Stopped in here just for drinks after dinner elsewhere. Good service, great drinks, very deceptive pricing. They hand you a menu only has happy hour pricing even though it's not happy hour. So drinks look like they're all fairly cheap but are really double that. Now, I wouldn't have changed my buying decisions based on the price, but if you make a great $12 cocktail you shouldn't have to hide behind a lower price. Most restaurants show you the full price and then mention the happy hour price, not the other way around.....

Wow!!!!!! First off the service is unbelievable! What a great way to spend date night. You're well taken care of and the food is great. Creative menu and everything is very well put together. It's romantic without being too serious. The salad was amazing. Croutons made to order. The Reggie Bush steak is unbelievable when cooked medium plus. The two sides we had were cream corn and the potatoes! All I can say is this place is great! From the attention to the food... Incredible. We will be back! I would recommend to anyone. Hyde Park was a great experience!

Have eaten here 3 times and each time had been a terrific experience. I always start off with sausage stuffed peppers- they do have a bit of kick, so if you do not tolerate spice I would not recommend this app. Oysters are very good as well. I've had the salmon in the past (deeeeelish!) and waygu steak is divine! The service is wonderful each time. The prices are steep here so I reserve this restaurant for special occasions. The waitstaff is very knowledgable about wine pairings. On an added note, they have graciously given us a dessert on the house during 2 of our dinner celebrations. Absolutely love this place.

I've been here numerous times and have to agree with the majority of the reviews that this place is great! It's exactly what you would expect from a high end steakhouse; great food/drinks, a very trendy atmosphere and professional service catering to your every need. The real hidden gem of Hyde Park is it's happy hour! Great prices and sitting near the front is very cozy. I would prefer going here during the week around 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM than for a romantic dinner on the weekend, although this would be an awesome choice for that as well. Also, they have two dessert options that remind me of Gibson's or Hugo's in Chicago - the Carrot Cake or Red Velvet Cake. The portion of cake is huge and definitely a good way to end an evening!!

Dwight looks almost exactly like Morgan Freeman. About the same age. Same good looks and posture. Dwight was our waiter. He told us the Kobe steak was "likely the most succulent on Earth." But we got the regular. It was the best steak I've ever had. They pampered is with fancy salt from the Himalayas and the most amazing asparagus and great mashed potatoes. Five star all the way.

My husband and I were looking for a restaurant we had never tried for our anniversary. Hyde Park did not disappoint!! The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the staff are professional, not pushy and make the extra effort to ensure you have a wonderful experience. Steve and his partner Amy (we hope we remember her name correctly) were our servers, both great. We love how they introduce them selves and tag team your table. Lastly, the food was exceptional! From the complimentary spicy tuna crunch sushi (I guess sushi is new to the menu) for our first visit, to the filet minon and sides of garlic whipped potatoes and pancetta creamed corn (not like your mother used to make) we were in heaven. We will be back, even just for the sushi!!

As we arrived we were promptly escorted to one of the cozy dining rooms with a blazing fireplace. It was -7 outside so what a welcoming site. We had lobster bisque and Riesling wine for a starter, followed by a wedge salad with a delish creamy blue cheese infused dressing embellished with Apple wood smoked bacon . Entrée was chicken medallions in a bearnaise sauce with capers It just melted in my mouth. The service was truly exceptional. Our meal ended with a "to go" slice if flourless chocolate torte. All n all an enjoyable experience in downtown Birmingham on a freezing Feb. night.

Went for Birmingham Restaurant Week, and I'm glad I did! The place is wonderful- there are all these little nooks and rooms curtained off with velvet curtains and stuff, and fireplaces... it's just really nice. The wedge salad was awesome, and my boyfriend loved his lobster bisque. The steaks were great, but needed some kind of sauce. If they had come with a red wine sauce, I probably would have given five stars. The cheesecake was great, but didn't say it had blueberries on it on the menu. I hate blueberries, so if I had known, I would have ordered it without them. As it was, I scraped them off but the cheesecake was still contaminated with blueberry juice :(

Best carrot cake I have ever had. Excellent service and attention to detail. Bartender recommended sushi. I usually don't eat sushi. I was in heaven. Can't say enough positive things...wonderful night.

When paying $35 for a 7 oz filet with 3 other steak houses in the same mile, you expect the best. I can't say that's what we experienced. The ambiance is wonderful. Beautiful tables and chairs in the perfect location in downtown Birmingham. But, when you order a filet medium, you expect that they should know how to cook medium. My steak was medium rare and so was my son's, and he ordered medium well. By the time my steak came back, everyone else was done eating. At this price point, there's no excuse for that. Also, it was a slow Sunday evening. I'm willing to pay top dollar, but it better be exceptional. This experience was ho hum at best.

