It's good food. but pricey and I can only go 3 stars for now.

I think I found a new family friendly restaurant, with good food, good service and nice decor. My kinda place. The exterior can be deceiving from Ford Road as it resides in a quiet strip mall.... But when you enter you are greeted with warm smiles, nice Chinese music over the speakers and aromas that let you know you are in the right place.... I only ordered a few appetizers but I was pleased with the flavor and service... The prices are a little high for the area but well worth it. Don't sleep on this place like did.

Usually I love this place, but tonight was an absolute disappointment. The service was great, but the food was BLAH and it primarily had to do with the temperature of the food. My hot sour soup was lukewarm, therefore none of the flavors came through. Our chicken fried rice, lukewarm, again affecting the flavor. Our General Tao lukewarm to cool...hence bringing out NO heat, but a tangy vinegar flavor, which ruined the meal. The idea that the main entrees were lukewarm to cool, made me wonder if these dishes are made in large batches and ours was just slightly reheated. I've NEVER had this as an issue. Yes, we could have sent it back, but it had taken quite awhile to get our meal and I assumed they would have just thrown it in the microwave. Our white rice HOT. Our steamed hot dumplings were piping hot and very good.Perfect pork to dough ratio. Sons chicken tenders were piping hot, lightly breaded w/ nice thin pieces of chicken breast. I hope this was just a off night. I will return again in a couple weeks to see if this has become the norm...

It is some of the best Chinese food around. All the food is tender and taste really really good the place is laid out nice with nice decorations. Food is also reasonably priced so you're not overpaying for good food. Definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants in Metro Detroit I definitely recommend it

I have been coming here for 25 years. Moved to Chicago 12 years ago. We NEVER make a trip to Detroit without stopping here. Sometimes on the way in town.. and on he way out. I have never found a better Sesame beef or generals chicken anywhere! Sometimes they get really busy. Its that good. Get a carryout. Still tastes phenomenal at home & reheated the next day:)

This restaurant was reccommended to me by someone I used to work with as a really good Amer.-Chinese place. He was spot-on!! I really like this place, while the menu is a bit narrow in its selection, they execute everything extemely well. I have tried at least a dozen different dishes and have not been disappointed on any of them. I guess the only negatives I would proffer is that the service can be a little uneven due to how busy they are, although my water glass NEVER gets empty ( a plus), and the fact that all but 2 dishes don't have MSG in them and are unwilling to remove it from any of their dishes (my mom cannot have MSG). But this place has some really good food!!

I would consider this the best Chinese in the area (that I've tried). Lunch is a better deal because it includes soup and either a spring roll or two crab rangoons and a scoop of fried or white rice. My favorite dish for a while has been the Baby Shrimp in Szechuan Sauce. Nothing baby about these guys! Sauce is a perfect combination of sweet and spicy. I also like their Sesame Chicken. Ken's fav is the General Tso's chicken, which if you ask nicely and they aren't too busy (not sure when that is because lunch is usually packed) they'll fry the chicken extra crispy. He orders his hot, which is pretty warm for me but nowhere near flamey mouth. Their wonton soup is delicious. Ken prefers the egg drop (blech). Hot and sour is also a good option. Love their rangoons, especially with the dipping sauce provided on the table. Much better than the spring roll. Lunch isn't too bad, at around $6-8 per meal + tip. Dinner is more costly and everything comes a la carte...but this gives me the chance to have their Cold Sesame Noodles, which are awesome.

I come here when I visit family and always enjoy it. The location is located on a very busy street so it can be difficult if you are coming from the side of the street that you turn left to get to the restaurant. Parking does not seem to be an issue though. The restaurant is decorated very nice inside with Asian styling. Always very clean even when busy. Same goes for the restrooms. The food is delicious, can't say enough good things when we come here. Always great portions, good quality of dishes and is piping hot when it comes out of the kitchen. We have ordered many dishes like the pepper steak, beef with broccoli, sesame chicken, pork dumplings, orange chicken, pork in Peking hoisin sauce, wonton soup, etc... Service is very pleasant and fast here. No issues that we have come across. Overall a great Chinese restaurant with friendly and efficient service. We definitely keep coming back for more!

