Friend foods. Ordered lobster twins at a good price, but they weren't that great. Felt bad for the lobster that died in vain. Disappointed. My friends dinner was cold. We ordered water and had the choice of tap water or poland springs... maybe a step up from fast food? or not.

Great service. Very attentive and pleasant. All employees were very friendly. The bread provided were basic rolls that were too dry and the butter was too cold leaving us with very choppy bread. Nothing special so we only ate a few bites of our rolls. The fried clams, scallops, shrimp and fish were all very tender and juicy. Nicely done. The fries were ok. No spice on them at all and no special taste. Needed ketchup or something, because they were the kind of fries where salt doesn't stick to them very well. The tartar sauce was very good and tasted good on the fries! The baked shrimp, scallops, fish and lobster was ok. The seafood stuffing tasted very good, but over all, the platter was not worth the price. I had a few, very small scraps of lobsters that barely covered my fork. All of it tasted good, but presentation and value was horrendous, which was odd, because the fried platter was a tremendous value. Very, very large portion so the value was great. The portion of the lobster was as if it was scraps that they couldn't do anything with it and didn't want to waste it. Will we go back? Absolutely! Will I get the baked platter, again? Absolutely NOT!

Shellfish allergy again. So I always ask if the Weathervane can accommodate a shellfish allergy. And they always say no. Which is cool, because it's reasonable to expect that a small restaurant specializing in fried seafood may not be able to guarantee safety for this allergy. The few things I have been able to eat there have been good, the service is friendly and my friends rave about their dishes when we go during our annual Kittery shopping trip. I appreciate that the staff is always straight up about it and allows me to make the best choices for my own health. So, 3 stars!

Being very close to the ocean, this Weathervane Seafood Restaurant location serves great fresh tasting seafood, lobster dinners, chowders, salads, fried appetizers, land lover items (beef & chicken), and desserts. There is seating in the dining rooms, bar area high chair seating, and outdoor patio seating. I stopped in here for dinner on a busy summer night with mostly tourists and shoppers dining here. I ordered the Seafarer Bay Scallops Dinner ($6.95) with fries, sweet minced cole slaw and warm rolls, which is a half portion of a normal dinner, just the right amount of food for me. The golden fried Bay Scallops were very sweet & fresh and definitely tasted better here than at their other locations further inland. The fries, which were potato-y on the inside, could have used a few more seconds in the deep fryer. The service here was good and prompt. LOCATION: Weathervane Seafood Restaurant faces Route 1 and is in the same building as Weathervane's Original Shack on the north side. Just follow the painted yellow brick road between the two Weathervane businesses.

Came here with Davel today on our visit to the outlets. Came in, got seated in the corner (like always) and had a waitress name Justine who was very friendly and nice. Davel got the tips and strips which were steak tips and clam strips with rice pilaf. He didn't enjoy the tips because it was a bit weird tasting, and the rice was just bleh. I got the fish and chips and it was like any other fish and chips that I have had so it was nothing special. It was mediocre. The environment felt very homely because the furniture was as you'd expect in a home dining room. Overall, 'twas a good experience - may potentially come back to try other things if we ever visit the outlets again.

After a great morning of discount shopping, we were starving. Not wanting McDonalds or vending machine food, we asked the Yummies cashier for a food recommendation: "Well uh, there's not much around here.... You can sit down at Weathervane..." Not a glowing recommendation, but Dunkin Donuts wouldn't cut it, so we went to Weathervane. Um, super cute! Lots of paneled wood with fish shapes and boating decoration, complete with a giant lobster costume just begging to be worn and paraded up and down Rte 1. The hosts were eager to seat us and our waitress was as happy as sunshine. I ordered clam chowder and salad, and my friend ordered mussels steamed with a side salad. The salads were great. I know side salads aren't what defines restaurants, but these were awesome: full of crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers, and other fresh ingredients. The chowder was thick and piping hot, perfect for a cold winter day. Not too clammy tasting - the potatoes balanced the fish flavor perfectly. I found myself scraping the bowl with the complimentary rolls after the chowder was long gone.

Any seafood purist would scoff at this place. It's the kind of commercial establishment that makes New England fishermen's skin crawl. I get it. I also know that the fish here is delicious. And that you can get twin lobsters for $20 on Thursdays... and I'm pretty positive that they are just as fresh as any other lobster you'll find in this region of the country. I agree with anything negative you can say about going here instead of a mom and pop seafood place, but it's not a bad place to stop if you're in Kittery and want some fish.

There, I had a clam strip roll and french fries, and for dessert, a chocolate chip cookie sundae, and boy, were they delicious! I would go back there sometime later.

Ordered the clam chowder and it was luke warm. I have seen more clams in a can of Campbell's soup and it tasted more like cream of potato. I had a Lobster roll that was ok but not worth $14.95.The waitress was pleasant but I would not return.

