Peabody’s Dining & Spirits

I've have a great experience everytime I've gone to Peabody's. I love the ambiance of the place, it reminds me of a few restaurants in northern Michigan. The food is outstanding, mostly due to the fact that the ingredients are fresh. I would recommend the firecracker shrimp as an appetizer but it does pack some heat but the cream sauce balances out the heat but gives a touch of sweetness to counter. By far the best dish is the canberry sage chicken. Just had it last week and the combination with the butternut squash ravioli is divine. The cranberries keep the dish feeling light with the tart flavor. I haven't been disappointed with the entree whenever I order it. Finally, the staff from the hostess to the ownership is the best around. They definitely treat you like family and are very pleasant. It's the quality of service that puts this restaurant over the top, making it one of the gems in Birmingham.

The workers were happily working together when I arrived. I interjected, and they let me in. I joked that I was looking for the "Harry Potter" entrance at the brick wall where their sign is. There is no door?!?! Although one worker had never seen any Harry Potter, the other explained that I needed magic to find them. I explained the brick tapping method. Silly muggles! They made me a tall, fancy coffee and...... I spilled it all over the counter. Instead of being annoyed, they asked how I was and continued joking with me as they cleaned it up. I even got another coffee. Great job team! Now go get that raise you deserve.

What a great showroom and product! The quality is top of the line and the variety is endless. They have many different models/colors/finishes to choose from and the staff was extermely friendly and willing to help. If anyone is looking to remodel their kitchen, this is the place to go!
I love my Scavolini kitchen! I never would have imagined that a kitchen could be so elegant, pleasing and functional. Not only am I pleased with the end result, the folks at Scavolini Detroit at Cucina Moda in Birmingham are wonderful to work with. In fact, they were the most reliable, no nonsense, contractor on my entire home renovation project. Alisha and Niki deserve 5-stars for their design-sense, practical approach and making the process so easy. Brian and his installer team also deserve 5-stars for a smooth and professional installation.

Hidden gem! Small little spot that offers a great selection of pastries. I usually try lots of different things every time I go back to a place as I get bored. However, I'm slightly addicted to the chocolate almond croissants. They are out of this world good, and I haven't tried anything else on the bakery side. As for the tarts and selections of mousse the lemon tart which is called something else and a chocolate hazelnut mousse are two that I suggest trying! The gentleman that works there is always so friendly and I am horrible with names, but I can always strike a conversation with him! Coffee is great as well... as I stated just a nice little hidden gem!
A great hidden bakery near Maple & Coolidge. It has a quaint feeling, and the outdoor seating is really nice. It's near a quiet residential area, so the traffic is not bad. I had the latte, while others in my party had the cappuccino & hot cocoa. After trying all three, I decided the latte was the best - fairly creamy and with pronounced espresso flavor. We also shared an extremely delicious chocolate eclair filled with chocolate ganache (favorite) & a refreshing fruit tarte. Will definitely be coming back here!
The macarons were great! the little patio out front is a good place to get some work done on a summer day. WiFi is free!

This place is the cats pajamas! It's conveniently right off of Woodward, on the northeast corner of 14 mile. It's a classic setup, order and pay at the window, and moments later a hand extends out with your cone/cup/bowl in hand! The selection is also classic ice cream and frozen yogurt fare, with twists, flurries, sundaes, and all the tasty fix-ins to throw on top to choose from. The one dish that they offer that is a MUST TRY, is the bumpy cake sundae. If you've never heard of this, or have never tried it, it is simply amazing. Rich, silky, and sweet, it'll satiate even the strongest sweet tooth, and leave you feeling euphoric* (*results may vary, as I left feeling euphoric, with a bit of sleepiness, dreaming of swimming in a sea of bumpy cake) The pricing is fair, and the service is quick, given how the lines can justifiably get long on summer weekend evenings. Stick around on said weekend evenings, and you've got a front row seat to the Woodward Dream Cruise fanatics getting a head start, coasting down the avenue in their classic cars.
I grew up in the area but it wasn't until AFTER I graduated from college that I learned about Dairy Deluxe. To be honest, I'm a little sad that I missed out on 21 years of deliciousness. Dairy Deluxe has a simple exterior but don't let it fool you... the treats here are tasty and despite its Birmingham location the prices are more than reasonable! I highly recommend the Turtle Sundae. They make the perfect combo of ice cream, caramel, chocolate, and pecans. I haven't found a turtle sundae that is better anywhere.
What the heck took me so long to try this place? I clearly was missing out on their tasty soft serve. I tried their flavor of the day which was soft serve fresh berry twisted with vanilla and dipped in chocolate, holy yummy! I can't wait to come back again. Keep in mind it's cash only but they are super cheap so chances are you have enough change in your car to cover a cone.

