Complete tourist trap! $26 for a butter dish-sized order of fried scallops. $9 for a basket of Burger King-style frozen-I repeat-frozen onion rings. $19.00 for a basket of tiny popcorn Seamonkey-sized fried shrimp. Left 90% of it on the greasy table. I can't tell you if their coleslaw is any good because the waitress never brought it; even though I paid four dollars for it. You pay up front so you're screwed and can't get your money back. There are some rough-looking customers working there, so I didn't want to make a fuss for fear they'd take me out back and hit me over the head. All these "good" reviews absolutely have to be family, friends and/or employees of the joint! Avoid-avoid-avoid!

For the 20-ish years my parents have been taking me and my sister to OOB, it's been a tradition that at least one night of our usual week-long trip be the designated Lobster Night. My folks used to buy live 2-3 pounders at the local farm stand and a bushel or two of steamers, and we'd boil 'em up ourselves in the cottage. A few years ago, they finally threw in the towel and realized the convenience of not cooking, so the tradition was changed to dining out for Lobster Night. That way, the mess stays behind for someone else to deal with once we're all in buttery lobstery food comas. At the Lobster Claw, there's all types of lobster decor covering the walls, which adheres to the honky-tonk atmosphere you come to OOB to experience. Once you've made your way past the red & white striped lighthouse, you order and pay for your food & drink at the window, similar to how you would at an ice cream stand. You then seat yourself at the picnic tables outside or in, and wait for your feast to be delivered. The average plate is about $22, but they give you a ton of food (baked potato or fries, coleslaw or corn, cheap rolls of bread, warm drawn butter, etc. in addition to your main course) and it's all scrumptious! Leave a cash tip on the table and you're set to go home and nap for hours. I'd give it 5 stars, but I'll always be a sucker for eating lobster in the comfort of my own home in PJs. Dining out can get messy, despite the abundance of Wet-naps they give you. You're bound to splash at LEAST one drop of butter on yourself, so don't wear your finest garb!

We really enjoyed dinner. The lobster roll was wonderful (as other reviewers have said), the fried clams were delicious, the portions were huge and the wait staff was very helpful and nice. It also had a large beer, wine and mixed drink list.

used 2 love this place...double/triple lobsters. But then noticed lobsters were "pre cooked" then just thrown in boiling water for a few mins when i ordered. just made me concerned about freshness. haven't gone back in like 5 yrs too afraid.

Great food (we were tourists, so I'm not going to battle over the best lobster roll ever or anything). I had a lobster roll, my husband had the stuffed lobster, and we were both more than satisfied. A great selection of draft beer, too. We were there in a weekday evening in June, so it was not especially crowded or loud and service was prompt and friendly.

How have I not reviewed this place??? OMG!!! My hubby and I will drive over an hour just to go here and back for lunch. It's amazing. The service is great, the portions are huge and let me repeat...we DRIVE TO MAINE from MA just to go to here...and we have done this on multiple occasions and sometimes with an entourage of equally crazed friends who loved a good fried shrimp!!! Their beer selection could be better...start serving Harpoon, but really who cares. Worth the trip, worth the money, worth the calories.

Yummy, reasonable pricing. I had a yummy lobster dinner, my son had a steak (go figure), other members of our party ordered the clam cakes and we were all happy at the end. We came in a bit late and they had the doors open so we were slightly uncomfortable due to being eaten by mosquitoes- this place is a very laid back place, not fancy at all. Walk up to order window and pay then sit and wait for food. The delivery of the food was a little slow...

$10.99 steam clams( clean, tasty,+ served with real butter)! Tammy- my server, even helped me with the locals scoop on Old Orchard Beach!

This was a very disappointing meal... The lobsters were in no way a pound. They were small chick's for 16.95 with very little meat inside. I ordered the fried clams. There were 6 bad ones at the start of the meal. It took our waitress 20 minutes to come back so I could tell her. She brought out the cook and he said sometimes lobsters can be bad too. Okay, I wasn't eating lobster I was eating bad clams for 22.95. They gave me back 10.00. We will never eat here again! VERY EXPENSIVE AND THEY DON'T STAND BEHIND THE FOOD....

Love this place!. Friends visit from NH and I always take them there. Martial is a doll. Always great service!

No frills fried seafood restaurant that's a favorite of locals and tourists alike. After completing an open-water swim at OOB late in the day in preparation for the upcoming Rev3 (also in OOB), me and Miss Mary were looking for a bite on our way out of town. I Yelped lobster rolls and came up with The Lobster Claw. The lobster rolls were a bit skimpy, although I had claw meat in mine (Mary didn't). The kicker was the excellent homemade cole slaw and waffle fries. Not what I expected at all. The clam chowder was decent, too. I noticed the shore dinners people were ordering looked great and they have a cute outdoor eating area.