This place was okay. We had lunch here with my parents. The food is your typical chain restaurant so no complaints. The atmosphere was kinda cool. I would have rather gone to a place that was more like Mom and Pop's.

In the age of smart phones and numerous aps (Yelp anyone?) why would anyone go to a restaurant specializing in mediocrity? Back in the day when you were on the road and you wanted a relatively inexpensive consistent option for lunch in New England this was always an option. In the modern world of connectivity there are so many more alternatives. If you must go to a weathervane there are a variety of appetizers that are palatable like the stuffed mushrooms and the seafood is of low end fish shack quality.

Thank you Weathervane, on my recent trip to Boston and the surrounding areas, I'm from California and don't really get a chance to have much lobster, so on this trip I had pretty much all the lobster I could. So I came on the right day by coincidence, and ordered the twin lobster special. A very nice price for a very nice meal! After finishing I knew I liked it but I didn't know when I left that day, that it would be the best lobster I'd had in the entire trip. Honestly, of the 3-4 other places I went to (one being a VERY expensive, supposedly high end fancy big-shot place) the lobsters from Weathervane were by far the tastiest. I came here not expecting too much from a chain restaurant, and I left with the best lobster of experience of my life. I don't know about the rest of the menu, there was a lot of fried seafoods around from what others had chosen that didn't look so appealing, but my lobster meal was great! Also, DONT get the Lazy man's lobster, my girlfriend (being a lazy woman - I love you babe) ordered this, and got lobster that was a lot less fresh and less delicious than my whole lobsters. It wasn't that hard to get the meat out, and well worth it.

I and a lot of my friends have eaten here a few times and the food was decent, however it's the take-out that is inconsistent and just plain awful. The only saving grace of ordering out is the person taking and giving us our order. They are always kind. Eating in is slightly better but not worth the wait nor the price.

Great place to eat if you are a seafood fan and you like it fresh! Their chicken isn't bad either! I like that they offer smaller portions at a lower price if you know you can't eat a lot, otherwise you get a lot of food!

Yesterday we came here for lunch during our last day in Maine. We ordered the stuffed lobster, the Captain's Choice and the kid's fish-n-chips. Good service and the food was yummy. It was a nice way to end our Maine trip =)

I've eaten here twice because by the time I get to Kittery I am ready for dinner. It's like this odd little rule on road trips to Maine. No, we can't stop until we're out of Mass. Ok, we're in New Hampshire, but let's keep going until we're in Maine (I mean what is there in New Hampshire, really)...cross the bridge, roll into Kittery...dinnertime! And there's the first non-chain you see: Weathervane. I ate at the bar the first time & had a lobster roll which was pretty good. Service was very friendly if a bit too chatty. Second time here was with the whole family and we sat in one of the rooms in the back. Service and food were both very good again. There is a skill claw machine in the front with Lobsters in it which is unusual and funny.

"Not good if you have kids with a nut allergy! Best part is they confirmed it was unsafe AFTER we ordered.. Waitress said was safe and then came back saying it wasnt. Should have just walked out. Food wasn't great either."

Completely shopped out and ready for a good meal, we checked out online reviews for Weathervane. We try to be careful about our menu choices so we were pleased to see some nutritional info online. We decided to give it a shot. While perusing the menu we saw they offered a "lighter version" of one of their "signature dishes"... the broiled seafood (salmon, scallops & haddock). We asked if it was just a smaller version ($12.99 vs $18.99) and were told "they're the same." Knowing that didn't sound right, nor was it what it said on the menu, we ordered it anyway, hoping for smaller portions. While we waited they brought rather unremarkable rolls & butter to the table. I might have been tempted if the rolls were warm, but they weren't. Just right out of the package. A short time later our dinners arrived. The mixed veggies were perfectly cooked and a good sized serving. The scallops were salty, the salmon was just okay, and the haddock was a bit overcooked. It's true... you get what you pay for, so the price was right. Would I be likely to go back to Weathervane on our next trip to Kittery? Probably not.

We went to Kittery to find a place to eat along Route 1, and from Portsmouth, the Weathervane is one of the first places you see. I hadn't eaten there since I was little, so I figured 'why not.' Maybe I watch too much Kitchen Nightmares, but I will NEVER visit a Weathervane again. First of all, they barely have anything that isn't fried on the menu. Good luck eating healthy there. The waitress brought us store bought rolls that weren't heated up, which wouldn't have been that big a deal except the butter was cold too. I ordered the Fish Chowder with a side of Sweet Potato Waffle fries. The fish chowder had to be canned, and had *maybe* 4 pieces of fish in it, each about the size of a kidney bean. The fries were unseasoned and I had to flag down the waitress to bring us something to dip them in. Both meal items were luke warm, which is surprising for how fast the food came out. Our waitress obviously hated her job and seemingly took it out on us. She took our order and immediately left. She dropped off our food and immediately left. She asked us how everything was while simultaneously asking if we wanted our check. She said nothing about the fact that I'd barely touched my chowder (not that she has to, but in customer service, it's a good idea to). The wall we were sitting next to was more personable than she was -- at least it let me lean on it. Lastly, there was a waitress near our tables that were all uncomfortably close together, spraying down empty tables with a spray bottle. Cleaner smell + the possibility of cleaner spray getting on your food makes eating even less appetizing than it already was at our Weathervane adventure. Long story short, I'm finally going institute a "no chain restaurants" rule in our family, thanks to this visit.

