National Coney Island Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I am not sure what the expectation is for some of the prior reviews, however it's a Coney Island( not the 4 seasons). So with that in mind, your not going to find a better coney anywhere in Canton. Gyro was good(hint-get onions sautéed), and fries are fries. We walked in, ordered, and ate-not a hard concept. These 17 page "thesis" on how the middle tine on my fork was 1/32 out of square, are redic(or in this case redick)

The food was obviously frozen and out of a box. The staff was decent but I came for the food, not the service. I don't this will change any time soon since it is a chain restaurant.

I wanted to give National Coney Island at least three starts, but I just couldn't, for one main reason. The kitchen manager! (or whatever you call his title). The kitchen is literally a "Hell's Kitchen!" Here's why... I have been to this location three times, and all three times I've sat at the counter on a Saturday morning and ordered breakfast. The food was properly cooked, the service was great, and my coffee cup was always full. That said, NONE of that could possibly overcome the kitchen manager, who on Saturday's just screams at those working in the kitchen. He's demoralizing, and I can't stand hearing it. In fact, if you're seating any where within the booths adjacent to the counter, or just beyond, you can't help but here this guy. He yelled at one of the servers because she didn't take the toast out to a customer quickly enough, he yelled at several ladies because they didn't carry the food properly (I've never worked in a restaurant, but I'm always amazed at how the servers can carry that many plates of scoring hot food and deliver it with a smile). He yelled constantly at the people actually preparing the food, for one thing or another. Just sheer yelling and intimidation. You can just see the look of demoralization on their faces, and the ladies behind the counter give each other those looks like "i got your back because we need each other to deal with him." I felt like I wanted to talk to someone higher up at National Coney Island, but figured this was a good place to start. I guess if the right people care, they'll be reading Yelp reviews....including mine. While I enjoy the counter banter, and talking with the servers, I can't say for sure if I'll ever go back. I hope the kitchen manager can discover a measure of self-awareness of how off-putting he really is.

I don't know what it is but this place is lacking something. It's a traditional coney island but it doesn't seem as good. Possibly because it's being compared to the original in Detroit. Food was ok. Servers were pleasant.

Despite the bad reviews, wanted to give this Canton eatery a try. I came for breakfast. They don't have a huge breakfast menu (primarily eggs and omlettes), but they also have biscuits and gravy, which is what I wanted. The biscuits and gravy were ok. They weren't the best I had, but they weren't the worst. I had a full serving which included two biscuits and a bowl of sausage gravy. Thankfully they offered Franks hot sauce, which is my preffered condiment for biscuits and gravy... The hot chocolate was ok. I thought it could have been more chocolatey... The ambiance was really cool! Modern. Much different than a lot of other coney island restaurants. The service was really what set it aside! I wish I could recall the name of the waitress I had but she was a sweetheart! I would definetly come back for lunch or dinner!

Again food outstanding and the cleanliness is second to no one in Canton. My server, Nancy, very pleasant and talked me into one of my Coney Perks to take home and have later in the day. So I get breakfast and then free protein to make chicken wraps at home for lunch later today. Nice of her to make that suggestion.

Seems like I had a better experience here than most. Came in here for the first time on Saturday. It was my first trip to any National Coney Island establishment. We were seated promptly and our waitress was very friendly...a little kooky, but friendly nonetheless. I ordered a burger - it's called somebody's favorite or something. Don't remember the name. I thought it was a solid burger. The chicken lemon rice soup that I got as a side was also good. Sometimes I find chicken lemon rice to be too thick or too lemon-y, but this seemed to be just how I like it. My girlfriend ordered the Honi or whatever it's called. I got to try it and thought it was delicious. The bread on that thing is amazing. Place was very clean. Reasonably priced. I thought the quality of the food and service was good. Doesn't seem like I'm going to have much company with other Yelpers, but I'm not going to say "No" if someone wants to go back to this place.

I am shocked at all of the bad reviews! My husband and I frequented this place because of the great customer service and the awesome omelettes.

