I have been to the Tasty Thai on a few occasions for lunch, it is a little restaurant tucked into a strip mall off of the Route 1 Traffic Circle connecting to Route 236 in Kittery. Each time I have tried different things as I like to explore the menu. I would definitely recommend the Veggie Dumplings as they are cooked to perfection or try the Larb Gai for a twist on chicken salad as they toss it with lemongrass mint leaves. If you are like me and enjoy some heat with your flavor try the Pad Gaprow it is your choice of meat mixed in with a spicy chili basil sauce, great flavor with just the right amount of kick. The prices are reasonable but the wait staff is spotty, I have had mixed results each time I have gone but the lunch has been pretty good thus far.

Tasty Thai is just that - tasty Thai food. Like most good Thai restaurants, it's reasonably priced and the dishes are prepared quickly. The outside of the restaurant isn't much to look at, but it's really cute inside. The only thing that could have been better was the width of the smaller tables, so it was terrific. Comparisons to Portsmouth's Thai Paradise restaurant are inevitable, so here it is. I live in Portsmouth, so you can guess which one is more convenient for me. Food at both restaurants is very good. Vegetables are crispy, noodles taste freshly made, and the level of spices is reasonable. Tasty Thai is a nicer looking restaurant, especially on the inside. For a first date, you'd be better off at Tasty Thai. A few dates later, you might want to show off the other restaurant as proof that you know some really cool "hole in the wall" kinds of places. And finally, parking at Tasty Thai is likely to be much easier because most locations have better (or at least cheaper) parking than downtown Portsmouth. Tasty Thai is worth the ride, especially if you had planned on shopping at Kittery's endless outlet stores.

I heard great things and was looking forward to going there... But last night they must have been totally "off"... First I was disappointed they didn't have Thai Fresh Spring rolls on the menu. I've NEVER been to a Thai restaurant that didn't offer them!!! It took WAY too long to get the appetizers we ordered.... Then my dish (Tofu Green Curry) was almost inedible from way too much salt. To top it off, it only had 5 small cubes of tofu in it. What a rip off!!! I'd never go back...

Super surprised to find this little gem in Kittery! The service was friendly. The food was your traditional Thai fare. I was most impressed with the menu layout which offered a comprehensive guide to vegan and gluten free items on the menu. Will definitely swing back through here in the future!!

A little skeptical about ethnic food in Kittery, Maine... But surprised, better than most Thai restaurants I've eaten at. I'd definitely eat here again.

Drive by this place often on the way to Kittery shops. Weathervane closed earlier than we expected so drove back to Tasty Thai to give it a shot. So glad we did! Red curry & Basil Pad Thai dishes were, well, very tasty. As good as any that we've had in the Seacoast area. Very warm & comfortable ambience. Service was cheery and attentive. Menu is very limited. Agree with other review that "the only reason I am giving 4 versus 5 stars is cost and portion size." We'll definitely return and recommend with friends.

I was skeptical of a Thai place in Maine run by Americans, but boy was I surprised. It was FANTASTIC. Green curry was deliciously tasty and fresh. Crab rangoon was out of this world. Pad thai was wonderful Highly Recommended!

Excellent food. The menu lets you know how spicy foods are by the number of asterisks and seems to be true. A diverse menu, and a wine list which includes Gewurztraminer and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, both of which go with sort of food here.

Vegan Thai food!!!! My best friend and I will drive over 45 minutes to eat here. Reasonable prices and portions. The chef creates a vegan sauce and some appetizers are made vegan. Basil Pad Thai is my go to meal.

While the food was delicious and satisfying, I was incredibly disappointed with their prices. I ordered two vegetable entrees, the cheapest available, and an appetizer, and the total came to $50! There were two menus available online, one that showed higher prices than the other, but came from a third-party website. I used the one directly linked to their website, the cheaper one, and they told me it was wrong. Apparently it's not important enough to them to fix it. I assumed the portions were just really big, so the prices would make sense. When I got home I was even more disappointed to see the small size. I'd recommend going some place cheaper- the food all tastes the same.