I love this place their food is great, I love the Happy family shrimps, scallops beef and chicken delish!!! The hunan chicken and Ginger chicken are also wonderful. Crab rangoons are also good and I love their cocktail the chinese dragon two of these and feeling good. The service is always good. All in all a great little place.

I went for lunch and tried the Kung Pao Chicken. It came with a Soup, fried rice and a Spring roll. The soup was good but Would have preferred it to have less salt. The spring roll was good. The fried rice is tasteless and moist with sauce. The chicken was soaking in brown sauce and the pieces were small in size. Tasted too salty and the spice level was mild even though I ordered hot. It did not taste like Kung Pao Chicken at other Chinese restaurants. My lunch experience here is not great.

Next stop on the quest for Detroit's best General Tso's was this spot that Joe V. and a few others swear by. I'd had take-out from here years and years ago...we always ordered the Two Tastes In One (Chicken in wine sauce and Beef in Hoisin Sauce with rice) and it was always a perfect choice with a balance of heavy and light flavors. I'd highly recommend it!! But lunch today was about the Tso's and mostly only the Tso's. I ordered it "as hot as they can make it" with some wonton soup and a spring roll. Our server brought out the soup with a bowl of some plumish type sauce for the spring rolls and some tea on the house. The soup had a rich broth with a few pieces of what I'd guess was pork and a couple large wontons with a small amount of meat filling inside. The broth was delicious...the wonton was a little weak but still really good soup....I didn't get to finish it though since she brought out the bomb diggity Tso's so quickly! Onto the entree. The Tso's came out warm, saucy and with loads of Asian peppers mixed into the meat with fried rice and a spring roll on the side. The chicken was a deep red in color with that great wok cooked flavor and I could tell the chicken was crispy from a perfect flash-fry before I even got it into my mouth. It was very lightly breaded and almost perfect!! And that's huge props coming from me. It was better than Wing Hing's but not as good as Szechuan Empire's, at least as I remember it from back in the day. The Empire's was a little sweeter, but this was DAMN good kids!! The spice level was right on point but I would've liked it just a tad hotter....maybe I'll see if they have the hot oil or paste next time I'm jones'n for Szechuan's General's. The fried rice was pretty good and it had a lot of sprouts mixed in...the spring roll was warm and filled with cabbage and sprouts with little baby shrimps added throughout - pretty solid digs. The plum sauce was decent but it needed more vinegar to deliver that flavor punch. So as it goes this place was the sum of all my hopes for some really great Tso's. The bottomline, if you want the good stuff this is the place to go. As I said in the Talk thread, I had a suggestion for Hong Hua on Orchard Lake and I need to check out Szechuan Empire for a current taste of their product before I make the final call but this is legit Tso's for sure and of those I've tasted so far it's #1. One last kudos...our server was totally on it with our water refills and food service was very very fast so finish your soup quickly and get ready to feast.

I cannot even begin to describe how much I love this restaurant! I always get the same dish nowadays but I have been going to this place since I was a little kid. Their wonton soup is to die for! Also, they have the best plum sauce around! Sweet but tangy. My common routine is: wonton soup for a starter, two springs to help out (with plum sauce, of course), and finally some sesame chicken to top it all off. Just as a side note: their lunch prices cannot be beat! 8 dollars for my choice of spring rolls, crab wontons, or an egg roll? Along with your choice of soup and finally your choice of an entree with white or fried rice?? Hell yeah!! This also comes along with some hot tea. All of this for 8 or 9 bucks? I WILL TAKE IT. Keep in mind though that of you're going for dinner that you better be ready to empty your wallet, but this is coming from a poor college kid. Haha.