I have been to this Coney Island twice now and as far as I'm concerned, I believe two is plenty. The first time I visited this establishment was around the time it first opened. I ordered some scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and wheat toast. Nothing to complicated. The eggs were cold, bland, and tasteless. Furthermore, the cheese tasted like fake. It literally tasted like plastic. I sent them back and asked for eggs with a different type of cheese (swiss). They were so much better! The second visit I had was last night. I ordered a half order of pancakes and two eggs any style (egg whites) with a side of sausage, wheat toast, and hashbrowns (which came with it but I didn't want them). The eggs were cold, but didn't taste awful. The pancakes were well done. The hashbrowns were soaked in oil. Bleck! The sausage was obviously frozen and then thrown on a grill to be warmed up, yuck! The part that really irked me was the hair that I found on my wheat toast soaked in butter. EW EW EW!! At that point I had enough and just wanted to leave. Needless to say, I won't be back. The menu is very small for a coney, and everything is an upcharge. The main point being that the quality of food here is clearly lacking. No thanks. I know plenty other coney's that have much higher quality of food. It still seems as though Leo's on Ann Arbor Rd is the one for me!!

Meh. Not interesting. Small menu. Not much for my husband who is not into coneys, coney chili or gyros to pick from. Yeah Hanis are not going to make him do cartwheels. Portions are not to his expectations, given all the other local Coney places we haunt have huge portions comparatively. I see we are not alone in noticing the difference. By the way, I love the guy who is critiquing other people's reviews. No I do not expect gourmet at a Coney place. I do compare to places like the Leo's on A2 Road in Plymouth and the L. George on Michigan Ave in Canton though and ummmm yeah not impressed. Those two joints have similar pricing but way more choices and world's better food. So go ahead and rip me a new one buddy, I say it like I see it, I really don't care if anyone else agrees. It looks nice inside. The people were friendly. Our service was not terrible despite it being slow, they did at least keep us in drinks and were apologetic. The food was crappy to just ok though. My gyro had a really off taste that I could not figure out, was it off sauce or odd spice on the meat? Sorry. In the end I figured it really didn't matter because I wouldn't be back at any rate.

The service was great and the staff super friendly That said it does not make up for the Hospital Grade Food that they serve at this restaurant. This place could be a winner if they could figure out how to cook.

There's only one reason I go here and it's for the coney chili. Yum! Honestly aside from that I don't have much else to add. The food is not great. Below average actually. I've tried a few different menu options and they are never impressive. Especially in comparison to other local coney/diner spots. The menu is very small also. The place is clean and service is decent. The interior has a fun feel to it but they really need to step up their game with the menu if they want to be around for a while....they have some stiff competition! I will still come here when I'm in the mood for coney chili and don't feel like driving to Detroit but other than that the place is forgettable.

High prices and stingy portion sizes. I ordered a coney and they wanted $2.19 for it. The onion ring order was about half the size of other places for about the same price. My grilled "cheese" sandwich was not much more than toasted bread with barely one slice of cheese in the middle. Go to Leo's or Kerby's instead. You will get more food for less money.

We weren't happy with the way our food came out. My husband ordered coneys and fries and the coneys came out, but they said he had to wait for his fries. He had finished one coney dog before they came out. I had ordered a breakfast platter, three eggs over medium, bacon, ham, hash browns, and toast. My food came out, but they said I had to wait for toast. Who serves eggs with no toast and doesn't toast take like a minute to make? So we are waiting for they rest of our food, which was nice and hot when we got it, but now my eggs are getting cold waiting for the toast! My husband asked the waitress and she says she had to ask the cook three times for toast, because he kept forgetting to make it! So I do not recommend going there, unless you have a lot of time to waste!

Tried calling in an order and was put on hold for 5 minutes. Hung up and called right back and they were ready to take my order. WTH? When I went to pick up my food, they gave me a $2 off my next order coupon for my inconvenience. Don't have small hanis, and they got my order wrong. I'll wait til they got the kinks worked out before,I come back.