I think I've been to every Thai place between Boston, Manchester, and Portland and Tasty Thai is absolutely #1. The dishes are nicely balanced, made with very fresh ingredients, and are enough for two. We get one app and an enter and we're satisfied. Their Pad Thai is a tad bit on the sweet side but it's perfect. The chef, who is also the owner, will adjust the dishes any way you like. A lot of Thai places in this area use canned vegetables. Not here, it's all fresh and that's why I am a loyal fan.

After eating at several Thai restaurants over the past 25 years, i can safely say Tasty Thai has the best Tom Kah coconut soup EVER!. Hands down!. Everything else is great too. The service is OK.

This is a gem right off of the 95 near the Tanger outlets. It is a great little stop off for a Maine road trip. We went there with a party of 4 and had a chance to try a pretty broad selection of their dishes. Everything was good. The place was cute and an authentic Thai ambiance. The chef is thai born and trained. It shows in her food. Everything is prepared from scratch in house and they use high quality produce. The sauces are not as oily as you find in many Thai restaurants and were full of great flavors. It is on the pricier side for Thai food (dishes started around $14.95), but the portions are big and can easily be split and you will still walk away satisfied. Each dish had district flavors and had a nice presentation. The Crispy Curry Puffs were a delight. They were crispy and prepared to order with a tangy citrus sauce. Perfect way to start off a Thai meal. The Tom Yom Goong was excellent and is a must order. The lemongrass broth was light and perfectly spiced with cilantro. The mushrooms were also fresh which is always a plus! The drunken noodles were good and not as oily as you sometimes run into in little whole in the wall Thai restaurants. They use thinner noodles than most Thai places and use a wider mix of veggies and are less focussed on peppers. If you like spicy food, I would recommend kicking the spice up a notch. The base spice level was good just not as much kick as I like. The Pad Thai was excellent. It had nice acidity from the lime and had a good balance of peanuts and chicken. The sauce was on lighter side and did not overshadow the fresh sprouts and peanuts. The green curry was very tasty as well. The broth was on the lighter side and had a good hint of coconut milk. It had lots of fresh veggies and was served with a cut side of heart shaped rice. The staff was very friendly as well. We will definitely return when we head back up to Maine.

When you step through the doors you are transported to another world. One that is serene, that smells delicious, looks spotless, sounds relaxing, and tastes amazing! Its reasonably priced and most dishes are gluten free or vegan. The portions are large. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable and the owners are concerned with getting it right and providing a uniquely delightful culinary experience.

Very clean, nice atmosphere, delicious massaman tofu curry but definitely higher priced. $15.95 for a dinner entree and not a huge serving. But still delicious and worthy of coming to!

My wife and I prefer Thai food to any other Asian cuisine. This was a disappointment. The Pad Thai was tasty enough, although not the best I have had. Texture was mushy. The service was terrible. It took over 45 minutes from the time it was ordered to when it was served. The worst service I have had in many, many years.

Excellent. My goto place to eat when leaving Maine. Every thing I have ordered here is great. Food comes quickly. Good sized portions, usually enough for lunch next day as well. Has a bit of a kick, which I love. Recommended.

Food- It''s the best thai I've had anywhere north of the MA border. Thai and Indian are my favorite ethnic foods and I'm quite picky about them, but this place was up to the challenge. Local and organic food go into all the dishes. I had the pad thai and coconut soup which are my favorites and both were fantastic. The owner was our waiter as well and told us his wife was from Thailand and learned to cook there, so that would explain the awesomeness. The menu is kept small as well, which I like, having all the staples and doing them right is what makes for a great ethnic restaurant. Price- They are a bit high I must agree, which makes a visit here a special occasion, otherwise it'd be 5 stars, but the food is worth it. Service- The owner/waiter was very personable, as I said and we chatted a lot about the menu, Atmosphere- It's one of those places you'd look at from the outside and be surprised how nice it is inside. In a strip mall off the Kittery rotary, the inside is well kept, clean and beautifully decorated, A must try for any Thai food fan in the area, I'll certainly be back,

Found this place during a Pats game so it was nice and quiet. Chicken pad Thai was fantastic, as were the veggie and pork dumplings. Service was outstanding - will come back the next time we're in the area!