I'll jump on the 3-star bandwagon: pretty good food, meh service, too many fried items on the menu, bathrooms not the easiest thing to find. I got the haddock sandwich with a baked potato and it was kind of bland but it hit the spot. Wish they would've put my butter and sour cream on the side but whatever, I didn't ask for it that way. It was unclear to us whether the hostess was also our waitress. Whoever was supposed to be serving us took their time checking up on us. Would've been nice to have our refills while we were actually eating and not when we were on our way out the door. It wasn't really that busy in there. But...the staff was *just* courteous enough, the food was *just* good enough, the location was *just* convenient enough and I am *just* complacent enough -- to give this one a 3.

I never cared for other Weathervane restaurants but this one I like. Good food, good people. What I used to love even more was the old take out place in the back of the regular restaurant. They had the best fried calamari. They renovated it and now its character is gone and so is the killer calamari.

Have eaten here several times and really enjoyed it. It's the only place my husband will order fish and looks forward to going to Kittery just for their fried fish. We went for lunch the 1st time and we all ordered the fried fish and all loved it. I think it was only $7.99. I went another time with a friend and our children and the only complaint is the servers are not very good. I ordered the dinner size portion of the fish and the children got the smaller portions (mine was $5 more) when the order came the server could not tell which one was the larger portion as they were all the same size. She made no apologies of the difference or any attempt to see if the kitchen made a mistake and still charged me the larger price. Other than that we have always enjoyed it.

love this shack! Had the haddock last year and was eager to be back. This weekend had the fried clam roll and it was awesome! heaping amounts of clams and fries. Dollar goes a long way @ the shack.

Brought my niece and nephew there yesterday. I had the haddock and chips, she had the scallops and haddock. My nephew had the chicken tenders. My haddock was more like scrod. It was black inside and it wasn't very tastey. My niece's scallops were bay scallops and tasted really fishy..yuck! My nephews chicken tasted like fish....Told the waitress about the scallops and she brought the manager over and he explained that she had bay scallops not sea scallops, He was gracious and brought my neice the sea scallops. I am sorry to say that I will never go there again. Too pricey and terrible food.

I came here with my friends who just moved to Kittery. One is a vegetarian and the other is skittish about shellfish, which is sort of a crime because they can walk to like four seafood shacks from their house. The riverside Weathervane is one of several, but has an abbreviated menu of mostly lobsters and sandwiches. Good: - Clam chowder - Buttery lobster roll - Quaint dock seating - Super-nice waitress Bad: - Sides. The choices are fries, potatoes, corn, coleslaw and mac and cheese. The fries are awful, pale and tasteless, and the taters are just plain boiled. Corn was sweet and yummy, but when my friend ordered the mac and cheese, another diner in our party had to warn her it was Kraft! Come on, how can a restaurant get away with serving boxed mac and cheese?

Wife took me here for my birthday last evening. She had a gift certificate she won at a local raffle. I haven't been to the Weathervane in years and glad I haven't. We laid out $21.00 after applying the certificate. We still paid too much for what we got. Service, slow. Captains platter soggy seafood and cold. French fries, cold. I wanted a refill (which they advertise for free) but couldn't find the server to get one. I just searched other reviews and agree, you see a server then they disappear and you don't see them until they want money. A MAJORr tourist trap. I travel 40 minutes to eat at the Clam Box in Ipswich, MA. Other than Petey's in Rye (my spot during the Winter months when the Box closes), you can't find good fried seafood in the Seacoast of NH and ME to compare with what you get at the Clam Box. Worth the trip.

Our party consisted of My Grandpa, Mom and her twin that is from California and my Aunt who is from Texas. My grandma recently passed away and in her honor we went to Weathervane. The only tasty food there was the lobster and the buns. The steamers were way to soft, the "seafood" stuffing in the stuffed lobster dish was gross. Along with the lobster bisque that had barely any of that unique lobster flavor to it. The admirals platter, don't get me started on that. This was MY dish. The shrimp was ok at best (very very soft), the bay scallops did not taste at all like they should. The cod or haddock fillet was surprisingly good along with the french fries and slaw. I have been a fisherman for 80% of my life and people love my cooking. The people who started the Weathervane would be DISGUSTED with what your guys serve. I feel like my grandpa got robbed and will now continue my weathervane boycott indefinitely. I have to say though that the waitress got a good tip and maybe it's just the Weathervane in Kittery, Maine that has bad food.

