The Grasshopper Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Nothing special that I could not make at home and I am not much of a cook. I expected home made tortillas and chips but only the salsa seemed home made and it was too hot and no choice of a mild salsa. Plus it was liquid and not chunky. I ordered a combination plate and there was nothing on there that I particularly liked. I had a very weak strawberry margarita. I heard good things about this place but was disappointed. We were starving and did have to wait quite a while although the place was nearly empty. Only saw one waitress for lunch time. More like a bar that serves Mexican food than a restaraunt that serves drinks.

It is what it is. I guess if you want to get stuffed for cheap and waddle out of the place like all of the other buffet lovers in this town then go here. I give it 3 stars because the waitress was a gem.

Very overrated. Wait times are long and the cheese sauce tasted like melted Velveeta. Our server didn't seem to care about drink refills. We had to ask for the bill after being forgotten about. It is just another restaurant in Adrian that caters to the lack of taste buds this town seems to cater to. I wouldn't recommend if you are looking for an authentic experience. There are other options in town that offer better flavor, less waiting, and better service.

We actually ate at the Grasshopper in Wauseon, Ohio - same ownership as the Adrian, Michigan location. On the recommendation of a business associate, a friend and I made the hefty journey from Toledo - nearly 50 miles one way this past Saturday. My associate had given this place high praise. Well, we'd give it about a 2 1/2. The margaritas - regular, on the rocks - were wimpy, watery and pretty much tasteless. We ordered bean dip - not on the menu - and it was "ok". We each ordered a combination of enchiladas and burritos with the various sauces ordered and they too, were "ok". Oh, we also ordered some queso dip. This establishment actually refers to it as their "green sauce". Very odd - their idea of green sauce is melted faux cheese sauce that is actually lemon yellow in color. It was not exactly culinary heaven. On the plus side, the service was very attentive - though we were there for a late lunch and the place only had a few tables going - and it is as clean as a whistle. Would we go back? If I were in Wauseon (doubtful since this was the 1st time in my life that I've ever been there) and hungry, I'd consider it only because it was clean. I admit I'm somewhat of a Mexican food snob. And, this place was much different than the dozen or so Mexican restaurants that have opened in the Toledo area recently - none of them worth the time or money in my opinion - it's just that the food was nothing special. Not bad (except the "green sauce") just nothing to go out of your way for.

This is a really good Mexican restaurant. They do all the basics right. It's a fun place to get some good food and drink some Corona beer. Definitely family-friendly.

Went with a friend that highly recommended this place. Just ok....home made warm chips would be an improvement, salsas were just ok, cheese sauce was melted velveeta. Guacamole, was good, and you can order tacos, quesadilla etc ala carte if not real hungry. Food just ok. Dos Equis on tap. Don't understand the hype over this versus any other Mexican place you've ever eaten at. Men's bathroom was Gross.

Updated 1/28/14 I liked the Margaritas ( some say best in town) as well as the tacos. They went smoke free Jan 1 ,2010 before the ban...even better. The Chicken Fajitas are two cuts above other places. Unlike a place near Wal Mart ...this venue's Margaritas actually have alcohol in them and taste great. Made at the time of order, not stockpiled in pitchers... they are Fresh and Frothy! Adrian is a town rich in Hispanic Culture so you will find many authentic Mexican eateries, and they are all pretty good. I vote Grasshopper/ El Chapulin as the top on my list that serves alcohol.

This place is great. It is kinda sad to see only 2 reviews on this place. As Carissa said on here, I may be slightly bias as well, being that I grew up in Tecumseh about 15 minutes away and would go here growing up every few weeks. The place is always busy and service is always very good. They have a fresh, authentic mexican food that never lets you down. Chips and salsa when your seated like standard places, however, you get a homemade cheese sauce that is the bomb. If you are ever coming through Adrian (for whatever reason) make sure you check out the Grasshopper!