Caveat: Szechuan is 100% Americanized, non-authentic Chinese Style food...so now that's out of the way, I like it! Faves: Chicken with Ginger/Garlic sauce: Chicken that has been pounded, then stir-fried with cloud-ear mushrooms, water chestnuts, and green onion. The sauce is a heavy, yet tasty, gingery brown sauce, it's comfort-food to me. Yum. Hunan Beef: Sweet-salty from the fermented black beans. Beef was good-quality, lots of broccoli, green onion, and sweet peppers. Kung-Bao Beef: Lots of dried chilies, but very mildly spicy. Tons of peanuts, sauce is quite thick compared to a more traditional/authentic restaurant...husband really liked. Twice-Cooked Pork: Pork slices (or shreds, depending), nappa cabbage, pickled mustard, ginger-garlic sauce, green onion. Mmm, folks who've tried the traditional version (made with pork belly) and found it too rich, may like this better as there is less fat. General's Chicken: One of the best "General's Chick" in the area. Not heavily battered, still quite crisp. Sauce is sweet-sour-salty mildly spicy and garlicky, lots of broccoli. Another comfort-foodie item~ Chicken Lo-Mein: omg, so oily and rather bland...yet strangely eatable. Gah! I wish I didn't like it, but I do. Nooooo, my arteries! Shredded Pork Soup: Classic Szechuan soup, love the pickled turnip/mustard greens. Pork is good quality, the noodles are either wheat noodles or sometimes udon (very rarely udon). Yummy when it's sub-zero out. Is quite salty. We always order food that has the "spicy" option as hot-spicy, but it always comes barely-spicy. Ah well *shrugs* Great for when the "pepper steak Chinese" hankering rears its head. :O)

I can't wait to go back! We orderd Hunan Chicken no spice to go. Loved it! Lots of vegetables and sauce. The chicken was very tender. We miss our place in Ann Arbor since it closed down last year. This place I think might even be better! I am looking forward to going back and sampling the soup, crab rangoons, and fried rice.

Well, here goes... I ordered carryout and after a short 10 minute wait, went home with General Taos Chicken, 2 Spring Rolls and an order of the Pork Fried Dumplings.... My wife introduced me to this place about 2 years ago, and she really likes the place, I on the other hand, just think it's ok, nothing special really... I started out with the PFD, and the outside of them was nicely cooked, but unfortunately, the pork inside was overcooked. I believe they cooked the pork, then put it in the dumpling and did a flash fry to it... The sauce they supply with them was tasty, but I couldn't get past the over done pork. The GTC has great taste, and is in a nice spicy red sauce, but make sure you dump it out to get to the bean sprouts they put on the bottom... I ate 75% of the Chicken and hit the bean sprout level... LOL Needless to say, the last 25% was 20% bean sprouts and 5% chicken... My bad... The spring rolls were ok, nothing to write home about.

I honestly don't understand the appeal of Szechuan. My biggest gripe is the service -- my friends and I came in during a generally sparse time, around 3pm, and although we were seated quite quickly, our waiter hovered around us the entire time and seemed to be waiting for us to leave. It was, honestly, rather uncomfortable, and I suppose it darkens my experience quite a bit. The food was nothing special; prices are reasonable, but not quite stunning. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken lunch special, and it was, as Chinese food chicken generally is, covered in vaguely MSG-tasting goopy question mark sauce. I have to say I won't be coming back -- maybe I just experienced an off day for Szechuan, but I wasn't at all impressed.

Probably the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Excellent orange chicken (aka, chicken with spicy orange flavor) Also excellent crab ragoons.

I felt my entire lunch experience here was just OK. I'm an egg roll fan, and get pretty irritated when they aren't on the menu, as is the case here. My wonton soup was cold, and Sesame Chicken was super sweet. Dave liked his General's Chicken a lot more than I liked my meal. I'd go back if someone insisted on it, but wouldn't try it again on my own.

My family and I eat here several times a year. The food is always very good. We have had the fried rice, almond chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and crispy shrimp. The crispy shrimp is one of our favorites. The shrimp is stir fried, and the sauce is sweet and hot. Delicious! We usually get carry out but when we have eaten in the dining room the service is very good. It's the best Chinese food around.