Seafood chowder was yummy and their special with 2 lobsters was awesome. I didn't like our service. Waiter was friendly enough but I think he deliberately misrepresented information because we were not Americans/caucasians. He said the beer was bottomless so we ordered more beer . Then when we asked why he charged us the extra beer, he said he was just joking about it being bottomless. When we ordered the food, he gave us option to switch fries to onion rings and then charged us for it as appetizer. In retrospect, we should have complained to manager about it since the waiter did it on more than 2 items.

My husband has his first meal in Maine here, and we were both disappointed. I'd eaten at this Weathervane many times between 1987-1990 when I was living in Manchester, NH. At that time I remember it being good food for a very good price. On the Fall 08 evening we ate here, it'd been a long day of travel from CA. Then we got lost in MA, and we were tired and hungry. It was about 7:30 or later by the time we got here. And there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant. I don't recall a bad mildew smell in the carpets during my many visits for lunch 20 years ago. The prices were much higher and the taste was not as good. I had lobster, so that was OK. (No more full lobster dinners for under 10 bucks anymore! ) The rest of the food was very blah. Now the blueberry cobbler was good. That helped take the edge of the disappointment of the rest of the food.

Don't waste your money, don't waste your time. Mediocre food at best. Poor service. Sorry ambiance You will do much better at AJ's in Kittery Foreside. Don't know where it is, use your MapQuest, you will be glad you did. Don't want to drive, go to Bobs or even Robert's , either one is a vast improvement over w'vane.

As a gluten free customer with celiac disease, the Weathervane was a really pleasant surprise. I am always somewhat hesitant to eat at a place that does not have a specific gluten free menu, but when I called ahead I was assured that they could accommodate me. We arrived for lunch yesterday (8/31/2013) at the beginning of what would become a very busy lunch hour. After telling our server that I needed a gluten free meal, he immediately said he would get the manager to speak with me. Within a few minutes, the manager came to our table and explained that he would personally take care of my meal and make sure it was prepared correctly with ingredients newly opened. He told me they take food allergies very seriously and understand the potential risks of cross contamination. I ordered the salad with salmon. My meal arrived exactly as ordered - the salad greens were fresh and plentiful, the salmon perfectly cooked and hot. The manager delivered my meal himself. It tasted great and best of all, it was safe for me to eat! I will definitely return and try a dinner meal next time.

The Weathervane is my bittersweet goodbye to Maine as I drive out of the state on my way home. They serve a really good NE Clam Chowder here. Chunky, satiny smooth and full of clams! All of the fried seafood platters that I've seen are huge in size and for the price, very reasonable. I am a creature of habit when it comes to this restaurant and usually get a steamed lobster with all of the fixings. It's never over cooked and I know that I leave Maine sad to go but stuffed and pleased. They do have a decent beer list on tap and serve Island Oasis frozen drinks for those who like that sort of thing.

  • Colin C.

If there's one thing that Maine is good for, it's seafood. Weathervane is no exception. The portions are small and the sides are somewhat limited if you're on a low-carb diet, but the quality of the food is its saving grace.

We went for an early lunch today,Friday,to beat the crowds. It was our first visit to the Weathervane in kittery me.and we were looking forward to lobster dinners advertised on the front of the place. This restaurant has a giant carved lobster as part of their signage and advertises that they serve thousands of lobsters, so we felt pretty confident that this would be the place. Wrong... my husbands lobster was undercooked (black instead of green quaucamole) and when is was brought to the manager's attention, he never appologized, but asked if he could put it back to cook as is. My husband was polite and gave the OK. By the time the overlooked lobster returned to our table, we had both lost our enthusiasm for the special lunch. No discount, no appologies, no thanks. We will not be back.

Came here with babel and were seated in the corner of the back room. im afraid soon they will take us into the basment where no1 will see us while we eat. so i ordered tips and strips. the strips were ok the tips were probably the tips of cow toes cause they were bad. the fish chowder was ok the fried string beans were pretty good and tasty. babel got fish and chips which is...fish and chips not a big fan but we did get 10% off sooo yay???

We had a lobster for 2 dinner. The lobsters were steamed in saltwater and not overcooked. The lobster stew was really good it had a lot of garlic and sherry in the broth. I would go again the next time in maine unless I found something more interesting. It did't get a great rating because the service was mediocre and the bathrooms were a bit dirty.

Awful. Service was just terrible. Our waiter was slow and had too many tables. Took us over an hour to get our food and it was cold. The haddock sandwich was soggy and the burger was well done when we asked for medium. Just a terrible experience and will never go back.

Very casual, family friendly place. They offer a wide selection of entrees, although the sides are very limited. Also have a variety of non-seafood items on children's menu, which was good for my picky eater. Portions were large & the prices reasonable. Although there were up-charges on everything, like have a salad instead of a side. They even charged extra for apple juice- seems kind of odd that only certain drinks come with the kids meal. It is pretty much what you expect from a chain restaurant.