I have experienced National Coney Island in Canton twice now, once for lunch and one for breakfast. I'm not sure how to rate it since one meal was much better than the other. Let's start with lunch, I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Hani with bleu cheese. What I got was a BBQ chicken Hani with bleu cheese. It was fine I asked for some buffalo sauce on the side when I couldn't seem to locate any in the sandwich...even the amount of BBQ sauce was questionable. That is when our server realized something went wrong between my order and the kitchen. No problem did I want another? I'm fine with just slapping some sauce on the who I have since my fellow diner was already served. It was fine, in fact it created a funky new combo that I would consider getting again, if I could figure out how to order it that way. We split an order of waffle fries with chili cheese, not bad. My aunt had a burger, she had no complaints. Lunch was a good experience. Breakfast is another story. Sunday morning after mass we all truck out together to have breakfast. we thought "Great a new place to try!" and I had had a nice experience for lunch, so why not? Well, we had no problem getting a table for five. But the menu was lacking a bit compared to other coneys. Not a lot of specials or omelettes, and prices quite a bit higher than other local places for the same breakfast. I had the two eggs with Dearborn Ham and extra crispy hashbrowns. It was ok, but not the best, the star was the ham. The problem is that for less money you can get a better breakfast at Plato's or Leo's or just about anywhere. The decor is nice, and the service was fine too, it just really lacked in food quality and value for breakfast. I would go back for lunch, but we won't be back in for breakfast.

First time in this newly opened National Coney Island. The location was a former Big Boy restaurant and has been totally redone. I believe they replaced everything but the structural walls and the roof. The decor is striking for a Coney Island and could easily be a world world class restaurant. That being said, I was not overly impressed with our breakfast. I had the big breakfast that comes with 3 eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, hash browns and toast. My breakfast was pretty good. The eggs were a little burnt around the edges and the breakfast was a little sparse on hash browns, but with an order of Biscuits and gravy, it did the trick. The wife's breakfast was another story. Her bacon was barely cooked and her eggs were overcooked. However, she did get a large portion of hash browns! The waitress was very accommodating and friendly and helped us get a proper breakfast. I'm more than a little disappointed in this new location, but I've been to a lot of National Coney Island's and have always had excellent food. So I'm sure this is just a temporary situation. I can go 3 stars for now, but I'll be back...

Went with friends for dinner. Some people got the gyros, others got breakfast. Food tasted good and the service was very good.

Got enticed to visit the new National Coney Island here in Canton on Ford Road with a coupon we got in the mail. I've been to the National on the east side, in Troy, and in Royal Oak, so I'm not un-familiar with the offerings. My companion and I came on Sunday morning and it was busy, but we just caught them with someone leaving, so we did not wait more than 2 minutes. I had the make your own omelet and it was decent- good eggs, enough bacon and sausage to taste it, but not too much meat. My hash browns were good and well done just like I requested. My companion's hamburger was mediocre at best, and the sourdough bread instead of the bun was lackluster. The chilli cheese fries were just like i remembered them though, so that was a plus. The decor is much more modern than the older National's around the metro area, so that's a plus, but this is also one of those that isn't 24 hours, so that's a minus, as Canton does lack solid choices for the after 2AM crowd. Not that Taco Bell and White Castle aren't good for that, but literally every single coney on Ford Road in Canton closes at a 10 or 11PM on weekends... if even one of them stayed open all night, i'm sure they would get plenty of late night visitiors. Service was good, our server did give us a frequent diner card for repeat visits. As for kitchen issues, I didn't notice any as all our food was well-executed and tasted fine. Would we come here again? Maybe... but there's plenty of other choices for food in this area, so maybe we won't.

You ever give a server a 30 percent tip? Well I did because nobody else is going to tip her. Mediocre food and even worse service. The greeter sat us in a far corner. I asked if I was at the punishment table. Little did I know it was my destiny. Just drive by and don't stop.

I was really excited for this place to open, but have to admit it was sub-par. The food was actually a bit expensive for a coney place and not prepared that well. I went there with my two kids during a break in our Christmas shopping routine. The plus side was that the place seemed clean and the wait staff was nice, but honestly for coney food I'll just hit the local coney place and save a couple of bucks.

Our meal here was absolute garbage. The waitress cared but no talent in the kitchen. I would give them a pass because it had just opened but it was so below what I would expect.

I really wish I could give zero stars. NEVER go here. The manager working,Jermaine, was basically the worst human I've ever came in contact with. He was EXTREMELY rude and even more unprofessional. He had no idea how to work the computer system and basically was refusing to help his employees and was talking down to them for his own lack of knowledge..... He also was trying to blame the problem on me when it was clearly the fact that nobody knew how to work anything since the issue was resolved when a different waitress who was more experienced came in. He was a terrible authority figure and if anyone looks up to them with respect we should be greatly worried for them because they will be awful people. I will never return here and will tell every single person I know never to go back as well which will be a pretty big impact seeing as we were the only people in there at peak lunch hour. LEOS FOR LIFE.

