If I could do zero stars I would of. This place is horrible. I ordered General Tso chicken and it tasted like dog. My fiance ordered beef and pea pods and the beef texture was like wet noodles...almost puked when I put it in my mouth. I figured since it was in Birmingham it would have been good...I was wrong.

If you bought a $1 frozen dinner from Kroger and cooked it in the microwave it would likely taste better than this place. Blows my mind how bad this place is and because I live in the building attached, I've given them more than a few chances. Utterly horrible...

Dinner egg rolls and spicy hot fried shrimp is where it is at if you like some spice in your lunch. I have been eating here for my Friday lunches for the past two years and I must say the sweet and sour chicken, general taus beef and the dumplings are superb. Great little family business in the heart of bham

Just do not go here unless you need some iodine for your goiter. This is not good, I have tried a couple times just to see if things change and that is just wishful thinking. The cheese wonton is pretty tasty. Looking for that Korean food menu to be posted online that other Yelpers have actually rated positively.... I would try something different in the future.

"Two stars? What the heck? This is my favorite Chinese place ever! The shrimp fried rice is awesome. Five stars definitely." As told to me by a worldly 7 year old entering the 2nd grade soon.

You need to try their Korean-Chinese menu. Now that stuff is pretty good! The reviews here are reviewing their Americanized-chinese food and I think most chinese places make terrible food unless you get an authentic meal. I give it 4 stars for their good korean-chinese meals!

Terrible service-we order the same thing every time we go in here, always terrible service but the food wasn't bad, yet has gotten much worse. We went in today for dinner, which will be our last, placed our order and was asked if we wanted it stir fry or deep fried (we've never been asked this before) I told her the regular way as she looked at me clueless. After some back and forth she said stir fry is regular. When she brought it out, the dish was incorrect. When I told her not only did she come to my table and argue with me, but the male manager can out yelling at our table how this dish was not on the menu and this was the only option of anything like what we wanted, very rudely and spiteful. Needless to say we were the only table in the restaurant, which is how it is every time we eat in there, and now I know why. Shame on you, Mountain King.

Both the sweet and sour chicken and the Sichuan beef were great. Will make this a regular lunch stop.

This was the worst - the worst I have ever eaten. The presentation was as bad as the food. The fried rice was disgusting, I thought at least the rice would be tasty, NOT. Never again.

We ordered take out from here tonight. We had the shrimp and broccoli, chicken low mien, and the bbq spare ribs. The two entries were quite good and solid representation of americanized Chinese food. However, the bbq spare ribs is not something I would order again. We will oder from here again but will continue to search for the white whale.

Honestly the most disgusting Chinese food I've ever had & bad service at that! What a waste of time & money! Wouldn't even feed it to my dogs!

Personally, I've been coming here for years. Generally, we order carry-out. I really enjoy their Sweet & Sour Chicken. It's quite tasty. I can't speak for the other dishes. Anytime we have dined in, the service was good.

Zero stars would do it justice. This spot is waaaaay over priced and so homogenized I'd guess half of it is purchased frozen at Sam's Club and/or Costco...scratch that, if that were the case it would be an improvement. Bland food. Salty when it shouldn't be and lacking when it needs salt. Or whatever I'm trying to say. Total expensive crap. Avoid. #Fail.

Raggedy. It looks bad from the outside. On the inside you think that its a bit nicer. And it is, the decor is not too bad. they have a wide variety of food to order and desert and it looks nice. First things first though turned me and my significant other away. Water. how can you get water wrong? After a sip I was passed it and told to take a drink. It was ok until I swallowed. It tasted old, stale, and just not very clean and had some form of odor to it. My aunt has better water and she is on well water. After that we made up the excuse that we had class and had to go and I paid for the two spring rolls and my coke and we left to go to Sy Thai. Stay far, far, away from this place it is scary. I wondered when we walked in why there was no one inside, and now I know why.

I don't even know where to begin. I hate Mountain King and I'm usually easy to please when it comes to Chinese food. Tofu is not hard to prepare and yet I felt like somehow they ruined it. The service was miserable, even when the restaurant was empty. The meals are overpriced for such lack of flavor. The only reason this place merits a star is that there is a lot of parking. Don't waste your money, instead, travel down Woodward into Royal Oak for Peking House.

So-so chinese food. A little overpriced, as previously stated. I have experienced pretty good service there, so it gets 2 stars rather than 1 for its service. Nothing too remarkable about this place, but it's all right in a pinch if you have a craving for Chinese food and you live in the Birmingham area.

Good dinner food with a great selection. You'll be impressed with the amount of take out performed at this restaurant as the door should be a revolving one with number of patrons that come through.

I love coming to Mountain King for their Korean Chinese food. Their jjajangmyuun, gganppongi, sesame balls, egg drop soup are all awesome!!! Everyone there is really friendly which makes it a plus! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

Worst Chinese food experience ever! I have never written a review, good or bad, ever and I felt compelled to post how terrible it was. The egg drop soup has green beans in it? And it's generally terrible. Their fried rice was THE WORST. We asked for orange chicken and got something that was not even close to orange chicken. We got carry out to eat at work and we got back and there was no silverware! So I had to make an extra trip out. All around terrible! Terrible taste, quality, and service!

Eh, well, I live near to birmingham and frankly there isn't much Chinese takeout places to choose from. Mountain King, however, looks as if it was meant to be just for takeout, and there are only a few tables in its sparsely lit and decorated eating area. It looks very old and musty in the restaurant, and it looks like nobodies eaten there for a long time, and that may be true. You can go to Sy Thai or you can go here, and to be honest I'd recommend Sy Thai because the food at Mountain King is just boring, plain, and just mundane normal Chinese food.

I ordered from Mountain King for the first time yesterday, 2/27/2014. I can say without a doubt that it will be my last time. I ordered 4 meals and paid way too much ($40) for what I received. To start, when I got to the restaurant, they did not have my carry-out order ready by the time they told me it would be. While waiting for my food, I couldn't help but notice how dirty this restaurant is. I can't believe that Birmingham lets this business operate in its current state. Moving on to the food: 3 of the meals I ordered contained chicken. I started to cut up some of the chicken for my daughter to eat. Upon doing so, I came to realize that the chicken was hard as a rock. I could barley cut through it with a knife. I then tried to bite into a piece of the chicken and, no surprise, it was virtually inedible. It honestly tasted like it was 2 weeks old. I ended up having to cook my daughter dinner, which was a bit frustrating after I spent $40 on food from Mountain King. I should also note that the dinners only came with white rice, no egg roll, no soup. Shortly after realizing that the food I ordered from Mountain King was inedible, I called the restaurant to voice my concerns. The individual that answered the phone was extremely rude and dismissive. He asked if I had ever eaten from the restaurant before and said he had never received any complaints about the chicken. Judging by the reviews I have seen here and other places, I find his claim highly improbable. I then asked if he could give me any type of refund or credit for another order. Without hesitation he said "absolutely not" and hung up on me. I have never been treated so disrespectfully by a business/restaurant rep. Obviously, I will never be going back to Mountain King and I would advise against turning over your hard earned dollars to this unscrupulous business.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