    (3)
  • Dennis L.

Yes, it's a chain restaurant. Yes, it's in the middle of a tourist strip. But I can stand coming here... The prices are 'reasonable' for all the dishes, the portions huge, particularly for mollusks. It's like 2 pounds of clams/mussels per order. There are always ample specials available. Yes, there are countless better places in terms of quality up the road, but its serviceable. Of the dishes I tried, the fried dishes are pretty heavily battered, though not to a degree where it is difficult to taste the food. You get stuffed on the batter more than the seafood, though you don't taste it as much. The clam strips, calamari, and native shrimp, you get what you pay for, though nothing particularly spectacular. The 'Rhode Island style' calamari was fairly good, being tossed with peppers giving it the additional kick. The maple apple grilled salmon was fairly good, though the sauce is too light and runs over on everything, but flavorwise, pretty sweet and the salmon cooked to be easily fork-cut. Pass on the Mac and Cheese. Boring out of the box Kraft. The fish chowder was particularly good, however, being just potatoes, fish, and creamy broth, and being heavy with stock flavor without feeling like it was thickened too much by additives. I've had steamers here before at a bargain when I was here last summer, somewhere around $12 for a bucket, but prices have skyrocketed lately due to the rain, so we didn't order any last time. What I didn't like was that you were forced to get the mayo-heavy cole slaw with any dish you ordered, even if you were trying to eat light. Also, I kept getting seated in the section farthest back in the restaurant, where there is barely any waiter station available. We didn't have silverware until we asked for it after getting bread, and we noticed that the waitress found the closest service station empty of silverware (on a Saturday night?) and had to run to another to find it. The calamari we ordered the other night took about half an hour to come, but compensated by giving us chowder on the house. Overall, it's fine for the price, but not a place to go when you are going for a higher end experience. Dishes to try: Fish chowder, Rhode Island style calamari, Steamers

  • Marina E.

First of all, the bread they give you is one of the top 5 breads I've ever had. Soft, warm, buttery-ness...wow! Next, I ordered one of their specials, the crab and cheese dip....very satisfying to say the least. Thumbs up on that appetizer. Then, here comes out my lobster bisque, so so...not too impressed but edible. Ceasar salad was decent but just say no to the crab cakes. When I think of crab cakes, I think of lump crab cakes, Morton style, very little breading. These crab cakes were literally the kind that gives all crab cakes a bad name. Would I return, it's possible. The service was really friendly and pleasant.

I love this place. Every time I go to Maine, which isn't that often since I've discovered Wrentham Premium Outlets, I make a pit stop at Weathervane to indulge in my favorite New England dish, fried clams. The clams are so plum and tasty (with belly), and the batter is crisp and not soggy or greasy. Last time I went, I had onion strings and those were tasty as well. The portions were huge and the prices were A-OK. I wish I could have deep fried clams every day and not die an early death.

I have been to The Weathervane in a few different locations. I usually end up here only when there is nothing else nearby. My biggest compliment and my biggest complaint are the same. The Weathervane is okay. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all just passable. You walk out with a full stomach, but will never give what you ate or where you ate it a second thought. If I were in Kittery and just didn't feel like driving any further, I wouldn't hesitate to stop in. But, I would never go out of my way to eat at The Weathervane. It's just too so-so.

Went here for Mother's Day and had the most horrible seafood plate EVER! And at $25.00 you would expect it to be at least good. Well the whole thing tasted like Mrs. Paul's frozen seafood! The breading fell off the scallops and the fish, the fish was odd colored and tasted like frozen and not flaky at all! My companion said the clams had a mercury taste (I didn't notice that). The shrimp are very small and the scallops (white liitle pea size after the breading fell off) were tiny. Even the french fries were lack luster. And, unbelievably, the cole slaw was inedible. It was so crunchy. Never had cole slaw like that. After telling the manager, they took it off the bill. I love seafood and have had quite a lot in my lifetime but never even close to this bad! Hard to believe but I've had better at pizza joints!

You know what was great? I walked in with my two kids for a treat. Weathervane is always a treat. I came in on a Wednesday, having NO IDEA that kid's meals are $1.50 on Wednesdays. A buck fifty! SCORE! So with the kids getting dinner for a whopping $3.00 .... MOMMY GOT TO EAT LOBSTER. DOUBLE SCORE.

I drove up to Maine specifically to have a lobster roll and Weathervane looked good from the outside. Inside, decorated with a naval theme. Several pictures of submarines and even a several foot lone scale model of one hanging in the dining area. Menus are glossy and there's a big push for their mixed drinks. Weathervane has several locations. I had the clam chowder to start. It was quite chunky and thick with potatoes. Maybe not as many clams as I would have liked, but it was hot and it was tasty and I cleaned out the bowl. For main, I had the lobster roll with fries. A good portion of large pieces of lobster meat, none of that minced stuff here. Tasty though the toasted roll could have been warmer. Same with the fries - they weren't cold, but they weren't hot. Overall, the lobster roll was excellent but the rest of the plate was only okay. Service was good. My waiter apologized for the delay (there was a delay?) and refilled my drink just the once. Decent meal, not quite worth an hour drive. But I managed to get in my first ME review and therefore my 39th state.

