I really want to give this place a higher rating, but I can't after eating the Petto di Pollo Grigliato (chicken sandwich). It was probably the worst sandwich I have ever had - the chicken was dry and the sauce did not seem to go with it. However, the Insalata di Spinaci (spinach salad) had fresh ingredients that I was impressed with. Usually don't see figs on salad (where I go)! The people behind the counter are also friendly, which improved the experience.

as stated above the food is fantastic and incredibly authentic. I feel like I am back in Italy. that being said the portions are small for the price. spaghetti with clams was over $12 and it was a tiny bowl. the homemade gnocchi was fantastic but at $10 and there were maybe about 15 gnocchi if that so you will have a good meal but the prices are too high. love the summer patio. you walk right through the kitchen and you eat outside in a Quiet place so different than front of restaurant. parking is challenging and pay for meter.

Great quick lunch or coffee spot. Soup is amazing and Maria is truly an authentic Italian cook! Meatballs are also delicious. Try the espresso. Limited seating but open and airy.

Pretty good carry out Italian food. Loved the Buratta salad. The sandwich was just ok. Thought the bread was a little rough. Would definitely carry out from here again but wouldn't say I love it. Wish I could give 3.5 stars

Maria is the best chef/caterer in the area. A wonderful spot to have phenomenal French toast in the morning. I have ordered several items for larger groups and the food was prepared and ready to serve on my pickup day. More importantly all my guests asked for the name and location because the food was so fresh and delicious. Maria oversees all the cooking and her recipes are the best around. Cucina Medoro is certainly a hidden gem in Birmingham on old Woodward. I was fortunate to track Maria down from when she prepared the food for a restaurant in downtown Plymouth. Birmingham Mí gained an unparalleled Italian chef.

This little gem of a restaurant is tucked away amid a row of businesses north of the main shopping area of Birmingham. Maria, the chef/proprietress, takes great care to provide Italian cuisine that is both down-home and authentic. Had lunch here recently- nothing too fancy: a salad that was an Italian spin on a Michigan salad - crisp Romaine lettuce, dried cranberries, caramelized walnuts, Gorgonzola and tomatoes, with a nice selection of dressings. My choice - Balsamic vinaigrette - paired well with the salad. I took a chance and allowed the dressing to be served on the salad rather than on the side, and it was served with a light hand. My co-diner had the Insalata Primavera, which came with asparagus, mushrooms, and artichokes, served over mixed greens. The salad dressings are all house made, and are served with a couple pieces of excellent bread, baked on premises. Co -diner tried the Caprese sandwich on an earlier visit, and gave it a rave review. Service was graciously friendly, and the look of the place quite warm and inviting. Be warned: at times, parking can be an issue in the area, and the small size of the place (no more than 7 or 8 tables, with a patio out back with 3 or so more tables overlooking the river) might crowd out diners arriving at peak times. But a taste of Maria's hospitality - and great cooking - is worth the wait.

Cucina Medoro is run by a true culinary artist- from original Italian dishes, like Eggplant Parmigiana, to traditional American items, like pork tenderloin and cheesy potatoes, Maria's versions always exemplify perfect taste. Additionally, the environment at Cucina Medoro is very welcoming, treating all as regulars whether you're a first timer or an every day customer. Personal favorite dishes include the Pasta e Fagioli Soup with homemade Italian bread, Gnocchi with Butter & Sage, Tacchino (turkey) Panini and the Tiramisu.

Knowing that my mom is 100% Italian and is familiar with great Italian cuisine I went on the Yelp App looking for Italian food in Birmingham, Michigan. I read the existing reviews on Cucina Medoro. It sounded wonderful. My mom and I arrived and decided to share soup, salad and homemade gnocchi's. We were very pleased. The soup was a light tomato based soup filled with pasta and veggies . The salad was crisp romaine and greens with Gorgonzola cheese, walnuts, cranberries and delicious dressing. My mom was most impressed with the melt in your mouth Gnocchi's with meat sauce. She said it reminded her of her parents gnocchi's. Her parents were born in Italy. It would be nice if the restaurant was a sit down and order type place that served wine. But the food is so good that we will be back regardless of order at the register type service.

Maria's was amazing! She was so sweet and accommodating for a private event we had at her storefront. Not to mention, every single thing we had was authentic and delicious. And we had a lot: bruschetta, caprese salad, lasagna, baked chicken, green salad, and tiramisu!

Maria's Italian fare is the best I've ever tasted. I also highly recommend her for catering - she services anything from a family get together to corporate events!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