The first thing I noticed is that the menu at this location is much smaller than the National Coney Island menu that I'm used to. Some of my top choices like the vegetarian pita and the lite bite plate are not on this menu. The second thing I noticed is that they keep the temperature extremely freezing in here. I ordered soup just to keep warm. The restaurant is clean with a cute 50's diner feel. It's lunch hour on a Friday and it's really empty in here, which we thought was odd. The staff are friendly and food came out pretty fast. I got a tuna melt, and my husband got the turkey melt, which were both good but we've had better.

Stopped in for a quick dinner with the wife, and was quite disappointed overall. I've eaten at National in Royal Oak before so I knew what to expect with the menu. The food however left a lot to be desired. The Hani was delivered with a big hole in the pita and the chicken was undercooked. I'll give them one more shot in a few weeks to see if they have the kinks worked out.

Even for a new resturant with new staff. If I forgive the service issues, I can't forgive the poorly cooked, low quality food. Also the portion size is small for price. Do your self a favor skip National, Detroit has so many coneys that are much better service, quality and value. On the plus side it was clean and the fries were good.

  • Elizabeth S.

I've been here twice since it opened. The first time I went was around when it first opened. I had chicken fingers and fries with a milkshake. The food was pretty bad. Frozen chicken fingers, soggy fries, and the milkshake was like just drinking regular chocolate milk. Not to mention the waitstaff was very strange. Our waitress kept forgetting what we ordered then hovered over us while we ate. So I gave it some time and tried it again today. Got a hot dog and coney fries. The food was better. Typical coney food. The waitress was pretty rude but I'd say it was a step up from last time. I'd come here if I was really craving a coney but that's about it.

  • Emily C.

Meh. We ordered breakfast from a menu that was pretty scant in its selections. Our eggs were really overdone, biscuits and gravy were on the bland side and the coffee had a stale quality. Our waitress was nice and accommodating, but I won't be returning.

I'm writing this review concerning how they do business not on the food. My family came here after watching my neice play soccer. We arrived here about 8:45pm, the lettering on the door says that they close at 11:00pm but the waitress said that they they have new hours and will be closing at 10:00pm. We had asked if they were closing because the problem is that they had all the chairs already put away upside down on ALL the tables therefore no one can sit at the tables only on the front booths...it was 1hour and 15 minutes before they even closes. The other waitress was trying to get all the other customers that were coming in after us to sit in the front booths. Because of all the chairs being up on the table, all the other customers that came after us was asking the same question...if they were still open. This is NO WAY of doing business. Putting chairs on the tables during business hours way before closing time is just rude...just so that the employees can get a jump of their after hour duties. I know this is something that the manager allowed them to do. Our waitress did sit us at a table we had requested and she did put the chairs down for us but they made us feel like we're inconviencing them. This is not the way how to make a customer feel. This is a bad practice and restaurants who do this should stop.

Stopped in about 7 p.m. on a weekday for a simple carryout - a Greek salad with chicken. Salad was about $7, adding chicken was $2 or $2.50 more. Fairly standard pricing for comparable restaurants in the area. The service was very quick. I was headed out the door less than 5 minutes after walking in, so a plus there. Restaurant appeared very clean, another plus. When I order a Greek salad from a coney island, it usually comes in a styrofoam 9" square container. And you usually get 2 small containers of dressing, and a slice of pita bread (grilled, if the restaurant is on the ball). Here, the container was half that size. And that theme continued - 1 container of dressing, and 1/2 a slice of grilled pita. The salad greens were a blend, rather than straight iceberg, so that was a plus. The chicken was warm, seasoned well, and tasty. Not much of it, although proportionate to the amount of salad greens. I wasn't all that hungry (which is why I ordered a salad for dinner), so this portion was enough. But it was pretty skimpy compared to any of the five other restaurants in the area with similar menus. 4 stars for taste and service, 3 stars for value. 3.5 overall.

