The special was lump crabcakes..... THE BEST I have ever experienced!! The wait staff is amazing. Everyone very friendly and helpful. Patiently answered all my questions and very prompt with each course. My husband had the Fisherman's platter and said it was the best he'd ever had. The desserts are all homemade.... I had pumpkin cheesecake and the "slice" would have fed the whole table!!! I would recommend this restaurant highly.

The food and staff were exceptional. The decor is really neat, and you literally feel like you're in a barn. Three of the four people at our table ordered the full lobster dinners which were delicious and a great price.

It was served fast and hot. Thursday night lobster deal seems to be real bargain. Overall food just so so

I thought this place was pretty good. Our lobster did come out cracked, and we got all the toys with it (bibs, wet naps, tools, etc.). I was a fan of the endless salad. Sorry, I can only comment on the lobster. I am from New Jersey, it's a sin for me to eat anything other than lobster when I am in Maine.

This place kind of weirds me out. Fish on display, as far as the eye can see. We stopped here on the way to the outlets to get some lobster. Being city folk, we weren't ready for the lobster to come out without being pre-cracked. Sans lobster cracking tools, hubby had to wrestle with this little hot lobster until his hands were covered in lobster slime, and I had lost my appetite for the sweet meat. It was the way his antennae were waving around while hubby ripped his claws apart. I'm weak. The fries were yummy, but the fried scallops tasted like they weren't quite done in the center, and had that strange sandy texture that I dislike. I like them squishy, and not fishy.

Delicious. I was here with my husband and in-laws for dinner. We were told to expect a 45-60 minute wait and settled ourselves into the bar area. After 20 minutes, we were called to be seated. Our server was phenomenal; she knew the menu and was patient with us as we figured out what we wanted. The price was very reasonable and the food was tremendous. We had lobster pies and the baked haddock along with the baked potato with sour cream, sweet potato fries (medium sized crinkle cut wedges), barn fries (hand cut with the skin, old school style), clam chowder (made perfectly- just a bit watery), garden salad (came with dried cranberries and home made croutons), and the day's special gumbo (to die for!). I'm personally not a lobster fan, but the rest of my crew kept dropping their jaws at the size of lobster chunks in their pies, practically whole claws were in there. My haddock was light and flaky, just the way it's supposed to be, and the stuffing used was buttery and delicious. The restaurant itself is dated and the bar smelled a little musty but it is casual, friendly, and crazy clean - the floors were gleaming they were that clean. So don't come here for any special ambiance, but do come here for the food and a great experience.

After a day at yorks wild kingdom, me and my group of 7 struggled to find an open restaurant on a Sunday. We did see the lobster barn and decided to eat there. Huge mistake, after sitting us down underneath the a/c, dripping all over our table, the waitress told us all she could do was wipe it down. Naturally, that only kept my back dry for maybe 5 minutes. After another 10 minutes, we were able to order drinks, and after another 10 minutes, they came and we put in our food order. We watched as every other table got great service, with bread and drink refills, while our waitress stood in the corner and texted on her phone. The food was ok. I had clam chowder, kinda watery. The prices are a bit over the top. Fried clams without any spice. Good luck on French frie choices. I chose crunchy fries over barn fries and made the wrong choice. I'll just skip to the bill, where even though it wasn't marked on the menu, 18% gratuity was already includes in our horrible service, and iffy food. It was as if the waitress knew, and figured she could give crap service because she was gunna be all set with her tip anyways. Just skip this restaurant.

Great pub at this place! Very cozy. Pretty good tap selection. Good burger. Really friendly bartenders and regulars. Lots of good deals and feebies too. Go here!

Ok...not great! Lobster was on the light side for $25. Baked potato was nothing outstanding, bread was ordinary. My caesar salad was good and fresh And our waitress was pleasant, but i would not go back.