My wife and I stumbled over this gem on a Sunday night while we were lost and hungry. Small and unassuming, we were glad it was open when almost everything else was closed, and the best we hoped for was something nontoxic. Were we surprised! We started with the Tom Kha soup: chicken, mushrooms and other vegetables in a beautiful cocoanut broth. This told us that we found a special place. My wife had the Massaman curry - a mild, yellow curry with chicken, potatoes, peanuts and the other expected vegetables, superbly done. My dinner was the basil pad Thai - a spicy (but not too hot) Indonesian of the Thai classic. Excellent. We both had Thai tea - a strong brew enhanced with vanilla extract (?). We were too full for dessert. Portions were generous, prices were reasonable, service was top-notch, and the ambiance was charming. Definitely worth another visit - the next time, deliberately.

From the moment you walk in the door you just know you made a good choice. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff friendly and attentive. We ordered the vegetable dumplings to start. They are quite good and the presentation is very appealing. The portions for the meals are more than generous. The Drunken Noodles were fabulous with just the right amount of spice. A little extra hot served on the side gave it more heat. The Pad Thai was also very good. We look forward to coming here again.

This place is incredible! Better by far than many of the places I think are great in the Boston area. Everything was utterly delicious, and being a GF diner, I really appreciated all the choices. I especially was grateful for the custom dish they whipped up for my son. I'd love to see some GF beer on the menu too. Don't let the exterior dissuade you, it is beautiful inside. I'll definitely be back to try some more adventurous dishes.

They know every ingredient. And everything they use for veggies is local or organic. So the quality is very high for a reasonable price. Everything always comes out amazing and the atmosphere is beautiful and friendly. Vegan options available and plentiful. Very worth a visit.

Have you ever seen the movie Grandmas Boy? If you have, this place reminds me of the Vegan restaurant in the movie "Nice karma, Guy-Blow" I couldn't stop laughing and my fiancé couldn't get it out of me why. The food was very good, the spices and taste were right on point. Serving sizes were excellent, well the water cups could be a bit bigger. Service was excellent, when I wasn't giggling and whispering, quotes of from the movie to myself. We ended up recommending this place to a few co-workers who also enjoyed the restaurant as well.

This is the best Thai EVER. I am crazy about this place. The drunken noodles are out of this world and I get ridiculous cravings for them often! The crab rangoons are phenomenal. I dream about the crab rangoons and the delicate sauce that accompanies the tasty treats. The owners are extremely friendly and wicked clean. Sigh... Now I want to drive over there and get some Thai right away! It's worth every penny.

Tasty Thai is on the traffic circle in Kittery, which, except for the library(s), is where the action is in Kittery. Though in New England, they call the traffic circles "roundabouts" (immortalized in a song by the band, "Yes"). I can't say I'm a fan of the these roundabouts. Whenever I drive onto one, I kind of hold my breath and am always a little amazed I made it on without anyone hitting me, after which I get disoriented, lose my sense of direction, and if you go around more than once you feel like you're really doing something wrong and acting like a crazy person. And pedestrian friendly? Forget it! The drivers are all holding their breaths, maybe even closing their eyes to get on the thing, and when you add texting in with that, watch out. I'd much rather they put in a four-way stop and a park-- though the circle in the center is kind of like a park... but good luck getting to it! Though if you did, you should be allowed to set up camp there, in which case you'd be in luck. You've got a little diner, a DQ, a 7-Eleven, a little cafe in a caboose, and this Thai restaurant! You could do a lot worse in half the towns in the USA. My dinner was delicious, and the place was dark and calm, in stark contrast to the madness outside. What's not to like about a Thai restaurant? (unless it's a fake Thai restaurant)-- they already get four stars just for being a Thai restaurant. The fifth star is for avoiding the Thai/Tie pun in their name.