Try not to call in to place a carry-out order with Amy. She was very rude when I needed questions answered regarding what's offered on the menu. After the incessant giggling and off-hand comments, I decided to cancel my order. It was ridiculous and i'm not sure that this girl should be anywhere near the customer service industry. And for the review from the jerk in westland.....what do you know? You're from Wasteland.....stay there.

Tried the Coney Island on Mother's Day. Because everything else was busy. Should have made dinner at home. My husband order chili instead of soup, and fish dinner which was $8. The waitress brought the chili with dinner, which she apologized that it was busy, there was only 5 other tables full and three waitress. The chili was the chili you put on hot dogs, two beans in the whole chili. The fish was 2 small pieces what a rip off. I order the Greek salad, had better at other coney places. Will never return to this location.

We were really looking forward to our first time here, since we used to live in Royal Oak and frequent the National out there. What a serious let down. Let's starts off with how the place is over staffed and they congregated in the booth in front of us the entire time we ate. Most of them picking food off the table, walking around eating, on their phones. The bus boys, by far the worst. Unprofessional to say the least. One of them thought it was a good idea to keep yelling across the joint to his buddy. Along with the frequent body checks they kept giving each other, I was not impressed. Sloppy, boxers hanging out, most of the staff looked messy. They need some serious staff training... Not a good look for a new place. Food was decent, everything has an up charge, EVERYTHING! It's pretty upsetting to have a new business in the area with such low standards. I would have rather spent our 25.00 on a place with a little more pride in who they hire and how they train their staff. Won't be going back there, unless I want to stare at employees jerking around for fun. Not!

  • Greta T.

I have to admit I'm pretty surprised by some of these reviews. This is a brand new restaurant with presumably all new staff, so of course there are going to be some training issues at the beginning. I have eaten here several times since they've opened and I have been really impressed, across the board. (/Don't judge me - I don't do a lot of cooking!) The service has been excellent - the waitresses seem young and inexperienced, but they more than make up for that in enthusiasm and attentiveness. I was actually very impressed by every server I had. The food was delicious - I love the Hani, and I was particularly happy with my excellent breakfast! Best coney breakfast I've had in a long time - perfect over medium eggs, crispy bacon, and hash browns that are actually browned. This place is beautiful inside - definitely a major step up for the world of coneys.

Love the remodeling, inside is very clean and up to date. Ordered a coney dog which was real good. Small menu but I guess thats the norm for a small coney island.

My egg whites were runny (yuck) but the yolks were overdone. Both the sausages and eggs were very oily and had absolutely no taste. My daughter said her eggs were cold. You can't cash out at the counter, your server has to come get your payment at your table and bring it back--this is very annoying. The menu is limited. This weekend we went back to Leo's Coney Island where we usually we eat at (the one next to Kroger) and it was way better--hot food, no oil, and fast, friendly service. I've noticed that the National parking lot is looking pretty empty too. We will not be back to National.until they improve the menu and the cooking.

  • Jay B.

Meh. I've experienced better. I know it's only their second day of business, but these items I'll mention here I don't see them improving. The service was just fine and we were seated quickly. I went in wanting to order my barometer, how I measure all coney places, my "usual," an item I saw on their website just prior to arriving: "Grilled Chicken Gyro - Tender slices of marinated chicken served on a pita with lettuce, tomato and delicious honey-mustard sauce." (I planned to substitute tzatziki sauce, as I always do.) This was not even on the menu, so ordering a grilled chicken pita (gyro) was like pulling teeth. The server talked me into some item called a Hani, which must mean "wet soggy pita bread that pulls off onto your fingers like paste." The chicken tasted like pre-cooked Tyson strips from a bag. None of that yummy, fresh off the flat grill, marinated Greek chicken taste. Bland. The tomatoes and lettuce were watery - old or over-ripe I'm not sure which. The fries were coated with some super crunchy coating and flavorless. The server did not know what tzatziki sauce was (her second day, so I explained it to her), then she upcharged me for subbing that for mayo. There are 6 or more other coney islands within a stone's throw from here, and I'd rather order from any of those. Maybe I'll give them another shot at breakfast-time. Perhaps they can redeem themselves with an omelette and good hash browns?? By the way... Beautiful, new décor; I like how it's divided into sections. And, the huge flat-screen TVs are nice. Very ample parking with an extra lot in back.