  • Monica L.

Upping my rating to four stars. Today, the atmosphere seemed improved -- the new outside deck is nice, the service was great, and the food was very good. I had the baked haddock and the broiled sea scallops combo. The only problem was that they put both in one dish which wasn't good since they come with different sauces. The sauces were mixed, so I then not only couldn't try both, I actually wasn't able to try either as it should have been. I'd recommend getting one or the other but not the combo. The coleslaw was fresh and delicious, and the waffle fries were great (especially with white vinegar). I'd go back.

Had the fried shrimp platter. It was really good. The staff was very friendly and quick to respond. The portions were a good size to match the price. I would eat here again.

  • Colleen W.

Don't be fooled by their menu and signage about the two-for-one margaritas. It is two for the price of two.

  • JJ E.

Clam chowder was amazing and to top it with a clam cake was just filling. Great service

  • Becca S.

I was really disappointed. The reveiws here made me believe I was in for a treat, but the food was mediocre at best. The baked, stuffed lobster was 85% cracker crumbs soaked in butter, 10% shredded cheddar cheese, and maybe 5% lobster (which was a little undercooked--yuck!). I pretty much had greesy cheese and crackers for diner. Ribs were tolerable but fatty. And calamari was the size of onion rings (ew) and tough. Maybe it was an off night, but I will NOT be going back.

  • Holly L.

Was doing the touristy thing and really wanted some seafood while near the ocean. My fiancé and I ordered the seafood platter and a couple clam cakes. The platter was HUGE! We opted for the one with the lobster, so yummy. The clam cakes were not the average, they were literally cakes (similar to a Maryland crab cake). Accustomed to my round bundles of tastiness I wasn't much a fan of those particular clam cakes. In their defense when I ordering I was informed they weren't run of the mill. I would suggest this place to any one headed that way.

    (4)
  • C H.

Had the fried Haddock which was not Haddock and knowing this being a fisherman on cape cod. The Potato skins were the thickness of a quarter. My sister had the haddock also and agreed that it didn't taste like haddock. I guess if your a fan of Lobster which most of the reviews are then that ok, But I was not impressed!

I had a great lunch here during my visit to Funtown Splashtown USA. Very friendly staff, reasonable prices, and great food. Their waffle fries are huge!

Clam chowder and French onion were outstanding. Had the stuffed lobster...all I can say is omg!! A must do!!

While on family vacation, this was the first place we decided to go for dinner. My wife had a steamed lobster and said it was very good. My son had chicken fingers which were good. I ordered fish and chips and it was pretty good. It was very fresh and good quality fish. I would go back again.

Slow service. The waitress explained the 3-person kitchen staff were cramped in a small kitchen working on a $300 take out order. In a 1/3 full restaurant, one large order shouldn't be any different than a 2/3 full restaurant. Besides isn't the kitchen small every night? A couple arrived 5 minutes after us and received everything from chilled wine and appetizer and then dinner long before we received ours. Clearly our waitress was just not keeping up. It was their last night open so we understand that this can be an awful grind for all staff- just get through the night and the season is over. But we didn't know that walking in and expected better food and better service. Clam chowder was the star of the night. Nice and creamy, full of clam, potatoes, seasoned well-it was thoroughly enjoyable. Another star was the cole slaw- some of the finest I've tasted and I'm from Dutch country where cole slaw is a religious experience. We ordered #11, the seafood platter for two. The shrimp were so small, mushy and flavorless that I thought Gortons was the chef. Truly, they looked like breaded shrimp but I'm not sure what I was actually eating. The fried clams were decent fried clams. The breading was not greasy and that was a bonus. The lobster was juicy and fresh. We're in Maine. Anything less than that and I would have to take away another star. The waffle chips were very good. I ate a lot of waffle chips. I kept finding them when I went looking for decent shrimp. I also found them in the tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. It was their last night of the season. It was our last night eating there.

Love this place. People are friendly more of a "local" feel. Been going here for years whenever in New England. Worth the trip.

  • Randi R.

It is the last night they are open for the season. The service is slow. The food came out lukewarm. They were out of a number of items. Perhaps it is good mid season. This disappointed us

Was there today for my yearly birthday lobster treat. Ordered baked stuffed. Pretty near perfect. Baked lobster can be dry. Not this. Stuffing and lobster meat were great. Moist, delicious! Waffle fries are excellent but the topper is their homemade cole slaw. Not too much mayo. Nice sized shreds of cabbage. Excellent! Very fair 20 dollar price tag for this feast. Very personable and attentive service. This has the feel of a real lobster shack which is the perfect setting. Thanks for today's great meal Lobster Claw.