Went here for a family dinner with my parents and sons. The atmosphere is nice, maybe a bit touristy, but nothing overly negative about it. Our server was excellent, very attentive and informative. I ordered the baked haddock and was very pleased with it. Nothing overly spectacular, but it was cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful.

A long time staple in southern Maine. Great place for chowder and lobster roll. Family atmosphere with great staff. Weathervane is weathered looking but wouldn't be a trip to Kittery without visiting. Love the charm.

We have been coming here for at least twenty five years. It's always our next stop after the trading post. This time the haddock was dry and the manager said it is frozen, not fresh. The scallops in the fisherman's platter LOOKED like sea but we're just bay in disguise with a ton of breaking. My steamed lobster was good and the steamers were very good but I think it's time to hunt for a new favorite

Where to begin? I guess with the gross sticky table and chairs. So bad that we had to move to another table that was only a little bit of an improvement. We got clam strips and fried fish. The clam strips were all stuck together in a big mass. The were not crunchy at all. The fish was battered, which just isn't my thing. I prefer breaded. It was very greasy. My kids got chicken tenders that were fine. Just not very flavorful. The French fries were fine and service was fine. I will not be returning. When in Maine, good seafood is what you want and we did not find it here.

I so wanted to have an enjoyable experience. 20 years ago we couldn't drive by here without stopping. I'd now tell you to keep going. The service today was terrible. Waited 10 minutes to even see a server, she never checked in and getting a soda refill was a challenge. I had a chicken Caesar wrap, something I had here several times and was looking forward to it. The wrap was good, the fries cold and soggy, but by the time my waitress checked in, it was too late. And she set her fate on her tip as she didn't provide change for any more than a 10% tip, no way she was getting $5 on a $13 bill. Made the decision easy. ****Update: pleased to report I was contacted by the manager in response to my 1 star review for additional feedback. Based on this, I'm moving the review from 1 star to 2 star.

Went here after shopping. Drinks were awesome and decently priced. The waiter we had was pretty informative about the specials and what was included with the meals. I had the house margaritas, they were very refreshing and yummy. We ordered an appetizer and were confused when it didn't come out before our meal. It seems that the kitchen didnt cook it.. they brought it out for us afterwards so we could take it to go. The waiter was very apologetic about this. For the amount of food and drinks we got as well as the atmosphere, the price was right for an evening out. Seafood was on point.

I ate here yesterday with some of my family and it was an O.K. experience. The food wasn't all that bad, but it was mostly cold by the time it arrived at our table. I ordered a half portion of fried shrimp which was pretty good. The coleslaw it came with was nice, but the fries were cold and and not the best I've had. Another person at my table ordered the side of sweet potato waffle fries and the first plate was cold, so they were sent back. The second plate, however, was hot and the fries were excellent. The service was good and I can't complain about that. Altogether, it wasn't an awful experience at all and we had a nice family dinner, but I have had better seafood elsewhere.

Stopped in Kittery on our way up to Wells for a little shopping and a bite to eat. When we walked in the place was pretty empty (late lunch 2pm) we were seated fairly quickly in the back of the restaurant, cramped in a corner and two of the people we were with had to squeeze into their chairs careful not to hit the people behind them. It was about 50 degrees in there and after looking at my menu for about 10 minutes not one person came to acknowledge us. At one point about five wait staff were standing together at a station. We finally got up and walked over to the bar. We quickly got our drinks and at that point already knew what we wanted to eat. Mind you not one person even came by to ask why we left our table. The food was just OK, probably will not be back. Gave two stars due to the good service we got from the bartender only.

Now, this is funny (strange funny not haha funny). I have been going to this location for ages and was talking about it yesterday at work. I was saying that I like this location better than the one in Salem with one exception. At this location there are several rooms and the one at the back right - near the bathrooms - always smells like pee. Some kidder said "You should write a review and mention that!". I replied that I was sure I had. Oops, guess I never did remember to review the place never mind give you all the heads up to avoid the back room. Not sure why it stinks, I actually don't think it's related to the proximity to the bathrooms and yes, I've mentioned it to them. And here's the rest of what I would have told you years ago that is still valid today: The lobster roll and the chowder (clam or fish) are both decent for the money. If you get the scampi, go with the bigger shrimp (an upgrade). Their specials are usually decent, but don't order the fried seafood plate, they use those tiny shrimp and it's a waste. If you're really craving fried seafood, pick the half and half and choose your 2 favorites. Useful non menu tips: -The Claw Club is a waste unless you go there often. -In the summer they have a lot of foreign help and you're better off sticking with one of the regular wait staff. TL;DR Decent lobster roll & clam chowder for cheap money. Stay away from the back room near the bathrooms.