My husband and I love Mexican food and have enjoyed it from Mexico to Michigan, including dozens of restaurants between Detroit's Mexican town and the area surrounding Ann Arbor. Detroit's and Adrian's are both very good, but very different from each other. A lot of places just use ground beef or plain chicken covered in Mexican dressings and various tortilla wrap methods. Food at The Grasshopper is seasoned nicely and made to order. Side dishes are as good as the entrees!!! The Grasshopper serves up delicious well flavored refried beans, and moist fresh well seasoned rice-not minute rice or converted rice but the real thing-as sides to many dinner selections. I had beef enchiladas made with well seasoned beef, and a topping of a cheese sauce...NOT drowned in plain melted cheese...they were delicious! My husband had steak fajitas which were tender and well seasoned. The salsa was just great! We choose extra hot and they also had mild and medium. Great. Delicious. And plenty are good descriptions of the salsa! We also ordered guacamole which was fresh and tasty! We consider this restaurant to be better than any other Mexican one In SE Michigan and drive 45 minutes to enjoy it. They are also open till 11:00 which is nice if you have a long drive to get there or have a meeting or sport beforehand.

I am certainly biased on this one. I grew up in Adrian, and the Grasshopper is always a must stop place when I return home for vacation and holidays. The food is simply awesome, I have not found another mexican place I like better. The service is always friendly, food always tasty, prices are reasonable, and actually seem cheap after living in Seattle for 10 years.

My families favorite Mexican restaurant. My parents have been going here since they were both kids, now whenever we are in town we head straight to El Chaps. By far the best restaurant in Adrian. Chips could be a little better, but that is my only qualm with this place.

After a 35 minute wait on a Friday night . . . Us: "Is the rice salty?" Waitress: "No. In fact I don't think there is enough salt." Here's what was bad: All the food was extremely salty. The refried beans were watery and pale, like they were out of a can. Here's what was merely OK: Chips were warmed under a hot lamp before being served. The guacamole was cut with sour cream, but still tasty. Fajitas were just ok, but again too salty. The salsa is watery, so that it can be dispensed out of a squeeze bottle, but has some decent heat to it. "Spanish" Rice is the white colored variety, not the red tomato type.

I may be slightly bias because this Mexican restaurant is what I grew up eating, so every time I go back home to Tecumseh, I make the extra 15 minute drive to Adrian to grab dinner at The Grasshopper/El Chapulin. For me, there is a little more than just good food at The Grasshopper. There's nostalgia too. It's almost a guarantee that I will see a familiar face when I get through those doors, but that just goes with the territory. I recommend mixing the queso and salsa - but be prepared to overeat. It's ridiculously hard to stop eating the chips and dip. The chicken enchiladas are amazing with the cheese sauce. Mmmm...my mouth is seriously watering right now. The chicken is shredded and very fresh. I wish I had more variety to review on, but I always get the same entree. I know that my husband has become a devoted fan of the burritos, tacos and the enchiladas as well. The amount of food he consumes there is shameful, but in a good way. It's just too bad we live so far away. I hope Yelpers nearby are able to enjoy The Grasshopper as much as we do!

Here's another Menudo review. All the food here is exceptionally good and hot. Decent service, full plates. Large menu covers the usual culinary Mexican waterfront. But to the Menudo. It's damn good. The color leans toward more of a tan palette. Probably not loaded up as much with chili powder. It's ok thought. Not insipid, and loaded with correct sized chunks of tripe. All the ingredients are there and you get the chopped onions, lemons/limes and salsa. The only difference between The Sportsmans in Port Huron, is no small bowl of pureed jalapenos. Gotta have the verde to make this bowl balanced. Ok, next stop, Mexican town. Who claims they have a good Menudo bowl down there. Lemme know!

Really good food and usually a great staff. Waitress was quite rude and unfriendly last night however. Also make sure you are aware that chips and their cheese sauce that you would assume to be free are actually $3.50.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
