So sad that this church no longer operates as a church, but so wonderful that they have kept it opened and kept a lot of the original design and artifacts. The acoustics here are wonderful and the theater seating is very comfortable. I would recommend this place to any concert goer.

Ware Street Inn

Reviews:
I am a big, big fan of B&Bs, but I absolutely fell IN LOVE with this one. The Ware Street Inn is located on a quiet street in Lewiston, ME, just across from Bates College. Jan and Mike, the innkeepers, had kindly reserved the entire inn for our family, though, since we were all coming in from out of town for a wedding. They live on the property, with Jan running the day-to-day operations of the inn, and Mike doing general upkeep. Jan was constantly accompanied by two adorable (adorable!!!) shih tzus, Max and Sadie, with big buggy eyes and saucy little personalities. We stayed in Daisy's room ( warestreetinn.com/daisy.… ), which was a bright yellow and had a lovely view of the gardens and large plush lawn out back. The bathroom had a variety of soaps and shampoos for us to try out, and I think the bathroom alone was larger than my first apartment. There were four (or five?) other bedrooms with us on the top floor, some with their own bathrooms, and other sharing a bathroom on the hall. All of them had gorgeous views of the grounds, and if I remember correctly, Juliet's room had a little balcony. Jan woke up obscenely early to fix us breakfast, and even gave us options the night before - blueberry pancakes, homemade scones, fancy omelettes. Jan was also incredible in helping us plan day outings with the extended family, and just generally making us feel welcome!

Sam’s Italian Foods

Reviews:
I have lost track of how many Sam's I have been too but I will continue to write great reviews for them because my experiences are always great with them. The Main street one I believe is one of the original ones as it's the only business grandfathered and allowed to have a Billboard advertising their establishment. The have on street parking and off street parking adjacent to their building. They are in the process of expanding their dining room to accommodate more people. The last timeI was here I brought my Grandfather who loves spaghetti. We both had the spaghetti and meatball lunch plate which felt like a dinner plate with the portions they gave us. Spaghetti was cooked well, meatball melted in my mouth and their sauce was very flavorful. I did not even need to add any parmesan cheese just a little salt and pepper. It also came with a nicely toasted garlic buttered bread. Next time I visit Maine we are definitely doing lunch again here.

This franchise has a very friendly staff and their $5 hot and readys are great. It's conveniently located on Main Street, Route 202, in the same parking lot as Mardens. The manager at this establishment should be very proud of his/her workers.

This was a great place to eat! Yeah, it may seem like a bar dive to some, but if you pass it up, you will be disappointed. It's a very friendly place. When we arrived, a patron was very polite and let us know we seat ourselves and he said he would be happy to seat us for $5 and we all laughed. So I knew this was a relaxed and fun atmosphere :) Our waitress was very attentive and very polite and great with our kids. She brought them coloring books, while we waited for our food. They have dart boards and she let us know they have tournaments there, so if you have interest in that, check it out. They also have a pool table, which we plan on going back to play. Now the food was amazing! I got the Prime Rib - DELICIOUS!!! You know it's good when the rest of your party keeps stealing bites, but that was okay because I got a large piece. The butter squash was hot and sweet, just the way I like it and the fries were hand cut and you get a good amount!! The rest of my family got onion rings, mozzarella sticks , my daughters favorite :), which didn't last long - the Bacon Ranch Burger, which my son kept saying how yummy it was over and over again and my other son tried their Hogwings and just loved them. My husband got a burger as well and I asked him how it was, considering the last few times we've gone out, he's received dry burgers, he said it was great! So overall, I recommend checking this place out and I know we will be going back!! But, if you are looking at this place on appearance and decide to pass, you have no idea what you will be missing!
Ok , if you like great pub food this is the place. It is a bar so expect some bikers and such. My wife didn't want to go in but I did. In reviews we do not look at the people or the surroundings, unless it is extreme. The food was great. The prime rib.... Let's just says freakin' awesome. Hand cut fries, prices excellent. Will be back without the kids soon to play pool. If you are an up tight person this is not for you. However, if you like it very casual this is for you. Lastly, the waitress was attentive and very nice.
First time at Buddy T's! It's an awesome hole in the wall with great food great prices. I would recommend it to anybody that wants to just stop in and have a drink or go out and have a bite to eat. Don't let the outside for you it's a diamond in the rough.