Great breads and muffins. They have little bits of the day's special on the front counter to entice you and it truly does entice. I only make it out there about once a month but I always buy more than I can reasonably use (the spinach feta bread is yummy!) but I discovered that they keep well in the fridge. Currently, I've got the Cinnamon Swirl and Cheddar Garlic in there though the Cinnamon Swirl won't be there much longer. By the way, they slice the bread for free.
I've been a fan of their bread since I tried them last summer at the Birmingham Farmers Market. This morning I tried one of their muffins and a bar thingy that was loaded with fresh blueberries. They were both amazing and I am going back tomorrow to get the exact same ones!
Absolutely fantastic bread. Better than Zingermans and a little different too. If you are thinking of visiting, make the trip. You will not be disappointed. The staff is fun and friendly and knows a ton about the product. This store is under newer ownership and from what I've tasted they are a much improved store.

I really want to give this place a higher rating, but I can't after eating the Petto di Pollo Grigliato (chicken sandwich). It was probably the worst sandwich I have ever had - the chicken was dry and the sauce did not seem to go with it. However, the Insalata di Spinaci (spinach salad) had fresh ingredients that I was impressed with. Usually don't see figs on salad (where I go)! The people behind the counter are also friendly, which improved the experience.
as stated above the food is fantastic and incredibly authentic. I feel like I am back in Italy. that being said the portions are small for the price. spaghetti with clams was over $12 and it was a tiny bowl. the homemade gnocchi was fantastic but at $10 and there were maybe about 15 gnocchi if that so you will have a good meal but the prices are too high. love the summer patio. you walk right through the kitchen and you eat outside in a Quiet place so different than front of restaurant. parking is challenging and pay for meter.
Cucina Medoro is just the best in every aspect. Every single dish is amazingly-it's the perfect spot for lunch! The owner Maria could not be more kind and caring about her customers. She is the best cook in town!!

Such a treat to have a fantastic place like this close to home. Croissants are delicious. Chocolates are creamy milk. A little pricy but for $20 I have a full bag of treats for easter and the breakfast pastry. Will be back!!
They seem to have gone out of business. Arrived at 9 and they don't look like they have been open for a while. Someone mentioned to me that they go on vacation for a month. Would have been nice to have a note on the door or something.
I should have came here on a day that was not national donut day. All I wanted was a donut. What I did get was good but I was hoping to find something else. The pictures that others post look so good. I'll be coming back to try something else

This bakery knows how to deliver sweets that are rich and light and delicious, or dense and flavorful. They don't suffer from the common misstep of making everything overly sugar-y sweet. A friend of mine got her wedding cake here and had I been married in Michigan, I would have gladly done the same. Her experience was great (I went to the cake-tasting with her) and the cake was fantastic. I just wish they had later hours.
Oh, so good, and the people are so nice. Best cakes and pastries in the area. Highly recommend.
This is a paean to the Townsend Bakery. TB, I love you. Six years later people still talk about the lemon and raspberry wedding cake you made for me. TB, you made the BEST pecan pie I have ever had - sweet, but not cloying, with a buttery, flaky crust and lots of pecans. I always thought my pecan pie was the best, but I was wrong. I am happy that I discovered yours. The pumpkin roll with cream cheese filling I had the other day? Excellent, like everything else I have had from you. I have had only the sweets from the Townsend Bakery and have come to the conclusion that the TB has the best around. I haven't tried the savory offerings, but if they are anywhere near the quality of the sweets, they must be wonderful.

Sweet Earth

Reviews:
I'm a froyo freak and just can't get it around where I live in Brighton. My husband were out on a date in Birmingham Saturday night and walked by sweet earth on our way back to the car. It was almost 10:30 but since they're open till 11 on the weekends I was able to satisfy my yogurt tooth before heading home! I got cake batter with a dop of vanilla on top. So delish and I didn't think it was too sweet, but I do enjoy my sweets. I didn't look too much at the flavor offerings, I saw what I want and I went for it, but I did notice, basically the standards, choc, pb, vanilla, reg tart etc. The toppings were pretty good, I've seen bigger spreads before, but again they had all the basics. The fruit was super fresh looking other than the berries...they looked a little sad, but it was half an hour before closing time so can't be too upset about that. And any yogurt place worth their weight will have mochi, which sweet earth did and I loaded it on :) Definitely hit our after dinner yogurt craving!
Fro yo is so hot, it's cold! Sweet Earth does it well, but they could use a few more interesting choices. How about honeydew? Or just plain coconut instead of the overly sweet pina colada. I thought the mango was a bit too sweet too, but it is called Sweet Earth for a reason, right? The toppings are plentiful, and they have mochi, yay! That's an automatic four star in my book. And what's up with the ginormous bowls?! That's marketing at it's finest. At $0.49/oz, these sweet treats can get pretty hefty. A quick tip: Pass on the caramel/chocolate toppings as this will really jack up the price. (Places in DC let you put this on for FREE after you weigh your fro yo). If you are good, you can probably get away with spending just under $4.00. (Sorry Sweet Earth marketing VPs.)
A great variety selection of yogurt flavor and toppings. However, I like yogurt to be more toward tart and light side, but the yogurt is more toward sweet and thick side.