My 79-year old mom and I ate here on 8/23 around 3pm. Food was decent, but prices were high, and the service was horrible. Our waiter basically ignored us, did not tell us any of the specials or any of the prices of lobster items that were not on the menu. When we asked about the specials, he reluctantly told them to us, but acted as if we were bothering him. He also got very annoyed when we ordered a cocktail and did not order our food right away. At 3pm, it was not very crowded, and we did not feel as though we were taking up his table. If you are not a huge eater, they do offer half portions of many of their fried items. The fried clam half order was a steep $22, again no price posted on the menu. They were well-prepared, but it seemed expensive for such a small order. We did enjoy the fish chowder, but they do need to pay greater attention to the indifferent attitude of their servers.

Not.. bad. That's all I can really say. Over-hyped, with mediocre food at excessive prices. Alas the fame and fortune that led what was apparently an excellent food shack to becoming a multi-state chain has corrupted it into a tourist trap hawking chintzy merch and wholly forgettable food. Not bad at all for a tourist trap restaurant, but not at all worth the price.

The hubby chose poorly when he decided we should come here. Drove up to Kittery for some outlet shopping. The lobsta roll was tiny and not that great. I wound up getting a stomachache shortly after eating my lobsta roll. His clam strips weren't that great either. Should've gone to Bob's across the street instead...

Everywhere. Basic uninspired seafood usually accompanied by poor service. Try the crab sandwich for takeout...there are so many great spots around for a picnic Let them cook and serve yourself.

Lobster roll was tasty, didn't have too much mayo. The roll was kinda plain, wish they used better quality bread instead of the hot dog buns you can get in the store.

We stopped here for lunch on our lighthouse tour. We ate lobster roll, clam chowder, haddock melt, fried scallops, mash potatoes, and French fries. Only the clam chowder and mashed potatoes were tasty. Clam chowder was creamy and full of clams and potatoes. Mashed potatoes were seasoned just right. Everything else just sucked. Haddock was too dry. Scallops were smaller than popcorn. Lobster roll was poorly seasoned and dressed. Lobster just didn't taste fresh at all. Those fries were of the frozen type. Service was bad. We had to asked for utensils, nakins, water and soda refills. We should have taken other Yelpers' advices and went to Bob's Clam Shack instead.

I will not be going back to this restaurant. The service was terrible and you could barely understand the girl who was our server due to her thick accent. You could clearly tell she was new because she struggled the whole time. I ordered the fish chowder and for a sea food restaurant I expected it to be a lot better, wouldn't order it again. My guests got the crab melt and the bacon cheddar burger. The crab melt looked delicious but it came out a solid twenty minutes after the other dishes. The cheddar bacon burger was cold and the fries you could tell were old. The atmosphere was kinda dark and needs some updating. I won't be back!

After power shopping through the Kittery outlets, we needed something to eat. This place gets the job done, but without any frills or style. Carpeted restaurants may be the bane of Chef Robert Irvine's existence (see TLC's Restaurant Impossible) but I think he has the right idea. The space is a little musty, and a little old. We had a crab melt and an almond crusted haddock salad. The salad was mixed greens with a couple of pieces of tomato, and there were three giant pieces of the haddock, the crust mostly breading with a few slivered almonds pressed into the breading. Delicious, but not very pretty. This would be a great place for families, or large groups, as the service and hostesses are very efficient - but a no-frills place.

Upon arriving we were not escorted to an outside table, but given two menus and told to find our own seat! Also the waiter Chris was not very friendly. He didn't even bother to thank us for a greater than 20% tip! I should have gone with my gut and only given a 10% tip because he was rather a "grumpy" chap, but the service was good and I usually always tip 20% unless service is terrible. Management should train their staff to at least thank the patrons and the front staff should be trained to escort patrons to a table. I probably would not go back as other restaurants in the area get better ratings.

I don't know what's worse, Red Lobster or Weathervane. This was the worst lobster I had in my 4 days in Maine. We also tried some fried half and half, but it should have been called fried, extra greasy breading. The only reason I give it two stars is the servers were nice and the patrons there were friendly.

Was very happy on labor day weekend...it was busy and were well taken care of by a great server Catie P. Ask for her....food was good didn't blow my socks off but lobster rolls were great. I enjoyed my time and would come back again.

Settled in the middle of the Kittery shopping bonanza, this seafood restaurant provides the PERFECT energy boost to any shopping excursion. Perfectly situation in the midst of the RI to Sunday River 4 hour car ride, a little mid trip walk around and food stop is in order and Weathervane offers the most delicious lobster roll. A roll, lobster and that's it! Not too mayoey at all...coming from the girl who can't stand mayo but loves a good lobster roll. Nothing fancy, it's local and good food at very reasonable prices!