Grant’s Bakery

525 Sabattus St
Lewiston, 04240
Reviews:
Good old-fashioned New England bakery. Doesn't have the all-natural vibe of, say, Ceres bakery in Portsmouth. It's more prosaic than that. But the whoopie pies, bismarks, creme horns are all delicious. And VERY reasonably priced. Like the kind of bakeries that were around in New England when I was a kid. You should stop by Grant's if you can. Recommended.
Where do I start with Grant's Bakery? Well they have been around longer than I have and despite their small appearance from the street their selection of items is quite plentiful. Every year for Christmas we get our meat pies from here, and if you don't know what that is you have to buy one and try it, because it's a Franco-american favorite. The have specials throughout the week and the bean supper special is great. Some of the best beans around and for a very reasonable price. If you have that sweet tooth they offer several options to take care of that craving and they can even build a cake your specifications. When you walk in you will smell all the baking goodness and that will definitely make you want to go back for more. Grant's has become a Lewiston staple and will be here for more decades to come.
This bakery has been around for a very long time and is still one of THE best places. I grew up going to this place when it was on College Street and still stop in each time I visit. However, now I come with a big order since I have all my friends hooked on this place. Yes there are bakeries all over but the stuff from the bakery at grocery stores are different. They have cakes, pies, and lots of goodies like Whoopie pies, cream horns, cookies, éclairs and more. Everything is baked fresh and I've called to place an order and they've made it up fresh for me. The fruit turnovers are great. Small crescent shapes filled with your choice of Blueberry, Raspberry, Apple which they mark with a letter on the top so you know when you pick up the B you are biting into Blueberry. I use to come back with a few things and my friends would try some things. Before I knew it I was bringing back an order for each of them. With bags of goodies over $100 people thought I was wacky. Little did they know it wasn't all for me. Saturday's is bean day so you can get salt pork and your choice of beans with brown bread. You can also place an order and have them ship certain things so this could be a nice surprise goodie package for those you love. Don't forget the Molasses cookies. They are soooo yummy!

Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shoppes

902 Lisbon St
Lewiston, 04240
Reviews:
Sam's is my favorite part of going home. Those sandwiches taste like home to me. Get any sandwich you want, smash some chips in there and enjoy. You are officially cultured to Lewiston/Auburn. There are locations all over the area so no matter where you are there is probably one near you. The people working are always so friendly. Oh, and don't forget to snag a whoopie pie.
Absolutely love this place. I'm there at least once everytime I go up to visit the family. The workers are always friendly and the food is amazing. Definitely one of the perks of being in Lewiston/Auburn area
There is nothing...NOTHING...that hits the spot like a Sam's ham italian with everything on it oil and vinegar. I am literally salivating just thinking about one right now. Maybe I'm being nostalgic since I grew up eating these my entire childhood, but I think it's just the best ever. I take back everything I ever said about reubens and bahn mis being my favorite sandwiches - those are still in the top three but when I recently took a bite of the Sam's ham italian I was reminded that THIS IS IT. The meatballs are also the best I've ever had. They're made with some combination of meat, probably parm and breadcrumbs, spices, love and magic. Even the best cooks in my family (and there are a lot of good ones!) agree that in all their years of making or eating meatballs these are by far the best! When you get a bite with the red sauce your head will explode from the pleasure. I need some now. Other things of note: housemade salad dressing is very good and they sell it by the bottles. I haven't had the pizza in 20+ years so no comment but I liked it when I was a child. Staff are usually very friendly making the ordering experience pleasant. Prices are very good. I bought lunch for myself, my sister, bro-in-law and two kids for around $30. Love this place and feel so lucky to have it right in my hometown. Other locations in Lewiston and Auburn have been equally as good, but this is the one we've gone to the most.