In order to help keep others from making the same mistake I did, I am writing this review. I discovered this gem of a restaurant with one week left in Michigan! What a shame. The lunch prices are phenomenal! I paid $8 including tax for my lunch. Hot tea was included with the lunch to start and the restaurant was nice with very friendly staff. A rose in a little vase on each table, and very clean, well-lit dining area. I got the Kung Pao chicken and made it spicy. I had a choice of soup, between fried or white rice, and between crab ragoons or an egg roll. I picked hot and sour soup, fried rice, and a crab ragoons. The soup came first and was one of the best hot and sour soups I have had. In perfect timing, the meal came, and although she gave me an egg roll by accident, I did not care because I was so hungry and it was very good. The chicken was very good quality meat without any pieces of fat, and the fried rice was the best I have ever had. This experience was wonderful, and the waitstaff was very attentive to everyone in the room. I wish I had found this restaurant sooner! Here is the actual website with their menu: szechuanmichigan.com .

I only have eaten here 1 time. It was really good. No complaints. I had take out so I can't comment on service - but the inside seemed pleasant. Staff was great with my order. There was nothing out of the ordinary or bad about my visit. I just haven't been in the area enough recently to truck over there on a frequent basis.

As a recovering Chinese food snob, I usually shun the deep fried, sugar soy infused, MSG laced americanized stuff dished out all over the city. Szechuan had some canton street cred, being the preferred carryout place for the neighborhood, so I had some hopes for some americanized satisfaction. Well, Szechuan does bring some decent flavors and generous portions to the game, using plentiful amounts of spice such as actual spiced orange peel in the "orange" dishes. My problem with the food is the sheer amount of oil used to cook (and left in) the food is borderline obscene. Kinda like pouring a quarter cup of fry oil over your fried chicken, and then eating it with white rice and 10 sugar packets... Anyway, we'd enjoy the food more if they could show some restraint. The one relatively authentic dish was the seafood soup, which thankfully, was light and delicate and maybe even healthy... Anyway, I can understand why people like this place, just make sure you check with your doctor before you go.

Tastes like rubber...was funny because the only other table that was there complained about it first saying the EXACT same thing. Go to Canton China if you want to stay in the area. Go to China Cafe in novi if you want GREAT Chinese. Awesome, friendly owners/staff. Amazing food

First Impression: From the street this place doesn't really look like much. The outside of the building could use a face lift and that is what had put me off from trying it for years. For whatever reason I am always fearful that I am going to die of food poisoning because the buildings landscape looks older. Once I walked into the door and the wonderful smells filled my nose all that fear went out the window. The inside itself is clean, warm, and inviting. Food: For my lunch I ordered Wonton soup and Garlic Beef in a House Hoisin sauce. The soup was as good as any Wonton I have tried and my only complaint is the portion size was too small. That isn't a knock, it was really good and I love Wonton soup! My beef came out next with a delicious and generous portion of white rice. Let me stop for a moment and mention the rice. What really makes or brakes a meal for me is the rice. You can have the best tasting food in the world, but if your rice sucks your taking something away. The meal portion was huge and I had enough food to take home with me. The only thing that about the beef dish is that thought it was a bit on the salty side. Nothing too overpowering, but the flavor was so good I didn't think it needed to be so salty. Service: What really impressed me was the level of service. The waitstaff is very experienced, friendly, and attentive. I really like it when you ask for a take out box and instead of just flopping the boxes down on the table and running away, they actually box up your meal for you. A note too servers world round, this is how you earn your above average tips! Final thoughts: I am a loyal fan of New Peking Chinese restaurant in Garden City and have been for years. I will not switch sides and make Szechuan my main place when I get a craving for Ameri-Chinese food. However, if I am in the area I will defiantly come back. Give this place a try!