I have been to many other thai places in the SeaCoast area, Dover, Portsmouth, Exeter..etc, but this place is the best. It's the most flavorful and most authentic. I love my Thai food and crave it regularly. Not living in NYC anymore has made me long for that authentic taste and Tasty Thai is the only place that fully satisfies that. The service was prompt and friendly, the decor and atmosphere was great considering they're in a strip mall off of a traffic circle in Maine. The food was the real star here though. We had a crab Rangoon app and a noodle and rice dish that was cooked perfectly. I complemented the chef and wrote this review for her. Go and check this place out!

Went here for the first time tonight. We just moved to town and spent the day unpacking, so what better than take-out? This Thai was some of the best I've had! It's a bit expensive for Thai, but the portions are big and very tasty! We had Vegetable Dumplings, Basil Pad Thai and Pad Prig Khing. I would recommend any of these, however I'll probably try the spring rolls in place of the dumplings next time. We're huge fans of Thai, and this place definitely scratches the itch!

Loved the food. These guys are serious about their spice levels.i got carried away and ordered a 4 star spice level. But the server forced me to change it to a 3. After a lot of haggling she gave me a 3 star spicy food. And man was it spicy. But the server came to apologize. Offered us options to tone it down. The owner felt bad about the food being spicy. But I really liked the way they handled the situation.

Had a late lunch at Tasty Thai and was pleasantly surprised at the pretty interior. We started with Thai beer and veggie steamed dumplings. Yummy! The little dumplings looked like tiny purses and the spicy basil sauce was good but I would have liked it spicier. Lori had pineapple rice and I had a seafood dish with vegetables with a side of basmati rice. It was fabulous. This place is in a little strip mall. You'd never guess what a gem it is from the outside. Try Tasty Thai - you'll love it. We did and will definitely come back!!

You wouldn't know it by looking at the place form the outside but the interior has a beautiful ambiance. Great value for a nice sit down dinner in Kittery. They've got a great selection of beverages including all kinds of teas. I like that. I tried the Thai Ice Tea, good stuff. So ordering the Garlic Pork, with an extra side of rice, and the tea my bill came out to $21 and some change.

Nice place. Food was good, especially the pineapple fried rice, which sounded boring but was wonderful! Really nice people and decor.

The Thai restaurant has recently changed hands and has a new management. The flavors produced by these dishes are exquisite. There is a large selection of what I would dub the standard Thai selections for an American restaurant. Prices are modest, and with a separate lunch menu, Tasty Thai is a perfect choice for a fan of good food. Lunch dishes are $7.95. Dinner ranges from $9-15 for noodle, curry and rice dishes, to $15-17 for house specialties. Portion size for dinner are quite generous for one, satisfactory for two.

  • Kate F.

yep, it's tasty. not amazing, not fabulous, just tasty. the summer rolls (lettuce, carrots, noodles, in rice paper with sauce) were overpriced and not very tasty. we make better ones at home. the veggie dumplings were deep fried, and they were okay, but still not worth the price. my standard (boring, i know - but it's comfort food) chicken pad thai is a little sweeter than i like it, and a little stickier. also, my favorite places serve it with fresh citrus to squeeze on, which i've grown to like (I have no idea whether that's considered 'more authentic' or not). the portion size is good, though, and it satisfies me when i must have pad thai, but it also makes me yearn for tree top or noodles in the pot in former places of residence. we asked for four-star spicy on one dish, and it wasn't nearly as spicy as hoped, but as they get used to us, hopefully we'll be able to convince them that the boy can handle his spices. the owners are very friendly, and it's good to have a local thai place. i'd probably call it 3.25 stars.

    (3)
  • Sherry B.