Been here a couple times, and while I agree with the other reviewers, this place seems to fit what I like. The food tastes great to my palate. True, the recipes are not overly ambitious, but I love straightforward fish and vegetables if they are well prepared. The preparation and presentation of the food are flawless, and everything just tastes great. I have had sirloin steak, swordfish, and the chicken--all great. Potatoes au gratin and asparagus are great also. Same for the wedge salad. Drinks are good. Prices for everything are not cheap, but I only go here on occasions when I don't care about the cost. If you are price sensitive, go to a coney. Service could be better. Attentive at the beginning, very slow to deliver the check. And I agree with other reviews--they need to tone down the "suggestive selling" -- it is really really annoying and completely transparent. So yeah it has flaws, but management can fix those easily (I hope).

Amazing, heavenly, perfection. Hyde Park has done customer service, food and drinks flawlessly. It all felt like a dream. In great company myself, my date and I were welcomed at the door by two managers and a beautiful hostess. I feel ashamed I can't think of the nice woman's name but the gentleman is named Nick. They each personally introduced themselves soon after we ordered drinks, appetizers and dinner. A pleasant surprise, Nick hand delivered us sushi samples to taste from their new menu. The nice woman (manager) pre-bussed our table frequently. Our server a suave young man himself was excellent. The experience was pure bliss. We ordered oysters Rockefeller, lamb chops, the grouper and cocktails. Everything including the timing of our food was perfect, I wouldn't change a thing. The ambiance of the restaurant was old country club style and the lighting romantic enough for us. Not too romantic, as the tables next to us were a family, a mother - daughter duo, and a group of businessmen. We dined early evening and the experience went beyond my expectation. I thought I would be in a restaurant full of snooty folks but this was so not the case. Hyde Park had me at Hello.

The food and staff at Hyde Park are outstanding. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. I had the wedge salad with the Filet Minion. Excellent

I was sceptical of the calamari, the first time I had ordered it, but, it's divine! I look forward ordering it every time I go. The lobster mac and cheese was perfection! The filet was cooked just right... I loved the lobster & béarnaise sauce on top ;) asparagus was cooked perfectly. Accompanied with my preferred Nappa Valley Cab Sauv red wine. Only thing I had to do was bring my fine company to enjoy the experience.

Bottom-line: I was not impressed. This place is REALLY expensive. And it's a chain. And the quality just isn't there. I can appreciate the whole, "we're celebrating and let's go nuts," mentality - but this is just not worth the extra price. We had a family group of 5 here for my sister's birthday. I ordered the petite filet with peppercorns and red wine sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly but not as tender as I like my filets to be - the worst part was that the peppercorns were a bit TOO coarse; many of them not crushed at all, and I had to brush a lot of them off. The sides were just okay (basic asparagus and basic mashed potatoes), nothing spectacular. High points were that the burger looked great (my husband had it; he couldn't bear to have a $40 petite steak with a'la carte sides on my dad's bill), the drinks were spectacular and our service was phenomenal and attentive. We had a lovely experience, don't get me wrong, but it's NOT worth the price. Go to Lelli's in Auburn Hills and spend $39 each for a five course meal with filet that will melt like butter.

Number of Personal Visits: 5 Number of Corporate Visits: 1 Location: Excellent Decor: The restaurant decor creates an unbelievable feel unlike any other steakhouse in the area. The bar AREA is the best bar/lounge around. Menu: Excellent Ideas Actual Food: Good Corporate Service: This is where it gets interesting. I booked a Corporate 12 person dinner and it didn't go "great" due to the service. The manager at the time told me that they always do an amazing job for corporate events...NEVER EVER do poorly and they know this because of their special surveys that they get back from corporate customers. So, I asked him for a survey and ironically he wouldn't send me one...lol...this is actually funny...No wonder their surveys are always good...lol. I am not excited about the idea of doing another corporate event here. Personal Service: I have spent all 5 visits in the bar area. In all 5 visits, I've had rude servers with majorly annoying attitudes. I felt like I popped into somebody's living room unannounced and was asking to be served food and drinks. That's how the staff has made me feel. He gang, quit ruining my experiences there and quit ruining a restaurant group that has invested a ton money in food and decor.