The service is awful. Tried it two times in the past few months and both times we left because our server never showed up. Prior to that, the food was fine (you get what you pay for). Sad really, I used to love to go to the Lobster Barn growing up -- not the same.

we stopped in for lunch one saturday not knowing what to expect. very nice decor inside and very clean. plenty of seating and we got a table by the fireplace. service was pretty good, she got right to the point and didnt hassle us while we ate, like most waiters/waitress' do. mussels for starters where divine, no salty taste at all, very clean, i didnt want them to end. clam chowder was good but its pretty hard to make bad clam chowder. we got the stuffed lobster for main with garlic mash. very tasty indeed. 1lb lobster which was just the right size. and might i add... best mudslides everrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! best part...not overly priced like most seafood places.

Today we came to the Barn for lunch and found the ambience to be great. The bread that they gave us before the meal was delicious, and we quickly asked for a second order. We bought a seafood combo which sounded delicious but when we got it the scallops were extremely greasy, the shrimp were not fresh and the fries were burnt. Overall the food was ok, but the building itself was nice.

Lobster pie is amazing. I came here once before on a business trip and had the lobster pie. Now I'm back here four months later and having the lobster pie again and I'm very happy. Their food is extremely consistent, tasty and the lobster pie is a must try!!

This will be the first time we've written about a restaurant without actually dining there -- though there have been a few occasions when we devoutly wish we had done so -- and we beg your indulgence for our brief explanation and warning. We arrived at 5:45pm on a mid-week day in late April, not exactly high season. We were (not) greeted by a youthful host who dutifully ignored us and several other couples who walked in about the same time. Really. No greeting at all. He looked bored and uncomfortable. We quickly found out why. "We've got only two waitresses tonight, so it will be at least five minutes before there's a table," he announced in a surly voice. All of us waitees, however, could see at least two open tables and a pair of scurrying waitresses. One of them passed by us carrying a tray and announcing to no one in particular "the kitchen is really backed up." Are you readers of this little notice getting any messages at this point in the narrative? We were, though now an older woman arrived to assist the host. She provided us waitees with small chips and advised that it might be more than five minutes for seating. No mention of the open tables, though it may be that the waitresses were too busy to have anyone else seated. Regardless, neither the host or his colleague ever lifted a finger to help the staff. After another five minutes, one of the couples who came in with us left. Five minutes later we did the same. Was the food good? Was it worth the price? Did the host ever discover a personality? Did those people who continued to wait ever get seated? We'll never know. And we'll never be back. We think that ought to be a caution for other potential diners at The Barn. Caveat emptor. And wait until the summer season!

Closed for the season even though sign says open all year. They used to be open all season but clearly something changed and now they closed. We called their number and they say they are closed for the season. With they took down the sign saying they were open all year - would take them five minutes.

Nice ambience. Average price. Great staff. Subpar food. I got the fried combo platter. The gulf shrimp is actually fried salad shrimp and not the regular size shrimp that I was expecting. The scallop is very small like dwarf sized. I personally would not order this again. Maybe if they lower the price on this dish because hey should not charge regular price for this kind of seafood.

So I used to come here with my family when I was about 10 years old. I don't know if it changed ownership or not during that time..but we had a much different experience. The food is..ok..we ordered clam chowder (super watery not good), three lobsters which were ok, and onion rings which were ok. The staff was friendly but the atmosphere is...kind of like a biker bar. They have outdoor firepits and horse shoes etc but we wanted to leave as soon as we got there. There are not a lot of places to sit and eat. We found a place and while we were eating some woman who was pretty drunk said "do you think my a** is fat? Look at it!" And started to pull her pants down a little and her friend pushed her away. And then another drunk woman came by our table and said "oh are those for me??" And took an onion ring..lol what!?! And then we saw another woman drop a glass beer bottle on the floor by our table and walk away and a man picked it up and ran after her calling her a "B" and all sorts of names... Maybe it was an off night..we like a fun drinking crowd but we felt like a fight may break out...

Dropped in on the last night of the season, very busy, but Charlie asked me to come in to the bar & eat there. She was very efficient and friendly. Great food & service. third time I have been there & this was the best. Good rustic atmosphere. Will defiantly come back. Keep up the good work!

