Born-and-bred in Lewiston I have come to know Chick-a-dee as an area legend. My second grade teacher used to talk about how she would come to this restaurant in the Turner location every week for a delicious meal. Unfortunately, the Lewiston location falls short. Everyone loves their comfort food, but with changing times means a changing menu. Mostly everything is fried and mundane with a lack of fresh options. I do enjoy their haddock, though...

This was our first time here as a result of waiting too long to secure reservations on graduation weekend. Based on some reviews I was expecting a very poor experience. But once you accept that this is not fine dining, or award winning cuisine, it really is a decent option. The atmosphere is very simple but not offensive or completely sterile. There's a cozy little bar and quite a lot of dinner seating. We had a large party which seems to be somewhat of a specialty of this place. The menu offers lots of standard fare seafood and of the twelve of us I didn't hear any complaints except that one person got medium steak tips instead of medium rare. I had the baked haddock special which was smothered in veggies. It was not the most appetizing presentation but it was enjoyable. One complaint I had as a beer drinker was that they had an IPA on the menu but informed us that it had been dropped, leaving no IPA choice available. These days that seems like an uninformed decision especially with one of the best IPA's in the region made right in town (Baxter). Otherwise, the service was prompt and very friendly. I would revisit and hope they wake up on their beer menu. Your review helps others learn about great local businesses.

Whenever we come visit Lewiston we never miss having a lobster roll at Chick -a-dees! Great value with friendly service! The lobster rolls are stuffed! The chicken tenders are very good too! Fresh French fries-not frozen! Kayla was a great waitress! Very sweet and attentive!

Our family gather went long and before we knew it dinner time was upon us. I called on a Sat night to put in a reservation. In about an hour we headed over with over 22 people. They seated us in the back room. We weren't crowded and the place still had many guests in other parts of the restaurant. As with other family reunions it was a bit crazy with people mingling and mixed about but they still managed to split our checks, keep them correct, got the food out hot and on time so the kids weren't starving. Lobster rolls, prime rib on the weekends, clams, veggies, huge pieces of cheesecake. Everyone left happy, full and really enjoyed themselves. My mom was drooling over the prime rib she saw so she convinced my brother to bring her back the next day so she could get her own. Thank you for making a special occasion special!

There are already a lot of comments on the interior, so I don't feel I need to revisit it. Often, we need a close place to purchase a decent lobster roll. This particular night, I felt like fried food. I can't comment on the lobster rolls, since I didn't try them. My guests liked them. I had the fried combo of Maine shrimp and clam strips (I'll admit, I avoid the bellies, until I know a place can really make them without the grit left behind from a poor cleaning). I got the lunch portion with green beans and a baked potato. So, let's do this: 1) Green beans: Be warned, they are canned. I could taste my childhood. Oh, and there was a hair in them that wasn't mine. 2) Baked potato--it was a whole, uncut potato. Nothing else with it--no sour cream, no butter. Nothing. It was also overcooked. 3) Shrimp. Soggy and not de-veined. Yes, I took a picture 4) Clams. Instead of the strips, I was given the whole bellied clams. They were soggy, with a seriously high batter-to-clam ratio. And, you guessed it, gritty. So, all-in-all, this was a seriously disappointing, soggy mess of an incorrect order. I would say to go in with low expectations and you may just be pleasantly surprised. Hint: I was not.

First Look: the interior of The Chick-A-Dee is something approaching an upscale Cafe, mixing the decor of low scale fancy and the atmosphere of the an up scale Cafe or diner. The service was prompt and upbeat and wearing the most confusing combination of apparel. The owner or manager was in khaki shorts and a Polo while the wait staff were sporting jeans and black shirts. The menu was widely varied, perhaps too much so. Almost half of the menu is either fried or cooked in some kind of butter, the rest were nothing particularly exciting. The food descriptions we're wanting and hardly deserve the name. The waitress was very sweet but was not able to satisfactorily answer any of my questions about the menu. The Food: The "Caesar" salad is a house salad with Caesar dressing, the rolls were pre-packaged and not fresh, and the green beans were canned. The baked haddock was decent and the seafood stuffing on top was okay and added some sweetness to the dish but realistically the stuffing over powered what should have been the star of the dish. The lobster sauce that came with the entree was advertised to me as rich and over powering, but was in truth almost flavorless. The Verdict: I don't think there is a situation where Chick-A-Dee could redeem itself in my eyes. The service was good but the food is honestly some of the worst seafood I've had. For those of you that are looking for a great seafood experience, look elsewhere.

If you like fried seafood then this place will be fine. But what an awful thing to do to seafood. We were a group of 6 looking for good food as we were visiting. Maine from New Jersey. To of us ordered the lobster pied with crumb topping. Although the quality of the lobster was ok the dish lacked flavor and depth. The two orders came out very different as if two different cooks prepared the meal. On dish was overly greasy with too much butter. One dish was so dry there wasn't enough butter. One of the members of our group ordered chicken parm. (Something I would never order outside of NY/NJ). There was so much liquid at the bottom of the plate we asked for a bowl where we drained the dish of so much liquid the bowl was filled. The chicken was basically chicken fingers with cheese and sauce on it. It was sent back. A replacement dinner was offered but the diner said no thank you. We were told the price would be deducted but never was. On the other hand my husband's fried shrimp was just fine.

The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but the food, service and value are all awesome. Highly recommend unless you are looking for lots of atmosphere.

The Chick-a-dee has been a staple in Maine for some time now. They started out in Turner, ME and have since moved to Lisbon Street in Lewiston. They are very well known for their seafood dishes but their menu overall has great appeal to all ages and appetites. I had their fisherman's platter and you better have a big appetite for this dish because it piles almost 10 inches high with fried clams, shrimp, haddock, french fries, scallops and a side of coleslaw. Needless to say my eyes were bigger than my appetite and I took some of it home with me. This place is a great place for large gatherings and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Try it out yourself!!!

Agh this place sucks the way the exterior and interior looks it's horrible . The smell of the restaurant was disgusting so they need to do a lot of work I guess . I got steak with grilled veggies and ewww I felt I ordered melted oil didn't eat none of it . But there was this waitress name Jessamyn super nice and very professional she make sure I got what I really wanted and checking on us every 2-4 min very nice girl and had lots of humor . I think this place need renovation and needs more employees like Jessamyn And new chef .

The chickadee in my opinion is neither good nor bad. It's just... The chickadee. As previously mentioned.. It's a L/A institution and as such.. Having stood the test of time.. Deserves some sort of respect because it's still as busy as ever so they are doing something right. It's just a little too old school with their food for me.. As is much of the clientele. My SO thought the seafood was fresh and decent but prefers the coating elsewhere. My steak tips were very tender but lacking any color other than grey, which was a big turn off in an otherwise tasty dish.