Stopped in on a weekend and had a couple of beers and snapped up some oysters on the half shell. The bar area is really big and you have a partial view of the dining area which is nice, elegant, head to toe wood and looks more like a movie set of what a ritzy restaurant should look like. The bar was very well stocked with every level of alcohol a budget could desire and a few decent beers on tap as well as a wine list that didn't disappoint. Staff was quick and friendly even though I got a weird vibe from the bartender lady, like she thought I was going to steal a bar glass or something. Sorry, next time i'll wear some Hugo Boss gear and make you feel small. Oysters were very good with just a bit of grit, but overall well worth it. It's difficult to source a good oyster this far away from the sea. I would recommend them and will probably get them again myself upon a return visit. I can't wait to dive into a hunk of beef here, the smells coming out of the kitchen were heavenly.

Best happy hour in town!!! Try the beef carpaccio off the bar menu or the burgers!!! Love this place over any other in town!

Went here last night for Birmingham Restaurant Week. This wouldn't normally be on my radar. I like a nice steak once in a while but I'm usually not willing to fork out steakhouse prices. Call me cheap, but I liked the $30 restaurant week menu. We had a wonderful evening -- fabulous service & darn good food. My white pear martini was awesome. I may have to come back and visit the bar just to have another. The lobster bisque was quite nice, but not the best I've ever had. I was actually jealous of the wedge salad that my husband ordered - super yum. The bacon wrapped twin filet was perfectly cooked and served in a delicious sauce. The pretzel rolls were fresh out of the oven - and I think they may have been my favorite part of the whole night. The flourless chocolate torte was pretty good - very rich but I was so stuffed that I couldn't finish it. Overall, I love what they did with the place. Very conservative styling, but well appointed and classy. Will I be back? Hmmm. Maybe next Restaurant Week. ;)

Repeat visitor. GREAT happy hour and wonderful bar area. I actually like sitting in the bar area better. Very clubby/library/fireplace atmosphere. Never had the pushy upselling that others commented on. Enjoyed the Restaurant Week menu and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Calamari and shrimp apps were delicious (we try calamari everywhere). My crab cake was made with chunks of crabs and very good. Looking forward to my next visit.

We go to sit in the bar area, have a few drinks and a small bite. Never had a full-blown meal, but we really enjoy the atmosphere of the bar. Very comfortable, quiet enough to have a conversation, even when busy.

I love Yelp because I can sing the praise of all the kitchens, servers and staff that make me and my guests enjoy our reasons for being together. As for this place, it is great to look at and is at a center location, however the food is ok and the service is never worse. And for the cost, I am disgusted. Embarrassed for the restaurant and for my thought of taking people there. 100% markup on wine. Inferior cuts or meat. And the worst service I have ever experienced anywhere. Be wary of how they push their food and drink. It's not good and they push and push while you are trying to talk with your guests. Go anywhere else. I will never go here again. Such a shame, that space used to be great. Beware, your wallet will get raped and your dinner party will feel uncomfortable.

Came here with a group for a going away party. The service was really good, and the steaks were even better!! I ordered The Megatron, a 16oz bone in New York strip. It was perfect! The sides are served family style which I hadn't expected but it worked out well with just the right amount for everyone.

Was expecting more...the food was only adequate. It was not bad, but certainly not worth what they charge. The flavors were somewhat simple and boring. The service was nice...the decor okay. I just don't think it was a great experience. Steakhouses are all over in SEMI...to stand out it has to be great - this was not.

  • christopher w.

With all the steakhouses in the area this place is among the worst. Oysters rockefeller were bland and the bone in ribeye was chock full of tough fat. Atmosphere was not so great either. If you want a great cowboy ribeye, go to Fleming's....for a lot less price wise as well!!!

I have been to Hyde park twice now. Both times with a party of 7 or more. The waiters were attentive and knowledgable. It's very cozy inside and would be a great date spot! The flourless chocolate torte was amazing. We ordered one slice for the table since we all got apps and dinner and were full. We passed it around and had to order a second piece because everyone loved it so much! I will be back for a third time in the near future!!!

I've been to Hyde Park on several occasions, usually with a group of co-workers. The atmosphere is great and allows for good conversation. The staff and manager are accommodating and knowledgeable. The steaks I've had were cooked as I ordered and had a nice flavor to them. I do recommend the dry-aged steak as it had a good juicy texture and flavor.

Just went back a second time. It was even better. Great service, great martini's, and a masterful steak. Glad 220 was closed the last time I was in town, or I never would have tried Hyde Park.

Went last night with two other couples and had a decent meal. Four out of the six people ordered zip sauce or added salt and pepper to their steak. That's a huge no no to me and could to believe the wonderful piece of meat wasn't filled with the flavor we were expecting. I ordered the 26 oz 50 day aged ribeye and it was good not great. The service was honestly amazing and the atmosphere was great. I would go back if I had to only because of the great service and atmosphere.