This place is better than average but not phenomenal. Probably better than 3 stars, but I can't give it 4. The prices are good, adequate for the amt of food you get, but nothing draws you back like an addiction. You wouldn't go there because the prices are SO good. You wouldn't go back because there's a dish you have to have again. We have tried a number of dishes looking for that awesome dish, just hasn't happened. Oh well. And their hours are not super user friendly. We have missed them on several occasions, but that's small town life for you.

  • Justin Q.

This place used to be my thai staple. It started out really good with fresh quality food served for a decent price. They even had a frequent customer card-- buy 9 lunches, get one free. Quite recently, I have noticed a shift in quality and price. Since they stopped doing lunches all together, I now have to buy a $13.68 take out dinner consisting of ingredients that literally cost pennies. Also, not open Tuesdays? Whats up with that? And the owners have been known to suddenly close shop and vacation in Thailand. Don't get me wrong, this is pretty good thai, but certainly not worth the price tag for the portions and recent downtrend in quality.

Best Thai on the Seacoast. Expertly cooked and presented. Sorry, I really don't think a lot of people in this are really know what good Thai is. This place is a gem!

"Tasty Thai" you would think it is actually tasty. Nope, not at all. We were VERY disappointed in our first (and last) experience here. Quality and quantity to price ratio was horrible. We ordered drunken noodle, pad thai, crab rangoon, and satay chicken (probably 2oz of chicken ALL together in an order of 4 skewers).....it came out to be $50. We have eaten Thai food from many other great Thai restaurants in New England. Overall, the food here was bland, looked and tasted like it has been sitting there pre-made up all afternoon. Not to mention, lunch size portions for dinner. One of the reasons why we love Thai food is for the peanut sauce......they gave us a thimble size container of peanut sauce with their order of satay chicken. And another thing, when we left (before we tasted the food) we asked for a take out menu, which we were told they were all out. Well, we're glad they were all out of menus since we will NEVER be ordering from them ever again. Waste of $50!!!! So disappointed with Tasty Thai in Kittery, Maine.

Not just a clever name. Very "tasty" Lunch portions were appropriately sized, although I had a full dinner dish. Drunken Noodles weren't overly spicy and was filled with fresh vegetables. Crab rangoons were some of the best in the area. Easy spot for lunch and the have a frequent visit card you can use towards appetizers and lunch on the house. Good spot.

Had a pleasant lunch for the most part, got Pad Thai, and asked for three out of four starts hot, and would have given it a two. Service today was not very good, but went with other friends who had good service from the same waiter so will let it slide a little. Didn't get the app I ordered, but didn't get charged. Everyone enjoyed their meals, small but very neat dining room. Will try again, there might be a fourth star coming...

Overpriced and disappointing in general. I read about Tasty Thai in this summer's issue of Taste magazine, and was impressed by the credentials of the chef/owner. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre and outrageously priced for a dinky little joint next to a seedy pool hall. The chef's husband waits the table and is friendly - not overly hovering, but distant and unconcerned. Perhaps handling the takeout calls and serving the customers is a bit much for him? Ordered the crab rangoons to start, and these were the typical deep fried, cream cheese pouches. I didn't expect much, and these were fine. The biggest disappointment came with the entrees. We ordered the jasmine fried rice with vegetables, and the pad see ew with tofu and vegetables. The fried rice had a generally good flavor with fresh vegetables and was the better entree of the two, although it tasted heavily of too much sugar. The pad see ew was borderline unacceptable. The noodles were thin and not pan fried, the sauce flavorless and of an unpleasant texture, and we could barely find tiny cubes of tofu within. If we had not been so hungry, we definitely would have sent it back, but it was edible and not horrible. Seafood rice and noodle dishes cost $18, and some of the chef's specials ran as high as $20. Based on the slightly below average quality of the pad see ew, I'm glad we didn't spring for anything pricier. We won't be back. The Thai restaurants in Exeter and Dover and much better.