Italian Bakery Products

Reviews:
The fact that right when you walk into the Italian bakery, there is a sign that says "saturday beans" with a list of different types of beans/coleslaw/red hot dogs (a prized Maine food!) just squarely places you inside Lewiston Franco-American culture - and this is a good thing. I could never figure out why Lewiston has an "Italian" bakery - but I think it might be because they sell what we French-Canadians call "Italians" but what the rest of the U.S. would call a hoagie/grinder/sub. So, mystery solved? Maybe. I agree with the previous review - the Italian Bakery has The Best chicken pot pies, and also the best Salmon Pies (bless being Franco!!), which are available fresh on Fridays, or frozen otherwise . I grew up with the Grants' kids, so it's hard for me to bag on Grants Bakery - but I'd say they have amazing confections and that you should stick to Italian Bakery for your savory pies. I just love that this place exists. It's truly a cultural gem, and everything I've had from the Italian Bakery has been outstanding. I even brought a salmon pie (and some cretons!) home to Ohio for the boy and his brother to try... gotta represent!
I docked one to two stars because, as a person whose family owns a small, local business, I know how difficult it is to thrive in a setting of corporate chains. The thing that sets you apart is customer service, and good customer service at that. I come here quite frequently (weekly or so) and purchase relatively larger orders, mostly donuts, and take them to work for colleagues. I support the local Lewiston/Auburn businesses, farming community and markets, and enjoy my yearly CSA--because I know the impact that dwindling local businesses has to an area. I had finished an appt quite early on Saturday and figured I'd stop in to buy a cinnamon roll and breakfast sandwich (who am I kidding, and likely a dozen donuts). There was a line that wrapped around the back of the store to the register and a couple purchasing donuts. I asked the woman in front of me if I could order my donuts first (perhaps a separate line behind the couple?) as I thought that maybe the first line was for hot foods, desserts, etc. She didn't know, so I stood behind the couple purchasing the donuts and waited. And waited. And waited. They left, and I stood there. And waited some more. A nice gentleman came in behind me, pulled some beans out of the fridge and waited with me. I asked him if he knew whether I had to stand in line or I could order my donut(s) there first. He didn't know, either. I tried to get someone's attention in the store, and the young girl right.behind.the.counter avoided eye contact. Look, if I should be in line, please, someone tell me, don't avoid the woman who's 30+ weeks pregnant and sweltering. Ten minutes pass, and the line is nearly out the door, and the women who were in front of me are paying for their loaf of bread. Finally, I give up and leave. Mostly, because I don't think I'll be able to stand the heat in there for another 15 minutes, and this pregnancy isn't all rainbows and puppies like people have you believe. Maybe I'm at fault for not creating a scene or asking for a manager, or interrupting the already busy workers and patrons to ask, but I think I'm a dying breed who was raised with manners, and wouldn't intentionally cut in line--I just needed someone to ask me if I needed help and direct me to where I need to be. And I wasn't the only one clueless. If I was in the wrong, tell me, don't avoid me. I find that rude. Another option? Put up a sign for idiots like me. I ended up going to Grant's Bakery, where the goods are a notch below the Italian Bakery, but the customer service was much better. Even in a busy environment. In the end, maybe I won't go back there, because I've worked on both ends of the counter, and my time and money is valuable, too. I know one experience shouldn't taint a place, but more recently, my lukewarm interactions there have been disappointing. I don't like mornings any better than the next person. But, some of these scripted TV shows about saving restaurants have hit the nail on the head: your customers are what keep you afloat.
I go here once in a while but definitely They have the best donuts in LA! No joke, these are baked fresh every day and there so fresh and full of flavor. Must try the Boston Kreme and Coconut donuts.

You would never guess it by the location and appearance but this is actually one of the best Chinese food places around. I can't believe this place hasn't been reviewed yet. My father has been going here for years for take out. I lived in NY for four years and most of the take out places there were far below what we've come to expect from Golden City. Sesame chicken, general tso chicken and garlic chicken are the favorites in our family and the beef teriyaki sticks are excellent. Don't let the non-descript appearance stop you from trying out l/a's best kept Chinese food secret.