I had also heard rave reviews about this restaurant before I ever had anything here. My brother's company used to get carry-out once a week because they all loved it. Several of them recommend the garlic ginger chicken (although they all order it without the mushrooms). I thought it was okay. I'm usually a big fan of simple stuff - fried rice, soup and spring rolls. I've tried a couple other dishes here, but almost everything (including the fried rice) has big pieces of onion. Big enough to pick out, but a lot of them, which annoyed me. The last couple of times I've just gone with some soup and a few spring rolls. The service has always been very good here. The staff is prompt, helpful and eager to please. Be careful in the parking lot - the spaces and aisles are a little bit tight. My brother had his car backed into by someone who couldn't get out of her spot.

Me and my wife have eaten Chinese everywhere. NY, San Francisco China Town, Chicago's China Town, etc. Szechuan has the best Hot & Sour soup hands down. We always go there for lunch, a spectacular bargain. The Twice Cooked Pork is excellent. We've always enjoyed good service. Been going there for maybe twenty + years. Best lunch deal around. Ask for Linda. She's great.

We went here for dinner while driving on Ford road in Canton and wondering what we were in the mood for. From the road it didn't look like much, but we figured we would give it a try. The strip mall it is in does not look like much, but looks can be deceiving! When we went inside the restaurant it was pretty busy, we arrived around 7:15 on a Friday evening. Even though the place was packed, we got a seat right away, and service was quite prompt. The menu offered a ton of variety, we had a difficult time deciding what to order. We ended up getting 2 dishes and splitting them. The food was well prepared. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I have had better. We will be going back here again for dinner though!

I've been living in Canton for a few months now and I've tried various chinese food places in the area. I saw this particular restaurant online at Yelp and another website which rated the best restaurants in the Detroit area. It didn't win first place, but it had hundreds of comments...many people advising on their favorite dishes. I was amazed how many people said that the General Tso's chicken was the best they ever tried. I've eaten ate tons of chinese food places and I've never been particularly impressed by General Tso's. It always tasted too sweet and after eating a little I would get sick of it. So, needless to say I was a little reluctant to try this place. I finally mustered up the nerve to...and OMG, I was totally in shock. Is this what General Tso's is supposed to taste like?! A wonderful combination of sweet sauce with a slight taste of ginger and spice. Great tasting and easily the best General Tso's I ever had. Since my first visit here, I've actually been back...and the General Tso's was just as marvelous. I also tried the Beef and Broccoli which was very fresh and tasty. Check this place out, you won't be dissatisfied. I think I found my Chinese food home.

I have read some of the reviews and I feel like I eat at a restaurant that exists in a parallel world with the Szechuan Rest. everyone else reviewed. Or maybe people rate the amount of food they get on the plate and not the quality or service. Might be an American thing to do, I don't know... If that's the case I got lunch, dinner, and tomorrow's lunch. I was craving Chinese and pretty much all the restaurants in the area were closed, being the day after Christmas and all. So my friend reluctantly suggested that we try this place. We were seated promptly and right after I placed my order I had a feeling that this is not going to be a decent dining experience... Our waiter was making faces when I asked her if it's possible to get my food without MSG... She said it's not possible. Well, this was a first! Had I been by myself I probably would have been out right at that moment. Anyhow, I got the eggplant tofu dish, my friend got the chicken version of the same dish and sweet and sour chicken for her 8 yo son. The food was ok, a little too greasy but spiced right. Now, I am pretty sure that's common sense to get the credit card receipt/tip after the guests have left... not our waiter. She came took the receipts, checked the tip and... I'm not kidding you, she took my friend's copy (the customer copy), looked at it, crushed it and threw it back on the table in front of her! WTH? Before I left I told the guy at the entrance that the food was ok but the service was horrible.... He did NOT care one bit! My fault, should've talked to the manager not to some random employee. Will I ever come back? Don't think so. Editing this because today while I was eating the leftovers I found a hair in my food. I called the manager, which turned out to be the gentleman I spoke to yesterday. This time he apologized profoundly. Anyhow, I hope you guys have a better experience at Szechuan...

