'OK' pretty much describes it except for the prices which are way high for this small town and rather average restaurant with not so great service. I've eaten there only once in the last 2 months. One time was okay... Slim Jim type sandwich done well and the service was fine. But there was almost nobody in the place so I'd expect that. Last night we went to have dinner, were seated and then waited a full 20 minutes with still nobody coming to our table to deliver water, or wait on us in any way at all. We got up and walked out, with nobody noticing at all. We seemed irrelevant to them. This is an old local place and has had a number of names and most likely owners. It retains the 'cache' of mostly 'locals', and I have to say mostly people over 65. We are 70 and appeared to be the youngest folks in the place besides the waitress and the bartender. Entrees are very expensive and when they cost that much, the waiter should look clean and maybe even like there is a uniform... of white shirt and black pants..or something. The waitress who was working seemed unkempt, messy hair, and a seemingly dirty apron. I think she may even have been wearing jeans. Small point maybe. But know what you are getting into. I suspect breakfast is fine though I've not had that for years. Oh and the sign is dumb. It is a bull with crossed legs drinking a martini. My family laughingly says it looks like a gay bull... and it does.

Toonie's has very good food, the Prime Rib on Saturday night is outstanding! Come early or they'll be out of the Prime Rib. After dinner, stroll through downtown Bellaire and visit the local shops.

The WORST!!!! The two times I have went here neither time we're the waitresses nice. They we're rude and did not care if we needed anything. In fact the second time after being their for 10 minutes we left we have never been treated so poorly. When we did eat there it wasn't anything that great. If you like decent food and rude people...This is the Place For You!!!!

My family and I rented a cabin in Bellaire and on our last morning there we stopped at Toonies. Our waitress was not only friendly, but she was also very funny! We all ordered different breakfast items and everything was delicious. The service was perfect. I asked for onions in my hashbrowns, and the cook made them together :) Many places sautee the onions separately and place them on top of the potatoes, which is pointless, because you don't really get that onion flavor in the potatoes. But this cook did...and they were perfect! I would highly recommmend Toonies!

We visited Toonies the day before thanksgiving. The sign captivated our eight year old daughter because of the crossed legged bull drinking a martini. Like the atmosphere and the service was prompt. Food was ok although our daughter did get sick from her meal so we spent the next two days cleaning up after her. The servers and staff were very friendly fast and professional. Plan to visit again, but we would stick to the awesome drink specials. Don't think the bull is gay like the previous commenter has said. How can a bull be gay anyway? Does he listen to Madonna? Thanks for the great memories! Eric and family from Ohio

We stopped in here for breakfast while on a golf weekend. It is one of two breakfast places we found in town. Half the group went to the other place and half went here. It was just standard fare but it was served in a warm and inviting environment. The woman who seemed to be the owner or managers knew everyone or so it seemed. We all had omelets and enjoyed them.

I was craving walleye so my husband and I decided to give Toonies a try. They had many fish options to choose from: perch, walleye, whitefish, and salmon. Their special prime rib caught my husband's eye. We ordered prime rib and walleye and shared a little of each. We each started off with salad with mixed greens and fresh veggies. Their preparation of walleye--rolled in potato chips and grilled--was not my favorite. I prefer lightly breaded and fried. It was good, but it didn't satisfy my craving. The prime rib was served a perfect medium and was quite tender and juicy. They have many more dinner options such as burgers, steaks, sandwiches, and salads. They also have nightly dinner specials throughout the week. They're also open for breakfast and lunch.

Can't find much of anything to complain about here! Toonie's definitely doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. The food certainly isn't the highest quality you might find, but it is good or very good on every mark. I don't think I would order an expensive cut of meat here, but it's good for burgers, simple steaks, and other traditional foods. I had to laugh at the "wet burrito" offered on Mondays. No one uses this term in other areas of the country and it reminded me that I was "home" after years spent living in Arizona and New York. The service is also very friendly, no matter whether they know you or you are a complete stranger tourist wandering in off the street. Kudos.

Visit was in late September 2013. We were opting for dinner at a different place in town, but when we were told that it was almost a 2 hour wait (WTF??), we decided to look elsewhere in town. Toonie's a nice, local joint in a touristy town and we were able to walk right in and have a seat. I had a steak, cooked exactly how I wanted it. Served quickly, my margarita was nice - it was a good experience. My friend opted for a different steak - cooked as nicely. Should I be in Bellaire again, I would go back.

Huge pancake was a hit with our son, but the obviously canned spinach and canned mushrooms in my omelet made it pretty bad - canned ingredients in an omelet? Yuck. Speedy and friendly service redeemed them.

Went in for a breakfast sandwich (which they don't have on their menu). The waitress was accommodating and had the kitchen make one up. The food was neither bad or good, but the service was great!

Visited for a late dinner on a Saturday night . . the whole town was buzzing . . able to get a seat . . I didn't hold out much hope for getting served and less hope for getting our food in a timely manner. I was pleasantly surprised, friendly server, food quickly arrived, and husband said best soup he had had in a very long time.

The usually reliable restaurant was a disaster. Special of the night prime rib was a terrible piece of meat, tough and gristley. Waitress--who was excellent--offered to bring another cut, but I passed and shared my wife's fried chicken. There was no discount on the bill for the prime rib ($17.95) which mostly was inedible. if in Bellaire, stick to Short's Brewery, Lulu's, Moka, Bellaire Bar, or Shanty Creek.

Came in on a slow night, but service was good and our orders were tasty. I had porkchops and was pleased to find they were not overcooked. The cherry relish that comes with was a great pairing. I sprung for the loaded mashed reds, and they were delicious. My friend had the baby beef livers and was also impressed with the flavor and skill in cooking. I wouldn't call the food pricey but it's about average. No stellar values or anything but all around, we got what we paid for and were not disappointed.

Toonies is a great place to take a family for a good meal at a fair price. Excellent fish fry on Friday, great ribs (special price Wed), nice steaks and king crab leg dinners, and a nice section of comfort foods. Moderate pricing on wines and cocktails. Great for breakfast and lunch too.

Have been to Toonies many times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Have never had a bad meal or a dining experience. Food is good and selections are many. Their weekday specials are excellent values (ribs on weds, fish fry on Fri). Only place around that doesn't serve COD for their fish fry. They serve ocean whitefish.

We had breakfast one morning this week and are going back for dinner with hopes of an equal experience. The waitress was super nice and attentive, ambiance is perfectly suited to this small town, prices reasonable and food very good and ample. I was even warned that the pancakes are dinner-plate size, resulting in a smaller order that I could barely finish. Just perfect!

This is a Wonderful family restaurant and we've been eating there for many years. We've always had great tasting, well prepaired food that's served with a smile. Not too pricey or fancy. Just good, fresh food.