  • Mary F.

if I could give zero stars I would. this review is about the service: my girlfriend called in relation to business and some said ""if you call again, I will come find you and shoot you"" no one should be okay eating at an establishment that hires workers who would say something of this nature. that was verbal assault and triggering!!!!!!!!!

    (1)
  • Stephanie M.

Not a fancy setting but chowder was excellent and lobster rolls were pretty good. Plus they were very fast and affordable. I would recommend stopping for lunch on your way up north. Service was attentive and friendly as well. Nice little spot.

  • Salvy D.

Steamers while a bit sandy were nicely sized and not too big...lobster Mac n cheese was tasty as was the lobster pie. The haddock on the other hand really didn't taste all that fresh to the mar that had it broiled and to my daughter that had it fried. Waitress was very nice. Indoor dining room was really dimly lit.

    (3)
  • Joe F.

You generally great good tasting seafood here, but proportions on the fisherman's platter (or plate) can be disappointing with the scallops. The last platter I got had about 5 medium sized scallops. It seems to be an on and off thing, possibly depending on who's cooking. The flavor is good, but if you get it to go, be sure to eat it soon so it doesn't steam and puff up. It's not just as good that way! And the waffle fries are always awesome. Additionally, there's no view, but the dining area is comfortable enough.

  • Sam S.

Popped in here on a whim yesterday and loved it. Amongst the orders were steamers, a clam plate, a lobster roll and a fishermen's platter. We loved everything. The stars were the fries, cole slaw and the batter on the seafood. The batter was different than other seafood places and we all loved it. They even gave us dog bowls for the pups. The one thing that was annoying was that we felt like they were trying to up sell us on things. 'Two orders of steamers, get the platter for two, you should get the dinner lobster roll,' etc. Regardless, we will be back!

  • Lawrence G.

Whenever we are in this area, we try to hit this place. It is a seasonal restaurant so don't count on it outside the standard tourist season for coastal Maine (not sure what the months are here but we've been disappointed to find it closed off-season). Absolute top dish is the scallops. Fisherman's platter easily feeds two people. Don't dress up, and know that there is only limited seating with A/C, lots of additional seating on screened porches and back deck. Waits for dinner can be long. You order at the counter and then take a ticket to your table. Wait staff are helpful and friendly.

    (4)
  • Jeffery B.

A little over priced, but great food! We like that it's a little out of the way and therefore not as busy as places along main drags. The drinks were great and the selection was excellent to choose from. We will likely be back at some point this summer!

    (4)
  • Robin K.

All in all we found the food a little under-seasoned... a little salt could have really worked wonders on the onion rings, clam chowder, haddock plate, and the lobster roll. This aside, the food was still good and the atmosphere (or lack thereof) made it easy for kids. In all fairness, we are from NY and things tend to have a bit more seasoning because we are not so close to the ocean, at least this might be a fair statement.

One of the best lobsters I have ever had in Maine. The clam chowder is pretty good.

I just can't figure out why all of these reviews are so generous. We felt every aspect (except for the counter lady) of this window-service, cafeteria concession was disappointing. 3 of us ordered our meals and sodas - $90. They encourage you to leave a tip at time of food purchase for the "service" you receive from the grouchy older lady in the canteen part of the restaurant. She was actually the only thing you could call "fresh" in that place, as she didn't mind saying whatever she felt the customer deserved. To say the food was overpriced is being kind. It all tasted the same, and was not all crispy. Soggy. Another seafood stand that doesn't like to change the oil often. The restaurant is actually on the ground. The indoor dining floor is actually a screened in ground. Its a remarkably bad way to spend almost $100. Too bad I couldn't afford the beer after paying for the meals. I needed something to feel better about the money I threw away. Go to Skippers in Saco - trust me on this!! The LCPR is way more visible to travelers, but Skippers is worth following Route One a little further into Saco for.

We recently stopped in here on Labor Day weekend for a seafood meal. We drove by earlier in the day, and it looked promising. When we arrived, I was surprised that it is an order at the counter restaurant and was not a sit down w/ service. Well. its both. We ordered at the counter, and a waitress brings it over and checks in frequently. Thanks to Yelp.com , I ordered the famous "stuffed lobster" which was a fantastic choice, even at $20.00. Hubby got the fish and chips, and it was very fresh and a very hearty portion. Service was good. The dining area was a bit dirty and tired looking. The men's room hot water did not work. Only a trickle came out. Prices were not cheap. Just be aware.