My dad has been obsessed with this place about as long as I have been alive. I haven' been in a couple years since I moved out of the area, but was delighted to have some for the millionth time this past weekend when I was in town. The service is always super efficient & sweet, they have excellent lunch specials (as the others have mentioned). I do agree that some of the dishes are a little on the salty side, but I still think it's one of the best places to get Szechuan in Metro Detroit. The white rice is nice & sticky like it should be. I also don't eat meat & they will substitute tofu for you in the dishes if you ask. Only bummer about no meat is all the soups are in chicken stock, so no soup for you veggies. My favorite dishes to get are any of the ones with nuts (cashews or peanuts with various sauces with my tofu). Give this place a spin. Not much to look at outside, but yummy goodness inside!

Ew GROSS!! So greasy. I was craving Chinese food and I've heard people rave about this place. I hadn't been here in years (since my boys were babies... i recall they didn't have any high chairs at all back then so we had to eat with our babies on our laps; that's why I hadn't been there in 14 years. Anyway...) The vegetable spring rolls were greasy inside and out. And the homemade plum sauce it is "served with" apparently is only if you request it, or so I was told rudely when I called back to inquire. My chicken fried rice was tasteless, the chicken was dry and tasted boiled. It was so greasy, I could feel myself getting sick as I ate it. I threw away over 3/4 of it. Hubby & I spent over $25 on two items for take-out plus the spring rolls. What a waste!! His General Tso's was dry (boiled?) chicken with hot sauce poured over it. Nasty.

This has long been my absolute favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. It is not cheap at dinner and there are no great coupons but I recommend it anyway. That should tell you something right there. This restaurant is so good we actually drag the food down to St. Louis whenever we see my sister, she misses it that much. I always get a pan fried dumpling appetizer here. The pork filled dumplings are always perfectly cooked and the filling is just so good. I ask for some hot chili oil to spice up the dark brown sauce with scallions that goes with them. It could easily be your whole meal but I share them. The Wrapped Spicy Chicken is like a chicken dumpling minus the skin, unwrap the foil and eat it like a dumpling, delicious. The Cold Noodles in Spicy Sesame Sauce are a cheap lunch at 4 dollars. I adore their peanut tasting sauce and the crunch of the veggie accents. Lunch is a pretty good deal in here and are plenty to fill you up. Their soups are excellent, I recommend any but have a special fondness for the Wonton. My mother is a sucker for the Hot and Sour though, while my sister swears by the Egg Drop. The lunches come with your choice of fried or steamed rice, My sister and I stick with steamed but the fried is loved by the rest of my family. You also can have Crab Rangoons or a Spring Roll, both are good but I always take a Spring Roll. The Baby Shrimp in Spicy Szechuan Sauce is amazing. So tender and flavorful, I love how spicy they can make it too. The Hunan Chicken is perfect, I love all the veggies in it. The General Tsou Chicken is the very best I have ever had and worth going off a diet for. The coating so very light and the sauce a sticky spicy delight. It is served on bean sprouts which are happy. The Sesame Chicken is a fave of my dad, it is very good indeed, again not too much breading, just a lightly coated fry job. The Beef in Garlic and Ginger Sauce is fabulous, tender and just the right flavor, if you want spicy you need to ask for it extra spicy, as beef doesn't take spice as easily as shrimp or chicken. Medium is the minimum spice I order but I prefer Hot or Extra Hot on almost all these items. At dinner a must is the Crispy Shrimp in Champagne Sauce. So lightly fried in an amazing tempura type batter and the sauce is to die for. Get it spiced Hot for a treat. As far as veg, I have had the Home Style Tofu with a friend and found it quite tasty. I am waiting to go back with her to try the Sesame or Kung Pao Tofu which both sound yummy. The Ginger Garlic Eggplant was delicious so I am sure the broccoli would be just as tasty. The Moo Shu Vegetables were fun and different. There are some fun veg choices here which I like, especially as a lot of the entrees are not full of veggies. They redid the restaurant about a year ago and the interior is quite nice and soothing. Servers are great, efficient and accommodating. The owner is a peach who of course remembers a girl who gets six dinners to go on an airplane on a fairly regular basis. The tea is always piping hot and the water glasses are refilled regularly. If you like good and spicy Chinese food you will like it here. I love it and pay full price happily, although I do usually come for lunch unless I am wanting to splurge.