My husband and I stopped by the Barn for mussels. We had not been there in several months; but as always the mussels were a great deal and yummy, but the service was terrible!! We had to ask for another drink, we had to ask to order additional food, we had to ask for the bill and we could not even get the bartenders attention to pay the bill. We would have ordered dinner, but we just gave up. The two bartenders were very attentive to the locals, but not to us. We have been to the Barn many other times with no problem with the service and I have never written a review before, but my husband was so furious to calm him down I agreed to write one. We live locally, we are both in the food business and we were both very disappointed.

I think I should have avoided this place from the start as "family restaurants" are usually very disappointing to begin. Now I am trying to rate this place in reference to being a "family restaurant." Here's the good first, the prices were reasonable and the portions were decent. Here's the bad, the food was either bland or was made to have taste with some very harsh sauces. To say the waitresses were a little rough around the edges would be a compliment. This would be about 2.5 stars if i could do it. Why? Well it's not good but its not horrible either. This restaurant is situated in a tourist section, which is why I rated it low compared to other family restaurants. The food really needed to be much better, I am not sure how they survive in this area with the product they are putting out. I think a retired population would like this place because of the price and portion but for the rest of you I would recommend by passing this place, there are plenty of other restaurants in York.

Came back this year for our annual Ogunquit trip this year as a group of 10 and had a very different experience. When we walked in and told the hostess we had a party of 10 she looked panicked and annoyed even though the restaurant was pretty empty. It was February in Ogunquit... The waitress was even worse once we were seated she took one look at us and was all angst and attitude all night. I fully understand that big parties and split checks are probably a pain but seriously. She got cranky when we asked to split the check even though we were trying to be nice about it. She gave one of us attitude when the asked for a loaded baked potato. She said "i can give you a tub of sour cream on the side...." A couple of us had questions on the menu and were scared to ask. The food quality was also way down from the year before I feel like we got less food for more money. We probably won't be back since so many of us did not enjoy the food. The Dark and Stormy was strong and delicious that earned them 1 star.

Awesome place. Christine took great care of our 15 person group. Bagpipes were played (visiting group). Great food, wide selection. Something for everyone! Good prices!

Decent place. It's a little dark inside but it has character. Our waittress was very friendly but my son wasn't really loving the attention and she didn't get the hint. The chowder was ok, the chicken fingers were tasty. The steak tips had a good char on them and my wife enjoyed her lobster roll w plenty of tail meat. OK is the perfect rating. Wasn't great, wasn't awful. A-OK. House Root Beer was tasty too.

We have been here (in the bar area) three times in the last month - simply because it was convenient to where we were staying. The first time, the food was cold and overcooked and the service was AWFUL! We waited fifteen minutes before the waitress came over. Our drinks came quickly, ad did the food. We then had to track the waitress down 15 minutes after we finished eating to get our check. The second time the service was just as bad, but the food was a bit better which is why we went back for a third time. The LAST time, and I do mean LAST, the waitress was pretty much nonexistent, in over her head with both tables. We had to track her down to order and to get our check and she never checked to see how our food was after someone else had brought it to us. We will not be back.

Stopped in around 730pm after a visit to yorks wild kingdom. Hostess was nice but when we were seated the waitress who was serving the section was pissed. She announced loudly that she had 3 tables and would not serve us. The hostess explained there was no other place to seat us. This conversation was a immediate turn off. It should of been taking out of customers earshot. Luckily, we had another waitress who was happy to serve us. The salads were fresh and included cranberries. My chowder was NOT good it was very runny, to much pepper, with a good amount of clams and potato, my boyfriends boiled lobster was good but his steamers were minimal and 3 out 6 were missing the mussel. My baked stuffed lobster was delivered with cold stuffing. When it returned my family had finished eating. They did nothing to compensate it was mediocre at best

This restaurant came recommended by our hotel. The atmosphere is really nice for family or with friends. Not for a romantic dinner. Obviously no views on rt 1. Service was incredible. Didn't expect that. The house bean soup was really good. House bread seemed like a nice treat, but dense & dry. The baked scallops sounded like they'd be delicious... But pretty disappointing. We would give this place a 2nd chance, maybe we just ordered the wrong things.