I'm giving this place the 5 stars it deserves. I read through the reviews and I'm convinced that Newicks is the food standard in the seacoast. I'm from NY and I'm a food snob. I think that the food where I'm from kicks the ass of most of the places in NH/ME. I am gathering that some locals here rate quantity over quality and feel that spice and flavor are unecessary and that vegetables taste best out of a can. This is my regular Thai restaurant and I eat here at least once a week. I drive 14 miles to get here and I have several other to choose from on the way. All of the food is FRESH! Even the mushrooms and baby corn. That is not the case with some other places. Nok, the chef, is one of the most talented Thai chefs on the seacoast. She cooks everything authentic to the recipes used in her native home (I've been to Thailand myself). Her husband Dan is always pleasant and the service has never been an issue unless one of the dumbass kids they hire to help doesn't show up because they feel like partying at TJ's till 2:00 AM. Tasty Thai is an EXCELLENT place for vegetarians and vegans. They have an extensive selection of dishes and will even customize one for you.Best dishes so far are Cashew Chicken and Pad Thai. When you order them 5 star you will actually get some serious spice!

I was excited to try this restaurant after reading all the reviews. It lived up to it's name for food quality, but..... I had high hopes when we walked in. The space and decor is very charming and inviting. From the outside you would never know it's so nice on the inside. Service was very slow although, they were busy so we understood. The waitress was very nice and said something about the owners going back to Thailand so all of the regulars were coming in. In the end, we waited a good 10 minutes before being acknowledged and another 10 just for drinks. I ordered the Panang Curry with Tofu and my husband, Massaman Curry with Scallops. Both portions were much smaller then we are used to. In addition, they were sorely lacking in protein. All veggies and sauce, and very little protein. I literally had 5 (1/2 inch) cubes of tofu in the entire dish. For my husband's dish they had obviously taken large scallops and chopped them into 1/4 inch pieces to make it seem like more, but even at that there were maybe just 7 or 8 small pieces. The flavor, however, and the spice was perfect. If only there were more of it. We should have taken a cue from the people around us who were ordering multiple dishes. All in all, disappointing and we had high hopes. We'll stick with Sara Thai in Dover from now on.

the place is way too cute. and inviting. menu huge and accomodating. service was nice and friendly and helpful. food was gorgeous visually but lacked just that one last star. too much fish taste i had tofu pad thai. and sauce was way tooooooo watery..a little thicker would have made it top notch. i will go again.

I was pretty pleased with Tasty Thai. Was it the best Thai I've ever had? No. But was it a reasonable facsimile in a small town? Definitely. When I lived in DC, I was on the hunt for the best chicken kaprow in the District. What I never experienced there was a kaprow dish that came with ground chicken instead of pieces of chicken, so when the server at Tasty Thai offered me the option (they serve it both ways), I went with it. What a good choice! I loved it with ground chicken & will definitely be back to try it again, this time spicier - I forgot to order it to my high spiciness specifications! Looking forward to giving it another try, & to another round of their crab rangoon appetizers, which I'm still salivating over! Many thanks to Tasty Thai for existing in a part of the country not known for its superb ethnic cuisine.

We've lived in Kittery's Admiralty Village neighborhood for about a 18 months, and despite driving by Tasty Thai often, to go anywhere, we had never gone in. We were driving around the area, trying to decide what to eat tonight, and stopped into Tasty Thai. It was definitely not a mistake. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant was decorated much better than your typical Asian takeout restaurant, with a great smell of fresh food. The food was brought out quick, smelling fantastic. We ordered the Veggie Rangoons, Thai Rolls, and Chicken Pad See Ew. They were all fantastic. The Veggie Rangoons were all what you've come to expect with rangoons, but with real veggies instead of imitation crab. The Thai rolls were a small spring roll, crisp and flavorful. The sweet & sour sauce had an unexpected bite to it, sweet and vinegary. Finally, the chicken Pad See Ew was fantastic. The noodles were soft, with just enough bite. The chicken was cooked perfectly. The sauce was great. It was sweet and savory at the same time. I didn't really know what to expect, not being familiar with Thai food. We will definitely be going back, again and again. The prices were reasonable, and it was right down the road. Even if it wasn't so close, it is worth the drive.