    (4)
  • Paula G.

Pricey for sure, but recently found that the Fisherman's Platter for 2 to be the best bang for your buck. Fried clam strips, shrimp (the little Maine ones), scallops and haddock for $30, along with waffle fries, coleslaw and rolls. This could have easily fed 3 people. The haddock is always great here, and I was surprised how good the scallops were. Drink prices are ridiculous. They are usually pretty fast getting food to you though.

  • Kimberly M.

Loved loved and loved the stuffed lobster. I got that the first time and was so in love that I went back two days later. I decided to get the lobster, steamers, corn combo. I wish I just got the stuffed lobster again but still enjoyed my seafood. I found this place by reading reviews when I was at a local waterpark and happy I did. Why I gave it 4 stars and not 5, is really because of the price. While I think the stuffed lobster was worth every penny $20, I did not think the seafood combo w/1lb lobster, corn and a handful of steamers was worth $25/$26. The price of lobster is cheap for the most part and I just felt a tad disappointed by that. Make sure you tip the folks delivering your food.

Lord knows there are thousands upon thousands of restaurants to get a decent lobster in the great state of Maine, and The Lobster Claw is, well, one of them. Though that is a pretty piss poor observation, it is merely stated as I have not frequented nearly as many different lobster joints as I perhaps should have in my lifetime of family sojourns to the great "Vactationland" state. Regardless, this particular eatery is both inviting and entirely worth a trip for a taste. Although I only really started enjoying lobster a few years back, I can say that this place does have the best baked stuffed lobster dinner I've tried since my first foray into this tasty dish. Every August since 2010, I have enjoyed the #8 special, the baked stuffed lobster. Having just had my third #8 in as many years earlier this evening, I can tell you I am stuffed to the gills and happy as a clam and... (insert however many other lame, sea-fearing analogies you wish). The tail was entirely stuffed with meat. So much meat it was overwhelming! Succulent though. The body was not that full of lobster meat but was well meshed with the heaven-sent cracker and cheese crumbles. Someone stop me! Yes, I wore the dumb bib. And yes, I still managed to get some nasty juicy stains on my nice polo shirt. I guess everyone's a slob whilst eating lobster. Could you please pass the wetnap? I saw a few reviews here that were jive-talking the staff. I find those comments to be foolish, unsubstantiated drivel. The only problem I had was that when my diet coke went dry I had to wait awhile before our waitress made her way so that I could kindly ask for a refill. But you know what? I didn't die of thirst. I didn't even consider the possibility! So, there you go. All is well. My sisters both had a clam chowder appetizer and I tried it. Freakin' delicious. Get it. Get it now. Dad had a vegetable lasagna and he said it was great. Wee ones had chicken fingers and enjoyed them as much as wee ones can enjoy chicken fingers, I imagine. It's kinda the staple food for the wee. The restaurant itself is just kinda whatever. It's indoors but it's outdoors but it has a roof but it has no floor but whaaaat? It's fine. Shut up and eat your scrum-diddily-umptious meal. The men's room door looks like it locks but be careful. It doesn't. And if someone walks in on you, the door opens right out into a full view of someone else's dinner table (in the bar area). Yowsa. Well, at least the toilet seat was broken. Ha! I mean eww. Don't go there. I'm sure they fixed both those issues by the time you're visiting. Did they? Gosh golly! I am just now realizing that "The Lobster Claw Pound & Restaurant" is a somewhat disturbing name. Is the word "pound" a tongue-in-cheek reference to a dog pound? If so, boo. Not a fan. I try not to look at the lobster tank as I walk in. Glutton! Thy name is hypocrite! Indeed. All apologies and thanks to that poor, delicious, buttered crustacean.

If I wanted to order an overpriced chick lobster from a window and eat it in rustic conditions I would go to Hannaford and pay six bucks to steam me one and eat it in the pahkin lot at the employees smoke picnic table out back. Total tourist trap.Hugely overpriced.

oh boy, you don't want to come here if you like good Lobster. when they first opened long, long ago.. they were fair at best. But in the last 5 years they have destroyed what reputation they had with poor (and at times hostile) service, over priced and poorly prepared lobster. i mean you can roll the dice that they won't serve you bad food.. but once you pay.. you can't send it back. The last time we walked out of this insect den and got our money back with plates that were so burnt and ridiculous - that we "dared" the kids who run this shack to eat it. The tables are sticky and unsanitary. I don't know how anyone who wrote a "real" review could call this place good.