Good calamari, but it slid downhill from there. It was overwhelmingly dull and average, with slow service. A cheaper and better meal could be had anywhere, even red lobster. It could have been three stars, but two sandwiches and the calamari put us at almost fifty bucks. Not worth it.

Had dinner with a friend of mine recently. The food was excellent and our waitress Maggie provided top notch service. As for food, I started out with a cup of the New England Clam chowder follow by my main course which was baked scallops with a baked potato on the side. Lastly, I had a slice of key lime pie for dessert. After reading other reviews, I do not understand why people gave such dismal reviews about this restaurant. Other than that, I plan on returning to this restaurant again in the near future.

Skip this place, keep on going. We walked in and the hostess took us to a crammed 2-person booth sitting across from a screaming kid. I don't mind sitting in a crammed 2-person booth, however, when the place is nearly 3/4 empty, I'd rather sit at a table that has room. I took one look at the menu and I was instantly grossed out. Seafood on a blue menu? Not to mention the pictures on the menu made the food look cheap and greasy like Wafflehouse! It felt like an overpriced Long John Silvers. I was so unimpressed with the atmosphere (smells like an old bar), the menu, the service, that I immediately left and went elsewhere. Hey if you're gonna pay a fortune for seafood, it may as well be somewhere nostalgic and inviting coupled with good food and good service. Unless someone can convince me this is the place to go for great food, I won't be back unless forced to go for a work luncheon.

The rating reads, "Meh, I've experienced better." And I have, at The Weathervane in years gone by. This always was a favorite spot of my family's as I was growing up, but I've been watching it go downhill for years. My mother wanted to go; she's been craving fried clams. We went, we ate, but it wasn't up to par and it was just a Meh meal. Disappointing really. The prices have gone way up and the portions, quality & service have gone way down. I felt like cattle to be move through the barn for milking and thrown back out in the pasture. I'll be looking for a new spot next time there's a fried seafood craving.

Outright fantastic! I had the time of my life at this seafood joint. The service was commendable. What i had was the fried seafood combo and diet coke. I was in heaven. The steamers at that popsicle stand were 9.8/10. I swear... Their new england cooking is a keeper... My aunt/uncle were happy. Without their service... The whole dang opera falls apart to one star. Not to mention their prices were well worth the drive from my grandma's house. In conclusion... If you love succulent seafood, impeccable service, and good new england cooking. This is the right spot for you.

My dad and I come here a lot over the summer BUT tonight it was terrible! Hostess sat us at a table and we were told that our waitress would be right with us. Five minutes later another waiter comes over and asks if he can take our drink order. We told him we needed to order everything together because we were in a hurry. Well he left and 10 minutes later we still didn't have a waitress. Soooo, we got up and left and advised the hostesses standing around and they used the excuse that she had a large party she was waiting on! Well, why is that my problem? They shouldn't have sat us in her section if she was that busy! We probably will be cutting back on going back here to eat.

We started with poor service of a waitress who took our drink order and then disappeared. Two more tables sat down and had there drinks before we got a couple sodas and a beer. The food was cold by the time we got it. For the price we paid the food was small and didn't have enough flavor to justify an inside dining room. I grew up in the area and have had good food in the past but I think weathervanes time is donefor decent food.

We're Maine fans of the Weathervane restaurants so this review compares our wonderful dining experience on Sunday June 8th, at the Kittery location with others. Local people know the Kittery Weathevane was the first one among the now expanded number of locations. My husband and I were impressed with our welcome as we were cordially seated immediately, our waitress was at our table as soon as we were seated. Service was friendly and we received ample attention. Unfortunately, however, for some bizarre reason, the restaurant was "out of unsweetened iced tea"....(Whaaaa? Maybe they lost the recipe?) Okay, the missing iced tea mystery notwithstanding, we were impressed by the quality and freshness of our menu selections. I ordered the grilled salmon salad and my husband the haddock sandwich. Salad greens with my salmon were crisp and varied with green and purple lettuce, nice presentation, salmon was very fresh tasting. My husband's haddock sandwich was served on toasted sliced bread, beautifully presented with the accompanying fries and shredded slaw. Although we're fans of Weathervane, it's possible the original restaurant in Kittery remains the flagship of the chain and we'll definitely visit to eat again. Maybe, by next time, the staff will figure out how to make unsweetened iced tea. We enjoyed our lunch and the good service so much that we can overlook the tea, this time.

I've been to Weathervane a number of times. It's usually anywhere from good to excellent. This past week it was really crappy. I have been a fan for a long time and I hope things improve. My fish wasn't fresh, scallops were rubbery and our onion rings were too greasy. Get it together Weathervane. I still love you!. Lots of memories.! On a bright note, the waitstaff was great. I dropped a $5 bill and a waiter chased me down to return it!