Hot and sour soup had a metallic taste. Spring roll was greasy, and the frying oil should have been changed a while ago, fried rice was like rice a roni and Mongolian beef was tough and greasy. My first and last visit.

I came here for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend. I was excited because I haven't been there in a while! First, dinner didn't even come with soup or hot tea. Everything is separate. Waitress was rude and my shrimp was bland and tasted old. I'm super disappointed. I ended up having my food sent back. Pretty crappy birthday dinner.

The atmosphere was decent. My family and I went here recently and we're not impressed with the meal and especially the service. Every African American person was seated behind the wall panel, which we found interesting. Secondly, the waitress was clearly more friendly to those who were not Black. These are comments I would never write unless the actions are clearly visible. Regarding the food, very salty, not much flavor, but huge portions. Meh.

Absolutely my favorite Chinese place. I've been coming here got neatly thirty years. The food is always flavorful and fresh. My personal favorites are the Garlic Chicken, General Tsao's Chicken and Sesame Beef. I also like the Twice cooked Pork. The only entree I've ever had that disappointed me over all these years was the Almond Chicken. Not sure Cantonese is their strong suit. My husband loves the Crispy Shrimp, though he wants me to add that the broccoli is usually cold. The staff is very friendly and the service is always great.

The absolute best Chinese food I have had in a long time! Can't comment on authenticity, but if you like the traditional Americanized Chinese food then this is the place to go. The almond chicken is wonderful. Egg drop soup is great! We drive nearly 35 minutes to get this stuff! Highly recommend!

The best Chinese food around! I live in Royal Oak and this place is worth the drive every time! The General Tsou's Chicken is a can't miss and the pork dumplings are some of the best I have ever had. For all you bad reviewers: Thank you! Less of a wait when I go!

I have been coming here for about 8 years and I have always chosen the Tai Chien Chicken (hot) and it is my absolute favorite meal ever. If I had to choose my last meal on earth it would be that. Their cold sesame noodles are a greet appetizer packed with so much flavor. And, like a few other reviewers wrote, their hot & sour soup is on point. I cannot express my love for this place (although I can't speak on any other dish aside from the Tai Chien Chicken) enough to do it justice. If you haven't gone, you must! And get the Tai Chien Chicken.

I've lived in China before and I found this food to be closer in authenticity than any other Chinese restaurant around here. (There are some REALLY awful places out there...) I was completely satisfied with my 'mapo tofu' and 'san pei ji' (basil chicken). I will definitely come back and try other dishes on the menu. The only disappointing thing was our server was a little impatient, especially when my husband was trying to make up his mind about what to order to drink. I thought she was going to bark at him to hurry it up. In the end, I am glad I went here.

Just visited Szechuan for the second time. The restaurant is beautiful inside, and all of the tables were full by the time we left (Thursday night about 7:30). Pork Dumplings- delicous! Perfectly cooked. Hot & Sour Soup- very good Chili Pepper Trio- beef, chicken, and shrimp with veggies in a chili pepper sauce. I ordered medium hot spiciness; it was just right. Orange Chicken- my husband ordered it full strength spiciness; he really enjoyed it, and did not find it too spicy at all. Our service was very fast and efficient. We will definitely come again.

We like spice. The first thing we had at this place was approaching perfect food. The Hunan shrimp was in a sauce that should not be tampered with, because it is perfect. We told them so. The green beans are wonderful. We order them as spicy as they come. They are prepared fresh in the restaurant and are perfect. There aren't many restaurants where I can think of one or two dishes that are perfect, but these two are!!! Service is excellent. The people are courteous. The prices are reasonable. But please don't go the same night as us because we don't like to wait!

By far the best chinese restaurant I've ever been, and the one I compare all others too. Appetizer: Crab rangoon ... you can actually taste the crab in it. Great flavor. Main dishes: General's, Cashew Chicken are two staples that I always get and are consistently great each time. There is another that we get with wraps and hoisin sauce that is just as good as well. Great choice for dinner.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