Everytime we are in Maine, we make sure to stop by and visit! So delicious.... have been tempted to make the drive from CT to ME for a bite to eat exclusively here! Did I mention delicious??!!

LOVE LOVE this place! We visit here every year when we go on vacation and we are never disappointed. Food is fabulous. If you are craving fried food, clams with bellies, and HUGE portions this is the place! On our recent trip last week we got clam plates (huge) fish and chips (good size), lobster (delicious) and my 9 year old son who is NOT a seafood person got a burger which he loved. If you go on the weekend plan on a long wait after 5pm.... We went on a friday about 3pm, perfect no wait we were in and out. Its pricey but you get what you pay for. The only odd thing was refills on drinks are free EXCEPT ice tea that u have to pay a $1.00 a glass, kinda strange. ANother hidden treasure we cant wait to go back next year!

  • Donna R.

Very pricey for a pick-your-dish-from-the-picture-menu on the board outside. Woman at counter was a bit on the rude side. Drove 35 minutes to get to this restaraunt or we would have left. Will not return there, ever and would not recommend this restaraunt to anyone.

  • Sean P.

Service was good. Nothing special about this place when compared to similar pounds in the area. $65 for a small order of steamers, lobster roll (on the small side), and double 1 1/4 lobster diner. I think I still got 1 lb'ers even though I paid for the 1 1/4.

  • Karen C.

What can I say...Haddock is the freshest around and the clams are fabulous...if you like clam cakes, try Bob's homemade ones...oh and rhetorically coleslaw is not overdressed...enjoy---we always do :-)

  • Atno S.

Decent place for seafood, but don't try to surf and turf it. They must have the most rubberest cows in all of Maine. That's what I get for being Sacrilegious in a seafood joint, i must have picked a good lobster day.

Fabulous homemade coleslaw, tartar sauce, batter. Huge delicious fried clams!!

  • Shavrene B.

How do you say 'yum' in Maine-speak? The Lobster Claw!! Frigging delicious. Nothing fancy, booths and picnic tables, you order from the kitchen, seat yourself and the server for that area brings your food, drinks and whatever else you need. (don't forget to tip!!) But boy oh boy are they good!! The first night hubby and I went ( so good we did it twice!!) we had the fishermans platter dinner for two: clam bellies, shrimp, two halves of a lobster, slamming coleslaw and kick @ss waffle fries. Plus two for one margaritas. Damage? $45!! We are greedy and didn't even finish all the food. Today we did it simple: 2 lobster dinners that came with waffle fries and coleslaw ( you can do boiled or baked potatoes) and melon mojitos. Delicious!! Don't kid yourself and not go here, value and a crazy good meal.

Watch out for the clawwww!!! raaaaa!! ...in a good way of course... me and some friends went to Old Orchard Beach which is 20 minutes outside of Portland and we found this gem! We randomly found their menu in the home we were staying at and we decided to give it a try. It was exactly what we were looking for, nothing fancy but a good home cooked meal by some of the locals there. This lobster was super good, they know how to cook it, and they are right there cooking it, you can see them throw the live lobster in the pot and you can hear them scream. Not very loud... so it's not too scary... but man they cooked the lobster to perfection. Get this, the lobster was only $14. Juicy, succulent... I would def come here again. We also had the fried scallops and haddock and our friend had a lobster roll... This place is deli--- shouuuusss... mmm, mmm, good.

After reading all the reviews, I was still craving stuffed lobster. I had gone to ken's for lobster 2nights before, it was just ok and only other stuff on menu for wife was all fried seafood. At lobster claw they had many other alternatives to seafood. We both ended up with the stuffed lobster, cracker crumb stuffing with scallops and crabmeat!!, My wife is allergic to scallops and because they make all their own food from scratch, they were able to leave it out and gave her extra crab!! There was also some different sides beside fries and corn. You could have boiled potatoes, beets, coleslaw, sweet potatoes fries and others. The wait staff was very efficient, friendly and helpful. Definitely would o there again. They said thy had been in business over 40 years, place is a little dated but cute!

The Lobster Claw has THE best Fish and Chips in Maine, hands down. If you're looking for some delicious, fresh beer battered fish and fresh cooked waffle fries, this is the place for you!

This was the best lobster roll I've ever had, and that's coming from someone whose family has lived on Cape Cod since 1977. Giant, sweet chunks of lobster meat throughout--none of the mushy "lobster salad" with a couple of pieces of claw on the top you tend to find at so many other places. Very casual. Onion rings are quite good and they give you a choice between thick or thin cut. Sadly we were only there briefly and just for lunch, but I'd consider making the drive again just for the lobster roll--it was *that* good.
