I was torn between three and four stars. I've been coming here every few years for a long time. You cannot beat the charming setting and the history of this place. The dining rooms are quaint and lovely. The service is very good. The liver pate and cheese spread brought out with the bread basket is very nice. A few drawbacks. The prices are high for what you get. Steaks, which were done perfectly, were accompanied by three tiny fingerling potatoes and two small pieces of over cooked broccolini. The butter brought out with the bread was cold and rock hard. How difficult would it be to serve softened butter? The wine pours are skimpy. If I'm paying nine dollars for a glass of wine, receiving about three ounces is not right.

Hathaway House is a lovely, charming, Victorian home in a beautiful country setting. Generally speaking, across the board, appetizers and entrees bespeak quality ingredients and imagination. However, depending on who is bar tending, the mixed drinks can be insultingly small and watery. Overall a great place to dine.

This is a great historical gem that is perfect for any occasion. The Hathaway House carefully prepares elegant dishes using fresh and seasonal ingredients. I would recommend dining here for a quiet dinner or special event. The bonus to dining here is the fact that one can enjoy the beautiful 19th century building. Furthermore, the staff is friendly and accommodating. For a less fancy setting, The Main Street Stables is another establishment owned by the same family and located directly behind the large house. They too offer delicious meals which are far from basic and bland. Also, the grounds are beautifully landscaped in the warmer months.

this is a very charming place. The service staff is very friendly and attentive. There were a couple of items I did not like and ended up not eating and the server was so attentive she did not charge me for them. It is and the expensive side but well worth it. The chocolate toffee desert is really amazing.

This is an Historical Place to eat, the Fried Chicken was tasty, but pricey, I think they could bring in more people by lowering the prices. The prices on their website are also incorrect the chicken is $24 per person. You do get personal service from an exclusive waitress. The China is pretty. The Bread Basket has a variety of different breads, with three different spreads, Corn Relish, Liver Pate' and Cheesy Garlic Spread. The atmosphere is nice but the tables are a little close to each other.

This place has been around since I was a child and it has always been excellent! Dining at its finest in a historical building from the 1800's! Beautiful old American charm is matched with excellent service and some of the finest prepared food you can get. Yes it is a tad pricey for an entree, but a lovely salad comes with it and if you don't wish to splurge on appetizers and dessert...meal will cost no more than a nice Toledo or Detroit area restaurant. Lovely decor and china and linen. Well worth the 10 mile drive off US 23 and a wonderful place to have a special family dinner or meet friends. Great coupons for discount available there, or at restaurant .com will soften the bill. Made for a memorable holiday dinner with my brother and his wife. We will return. Some things should never change!!

The Hathaway House and the Stable are 2 separate restaurants with the Stable located behind the Hathaway House. The Stable is a casual family dining experience, almost pub-like in decor, with a fairly large menu. The food is great and the service friendly. The banana cream pie is the best...the very best! Pricing is reasonable. I can definitely recommend this restaurant.

Hathaway house is a charming restaurant located in Blissfield, MI. It's a little bit upscale, but not overly so - the ambiance is actually more pleasant and quainter than the food is good. Don't get me wrong, the food is very decent here, but the interior of the House is outstanding! Interesting paintings and articles containing historical facts adorn the walls, and antiques fill every room. It's almost like dining in a mini museum! Before and after lunch, I found myself walking each room just to check the place out! All of the meals here are served with fresh bread and hard-as-a-rock butter, which is nearly impossible to spread. As a matter of fact, I had to hold my knife over the candle at our table just so I could slice a bit off for my bread. It's too bad they didn't soften it up before serving. The freshly baked bread made up for it though. It was pretty tasty. For my entree, I lashed out and went for the lamb shank. It turned out to be really flavorsome, albeit a little tough. Served over a bed of roasted potatoes and topped with slightly over cooked asparagus, it was complimented with a dark brown gravy that had the slightest taste of mint. For desert, I went with the creme brulee...no complaints there! It was yummy! If you don't mind making the trip to Blissfield, Hathaway House is worth checking out at least once. Although the food here isn't top notch, it is pretty good, and the setting makes the overall experience worth the drive.

The building is a great historical house where you feel like your going back in time. But we made reservations for 1:30 and did not leave until after 4pm. The service was very slow and we did not receive our bread until after we had received our dinner. The food had obviously been sitting for a while, it was barely warm. The food is very pricey for what you get. For a family of 4 it cost $115. I had not been there for a really long time, and now I understand why. When we talked to the manager after eating she did not apologize for any of the delays and basically said that is how things are. I would have at least appreciate a "I'm sorry for the delay", but that was not done. The stable next store is owned by the same people and has always been great. But I will never go back here ever again.

Beautiful building, horrible service. We went for Easter today and waited 2 1/2 hours before we could leave. No appetizers and we ordered shortly after sitting down. Maybe if the food was amazing it would have been worth the wait but it was just ok. Since we had a party of 10 I think the waitress didn't care because she was guaranteed her 18%. I will NEVER go back, especially since we talked to the management and they wanted to argue. Too far to drive for a bad attitude.

We celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary here with some friends who were were celebrating their 49th and we couldn't have been happier. Unlike some reviews, our food was beyond reproach with the possible exception of the salmon that was only really good. What you get here is a setting that is pretty much unique where each room in the house is a dining room filled with unique decorations and staffed by an attentive waitstaff that is always there when you need something but never intrusive. Well done! We started with the mushrooms as an appetizer and the wonderful medley of cherries and the mushrooms set the tone for the evening. The Steak Diane was so tender and perfectly prepared that there was virtually no need for a knife. The Seared Sea Scallops were huge and cooked perfectly without the undercooked center I have had at other restaurants. The Tomato Bisque soup I had in lieu of a salad was perhaps the best I have ever had and my NY Strip Steak was very nicely prepared and the house steak sauce was a fine touch. Hathaway House, with a unique ambiance, impeccable service and exquisitely prepared food hit all high notes for our special evening. We are already talking about when we can go back.

Best burger, hands down, in Lenawee County!! The burger is thick, flavorful, and juicy. The bun is this wonderful Brioche type bread and you get to pick 5 toppings. The fries are OK, but as someone who LOVES fries, these did live up to my expectations. Go with the homemade chips instead or the sweet potato fries. The cheese dip and fried pita bread are a great appetizer and the banana cream pie is my all time favorite dessert. Fantastic beer selection with plenty of Michigan breweries represented as well as some niche local distillers of spirits. In summertime the patio is a great place to relax and enjoy a nice leisurely dinner. Note: if burgers aren't your thing you can sub a chicken breast, grilled and just as tasty.

Went there this past Friday (6/15/12) at 6:30, the place was dead (not a good sign for a Friday night). This is the second time I've been here, the last being many years ago before the new owner and chef, wasn't impressed then, but thought I'd give them another chance. The Gnocchi appetizer was burned (they took it off the bill) and the Salmon and Sole dinners that we ordered were nothing special (rather bland), especially for the price. The place must seat 50 to a 100, there were 3 other tables occupied when we left. Nice historical building (needs some upkeep outside - peeling paint), food a big disappointment.
